I went in after having a horrible experience with goggles and I was wanting to try new ones. All the salesperson had to say was its mostly trial and error. The pair you have already is our best seller. Really lady!? I drove 45 minutes to listen to that line of garbage? Know your products. And learn to help your customers instead of offering zero solutions other than maybe this one will work...oh, and by the way, you cant return it if it doesnt. Poor service. Poor attitude. Would definitely not recommend.Note: Preston: the word you were looking for is “entitled” not entitlement. And instead of attempting to insult me, why don’t you fix the issues with your staff? She was extremely rude. I hope you go out of business. And fast. Thanks for nothing.

I signed up for the Chicago triathlon and Urban Tri Gear was at the open swim clinic. They rented me a wetsuit for $20 and taught me how to put it on. Preston was so patient with all my questions (thickness, thermal versus not, tearing, how to care for the suit). I loved the suit so much I called the next day and ordered that same size and brand. They gave me $20 off due to the rental I had already paid for and gave me free shipping!! Which is incredible since the brand itself sold that same suit for $80 more expensive and was out of my size. The suit arrived in the mail just 3 days later! Im so excited to get back out in the open water. Thank you Urban Tri Gear!!

All I can say is unbelievable world-class service from the heart. Went in to buy a wetsuit and left with so much more I can not put it in to words. This is the way a family business should be. Thank you very much you have a loyal customer.

Called twice during business hours to confirm they were open before I rode 8 miles to buy a swim cap. VM said they cannot take the call and to call during regular business hours. It was noon. I took a chance because I needed a swim cap for an upcoming tri. There was a woman at the desk and I asked are you the only one here? She said yes. I said I called twice to confirm you were open. She said, why wouldnt we be. I said it happens. Since Covid, my experience has been that businesses do not answer their phones, probably due to understaffing due to cost cutting measure due to Covid. She (I found out later that she was the owner) said she was very busy the past few hours. It is frustrating to not be able to reach a business to ask questions or simply confirm if they are open before biking or driving to discover they are not. This literally happened to me a couple of weeks ago with a coffee shop and its not the first time. I walked several blocks to buy a coffee before boarding a train and there was a note on the door that they would be closed that entire week. I also called as I was walking over but no one answered. There was no VM message explaining the circumstances in either case for those of us who choose to be prepared. The owner of Urban Tri Gear seemed surprised that happens. I can understand that times are tough for businesses as a result of Covid and maybe you have to let staff go or reduce hours to stay afloat but if you cannot hire enough staff, how about leaving a message on your VM stating If you have reached our VM, we are assisting customers and cannot take your call. Today is July 29th and we are open from 10-6p. Please stop in and we would be more than happy to assist you in all your tri-gear needs. Thank you for your understanding. Pretty simple. On another note, I arrive at an sports store on a bike and there is not a bike rack to be seen. Perhaps the landlord does not allow it. If I were the owner, I would inquiry about installing something for bikes. I used the handicap sign. This owner may care less, she made a sale with me out of necessity but I will not go back. Poor customer service.

Pretty disappointed… bought a swimskin from here before a 70.3 as a back-up in case the race ended up not being wetsuit legal. The swimskin was from Zoot and pretty expensive. With tags still on the skin and it never being worn, they won’t accept any returns. This was not mentioned to me at the time of purchase, so I’m bummed. Probably won’t come back here again to buy tri gear. Cheaper to find things online and order from Zoot directly, especially when Zoot offers a 30 day return. I would understand if the suit has been raced in, but it is literally brand new with tags.

I was in the market for a new seat for my entry level road Felt. These guys were incredibly helpful. They have me a few options. I could find the one i wanted and buy it, the usual for most stores. Alternatively they said i could rent a couple seats to try for $25 or i could bring my bike into the store, our it on their trainer, and test out some while there. I settled on the last one. While at the store the guy (sadly, i didnt get his name) remembered me from two days before and was eager to help even though he was already helping two other guys simultaneously. He had me try six different seats of varying styles and prices. He didnt push me towards any one particular brand or style and was most concerned with how it felt for me.These guys knew their products and the pros/cons of various features. They were personable, friendly, and knowledgeable. Ill be back!

Just bought a road bike for my 11 year old son. They do a professional fitting and give very helpful advice. If you are an enthusiast, they have every level from entry to top end bike (Cervelo, Orbea, Cannondale). They service the bikes with a level of expertise I think is difficult to find from a big box store. This was the third road bike I’ve bought from then and every one (I’ve purchased a Raleigh Revenio Carbon bike and a Cannondale Slice 5) of them has been as advertised. They can give you a history of a particular bike company. They seem to really take pride in the craft of bike sales, service, and fitting. Their prices are fair they do courtesy adjustments to the bike as needed.

This is a great shop. After a well known mechanic in the area told me to go here for a mountain bike part I honestly was hesitant. After calling around and having no luck I went in to UTG. To my surprise they had the part and gave me a great price. This place turned into my favorite shop for a few reasons.1. The guys are genuinely honest and do great work.2. They don’t try to up sell you or over charge like a lot of other places I have been to.3. Even though the shop is small, there is a lot of cool parts and beautiful bikes to just checkout.I think this is what a local bike shop should be and I am glad to frequent it more often than I probably should.

I can’t say enough good things about Luke and Dave. Their expertise and depth of knowledge is unmatched to all of the other bike shops I have been. They have been exceptionally helpful and patient with me as they basically designed and built a bike for me. On top of that, they have educated and helped me effectively reach some lofty goals in cycling. I will not go to any other bike shop other than UTG.

Devyn was awesome helping me get a wet suit and some other essentials for my first tri. She also answered the millions of questions I had and reminded me to just go out and have fun! I met her husband at Leon’s the next day and he was equally nice and helpful. In the past I’ve bought my stuff online to save a few bucks but supporting a business like this is a must. I highly recommend shopping at Urban Tri Gear for all of your triathlon needs. Thanks again guys! (Finished 2:36 for Olympic. 73/201 :-) I’m hooked!

Great place and friendly service. We got great advice especially for my brother and I who are novice runners. A larger show selection would be nice, but maybe its because they recently relocated. Nice people and great service! Would highly recommend for personal service that you just dont get at a big athletics store.

I am a competitive swimmer, and had swam for a few years before deciding to buy a fast skin. After talking to swimmers edge on the phone and realizing you had to PAY(!!!) to try these suits on, I knew I needed to find a different place to purchase one. After talking to some friends I tried urban tri gear. I was very satisfied! The people there were so helpful! I knew nothing about sizing prices, or anything. They talked to me about all of it, and helped me understand which suit was best for me. The man that helped me was very down to the point and helpful. He never tried to sell a more expensive product, but instead evaluated my needs and found a perfect fit. After hours of trying on numerous sizes (for free), he helped me find my size. Every time I had a question, they had an answer, and helped the process go by easily. Great staff, great facility. Will be returning for any of my future swim needs.
