They have tons of cool stuff. Clearance is pretty good otherwise youll spend a pretty penny ☺️ on most everything else. Very friendly staff and lots of choices. The candy department is insane.

Theres never a bad time to stop by if youre in the vacinity of one of the Mast General Store locations. Were just so lucky to have one where we live. Two floors of browsing gold. Such a variety in a single location, they truly live up to their name. I find something new every time I visit. Theyre always running some sort of markdown or clearance on items. I have found so many bargains on clothes and accessories and shoes and... and.. the list goes on and on! The highest quality of items also. You certainly get what you pay for, and many times at Mast, you get so much more! The sales associates are always super nice, and always ready to help. Easy parking via the street, or the parking garage thats just over to the side. You can park your car, walk over the small connector bridge, and right in to the door. If youre in the Winston-Salem area and looking for something to do, head down to Trade St and relax a while!

This store is so much fun to wander around and browse! They have barrels of candy, games, toys, food and cooking supplies, clothing, outdoor gear, and footwear. They have a wide selection of quality items and staff are always quite helpful!I do hope Mast General Store will soon follow CDC recommendations and have their employees wear masks.

Was visiting from out of town and we ventured into this store while trying to walk off a huge meal at a local BBQ spot and we could not be more pleased with our experience. This store had tons of outdoor apparel and the downstairs area reinforces this statement as this is where they house their vast collection of shoes and hiking gear.We were in the area hiking Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain State Parks and I discovered that I did not like my current hiking shoe situation, so stumbling into this store was a happy occurrence due to their large variety of hiking shoes and boots. We spent the next 30 minutes talking shoes with a gentleman named Mike and it is Mikes service that is motivating me to write this review today.After talking hiking shoe theory for a bit, Mike walked me through a few models that could work for me and then I tried on some 5-7 different pairs to see if any of them could work to alleviate my situation. While I did not walk out of the store with a pair of shoes (I have wide feet), our interaction with Mike made our day. He was gracious, knowledgeable, and he was supper nice guy.Thanks Mike. Thanks for showing us so many different shoes. I wish there was a way to do an online order just so we could buy a pair of shoes from you and only you. You were just a great guy to interact with and we appreciate your time.

First-time visit yesterday. Just stopped in to browse and ended up buying quite a bit. Top quality items and the staff was very polite and helpful. My wife said this store is definitely a place shell visit for her Christmas shopping.Im sure well be back before Christmas though.

For those of you that are visiting this area because of the downtown feel its not..... but what should you do? Visit the master general store, it is a great little store with a ton of options, from clothes, shoes, hiking equipment, to candies and toys. We enjoyed our time in this store more than our time walking the 2 whole blocks of the art area.

I love Mass General Store and after years of visiting the stores in Valley Cruises and Boone now we have one in my home town. It is a great store with high end outdoor oriented clothing and gear. I love going there to shop for gifts. There is always something unique and the staff is very helpful. The kids love the candy store. My wife loves the shoe section and I love the selection.

This is such a cool place, its an icon of downtown Winston Salem. Multi floor store with clothes, food, furniture, so many interesting and fun things. Its worth checking out if you’re in the area.

I ordered shoes online. Merrells to be exact. And they arrived two days after I ordered. On time. Very quick. Great service. Easy to order. And they look and feel great. Will do business again.

For a store open since 1883 we expected more old fashion, country merchandise. There was old-fashion candy and toys but otherwise this felt no different than any other clothing store. Finding a parking spot requires some luck.

Im only giving this four stars for now, but that is ONLY because the first time I went, I just had time to poke around the top floor. It was jam packed with people and merchandise, but I had a blast there. I saw it mentioned before that the prices are pretty high but the experience alone was incredible. The staff was VERY sweet and indulged me in my quest for locally made items. I cant wait to go back and explore the lower level!

Did you know that you can find Mast General Store locations all around the Carolinas? These places are very large and always in well visited areas. Yes they do have a TOURIST TRAP vibe to them but you will find all sorts of really cool things from kitchen gadgets to rare candies. This is a great place to buy a gift for someone.

Mast General Store is quite the place! Its definitely centered around the old-school general store model, where you can find anything and everything. For tourists or people who just love the city, its fantastic! Theres lots of clothing, little household items, and food/candies. Its also an expansive store, with two levels. Every bit of space is used! If youre looking for some cool gifts, then this is a solid place to check.

I was incredibly impressed by this store! Be prepared to spend an hour or more, because it is HUGE. They have an enormous selection of clothes for both women and men, and plenty of good quality shoes. The upper floor consists of the womens clothes and accessories, gemstones, housewares, snacks, outdoor and garden supplies, and a huge selection of candy! Downstairs is more of the mens section. They also had fresh popcorn for only 50 cents! Most of their products were overpriced, but pay extra attention to those sale signs to get your best deals!

Loved this store. Dont be fooled this store is MASSIVE inside... 2 stories. Everything from candy, soaps, clothing for the entire family, shoes and sandals, swim wear camping and outdoor gear, knives and so much more. Small pet friendly. Lady with 2 mini poodles inside shopping. Great people, friendly service, good prices and amazing brands such as Rainbow Columbia North Face and many many more. MUST SEE !!

Actually, wish Id had time to browse.I was looking for one, particular item - a turkey baster. Manager at nearby CVS recommended Mast as a place to find accessories for grilling and cooking. Folks at front counter had me check with two guys in the mercantile section in back. They knew inventory and didnt have one, but called around.Extremely helpful staff.Ill certainly be going back, to enjoy shopping - for items Id forgotten from a lifetime ago.

Cool place with lots of stuff

I have shopped the Waynesville store for years and always have been impressed by the staff and service at that store. I reserved a pair of shoes for pick up at the Winston store since they did not have my size there. My wife and I went to the store to pick up the shoes and we were literally ignored for 20 minutes by the staff downstairs. It was obvious that we were not just browsing since we were hanging out in the shoe department. We had 2 clerks walk past us without ever acknowledging us. The store had very few customers in it and I know why now. We left and will go somewhere else for the shoes. I would not ever recommend the Winston store and will never go back there.

Reminds me of my time spent in Boone during college. Very happy to see a small business expand, especially when it opens up right down the street from me! Huge selection of amazing clothing from small labels to Patagonia. Great selection of hiking boots/shoes, as well as candy and toys. I highly recommend shopping at Mast if your stumped on what to buy someone as a gift. They have an item for everyone! It is full of clothing, nick nacks, candy, outdoor gear and lots more, the employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great selection of quality knives that range from lower tier brands such as, case, vitronix, and SOG to upper tier brands such as benchmade. Not to mention their also small but well stocked and varied collection of maps of the North Carolina, east coast and some national parks. They also have really good sales at the end of every season (like getting a Columbia jacket that’s normally $100 for $20). Overall if you need to kill time, or are looking for something quite specific they are a great place to look.

I love going into Mast General Store every time I am in the Piedmont or mountain areas of NC. I went in to get some retro candy and they didnt disappoint. Someone I was with who never had been in the store found a new fleece jacket for her daughter. This is a great store to browse around in. You might be able to find some prices cheaper online, but its nice to support a local area business.

Great old time general store of clothes, dry goods, and top quality outdoor, biking and hiking equipment.. Expect brands such as Marmot, Patagonia, Keen, and Merrill. Its a huge store on two levels and especially good for children with many games, toys and nostalgic candy.

This place is heavenly! A double story gem, I loved everything in here minus the high price tags on everything. Wasnt really much in there that was affordable to me but I had a blast going through and looking at all the stuff there was to offer. They have a giant candy section and some grocery too which surprised me. Definitely come in here and check it out

Very nostalgic great place to visit.

I can not even begin to fully tell you what this place is about. Picture an old time department store, 2 floors tastefully displaying items from shoes, clothing, tons of candy games and novelties. It took me a full hour to see everything. If you need anything, they probably have it and several versions of it. I wish I lived closer because I would love to work here. Employees are knowledgeable and courteous.

A total bonus to the downtown scene. From throw back to current items that every one of any age can enjoy. Worth the trip/time to visit downtown all by itself. Within walking distance of some of the great places to eat that downtown has to offer. An absolute must visit.
