While the renamed store still hosts TheBikeHouse on the edge of the parking lot and tools inside, not much else has changed, afaict, still kind of unpaid day laborers in relation to a for profit store. When at Qualia it was coffee/light foods and taking over the back yard. This tools, supplies and learning some basic mechanics. How to change a flat. How a ratchet works. On up through what can be done with bikes... At times I wish TBH would takeover a foreclosed property and have a home... Until then I guess buy cold sweet liquids while baking to death in the heat without bathroom nor filtered cold water access. FWIW I was at the (original) opening with council member(s), food truck, etc. District HW (w 🚲), old Capital Hill Fragers that burned, saw deceased mayor there, etc.

The first time I came to this location, I received excellent help in finding the right size nail for a small drawer. But today, despite the store not being very busy, no one offered much help in me trying to decide on plants or planters. Fine, I can do it myself. But then the plastic plate rang up for over twice the actual price. And none of the plastic planters have any prices, so I ended up returning everything and leaving with only time wasted - if I cant trust the register to ring up one item properly (aka theft) then I think the other prices might be wrong (or just way overpriced for some cheap plastic planters).

Great neighborhood store with everything you need. Randall in the paint section was very knowledgeable and helpful. He helped me figure out the best products for the job and gave good recommendations as well.

I brought in a small, unlabeled can of paint after moving into a new place for a paint match and Randall was the best! After the first batch came out a bit darker, Randall worked with me to get it closer to what I wanted and the color was a perfect match when it went on my walls! Will definitely come back for all of my painting needs!

I usually love Ace and other local hardware stores. But the staff are not nearly as knowledgeable or helpful as at other small hardware stores. That’s a real shame. Most people come in for a specific need and the staff doesn’t put in an effort to meet that need. Bummer. Will I continue coming to this store? Yes, because it’s in the neighborhood. Do I wish they would do a better job? Yes. Here’s hoping!

For a community hardware store the amount of items in the many fields of construction is amazing.The cost per item are a few pennies more but the convenience more that makes up for that.

Keep a close eye on your returns and exchanges at this store. Somehow a staff member at this ace tried to convince me that a $9 light bulb was an even exchange for a lightbulb I paid $13 for the day before (i had the receipt), they said something about store policy lol. I didnt have time to fight over $4, so I went through with it, but he also didnt offer to give me a receipt for the exchange until I asked for it. Later I saw the $9 item on the exchange receipt was not a lightbulb.

I visited in search of houseplants and was not disappointed. The prices were reasonable and there was a nice range of well kept indoor and outdoor plants as well as care supplies. I also enjoyed the variety of planters they had available. I absolutely recommend and will definitely return!

I recently bought a home, and I have had several miscellaneous issues ranging from plumbing, construction, and landscaping that I have had to attend to. Every time I plan to begin a new project, I start at Annies Ace Hardware.This store offers quality products at a price that is competitive to the large warehouse hardware stores, but the staff are what really make the difference. The staff are not only extremely helpful but also very knowledgeable when providing suggestions on how to tackle a project. I have stopped in close to a dozen times in the past year, typically after work, and whenever I have a question, someone is there to provide an informed answer.I went in looking for a plumbing snake, expecting to buy the cheap disposable plastic snakes (~$3/ea.), but the plumbing expert on staff suggested a more durable and stable metal one that was less likely to fracture while in the piping that cost $12. It works great, and I have already used it enough times to cover the cost of the disposal ones with many more uses to come.I needed mulch and topsoil to complete some landscaping projects I had. The options for both the mulch and top soil were greater than I had anticipated. Once I made my selections on the type and amount of each, an attendant offered to help me load the bags into my car, and he actually had the whole load packed up by the time I was done with the cashier.I asked about the quality of some drywall anchors that I was considering purchasing to hang a towel rack in my bathroom. One of the staff assured me that the anchors I was considering worked great as long as I was screwing them into only dry wall. He did not pressure me into buying anything I did not need, but he made sure my project was completed correctly.Even for things such as making a copy of keys or refilling my propane tank for the grill, Annies staff are there to make my trip as quick and painless as possible. I recommend this store to all my friends and neighbors for any home projects they are thinking about starting.

I am a 63 year old women who bought 8 (40 pound) bags of Top Soil on a rainy day and was told that no one could help me load the bags into my car. I live in Petworth and make every effort to support community business. Other hardware stores driving distance would have provided assistance. My first response to poor service from our community store.

On 7 3 2020 I approached the Ace Hardware Store 2 minutes before closing time. Upon entering the property the sales and management team had already secure and lock the doors at that time whats a emergency that was well needed I asked a store employee. Could he assist me it was an emergency he then stated no the store is closed once Ive been informed him of who it was my 95 year old grandmother his heart opened up his mind opened up he making sure 95 year old grandmother had her part to complete the job that I need it thank you so much. There are still some real nice gentleman and ladies out here Miss Annie keep up the good work

Good neighborhood hardware store. It is locally owned, which is nice. They have a good range of supplies, available Propane, and are working hard to keep customers safe from corona-virus. They have a lot of drill bits, and they carry Benjamin Mohr, Valspar, Clark and Kensington paints, that they mix on site. Parking lot doesnt have the best arrangement, but it is hard to blame them for that.

This store is a good community member. They recognized people need protest supplies and ordered goggles and ear plugs this week, in addition to stocking masks, cleaning supplies, and sanitizer for all our COVID needs. The employees are engaged and helpful (shout out to Jose!) and after their help getting protest supplies, Im even more dedicated to shopping here.

I try to support local businesses but the customer service here has slipped significantly over the past 4 months. For example, when I have called to ask about product information, the staff is not knowledgeable and when I asked for more information, staff has hung up on me to end the call. Sure, this can happen once accidentally, but when it happens several times in one day, you have to acknowledge unprofessional conduct.

As soon as walked in to the store I was welcomed with a warm greeting.....I ordered furniture online and unfortunately there was a missing bolt. I’m so glad I came here I would not have known how to search for what I needed if I was thrown into an aisle of nuts and bolts at Home Depot. This really is a neighborhood hardware shop.

Annies Ace seems to be a pretty convenient and reliable hardware store for the neighborhood! When I visited the store felt a bit disorganized and hard to maneuver because of errant ladders and boxes in the way, and many of the houseplants they were selling looked to be on their way out. But, its in a great location and they have dedicated parking which make it somewhere Im sure Ill return.

Plus, every time I get a sighting of Annie, Im reminded of how much I love mom&pop businesses (or mom&mom or pop&pop etc, u get the idea) & hate corporations. Solid hardware store with a great range of products and helpful staff. Nice variety of small houseplants and potting materials as well as a comprehensive plumbing section. Other sections like electrical looked good too but I didnt need anything from there. Much more convenient than Lowes or Home Depot if you live near by and dont need something particularly odd or large; and they have parking!

Stopped over here 5 minutes before closing on a Sunday - a run of bad luck had me looking for something to stop my transmission from gushing fluid. Long story short, I left the city without it - all thanks to the good will of the staff and proprietor(s?), it hasnt been impounded. Gave me time to arrange someone to haul it back home.Also, they have a lot of stuff crammed into a compact footprint - their epoxy selection is on point, and im amazed their prices are so fair given the area.Thank you Annies, I owe you one=]

We adore Anne, and her hardware store. She and her staff are all friendly and keen to be helpful; even offering to special order things, and asking lots of questions about our home repairs / remodels to see if there are items we may need in future. Great seasonal plants, very neighborly, overall a wonderful place. Always a good experience. My toddler even loves to go visit Annie store.

Its not like it used to be when Annie owned it. The outside area where they keep soil, mulch, etc is very unorganised. Not as many staffers to help customers.

My go-to place for all my home needs. Everything from lock sets, house paint (and paint recycling!), garden shears, window screens, grill supplies, and dish soap. They even do lawnmower repair. Staff is always friendly and extremely helpful. I bring my dog, she gets treats, Im happy. Id rather spend a little bit more here than buying something online. Annies is a place I want to support and keep in the neighborhood.

Fir a neighborhood hardware store, it pretty good. A wide range of products. I go there sometimes when I need something quick. Its local to me rather than going to Home Depot for one small thing. Its a matter of convenience, so they can be a bit pricey. But, sometimes they have that one thing you need and home Depot doesnt have.

The employees are ALWAYS very helpful here and this neighborhood spot almost always has exactly what Im looking for. Even Annie herself was on the floor today asking if I needed help. I checked all 5 things off my list and found a few other special surprises for visiting grandsons!

Awesome place. Although I do like the brand ACE. I would love to see home depot buy ACE and rebrand it Home Depot Express as long as they keep the same level of service. Annies ace has great service and someone is always there to help if you if you need it. Extremely Well Organized. If youve every tried to buy PVC connector parts at the Home Depot, youll be pleasantly surprised to find how every part at Annies is in the correct bin, and *none* of the bins are empty. Great Customer Service. SO GLAD we have a great alternative to the Home Depot!!!!

I always have a great experience when I visit the neighborhood hardware store. The staff is friendly and they tend to have whatever item(s) Im looking for. They will even do same day delivery on certain items.The store is clean and organized and there is sufficient parking in front of the store and on the street.

Friendly people. Helpful service people. The complete and total opposite of Home Depot - instead of having to look for 20 minutes for someone to help me, at Annies the staff are actually looking for me and come up to offer assistance! Such a breath of fresh air!

UPDATE: had to return. Usually at any Ace I’ve been to to exchange propane, I have popped in to let someone know I was there with and exchange. Upon entering I was yelled at by two employees from across the store...not with “Excuse me or Please” leave that outside. Rather both employees just yelled “Hey! You need to leave that outside, leave that outside.So no, even under new management and ownership, you need to work on customer service.What an awful customer service experience from checkout to management. I’ve never had such rude and dismissive people create problems rather than solutions at an Ace. Over 30 years at another local store in another state, I was excited to find my local Ace. I won’t be back if it can be helped.

Annies is a great neighborhood Hardware store with a friendly and knowledgeable staff that are always eager to help. Annie has always been a friendly face and even helped in the efforts to find out dog that escaped the yard one day. (He was found!) She and her team go the extra mile to ensure all your needs are met and that you leave feeling good about your visit. Highly reccomend this place over Home Depot if you can.

I just came back from a short trip to get some potting soil and seeds, nothing extravagant. I spoke with Annie on the phone before I went and at the store. She and her staff are helpful, knowledgeable, and very personable. Annie gave me some money saving tips and directed me away from a more expensive item to a cheaper option that she thought would work better with what I was planting. The garden center space seems limited but since it is March they didnt have much out so I cant comment on the selection.The experience was so good that I am looking for reasons to return. Glad to have such a wonderful store only a few blocks away.
