AVOID! I am a consumer, not a contractor. I recently decided to install metal screen gutter guards on some of the gutters on our 2200 sq. ft. house, before the leaves fall. I searched for some that snap in and out of the gutters, without requiring disturbing the shingles. I found some online that looked suitable last week: E-Z Gutter Guards, manufactured by Midwest Enterprises. Midwest told me their 5-inch wide, 4 feet-long Step Down guards would work very well. They recommended Skyline Enterprises in Arvada. I called Skyline, and spoke with Ashley, who confirmed that they had them in stock, and would be happy to sell me some. On October 7, 2020, I drove the 25 or so miles to Skyline, and spoke with Ashley. She showed me a mock-up of how they fit on the gutter. Since I live so far away, I decided to buy as many as I might need for the gutters, given assurances by Midwest and Skyline that they were fit for the purpose, and would work. They come in boxes of 25, and cost $3.80 per unit. As I was not certain whether they would work, or whether I would use all 200 feet, I explicitly asked Ashley if I could return any I did not use for a refund. She responded that I could. At NO time did Ashley say anything about a re-stocking fee, or that it is their policy to only give store credit. If she HAD told me there would be a re-stocking charge, or that they would only give me store credit if I returned them, I would NEVER have bought them. Instead, she explicitly assured me I could return them for a refund. I NEVER was shown or signed anything acknowledging or accepting I could not return any unused guards for a cash refund. To my dismay, when I attempted to install one, it was absolutely impossible. They did NOT snap in. There was insufficient clearance between the gutter hangers and the shingles to permit installation. I called Ashley and told her the guards were unfit for the purpose, and that I would have to return them. She NEVER said there would be a re-stocking fee or only store credit. On Monday October 12, 2020, I called Skyline to confirm they would be open, so I could return the gutter guards. For the first time EVER, Ashley informed me that there would be a re-stocking fee for any returns. I told her I never would have purchased them if she had told me that BEFORE I purchased them, and that I would not pay it. She said she would speak to the owner about it and get back to me, and I told here I dont much care what the owner says, as the law requires them to take a return and refund my money (minus $3.80 + taxes for the one unit I essentially destroyed in my futile attempt to fit it into a gutter). Early in the afternoon of October 12, 2020, I drove to Skyline Enterprises, entered via the public entrance, greeted Ashley, and told her that I was there to return the gutter guards. She wandered off. Eventually, there appeared before me an officious geek in glasses. He rudely interrupted me when I in a quite friendly tone explained the situation, and patronizingly told me, We only sell to contractors, and our policy is only to only give people store credit for returns. I told him no one informed me of any such policy and I never would have bought them, if they had. He told me he would line me up with a professional contractor. I told him I had no intention of paying someone to do something I could do. He stonewalled. I asked him what they sell that I might want. He agreed they sell nothing I would want, then falsely accused me of “bullying. When I persisted in refusing to accept his terms, he tried to force me accept his terms by threatening to have me arrested. He had never asked me to leave. I was NOT, as a business invitee in a public area, trespassing. When he either pretended to call the police or actually did, I asked to speak with the police myself to explain that he was attempting to use the threat of arrest as a bargaining tool, forcing me to accept his terms whether they are lawful, or not. I learned during his call that his name is Nick Rich. I left the premises.
