I had a great experience with the knowledgeable Mark! I gave him some price points and food pairings, and he selected a variety of interesting wines for me for $12-20. He also spent time teaching me about port even after I told him I was not planning to buy but wanted to learn more. I’ll be looking for him when it’s time to resupply. The shop has an awesome variety!

Well stocked, clean and staff on hand to help, but not intrude. Sales are frequent, so keep your eyes peeled. Selection, service + price means this is a quality shopping experience

Great selection of wines and spirits. Great prices for Liquor, especially large bottles and a great place to stock up if you live in VA or MD. I hear the deli meets, cheeses, and prepared food are excellent, but havent tried myself. Only knock is lack of available parking and atmosphere (looks dated and extremely crowded, which makes navigating without running into others difficult).Could use a refresh.

Amazing selection of wine and spirits with a decent selection of beers. What sets Calvert apart are three things: 1. The cheeserie and staff who will let you taste cheeses and make great recommendations 2. The incredibly friendly cashiers who I adore 3. The sale prices on liquor (you can regularly find awesome deals on spirits). If there is one shortcoming its that occasionally I feel the staff are pushing certain wines, I say this bc on numerous instances Ive had friends describe totally different preferences or desires in a wine and end up being recommended the same bottle.

This afternoon I went to Calvert Woodley to get cheese and other goodies. As I entered the store, I realized that I had forgotten my mask in the car. I looked around and there were other customers not wearing masks. We were being helped by a nice gentleman when we heard someone yelling from the door: “Ms, no mask, no service!!!” I asked my friend for the car key and went and got my mask. I’m only writing this review to point out that this man, who seems to be the manager, is rude and disrespectful. I wasn’t the only person not wearing a mask, but he chose to single me out. Not only did he single me out, but he literally yelled at me in front of everyone. I don’t have a problem following the rules. I understand this is a privately owned business and they can refuse service. What I have a problem with is this man yelling at me for no reason. Calvert Woodley has a great reputation and the other employees in the store were extremely helpful and polite, which is why I chose to still purchase what I went there for. However, I have read other complaints about this man. He needs to be taught how to treat people with respect.

Best place and best people ever. My Dad went here 40 plus years ago and now I do. Fresh meats and beautiful cheeses. Fine wines and great selection of liquor and they carry 150 proof for those who make tinctures or their own liquer. Absolutely love this place and highly recommend them!

Really one of the great Washington institutions. The deli counter is the closest you’ll get to Zabar’s or Russ & Daughter’s in NW DC.

Very good (but not great) selection of craft beer and a very good selection of spirts. Only complaint (albeit minor) is the layout of the store can make it feel crowded on busy days. Nonetheless, I frequently check it out in hopes of coming across some of the harder to find bourbons.

I am a long time Calvert Woodley customer for wine. Their broad selection along with very good prices make them my #1 choice. I particularly like the ability to order on the web site and pick up the -repacked order at the store. I did the curbside pick up twice in recent weeks and it worked great.

Calvert Woodley took no chances--they shut down, paid employees, and lost money until they could develop a process that would keep everybody safe in the pandemic. A zillion other businesses put money first; C-W put people first. Theyre also extremely generous to customers if adjustments are needed, and they are far better stocked and better priced than the competition. They process orders immediately and their contact-free pickup is easy, safe, and very fast. Cant beat Calvert-Woodley on any measure.

I have been going to CW for years, as it has he best variety, prices, and advice of any wine store in the DC area. Recently, feeling lazy and unable to shop inside and ask questions anyhow, I ordered online and had the shipment delivered. On time, careful handled, and polite service. My husband and I shopped at Calvert Woodley for many years when my mom lived in the area. We have since moved away from DC but were back in town visiting relatives. I always love to stop here and check out the selection of Italian wines. We found a nice variety of mid-priced wines, some new to us, some new varietals of familiar vintners. The staff is always friendly and helpful, the store has a cozy, neighborhood feel. A perfect place to make a stop for wine, delicious cheese, gourmet crackers and a freshly baked baguette. Great store -- wish we had a similar store in our new location!

This is a fun place to shop for wine (and more). They are well staffed and knowledgeable, making it easy to obtain what you want. Having the fromagerie/cheeserie & deli right there is inspiration for an enjoyable time that evening with one of those bottles in your cart. With a good selection of spirits and imported gourmet items for the pantry, you can check off a lot from your list with a short visit to CW. Parking is provided and theres always someone available to get those cases of wine into your car for you. Wine & spirits shopping as it should be!

Love the deli, not the cheapest, but a good selection of quality products. liquor can run 20 to 60% below the Virginia ABC. Dont forget though, there is 8% sales tax in the district. Still, its enough to make me drive 45 minutes from Virginia to spend my money here.

On Sunday morning, November 1, 2020 I had an interaction with the store manager who first tired to overcharge me for 10 bottles of champagne, despite my showing him the price listed in the Post advertisement, and then said that I had the wrong bottle. He was rude and unaware of the prices of the merchandise. He did not have the courtesy to apologize when he realized his error. As a long-time customer of Calvert Woodley I am dismayed and disappointed at his behavior.

Favorite place in the Washington DC area for champagne. Always has a good stock and ones that are difficult to get. People are always nice. Its a tradition to go around Thanksgiving and Christmas to stock up for the holidays.

If you want Great service from real people with the best cheese and a serious wine and liquor collection - Decentbbeer collection - then you came to the right spot. You can find something for a fair price. The world needs more of these type of establishments.

My wife and I found Calvert Woodley a bit late in our time in D.C., which we both felt was regrettable. The shop is a D.C. gem, not far from the zoo. Its worth a visit for its selection of wines and spirits at prices that beat out most in town. One of the top stores in DC. Ben Gilibertis recommendations are hidden gems - he has a great eye for deals - but they also have a pretty comprehensive selection. Also, dont sleep on the deli.

Great variety of all types of beers, wines, and liquors. Prices aren’t bad! The service here is also great. Everybody is super friendly and ready to help when asked. Also, they have some coupons on the back of Giant and Safeway receipts, so you can save a buck here and there.

When it comes to purchasing wine, cheese, cold cuts, beer and other libations, my choice has been Calvert Woodley for as long as I can remember. I always end up with a great wine at a great price...all I need to do is talk to a CW expert and the rest is history. I do not live close by anymore, but that is irrelevant as it is worth the trip. Their cheese selection is second to none, the cold cuts are outstanding...I really cant say enough.

I love the place. I dont drink, but have parties where wine is served. They are a great help. I mainly go for the fresh coffee beans, baguettes, and deli. On days I plan on visiting the zoo, Ill start my trip at CW and grab chicken salad on a crisont and crisps.
