Weddings by Design has such a beautiful array of wedding dresses to choose from. When I started the search for my gown, I wasnt entirely sure what I wanted. This was the second store I went to and was blown away by the customer service and selection. All of the staff are so sweet and willing to answer any questions I had and offer suggestions. Despite all my indecisiveness, they helped me find the wedding dress of my dreams! I was also able to find my veil there and they were able to order a new one for me with no issues! It was so nice that I was able to store my dress and veil there until the day before the wedding, as well as have it professionally steamed. I cannot recommend Weddings by Design enough!!
Weddings by Design was just the right place for me to find my wedding dress and veil, in addition to the bridesmaid dresses and the men’s suits. All of the staff here are helpful and kind. They were always willing to answer any of my questions whenever I called. It was convenient that I could store my dress here until the wedding day and have them steam my dress right before the wedding day. They also steamed all of the bridesmaid dresses for us and ensured that the guys had the right sizes and everything for their suits. I would definitely recommend Weddings by Design for any bride looking for her perfect wedding dress and help with any other wedding attire needs!
Kelsey was AMAZING to work with!! I was so unsure of what exactly I wanted & she was so kind and fun as she helped me through the whole process. She made me feel comfortable & confident. Being plus size, I was worried I would struggle finding a dress, but the shop has a wide variety of plus size dresses! Kelsey was able to work her magic & helped me find a dress that makes me feel stunning. I’m from out of state and can’t wait to bring my bridesmaids there & also CANT wait to pick up my dress!! Kelsey is the best!! I highly recommend Weddings By Design.
During my initial trip for wedding dress shopping I was hesitant. I had an idea in mind what I thought I wanted. The girls in shop were so nice and let me try on several dresses to find the right one for me. When I finally found the one (which was nothing like I had thought I wanted) the ordering process was easy! It came in a little earlier than expected. When the big day came I had them store and steam my dress. They made sure to call me ahead of time to confirm when I would be there and were so nice. Their kindness is something I truly loved about my experience with them! And I still can’t get over how beautiful my dress is!
Melissa and staff made sure my experience was perfect from when i picked out my gown to when i picked it up prior to the wedding. I will continue to suggest any bride come see them and fully experience what it’s like being a weddings but design bride. I had so many compliments on my dress and the men’s attire. Everything turned out PERFECT!
I very rarely write reviews but I felt compelled to write this one. I was dreading dress shopping. Im not a dress person, not someone comfortable in my own skin and I just didnt want to do it. I decided to go by myself to just figure out what I would look good in and go from there. I worked with Kelsey. It was just the two of us in the shop. She was personable, patient, kind, understanding, thoughtful -- just wonderful. I was terrified walking in but I was laughing with her within 10 minutes, tops. My family had a lot of questions since I went alone and Kelsey answered all of them with empathy and endless patience. I never felt pressured to buy. Kelsey was always mindful of my budget. When I had questions the next day, she continued to answer them with patience and then ultimately walked me through the buying and contract process. The entire process was easy and she made it fun. I didnt think I would ever find a dress that I actually liked, let alone loved and Kelsey made all of that happen for me and more. If youre a plus size bride or just not comfortable in your skin and looking for a dress, theyll take good care of you here!
Stopped in (as it says we can online) to inquire about men’s wear for our wedding. There was a lady with bright red hair arguing with some other clients we stepped outside and let them talk. Once we went back in we stated we were inquiring and the lady with red hair rudely stated she “doesn’t have time for us unless we make an appointment” felt very unwelcome and disorganized in the short 10 minutes we were there. Will not be going back.
Unfortunately did not have a great experience during my bridal appointment. My mom, sisters and I walked in the door and was instantly asked what other bridal stores I had been to and if I had any other appointments scheduled. I tried on several dresses and fell in love with one but the environment and attitude of the consultant who was working with my family and I made me question my decision. Let’s just say there were eye rolls and slamming of the curtain that made everyone feel on edge and awkward. I was offered 10% off if I bought the dress by the time the store closed that day... my appointment was at 3:30pm and store closed at 5pm. She told me about the deal at 4:32pm...The consultant had the audacity to ask if I wanted to cancel my appointment that I had scheduled at a different bridal shop the following day. Overall the woman we worked with was not professional or genuine. What’s sad is I ended up finding the exact dress I loved there at a different store in the Twin Cities. Would have loved to bought it at Weddings By Design as previous experiences there were really pleasant!
I got my dress at the beginning of the pandemic. When all other dress shops closed, Weddings by Design was able to not only keep my appointment, but also limited their appointments and I was able to bring a few friends and family along with me. We were in our own section of the store and felt very safe! The associate who helped me was so kind and knew exactly what to pull for me from a very photos. This was my first time trying on dresses and I was able to find my dream dress! Also great experience picking up my dress and having my veil shipped to me, within 12 hours of it arriving to the shop. High recommend!!
Hands down the most professional and fun loving team of individuals. I had spent the majority of one day just jumping in and out of dresses I thought Id like but didnt and ones I never thought I would but did and appreciated the patience and feedback of staff. I had such a good experience! So many beautiful dresses to look at and all of the staff members were helpful and nice. I found my dress (thanks again Danielle!) and loved every other dress I tried on. The store itself was elegant and welcoming; and the staff make it so easy to find what you’re looking for! If youre looking for a wedding dress, please please please look into Weddings by Design. After having a not-so great experience at another shop in the Des Moines area (literally left in tears), Weddings by Design blew my mind away. Kelsey made things so easy for me. When I told her some of my hot buttons and some of my nots, she immediately knew which dresses to and not to pick (the other shop had me fill out a questionnaire and didnt even have any dresses in mind for me, so this was huge). She was not high pressured, she made things personable, fun and exciting. Most importantly, she made me feel like a bride. Even with everything happening with COVID and potentially not being able to even wear a dress, Weddings by Design always followed up with me. And, when my top dress was going to be set to be discontinued - guess what? They made sure to call me. Thank you so much to Weddings by Design and Kelsey for creating such a welcome and safe environment for not only me, but my Fiance as well (yes, he was there). I am so happy that I said yes to the dress with you. I cannot wait to get my dress and have you apart of this process with me!

If you’re looking for great customer service and beautiful gowns, you have to visit Weddings by Design. My daughter found the perfect gown there! She loved it so much she said she wanted to get married once a month just so she could wear it again!! ☺️ She had a large wedding party and each one of them found a Sorella Vita bridesmaid dress that made them feel beautiful, yet comfortable. One of the girls ordered her dress after the initial order went in and her dress still came in with the others. Kelsey, Melissa and Jude were great to work with! Our daughter isnt getting married until May 2021, but when we found out that you were having a trunk show for her favorite designer, we made an appointment. She loves essence of Australia and much to our surprise, there are only 3 bridal stores that carry them. Aly is the one that helped us and once she knew Amandas favorites it didnt take her long to pull them plus a few others. Once she started trying them on, Aly had her in and out of them really fast,giving her plenty of time to try them all on. I couldnt believe what a beautiful selection there was. In the end she picked her favorite one that she had tried on at Something Blue in February. Everything was amazing and I would definitely recommend coming to Weddings by Design!! Thanks for helping my daughter find the dress of her dreams!!!
My sister just brought her dress from here. We worked with Linda and it was a wonderful experience. The staff understood what my sister was looking and only pulled dresses in her style. Everyone we encountered in the store was super friendly and supportive but not pushy. I would highly recommend.
The staff at Weddings By Design are absolutely wonderful! They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. If you have a question that they do not know the answer to they go out of their way to try to find the answer whether it be alteration prices to an estimate on how many bustles your dress might need to what bridesmaid dresses would compliment your dress best. As a bride, I was made to feel special and beautiful. Finding the dress can always be a little bit of a challenging task but they made me feel beautiful and reassured me every step of the way. Im happy to say that I found my dress at Weddings By Design. My bridesmaids visited here after a horrible experience at Heart to Heart Bridal in North Liberty, feeling a little discouraged that they were not going to be treated well, but the staff once again went above and beyond our expectations. They were wonderful helping pick out dresses and looking at color swatches. They even were willing to let me try my dress on again for my bridesmaids and future MIL who had not seen it yet! Weddings by Design is an absolutely wonderful place to go. Whenever I go in to try on my dress or to look at bridesmaids dresses I am always greeted by name and with a smile. The owner is a wonderful person and it shows in her employees as well. My experience with Weddings by Design has been great! One thing I noticed when I started looking for my wedding dress is that many shops dont appreciate drop ins. I can understand why as trying on gowns requires the help of a sales clerk, but on a few occasions I stopped in other shops just as I was passing by to take a peak, not necessarily try any dresses on.In the other shops I would walk in the door simply stating that I was just browsing at the moment and wanted to see if it was worth making an appointment with my sister and mom to come back. I was often met eye rolling and snotty remarks, with an overall feeling that I was simply wasting their time since I wasnt ready to try on a dress.. This was disappointing and surprising to me.My mom and I were passing by Weddings By Design one day and thought we might pop in. I warned my mom that most shops dont appreciate that, but we proceeded anyway. Upon entering the store, we were greeted with open arms! Melissas cousin (I cant think of her name at the moment) was wonderful! It was so refreshing and immediately made me feel comfortable.I ended up purchasing my dress, tuxedos, bridesmaid dresses and mother of the bride dress at Weddings By Design. In short, despite the fact that I was a walk in customer, I had thousands of dollars to be spent and no other shop in town deserved my money more that Weddings By Design.Thank you!

I am so thankful my search for bridesmaids dresses brought me to Weddings by Design. I looked at every single store in Des Moines and a few in the Twin Cities. I was so frustrated with the lack of selection and variety at every store I went to. I had a really specific vision I wanted for my girls and I also wanted to make sure what I picked would work for my two pregnant bridesmaids so they would feel comfortable and beautiful. I just stopped by Weddings by Design one day and Kelsey helped me pick out a few really great options. I was so thankful for her help and expertise. She really cares about seeing a brides vision come to life. She even showed me some pictures of another bridal group with a similar look I was going for so I could more easily see things all put together. She took the better part of an hour helping me, even though I was just a walk in. She went above and beyond. On top of that, the only day I could get my closest friend from Des Moines to come in, they were set to be closed. I called and explained the situation and they opened up the store just for us. They have the best costumer service of any store in Des Moines, and it is very obvious they care a lot about every person that comes in their store. They also have an incredible selection of bridesmaids dresses, and the most bridesmaids dresses of any store I have seen in the Des Moines area. This should be number one on your list of stores to go to!
Weddings By Design will forever have my vote! I found this boutique after the dress I had ordered from another boutique in Des Moines arrived and fell well below its standards. Melissa, the Owner, Kelsey, the Manager, and two of the Attendants, Kelsey and Linda all helped me though a nightmare that drug on for months with the previous boutique. The whole team went above and wildly beyond their means to guide me through the debacle even though I didn’t find my new dress through them. This team does everything in their power to uphold top of the line service and respect for their clients. I have never received customer service that was so compassionate, attentive and helpful! I will never forget and always be thankful for this amazing team, thank you ladies!!
Weddings By Design creates such a fun & cool experience when shopping for that special occasion. I visited the Tux Shop at Weddings By Design and was extremely impressed with the store. The staff is always having fun and smiling, and very helpful, especially for us guys that could use a little bit of assistance in this department! As far as the tuxedos go, they had such wide selection of styles, colors, patterns etc. that it makes pairing the bridesmaid dresses/wedding dress and tuxedos/suits very simple. There was no need for us to go anywhere else once my wife found the dress she loved there at Weddings By Design. I highly recommend checking this shop out right away!
Weddings by Design provided incredible service! I had several appointments the day I stopped in and the customer service here blew everywhere else out of the water! I am a thicker bride and I feel like they had so many options of gowns for me to try in a variety silhouettes that werent the standard A Line gown. I ended up finding my dress at another shop however I will be going back to Weddings by Design for my bridesmaids dresses and I highly recommend them to any bride! I cannot thank the staff enough for making me feel beautiful and making me feel comfortable with my body! It meant a lot to me!

I cannot express how grateful I am to Kelsey at Weddings by Design! I was THAT bride that tried on 20+ dresses until I found the perfect one and she made sure of that. I love this boutique so much that I chose them for my bridesmaid dresses and tuxes as well. My bridesmaid dresses were all different colors/styles along with the groomsmens bowties and Kelsey made sure my vision came true. Jude also did amazing at altering my dress. Wonderful experience! We found my daughters wedding dress here last weekend. Had an appointment on Saturday and needed a little extra time, so booked another spot for Sunday before we left. Went from here to a large discount wedding store where we had a horrible time. The quality of service and the quality of the dresses was superior at Weddings By Design and the prices were very close. We had so much fun with her consultant and when the store was quiet, with the whole staff. Would recommend Weddings By Design and Paulette to anyone looking for the personal touch. The whole experience was great.

We happened to walk in on a Saturday which would have been totally booked and crazy for them but they made us feel right at home and were incredible! It was such a joy and the ladies working didnt pressure me at all but helped to guide me through what I wanted.
Was only there to try on a tux and pay for it. While she seemed to be the only lady working and there were several customers she was able to bounce between people and make sure everyone was taken care. I unfortunately did not catch her name.

Weddings by Design made my wedding planning process absolutely amazing and stress free. Not only did I find my dream dress but the consultants, manager and even the owner gave me attention fit for a queen. Every time, I came into the store they made me feel important and beautiful. The attention to detail is unparalleled to any other. My gorgeous Maggie Sottero dress was measured so perfectly the only alterations I needed was adding a bustle. I also purchased my bridesmaids gowns at this store and they were absolutely perfect. My maid of honor had a different style but this was not a problem and the consultants assisted me in picking out dresses that would flatter all my girls. Not only were my bridal party dresses purchased here but both my mother and mother-in-law found beautiful dresses as well. My mom was nervous about shopping for a dress but the ladies at this store made her feel comfortable and she actually enjoyed the process. At one of my many appointments I fell in love with a stunning headband. However, I procrastinated and didnt order early enough. The bridal manager worked with me and was able to get the headpiece of my dreams in time for my wedding.The service I received and the experience I had in doing business with Weddings by Design was completely professional and beyond enjoyable. I would recommend this store to anyone!

When I first went to look for my dress, I was treated very well. Sandy the head consultant was very nice and helped me with all of my needs. However, when I went to get alterations for my dress, I found the seamstress to be very rude. One of the first things she asked me was how much weight do you plan to lose? My answer was none, because I do not need to lose any weight. As a bride, that is not exactly the comment you want to hear as your wedding day approaches. As my wedding day got closer, I took my dad in to try on his tux the Thursday before my wedding. Come to find out, the complete wrong color vest was ordered, so my ties and vests were clashing colors. The Tux manager was extremely rude to us and acted like it was my fault the wrong color was written down. Although I loved my dress, save yourself the tears and money and find another place to shop for the dress of your dreams.
Great place! The owner Melissa is wonderful and has been there and talked to me the two times that I have been in. The day I found my dress I was nervous and unsure but they made me feel comfortable and were very attentive! I havent gotten alterations yet, but I have met with Jude and discussed and she is very helpful in explaining how things will work.
I have the opinion that they do a great job for the brides needs but are very disappointed in the tuxedo experience. Several did not fit and we made several trips to the supplier on the south side for corrections which made the wedding day quite stressful. I would recommend using someone who specializes in the guys and leave these folks to the bride.

I am/was an older bride. I went to all the usual bridal shops in town and did not find a dress that I liked. I went to WBD and found a dress that I loved, also found a bridesmaid dress for one daughter. The other found one in a different store. I agree with many of the reviews. They are nice until you place your order and have your money. Then they act like you are a nuisance.They are rude and ignore you when you go back for fittings or other issues. Even when I picked my dress up they acted like I was bothering them. I spent a great deal of money there and would never recommend this store to anyone.
Wedding By Design is by far the worst wedding shop that you can get your dresses. We recently got all our bridemaids dresses here. We paid $300 for the dress and two hours after the wedding began the straps of 75% of the girls dresses broke. After tying the dress straps up and went on with the wedding the front gathering ripped as well. Many of the girls contacted the store after the wedding to let them know what happened and to see if there was anything they would do for the $300 nightmare. The manager would not stand by the product and blamed us that we must have done something wrong. She wanted to investigate our dresses so we were to bring our dresses back to Iowa. (Some of the girls live out of State). I asked if we brought the dress in if we would be refunded money for the dress at all or for travel and she explained that she doubted she would do anything..... which she didnt.Also the Tuxedos were ordered here for the wedding party and arrived in the wrong color two days before the wedding. The tried to blame the bride for the wrong order, yet the bride had proof so the had to reorder everything......Please DO NOT GO here! You will spend sooo much money for poor products that the store wont stand by.
I had the best experience at Weddings By Design. They never made me feel rushed, they answered all of my questions, they allowed me to take as long as I wanted choosing different styles to try on, and were very honest. I felt like I was being treated like family. They were there to make me happy and never pressured me to buy right then and there. Thank you for the experience.
WARNING! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!We fell in love with a bridesmaid dress and bought all five. All five women were measured by an employee. We were told that the only type of alterations needed would be hemming and possibly extra fabric/padding to the bust line for Amanda (MOH).Dresses arrived and the women began making appointments. Three out of the five bridesmaids called the bride in a panic. The dresses were so tight they couldn’t breathe. They were worried about fainting during the wedding. The dresses are also so tight that they are no longer elegant. Our once flowing, soft, elegant dresses were gone and in their place we received dresses that make everyone look pregnant. Amanda’s experience is quoted below:When I went in to pick up my dress I tried it on and discovered it did not fit as the initial “test” dress did. I was advised by one of your employees that the dress would fit tighter and stretch out the longer it was worn, which after seeing the fabric and material I find hard to believe. I advised the employee I was super uncomfortable in the dress the she assured me this is how the dress was “supposed to fit” and that it was completely normal to need two people to zip these “types” of dresses up due to the style and clasp in the back. I was later advised by Melissa that is in fact is NOT normal and that the dress shouldn’t require two people to zip and clasp it.Amanda has had the most appalling experience. She has been in Weddings by Design a few times to try to fix the problem. Each time she has walked out of the store on the brink of tears. The employees at your store have callously laughed and said “well that doesn’t fit you at all”, insinuated that her body is not the same as it was in April, and have overall not listened to what she, the customer, thinks is best. They told her that the dress would have to be completely let out and resewn back in. They would “start her an alterations tab”. She was initially quoted $100 to just take the different seams out of the dress and allow the seamstress to re size the dress to fit her body. Then it was advised that WBD would start a “running tab” due to additional fees and alterations costs needing to be added to ensure it fit properly, as she was having to basically “re-create” the dress. It seems per the emails that were sent that no matter what kind of dress we would have ordered whether it be a size 10 or a size 12 MAJOR alterations would have had to take place to ensure the dress fit properly. This is obviously very confusing since the dress the bridesmaids initially tried on fit perfect and the only type of alteration that would have been absolutely necessary is to have the dress hemmed which would have been a much more affordable cost. At this point we don’t even know if Amanda should be ordering a size 12 or if the size 10 that we initially ordered would be appropriate due to all the different kinds of feedback/information we have been given by not only the owner but the employees in the store. This has caused a lot of stress on the bride and bridesmaids. Amanda describes the emotional aspect below:In addition I feel all of the blame has been directed at my body “changing” which has been addressed not only in person but several emails. I can assure you my “body” is not the problem as it hasn’t changed since my initial apt in April. This whole experience has left me feeling embarrassed, insecure, and ashamed. None of these emotions are emotions a bride or her bridal party should EVER have to feel during these types of interactions and appointments. Body shaming or “body blaming” is not something I feel like should be tolerated in this line of work where the only sole responsibility you should have is making your clients feel beautiful and amazing.In conclusion, Weddings by Design messed up 3 out of our 5 dresses, refused to take any accountability, and barely got our dresses ready in time for the wedding. The owner is abusive and argumentative. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE! RUN FAR FAR AWAY!
HORRIBLE PLACE. Unprofessional, amateurs, cheap. All of our dresses were 4 sizes too big, which means we paid a TON in alterations (more than what the actual dress even cost). We tried to get refunded, but the Manager refused to talk to us. No one knows what theyre doing. AVOID THIS PLACE.

I had a absolute WONDERFUL, memorable experience here! When I made my appointment I really had no intentions on buying something that day, and to be honest I didnt! I did however fall in love with the dress that I would purchase a week later. I showed up like any typical bride, I had my pictures, the must haves and the absolute nos! Not only did Sandy show me exactly what I wanted, but she showed me something outside my box, and that is the dress I ended up falling in love with!! I loved how I didnt feel pressured to buy right then, but I felt like I had an open invitation to come back when I was ready. When I was ready, I was able to set up monthly payment plans for less than $100/month!It doesnt stop there, I was so excited about my dress I almost routinely stopped and tried my dress on every other week! I couldnt help it! I brought numerous family members, and friends, and every time the ladies never acted like I was bothering them or as if they were tired of seeing me! ;)We also purchased our tuxes from the Tux Shop, and had nothing but great help from Robin! She let us play dress up with mannequin until we figured out exactly what we wanted. When the tuxs came in we had no major issues and all of the guys looked great! Plus since I bought my dress there, we got a deal!! :)If your looking for a great experience this is the place to go! :)
I purchased my dress at another bridal store, took it to Jordan Creek for alterations and that is when the nightmare began. They did a horrible job. The bottom of my dress was not even cut evenly, the seam under my right arm had the inside of the dress sticking out, they put in One bustle. WHAT?? the dress dragged on the floor on both sides. Needless to say, I was in tears as my wedding was 2 weeks away. I contacted Weddings By Design and asked about an alternation fix. They referred me to Jude Dickenson. I met with her 2 days later and she spent more time with me, explaining everything she would be doing, the prices, etc. I felt relived, but still wanted to see my dress fix me like a glove. Less than a week later, I was at Judes and my dress was like it was made exactly for me. There wasnt a single thread out of place, it fit perfect in all the right places. I cried, I was so happy. The bustle was perfect, the seams looked like they has never even been touched, the bodice fit so perfect.. I just was to thank Weddings By Design and Jude Dickenson for all the help they gave me. Now I just wish I would have bought my dress at Weddings By Design, their service was over the top, excellent. They made my wedding perfect!!

Manager and Owner of Weddings By Design, Melissa - is antagonistic - combative! I am appalled at the manner in which she spoke to me. My mother and I stopped by the store to follow up from a request that I had made over the phone a few days back. The request was to expedite the standard rush for bridesmaid dresses made by Alfred Angelo. Melissa had told me over the phone during my initial request that the dresses would not arrive until March 18th - a day before my wedding, with the standard rush fee. My next question to Melissa was whether or not an expedited rush was possible if I was willing to pay more of a rush charge. Melissa said that she would need the measurements for the dresses, but that she would check with the mfg dept to see if this kind of rush was possible.I called the following day and had to re-explain everything to a stylist because there was no information in the system about my request that I had made with Melissa. After being placed on hold, I was told that customer service requires 24-48hrs to respond to email requests and that there was nothing more they could do.The next day (day 3) I called again to follow up and yet again had to re-explain everything. No one seemed to know about my rush inquiry and there was nothing in the system. I was again told that customer service has up to 48 hours to respond and that there is nothing more that can be done until we hear back from them. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.So now, my final day of attempting to work with Weddings By Design - my mother and I walked into the store around 11:45am and greeted by Robin and Madison. They were unable to help me as they had no notes of my request, nothing in the system, and nothing on Melissas desk. Melissa was called and notified that I was in the store following up on my request. Melissa asked to speak with me, and told me she was on her way in and to go ahead and give Robin and Madison the measurements and colors. Robin and Madison were helpful and polite while taking down my order - I had just told them how happy and excited I was when Melissa entered the store. Melissa was straight faced and sadly - snide towards me. She told me that the soonest my dresses could arrive was the 11th of March, and that it would hardly be worth my time since I would have to pay so much in shipping and fees to get my dresses ready in time. I really wanted the dresses, and I told her that was okay to me. She then became very combative - literally arguing AT me - and accused me being at fault because I hadnt given her the measurements sooner. (This made absolutely no sense to me as I had been waiting for her to get back to me on my request to expedite the standard rush). I tried to defuse her temper by asking her what she was trying to say or do by making the accusations. I told her that I didnt think this to be something to argue about, and I asked her to stop. My mother even tried to deescalate Melissas attack by reassuring her that everything had been going well with Robin and Madison, and that we just wanted to continue with the order. Melissa proceeded to raise her voice at my mother and continued with her onslaught. My heart was beating so fast, I was so upset that I just said, Okay, we are done here! and told my mother we were not doing business here. Melissa badgered me the whole way out the door.It was terrible, I felt awful. I couldnt believe I had just been treated like that.If you didnt want to work with me, Melissa or if you were unable to grant my request you should have just told me. Instead, you treated me so badly that you knew I would end up walking out and giving up. It was shameful. I am beyond disgusted.UPDATE*** 2 days after posting this, Melissa replies below and accuses me of posting inaccurate information. I assure all readers, I would never falsify information regarding a small business or any entity. This is just proof that she insults her customer & is making a desperate attempt to redeem her inappropriate and unprofessional behavior. I assure you.

I went in to look at Mother of the Bride dresses. The woman working acted like I disrupted her day. I will not be going back.
First off let me say I adored my dress. This has everything to do withthe designer (ella) and not the store. I wouldn’t recommend them to myworst enemy, if I had one. Their lack of professionalism combined witha lack of business ethics and integrity make what should be one if themost special days in life, a nightmare. I have never been treated sopoorly by a business. I can shorten my awful experiences into aparagraph that will fit here but first I encourage you to not justtake my word for it. Ask around as I have discovered by word of mouthand witnessing the same thing happens to other brides that happened tome while I was in the store. look them up through the better businessbureaus website. They have multiple complaints some of which werenever resolved to customer satisfaction. Look at Google reviews (whichare quite low). Don’t trust their facebook page as by experience Iknow they immediately delete any post that is completely positive.Their unprofessional and unethical business tactics cost me over $500to fix. After they have convinced you to buy their dresses (that arevery expensive) they argue with you about the size saying they are theexperts. When your dress won’t stay up they sing a much differentsong. They do have some nice consultants but the owner and managersare awful to deal with and I am a mental health therapist who dealswith assisting people to manage these types of behaviors on a dailybasis. Asking for a dress that fits, your voice to be heard andrespected and receiving a courteous response is not too much to askfor from a business esp when I spent $2000 on the dress plus overanother $500 for accessories. Their response to my better businessbureau complaint is to call me demeaning names saying that I am lying.Other stores sell the same brands, keep that experience special toyou. I hope this review helps prevents this happening for others asextra (large) costs are very stressful in planning a wedding.
Worst shop in Central Iowa! I went with my niece and it by far the worst experience we have ever had. They were extremely rude, dresses were a diaster - old and very poor shape. Several of the employees were very unprofessional and talked very poorly about other shops during the appt. Im not sure why anyone would want to shop here. I understand from friends their alterations are twice the cost of other shops and the seamstress is very rude. Not friendly and not worth the time!!! Shop any place else but dont waste your time here!

I am writing this review in response to the unprofessional treatment displayed by Weddings by Design. In December, my daughter and I purchased a bridal gown from this shop. The owner, Melissa informed me that the dress would arrive before/during spring break. I communicated with her that the bride lives in a different state and could we arrange to have the first fitting during this same week while she was in Des Moines. Melissa told me that that will be fine and that the shop would contact me when the gown arrived. During the week of spring break, my daughter and I visited the shop to look at their selection of tuxedos. Melissa was out of town, and when I asked the clerk if the bridal gown had arrived, she responded, “Yes, it had arrived last week!” I expressed my disappointment that the store had not notified us, but nonetheless, I was relieved knowing that at least my daughter would have her first fitting.The alterations woman is an independent contractor with the shop and she stated she was not notified that my daughter would be having a fitting during spring break and/or when her gown arrived at the shop. She added that her schedule was full for the week and my daughter would need to reschedule. I told her that the bride was not returning to Des Moines until May or one month prior to the ceremony. She stated that was too long to wait for a first fitting and she should return to Des Moines as soon as possible. I was floored that there was no communication between the shop and alterations. Furthermore, I found out later that the shop had more than one person performing alternations, but I was never given the option of another seamstress.I went home upset that I had to now fly my daughter back to Des Moines to have a fitting. Airline tickets into Des Moines are expensive, but we did not have a choice and purchased a ticket for her to fly back to Des Moines in April.The next week my spouse and I met with Melissa to express our displeasure in having to purchase an airline ticket for my daughter. We felt that the shop should compensate us for having to purchase this airline ticket due to the lack of communication between the shop and alternations. We asked that the shop pay for the flower girl dresses as a fair compensation.You can imagine our shock when Melissa told us that the shop would have completed the fitting had we reacted appropriately. When we questioned her with what she meant by “reacted appropriately,” she stated that because we didn’t seem angry or upset, that we must not have been that concerned with having the fitting. In other words, had we created a scene, the fitting would have taken place. Furthermore, Melissa then added that a first fitting one-month before the wedding in May wasn’t an issue. She had flip-flopped her position from when we had purchased the dress stating the first fitting should occur when the dress arrives at the shop in March.Melissa then began to plead ignorance stating she really didn’t know anything about the miscommunication with alternations and in fact this issue was with the seamstress. She took no ownership in the situation. As a business owner, she should have considered this is a customer service issue, and that she should do what she can to please the customer.We ended up taking the dress to another seamstress for the alterations. In addition, we did not purchase the tuxedos and flower girl dresses from this shop. We were not about to give any additional revenue to this business knowing since we were treated so unfairly and more importantly unprofessionally. In past reviews Melissa has stated that the customer is always right. However, she has proven this statement to be most incredulous and I would not recommend doing business with this store.Sarah & Jeff Heltman
Wow. Horrible. First, they didnt even order my usher a tuxedo! He was one of the first to get measured! They forgot to order it, then tried to blame it on him being on another page. That is not my fault! Then they took pieces of tuxedos off of the displays and pieced one together... the coat draped down past his knuckles, the pants were way baggy. I ordered a tuxedo from the book they had, i said i wanted it just like that but in my colors. Apparently they didnt think i wanted the pocket squares, the manager told me, after the fact, that they cost extra so they didnt order them... What? Did they think i was poor and could afford to rent a pocket square?! The tuxedo shirt was the wrong one, i wanted the exposed collar. They close at 5pm on friday, which is the last day they can get any issues fixed... I dont know about most people in the world, but I work until 5 on friday... seems pretty normal for people to work until 5... so why would you leave at 5 on the day before the weekend, when most people who get tuxedos get them for the weekend?!?! On top of it all... when i wrote to the manager to complain, her apology email felt more like an In your face email. Sent a copy of the contract with areas highlighted. There is an extra charge for the squares... I SAID I WANTED MY TUX TO LOOK LIKE THE PICTURE! I COULD GIVE A CRAP LESS IF IT COSTS A FEW EXTRA DOLLARS! Your sales people are either inexperienced, bad at their job, or just dont give a crap! I think they should just get out of the Tuxedo business as they obviously dont have a clue!
