Love it! I love craft beer. I am a brewer, myself. CFWB has one of the best beer selections around. There is usually some great cider and mead on tap too. They have a ton of rotating taps and an excellent bottle selection. I cant speak for the wine or liquor, since thats not my thing, but it looks like they have a large selection of wines. The staff is great. They are always friendly. They keep things interesting with Beer Church, Lowlife Croquet, Xbox, pinball leagues, a pool table and great brews. It has a really cool vibe. Stop by and you will see what I mean. They also regularly host fundraisers for wonderful charities. If you see me at Beer Church, mention this post and I will buy you a beer.
CFWB is great because they have a huge selection of beer and a unique vibe in Wilmington. Visit if you like a big selection of good drinks with expert advice from solid bartenders, but also come for the punk music, vintage horror movies, interesting people of all walks of life, etc. Lector runs an interesting place; even though I go out to bars far less these days, CFWB is the one I choose to get the most bang for my buck.
Great service, and good selection. The atmosphere was also very nice. The overall experience was great.
Bartenders are very rude! Almost like your wasting their time for ordering a beer. Went to the bar next door and totally different experience. They have plenty of stories to tell you about those bartenders. Surprised their still in business.
Unique selection of beers, wines, and mead. Theres a Nintendo switch you can ask to play
Beer was Great, Lecter was a good guy behind the Bar
Rude staff. (When we walked in with 7 month old, the bartender said we were not allowed in with anyone under 21). It would have been fine but when my friend said “oh we just wanted to sit outside,” he proceeded to said “I don’t care where you want to sit if they’re under 21 they can’t come in). We only wanted to buy some bottles and have one drink. But we didn’t need to be told “I don’t care”.
Love Love Love this place. Once you walk in you are family.
Best place downtown to have a drink and mingle with friends. This place is low key and everyone is always so friendly when we come here. Definitely one of my favorite places in Wilmington. They have a great outside area where you can sit and chat. Would highly recommend Cape Fear Wine & Beer if you are in the Wilmington area!!!
A fine spot in downtown Wilmington to enjoy a vast selection of high end craft beer!
Great atmosphere, awesome owners!
Great place. Pool table a few nice pinball machines. An astounding beer selection. This place is great. New ami jukebox. Lots of music you wont get on other brands. Atmosphere reminds me of a northern ireland pub. Old and classy but not pretentious. If you like good beer this place is where you need to visit.
Love the selection and door guys.
Cool spot w unique beers... and pinball.
I love this place but I seriously dont fit in. Always the youngest and I have no idea what to drink there. The bartenders are so welcoming and friendly. They know their beers and wines well. Always make sure to stop here
Wlmingtons premiere club for leather jacket enthusiasts.
A great beer selection. Friendly and helpful bartenders. Overall a great place. If you love sour beers, the 5oz Cascade pours are an awesome way to try something new. The tangerine one currently available is really good. I have never actually had wine there, but as look around the room at all the bottles, it must be an equally good selection.
Large selection of craft drafts.
The place to quench your craft beer loving palatte. Great staff, nice outdoor space and A TON of bevvy selections. The only place is town you can print your dogs face on your pint.
Love this place .owners are great..
Great selection of beer. The staff is always kind. The owner goes out of his way to talk to people and make them feel at home. I don’t drink wine, but from what I hear they have a great selection of that as well!
Great selection. Bartender was great. Super patient with us as were mildly intoxicated and took forever to make up our minds.
If you only visit one bar in Wilmington, it has to be this place. Bartenders are knowledgeable and passionate about good beer and good service. Relaxed atmosphere during the day, lively but not obnoxious at night, like most of Front Street. Cape Fear has all of the tart and sour beers I could dream of! You won’t find generic, run of the mill beers here; HUGE variety of good craft beers, only. I’ve moved away from NC and I don’t think I can ever find a place that compares in beer selection or vibe. This place is the bee’s knees.
Angela is wiiiide open but the sweetest and friendliest peoples ever. The owner Maaike is super rad also. Billie Holiday is playing in the background, and Im definitely okay with that. This place would get more stars if they offered it. 👍
This is a great spot to have wine or beer after work, walking distance from a lot of lodging downtown. Its really great to find a reasonably priced wine bar that has good quality and good prices combined. Its not one of those fancy wine bars, so there is no pretense to the feel of the place. Very relaxing.
Josh and Cece are awesome and fun! Also Josh who I see checking IDs is so patient and nice! I love CFWB because there are always dogs and it nice to sit and watch people walk by when the weather is nice! Delicious beer/wine list and great bartenders!
We went out looking for a chill hangout and found it. Fantastic selection of draught beers, good wine list and very knowledgeable people working the bar. We got great recommendations and found a new favourite cider hybrid.
Good ipa selection!
I asked for a sample of one of their exclusive beers and the girl bartender told me that she couldn’t give me one because every time the handle is pulled it serves an entire pint. 5 min later I asked the other guy behind the bar and he gave me a sample. Being lied to ranks pretty high on my list of things I find repulsive
Amazing beer and cider selection! I love that there is always a cider I havent tried--always something new and different. Great music, too! My new favorite place.
This is my favorite pub in downtown Wilmington. Why ?..because the place is quirky. You cannot find a mega brewery beer in the house. The selections are all micro breweries and imports. They have about 20 beers on tap and another 200 brands in bottles. Inside there is ample seating as well as some games of skill. There is also Front street seating outdoors.
Pretty decent draft selection. Very helpful staff. The bartenders know what they are talking about. Id recommend it on a lowkey night. I will be returning.
Angela is the best ! We are coming back to Wilmington just for her! Super friendly, what customer service really is about ! Thank you Angela for helping us pick the best beer for all of us ! You rock this place !
Selection and atmosphere is phenomenal. Ask for Angela and the experience will be the best in Wilmington guaranteed!
The best Dive Bar in Wilmington, punk rock music and pinball machines, thats living well!
They were open during hurricane Matthew, which I chased down from Charlotte, and I enjoyed some delicious beers there while the storm lashed the coast outside. Came back for Hurricane Florence. This time they werent open but Im not gonna knock em for that. However, I will be a hurricane regular if yall are open!
Love the atmosphere!
The best beer selection in Wilmington! Super nice staff and a great atmosphere.
This is a jewel in Wilmington. The owners work hard to make their beverages tasty and the atmosphere both homey and fun. Bonus: they have great food trucks on the weekends.
This bar is a must-stop for true beer connoisseurs. An impressive, well rounded draft list that always includes regionals, domestics, and imports. They get some really impressive stuff on draft here! But dont think this place is only for beer snobs. In fact, dont make the mistake of not asking the bar staff for recommendations if you feel overwhelmed by the choices. The staff is really good at their job, they know beer and they know about all the beers they have (dont forget this is also a bottle shop, so they have a lot!). And unlike most of the new craft beer/bottle shops popping up that have a cant tell them apart, hipster vibe, this old school place is a total punk rock hangout.
I really enjoy this bar, please keep in mind that you must be 21 to be there which is sweet! Cape Fear Wine and Beer offers an outstanding amount of beers and wines, they also have a decent outside area where you can people watch the bustling downtown area.
My favorite place and people to spend time with. I love this place.
Best bar in town. Excellent selection, knowledgeable bartenders, and a calendar full of beer related events. Rotating taps with old favorites and new discoveries. Youd be crazy to spend any time in Wilmington and not visit Cape Fear Wine & Beer.
This place is great. I come her every time I come to Wilmington, anyone who likes to drink and doesnt necessarily need hard liquor should definitely try this place
If u want delicious craft beer, this is the place. If u want cheap PBR or Coors, go somewhere else. Staff is knowledgeable and will certainly assist u in making the right choice. Prices are reasonable.
I had a professional conference in the area and i saw a lot of front street, and honestly this and lulas were the best spots but im giving the review to the folks at cape fear because they are great people with great drink offerings. I met celebrities and your everyday folk here and gotta say i would be in the first seat if i get back to wilmington. Micah and Angela are the best! Heres to Aville connection!!!
Theyre pretty welcoming to people who dont know much about wine or beer.
Fantastic beer list!Fantastic beer variety! If you are in the area, and you want great beer, this is the place!Joan was our tender and she was well versed in inventory and beer. She helped me pick beers that I found outstanding!I was impressed with her knoweledge, and with the place as a whole! My experience there was top noch, friendly, knowledgeable staff, comfortable seating areas, friendly clientele. This is the beer joint that you want to go back to again and again!I did not have any wine, however I have no doubt that it would be great as well!Go here!
Good beer friendly staff
Beer is good but expensive.Staff is friendly but the customers not so much. Not really this places fault though it just attracts that type I guess.
Always a good place to go for a drink.
Great place, amazing craft beer. Attentive bartenders. Usually a good movie on.
Great beer selection and pinball!
Best freaking bar in Wilmington!! Amazing selection, great music, awesome people; love everything about this place!!
Always killer with no filler. Great beer. Great tunes. Always friendly staff.
If the abv of all those brews was listed, itd be a more informative and all around better experience. Outside of that, it was a grand experience. The outside out back was grand, the Irish guy at the bar was a nice touch. Kudos
Niche bar....craft beers and wine only. Plenty of space....numerous bar games to play. But if you arent a beer or wine coniseur youre in the wrong place.
Your typical hole-in-the-wall kind of bar. The selection of different craft beers is quite good. I cant say I was a big fan of the decór. It was kind of like being in a creepy neighbors basement. However, I am sure some people find that charming. I think the staff were friendly, overall. I did have a strange conversation with an overly intoxicated man while I was here (not unusual for a bar haha) but it caused me to cut my visit shorter than I would like.
Great atmosphere. Great price. Great selection.
Always a good time to swing by they have a great selection of brews and wine.
Favorite place downtown! Great beer! Great environment! Great staff !
Great selection, knowledgeable staff. Ive repeatedly been able to find small batch seasonals to take home, or experience something new (to me) and great while there by being open to recommendations.
Great beer selection and they dont play loud music. A great place for some friends to go and talk
Always an excellent and wide-ranging selection of beers. And when in doubt, ask your bartender or just about anyone in the bar as this is a place where folks are serious about their beer. A big draft list and an even bigger bottle list means youll find a new drink every time.
This is my go to place downtown. They have Mead, which is awesome. Beer selection is always plentiful and unique, so theres something for everyone.
With friendly staff who never scoffs at your lack of knowledge, yet wants to share their love and appreciation of well crafted beers, you can learn a lot at Cape Fear Wine & Beer. You could also just sit back and enjoy a beer while listening to great music and conversation. The atmosphere is very laid back and luckily this bar did not lose its charms when it moved from the small location on Water St to Front St.Every time Ive been there the bartenders and owners have helped me select something new and different according to my tastes and they were all spot on. They have beer cards where if you drink 50 different beers, you get a bumper sticker that you cant buy, you have to earn it. I like that idea.Theres a great group of regulars and there are always little events going on which make it much more than a place to go swill alcohol until youre stumbly.
I went to Cape Fear Wine and Beer for the first time on Sunday, 2/23/15. I am a craft beer connoisseur and fully appreciate bars that focus on craft and local brews. I have spent the last several years working in the service industry and I am well versed on the importance of customer service. I have never felt so disrespected at a bar in my entire life. The bartender was extremely rude to my family and I. So much so in fact, that we did not order a second round, we (locals) will NEVER return, and will share our experience with anyone who asks.My brother-in-law emailed the establishment in hopes that management will take care of this issue. As a restaurant employee, I would hope that customers would reach out to my management team if a co-worker treated our customers that way. Hopefully, others had a better experience than us, but I highly doubt it.
Good location and beer selection, friendly staff
My favorite bar in Wilmington! The only place I want to stop in if Im down town. If you want a small atmosphere and craft, import, and micro brews this is the place without a doubt.
Awesome bar, friendly staff and some of the best people watching. Excellent beer selection but no liquor if thats what youre looking for.
This is the best bar in Wilmington, in my opinion. I moved away in 2014, and throughout the triangle I have not found a better combination of bottle shop and bar.
These guys have been curating craft beer before craft beer was cool. Outstanding selection of beers from around the world.
Great selection of beers. Friendly bartenders. No frills, just good beer.
This place is amazing good music, live band perfect place to stop in for a drink and fun
Best bottle shop in town
Fantastic staff, great selection, and a laid-back venue. Simply the best in Wilmington.
Great place! Josh was tending bar and was great! Beer Church is a great thing:)
Knowledgeable, friendly staff, low-key atmosphere, a ton of excellent beer on tap, and a great wine and bottled beer selection.
This place is solid. This bartender is haliraious and very attentive. Totally recommend.
Great beer list, constantly changing. Many good times had and will continue to have.
Cozy place and a huge selection of craft beers.
Best bar for a wide selection, great atmosphere, and wonderful staff/service in the coastal region!
Huge selection of unique beers, very knowledgeable bartenders, friendly atmosphere. My favorite place in Wilmington by far.
Beer snobs will be happy with their selection, and their staff has always been helpful and patient in helping less experienced beer drinkers in the group decide. Unpretentious, great spot.
Will not return. Rude staff and unwelcoming environment. Many other bars and restaurants in downtown Wilmington that offer much more pleasant experience. Very sad because we were excited by the beer selections.... Was not impressed with wine selections.
Cool place and people
One of my favorite bars in Wilmington! Great people and great beer.
Great beer, friendly service (except that one chick), pool table and a nice outside smoking area
Really friend staff, great selection, and great atmosphere!
Great selection of beer, wine, and many other beverages. Nice staff and a friendly watering hole
Great local place. Very friendly and a nice large selection of beer to choose from.
Bartenders rock, great beer selection
Local dive bar with awesome selections! Im a cider drinker, and they never disappoint.
Beer Church. Good tap list. The down side is the smoking area is in front of the door.
If you dont visit this place for an outstanding beer selection and a wonderful staff you are doing yourself a disservice.
Classic English pub style, classic punk jukebox, pinball, billiards and a MONUMENTAL beer selection. Best bar in town.
You want real variety and selection from around the world with an extensive wine list to boot, here you go! Great location with an intimate slightly punk feel.
