I was in a bind and needed my online order immediately. The HU Bookstore staff - Kirk, Armani and Alex went above and beyond to make sure I had my items. It was a special occasion and celebration for a friend so their thoughtfulness and patience while going the extra mile meant a lot. I really enjoy the Barnes and Nobles Howard University Bookstore. It had such a diverse selection of books to choose from you could get lost there forever. Its a very chilled and laid-back environment they have a Starbucks adjacent to the bookstore but I didnt patronize that job I really was more observant of all of these beautiful books while I was visiting in town for work. The only downside is that the store closes at 5 and if youre an avid book lover you may need to find another Library or get there earlier

Its a Howard University theme Barnes and Noble, had great appearl to show that Howard spirit, well organized, you can tell that the staff takes pride in how they operate. Great selection of books including an African-American section with interesting knowledge on the culture and history. OUTSTANDING!

Cool store, although there are more merch than books.

Wide selection of Howard apparel and paraphernalia. Clothes and knick knacks are on the 1st floor. Books (fiction, non fiction and academic) and school/office supplies are on the second floor. They have intermittent sales but I think the prices are on the high side for college kids to afford. (I say that having never been to another schools bookstore to compare prices.) T-shirts start at $15. Most hackers start at $35. All clothes are quality name brand, mostly Champion.

My cousins from out of state wanted to purchase some Howard gear as a souvenirs; but we had to use the restroom first. We asked the staff but they told us we would have to leave to do so. So, I planned to shop fast. I guess the staff assumed we would leave and not shop, so one of the male staff member (young man with a short cut) followed us around the store. I guess he assumed we were going to steal. We went upstairs to look at the books, and discovered that the restroom was open and available. So, we ended up staying a little longer. However, the male staff member continued to pop up and stand around where ever we were.There was one staff member (a young woman with crimson hair) who was nice to us, and didnt treat us like street rats who had wandered in off the street for the restroom. She was very helpful, and I truly appreciated her assistance.

Strangely merged with Starbucks. Coffee shop is popular with students, seating is limited. Adjact book shop has lots of student texts, and non related books, general interest books etc. There is a second floor access by stairs or if you ask there is an elevator. Often there are book sales, Ive bought a lot of interesting books for good prices. More paperbacks are available near check outs. I go to meet a friend have a coffee and then move in B&N to browse. There are spaces if you look where you can have a makeshift seat and browse more deeply.

I graduated from Howard in the 1970s, then went on to graduate school some place else. Since graduation Ive self-published a number of books. It would be nice to have a special section in Howard Universitys book store where its graduates could have their books posted. Every quarter Howard proudly shows published books by its alumni in the Howard magazine. Even at Harvard, Yale, and other Ivy league schools, they have a section reserved for its alumni that have published. It would be nice if Howard did also. J. A. Rollins

Since Lavonda has been Manager this Starbucks is over the top! She is always smiling and laughing! I actually look forward to getting off work to chill here and have a late night Dark Roast Pour over 😆 She runs a tight ship too. That place is spotless when I get there around 6pm. Barnes and Nobles is great for all the awesome Howard nalia, especially when you catch the 50% off sales. I just found the upstairs book selection near the couches! I can stay here for hours and hours! Dont like not being able to use my Barnes and Nobles member discount though😟

Awesome place to be. The author and main character of, Hair Like Mine was there. It was crowed but not uncomfortable. It was Homecoming weekend. #FORWARD

The best selection of book titles I have seen in a book store.Frederick Douglas, Ida B. Wells, WEB Dubois. Not the stuff you are going to find at your local Barnes and Noble

Not bad. Sometimes the sale section pops. Can be kinda costly but its a school bookstore...Parking can add up. Overall, you have a variety of priceable items!

Nice selection of general Howard stuff, unfortunately nothing really for the professional schools, like decals and clothes. Staff is a hit or miss, half the time they are friendly, the other half they are rude and mean.

Oh wow very expensive. As all college book stores are, but still. This is an important university so their gear is in demand and it shows. I would look for some off campus option.

My daughter loved the University. Great tour guide and information session. Answered a lot of questions and concerns about going to a school in the heart of DC.

Employees here wont look up any book to see if they have it in stock. They block off most of the books so you cant look at them yourself. Its mainly Howard University branded clothing and branded school supplies. Dont waste your time here like I did. Theyre a book store in name only, and the employees will be extremely rude both when youre browsing and when youre trying to ask them for help.

I placed an online order on April 29th, on May 5th, I sent an email to follow up, just to find out my order was canceled, ummmmm when? I was not notified, nothing is worse than POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! Ill shop elsewhere in the future 🙃

It’s a school bookstore connected to a Starbucks. They are loaded with Howard University Merchandise and Bison Pride! Bonus is they sell merchandise for the Black Greek Letter Fraternity and Sororities so it’s a great place to pick up gifts.

It was actually the Starbucks and the service was not up to par. I will not be visiting this Starbucks again any time soon. The barista only filled my mocha 3/4 full and didnt put the Whipped Cream like I asked, and when I asked that he correct the drinks he basically ignored me. I definitely did not get my moneys worth. Some of the worse service l have ever received at a Starbucks.

Everything you need

I ordered three items online, and then a day later got an email telling me my order had been canceled because all three items were out of stock. If they didnt have the items, I shouldnt have been allowed to order them online. The man who looked up my order said two of the items would be returning, but that rather than ask me if I wanted to wait for the item to be restocked, theyd simply canceled my order. If I wanted the items again, Id have to find them online and then order them again, but of course that order would be canceled again because the items arent in stock. This is the crappiest website and customer service ever. DONT ORDER ANYTHING from this store.

HU is the birthplace of a preponderance of black greek letter organizations...specifically, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Waking through the campus take you back to a time in which academic excellence was paramount. Additionally, the young men and women that attended Howard, then and now, represent everything good about academia. A must visit.

They have a half off snack rack by the refrigerators! Prices are a bit to the high side but the selection of Howard apparel is good. Not much Greek apparel.

I come in here whenever there is a wave of nostalgia that crashes into my brain and I need new HU gear. Its a cozy little bookstore, with the first floor being dedicated to school merchandise and the books on the second floor. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I hate the new Bison logo, but thats not the bookstores fault.

I was shopping with my mother and son. We was in the store for a while. I couldnt find my size in Howard Mom t- shirt, so I purchased other items. The store clerk came up to me at last minute with a shirt she said was a medium. When I got back home to Texas and unpacked. It was a small. The hanger showed medium, but the shirt was a small. I tried calling the store for a week straight and all I got was the voicemail.

I went shopping at this store on Friday and they treated me as if I was some thief. Now they would get mad if I sued them for discrimination.

The cashiers move long lines with ease, nice selection of HU gear, and if they dont have your size available, they will hunt for it.

This is your average college bookstore, but that being said the people that work there are always happy to help you and they are always friendly. The fact that the bookstore is connected to a starbucks is also a plus, giving students a study space with WiFi in addition to the space on the second floor.

While they dont have a large selection of books, the books they do have are interesting and great ones that may get over looked at large stores. Also, they cater to the students. You can often find autograph copies of books as well.
