I came for the macaroons. Ive always heard how pricey they can be but I can see why - theyre so good and well made... almost too pretty to eat. After all, they saw we eat with our eyes first ;)Its a cozy atmosphere. When you first walk in, you see the dinning area to the left. It seems as though students use it to study so, if youve come here to chat, you may feel out of place. I believe there are different areas of the house you can rent or that are available at certain times - but dont quote me.The first time I came, there were sugar cookies samples at the register - the second time there were not. I didnt try the sample because I was really looking forward to the macaroons and the lady let my sample their peppermint marshmallow. It was pretty good. The second time I came, I brought my little brother with me. He absolutely LOVED his macaroon and had a fit when he couldnt have anymore. One suggestion - I recommend putting a bell by the register whenever there is a staff meeting, a man and I were waiting about 7 minutes before anyone came to the front. He was there before I was.
This place is stunning. Wonderful space which is historic its an old house from 1912. They have plenty of spots to sit and enjoy your treats or you can take it to go. The parking is very limited but at least it has parking available unlike most of the other spots in town.I ended up getting the Cinnamon Crumb Muffin (not pictured) I went back to try and take a picture because mine didnt make it to the screen (I ate it too quickly) and there were NO more left. If you dont get here early all the most popular selections get gone quickly. This place makes everything fresh daily. Tart Sweets bake daily from scratch in small batches to ensure the highest quality product. They advertise that they always use local fruits and veggies, when possible. Their vanilla and vanilla beans are pure Madagascar vanilla. They use several brands of couverture chocolate and cocoa powder as each brand has its different applications. They keep it simply and bake with butter, cane sugar, hand-cracked eggs, and all-purpose flour. At Tart Sweets real ingredients are the only ingredients you will find.I got the chance to visit today and loved everything about it. The guy running it was so nice and welcoming. He made sure I had everything I needed and even offered me at least a water cup when I only ordered a bakery item at first.Bathrooms are squeaky clean and the whole place is just wonderful. Old but classy you feel me?If you have never came to this place its worth the trip I promise you. Stop by Tart Sweets and satisfy that sweet tooth youve got you might not need it but weve all got to splurge a little right? The caramel frappe was sooooo good with the whipped cream and caramel drizzle. Better than Starbucks by a longshot!
The only word I can use to describe this place is amazing. This place has some of the best sweets in Winston-Salem. Its well hidden on 5th street sir if you are not looking specifically theres a chance you could miss it. I recommend everyone try to visit this place. The sweets can be a bit pricey but for the quality I really cant complain. I have paid more for less Quality elsewhere. The staff is excellent, Willing to answer any question you have. There in thusias Im towards children is inspiring. I will definitely return. Happy I would like to think tart sweets and staff for such an amazing experience.
Hands-down, some of the best French macarons that Ive ever had and I literally drive over an hour to come here but its totally worth it! Ive also tried their Watermelon Lemonade (very refreshing) but have yet to sample any of their other pastries but everything in the case always looks beautiful and the customer service is always top-notch!
A hidden gem that I didnt know existed. Fresh baked goods daily. If you see something that you like or want them to box it for you for a later pick up they are more than happy to do that. Friendly staff. Lovely sitting area in a historic building.
We went here for the start of a ghost tour last fall. The history of this house is super interesting and very creepy! The cakes are delicious
An excellent dessert shop set in a very charming building. I love their cookie sandwiches or stuffed cookies.
Lovely little downtown bakery. Stop by for fresh macarons with coffee for a sweet treat. During the summer they have a cookie dough bar a few afternoons a week, but I can never remember which ones. Parking lot is on the side and accessible via 4 1/2 Street.
I absolutely love this place, but had two small issues this morning. I walked in and had to greet the employee as she stayed busy while I looked around. The second was I asked if I could print three pages black and white. The young lady asked the owner and she declined. I understand, but just rubs me the wrong way when there is one other guest inside, and the only other option close by was a 20min drive round trip. Not their issue I know, but just thought it was a great opportunity to WOW a paying Customer, and they missed it.
I Love tart sweets, they were very welcoming and smiles on. I love the environment. Thats if your into vintage looking building and interior design; but thats not what makes them sweet. Its the desert the cakes, the ice cream, the muffins and my favorite macaroons omg. I love their macaroons different flavors, Im not able to find a place that sales macaroon near me closer than them.
Great variety and amazingly yummy consistently. Havent tried their coffee yet, but ANYTHING you get from here is top quality and fantastic!
Amazing baked goods made from scratch! Friendly service and a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy eating delicious treats in a historic home. Well worth the trip! Also, pre order now for Thanksgiving!
Almost a well kept secret, its a nice cafe and bakery located inside a historic old house that gives it a unique ambiance. Its more than just a bakery, it is one of the best places for coffee in downtown Winston Salem.
Super sweet but terribly overpriced. You should definitely go if you enjoy super sweet things and paying 6.00 for a cookie.
I love love love their almond macarons! Udderly delicious and crisp (made fresh everyday). This place doesnt fail to satisfy my craving and their chocolate banana nut loaf bread is amazingly moist and warm. Especially when you get there within two hours of opening. :) Satisfied.
Must try the Vietnamese Coffee! Parking is always a challenge but that comes with the location. Adorable spot!
Love this place! Yummy treats and a unique environment.
I recently worked with Tart Sweets on a styled shoot at Spring House. Chelsea was so kind, prompt with communication, and delivered equally gorgeous and tasty treats! I would highly recommend them for any event or surprise treat for your special someone!
This is an incredible place! The whole leaf tea and freshly made scone I had were perfect, but the exquisite antique furniture and surroundings make this place particularly special.
I love the new location which makes great space for the coffee shop and sweet shop. I thought their cakes were pretty good but some lacked the moistness I wanted her their other goodies like the cookies and macarons were to die for. Staff are super friendly and helpful too.
They were out of almost everything. BUT... the one thing I did buy was very good.
I love this place so much! It’s cute and sort of quiet! And the treats are phenomenal.
I ate a brown sugar & cinnamon cookie from a co-worker from Tart Sweets - I had never heard of this bakery. To my suprise, it was absolutely awesome! I will start buying my baking goods from this location. Thank you to Tart Sweets!! It was a YUMMY EXPERIENCE!
Best French macarons in Winston thats Ive found. The venue is beautiful and the baked goods are premium. I LOVE this place.
Absolutely gorgeous interior in a historic house near downtown Winston-Salem. Tart Sweets is the bakery equivalent of fine dining; it made me want to return specifically to sit in a comfortable corner leather chair, with a book and a macaron and a proper cup of tea, and enjoy the bright airy dining room. It really put me in mind of high tea in England (which from me is high praise). The fare is expensive but worth it.We came for the last day of the Harry Potter birthday theme. My kids had the Butterbeer Frappuccinos (sweet and delicious), the chocolate fudge cake, the sugar cookie bar and the carrot cake bar. The fudge cake was intense and delicious; it was actually too intensely chocolate to try the others immediately afterwards without a palate-cleansing sip of Butterbeer. The carrot cake bar was the least impressive of the trio; it was good, but didn’t stand out. The sugar cookie bar has a strong almond flavor and demands Earl Grey tea to go with it. I ordered a Vietnamese Iced Coffee, and it’s worth noticing that between two adults and three children, that was the only thing that anyone was able to finish (the rest came home).
Good pastries at a moderate price. its in a very cute old house and they have their own parking, though street parking along the road is free and almost always available
Love the atmosphere. We like to grab a coffee and a sweet snack and hang out on the back patio.
Very nice sweets, fresh and yummy. Highly Recommend!
Carrot cake bar and peppermint mocha made a great afternoon snack. Chelsea and Lynn provide great food and have become good friends over the last several years.
Went here for a baby shower. It was beautiful. This place is lovely.
Apparently they are closed for repairs or whatever is going on. They could have posted that on the website before I drove 30 minutes to get here.
Everything I have tried has been good from the Macaroons to the cakes and other desserts
I only tried the macarons and they were DELICIOUS. they need music but, I had a very pleasant experience.
Great atmosphere in an early 1900s home and great baked goods!
Wonderful treats, great service, very genuine owner!Highly recommend!!!
There food is so pretty and delicious
Good cakes and macaroons. Coffee is not stabill: sometimes great in town sometimes bitter.
Beautiful place to enjoy sweets and coffee. Loved it!
Lovely place to have wonderful treats, great coffee and meet with friends.
Beautifully restored house, with delicious macarons & tea. Will definitely be back!
Baked goods and coffee are perfection. The staff was helpful and inviting.

Its the coffee shop version of the bar where everyone knows your name . Everything baked in house. Great ambience.
