The owner of Modern Liquors & his staff are exceptional! I was looking for a particular scotch, and could only find a few bottles here at Modern Liquor, and at a really reasonable price. Since I live very far from D.C., I ordered online, and called the store to ask when they would ship my order. They were amazing! So helpful, so reliable, & so honest - they even shipped all the bottles together and saved me money on the shipping cost. I will always shop at Modern Liquor from now on. Wonderful!

Selection is small & prices are high. But that’s not the reason for the 1-star. The people who run aggressively push options on you to try tj sell more. And twice they’ve checked me out and jacked up the prices. I only caught it the second time. Avoid at all costs!

Rarely do you find a liquor store where the staff is as knowledgeable as this. I’ve bought from here many times and found the staff to be friendly and informed. Above all else, they have everything you would need and more!

I lived in a Shaw for a long time and this place was one of my favorites. They often have tastings on the weekends. Not necessarily the cheapest place to buy but super friendly staff and good selection overall. Check out their delivery app Liqour Express which has no fees unlike drizzly.

Good selection, but not nearly good enough to justify the prices they are charging. Easily 30% higher for the same bottles than anywhere else in town. Hard to support a local store with such blatant price gouging.

Ordered a bottle of Vida mezcal on Drizly last night and received a bottle of Crema de Mezcal instead. One is a ubiquitous, well-reviewed, staff pick liquor and the other is a mezcal/agave syrup blend with the thick, sweet profile of a liqueur. When I called about the mix-up I was told that I was given the fancier bottle because Vida was out of stock. I was also told that the bottle I received is a more desirable single village mezcal while the Vida is a blend, when in reality the opposite is true. I wish Id been consulted, as the two products are verrrrry different and Im not a fan of the sweet crema de mezcal I received. Was not offered store credit or even a partial refund. I realize its a crazy time but intentionally swapping one bottle for another *without calling* is not good. Wont be shopping here in the future.

Best selection of unique/rare liquor in the area. The price is higher because of this, but they have things you wont find anywhere else without driving hours.

They have a good selection of whiskey/bourbon, a decent selection of wine, and a good selection of beer and other drinks (ciders, etc.). Theyre fairly expensive compared to other DC liquor stores, and I almost always opt for the boutique wine store near my house over them. As nice as they are - and I generally appreciate their service - they have little knowledge about wines. Still, with their location and selection, I find myself there often enough to rate them at least at 4 stars.

These dudes are overpricing beer. $14.29 for DC Brau?! Steer clear. You can buy your favorite beverage around the the corner for much less. Only go here for ultra rare items such as Youngs Special London Ale or Double Chocolate stout.

Not a great selection, but they have most of the regular go-to bottles. They were stocking shelves while I was there, which was pretty frustrating to walk around. They did not have any of the bottles I was looking for, but I managed to find something that worked.
