The staff here are AMAZING! So kind and knowledgeable, and I felt welcome in this store to browse and explore, considering Ive rarely gone to a comic book store. A fun selection of graphic novels and comics for all ages, I recommend going!
Just sent in so a friend could look around. There were lots of cool books though. Almost bought an Invincible compendium
Brought ilthe whole family. Everyone found something they liked including my preschooler and 2nd grader. The staff were super friendly and were eager to help recommend something new. This place is awesome. 10/10 highly recommend
I was led 2 visit on National Comic day or is it free Comics day? Enjoyed the space & all the crazy doodles all in the bathroom. I took the time 2 take pics of them all too!~
Great store and very knowledgeable staff. Very helpful and super descriptive while explaining some of the basics for Magic.
Great prices and good selection! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. If I lived around here Id be a constant customer 😁
Awesome place with good contemporary selection. The staff is really nice and obviously into what they sell.
Good selection, but mainly Im rating it well because the two kids working there today were super nice and willing to talk about anime. Today was the first time I went there. They even have a few board games.
Store employee was fantastic and very knowledgeable. We went into browse and ended up coming out with a few bags worth of items. Definitely recommend going here. Not a ton of old comics to sort through however they definitely do a great job with making you feel welcome and it was a good experience overall.
What a great place! My husband and I bought several MTG booster packs here at about a dollar cheaper per pack than online. The store has a great vibe, and the workers were very friendly. They even gave us three extra single cards for free, one of which was worth about $20. Will definitely visit again.
Fandom is a nice comic shop with the local DC flavor, small and limited but nicely curated. They have a lot of great displays to point you to some great under the radar titles. When I visited they had some great displays highlighting LGBTQ related books as well as the latest Eisner award nominees. Great little shop definately worth a visit!
Great local comic shop. Helpful staff.
Only three stars as I didnt see the listing to be on second floor. I did not see a way to get up there with a stroller. If there is my mistake.
Dope little place. They have some good tittles, and the clerk was real helpful
@Fantomcomics in #washingtondc #dupontcircle is most definitely a place you would want to visit bo matter if you are a DC native or just visiting. Fantom Comics is among my favorites of all places to spend a little time, some things that makes this place cool is the chill layout, the little knickknacks, collectables, pins, snacks and more... even if you dont collect comics this place has something for everyone.😎👍🏻 Hey everyone this is kamal and I like to do reviews in my spare time from work and if you enjoy any of my post please like with a thumbs up and follow me on here on Google Maps or Instagram @chefkamalcThanks and stay safe 🙏 mask up 😷
Ive been introducing my daughter to the comics I loved as a kid. I went in to Fantom Comics this afternoon to let her pick out a few books and comics.Im walking around holding three books that I planned on buying while she sat on the floor reading a fourth book (which I also planned on buying). The clerk snaps at me, saying that its not a library while pointing to her. Im not there to kill time; Im a customer (a repeat customer) with my purchases in hand.I refuse to buy books from Amazon because I value the book/comic store experience but FC doesnt make it easy. For today, FCs loss was Kramers gain.
Awesome staff with a pretty nice comic collection and they know their stuff and can help you find what your looking for
Cool spot, mostly new comics. Friendly staff too
Very kind, supportive, and helpful. They give their advice on comics and monga alike. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a comic book store.
Even through the pandemic, Fantom Comics remains the best comic shop in the DC metro area. The store is clean, well organized, and well lit. The staff provides excellent customer service, making sure that all feel welcome and safe in both the space and the hobby. No DC shop can be everything to everyone and Fantom isnt known for a deep archive of back issues or vast spaces for gaming, but it is the perfect hub for the Districts diverse, intelligent, and engaged comics community.
I had my 8th birthday here a while ago. My mom was friends with the guy who worked there at the time, and it was an unforgettable, amazing experience. This place has grown to be one of my favorite places in the world, my home away from home, and its a truly special place to say the least. Its really chill, and I recommend it to any comic book lover out there. (The staff are also really cool and are super helpful, kudos to you guys for keepin it up during the pandemic!!!)
NO REFUNDS on purchases. Buyer beware!
Great shop for comics and tcgs
Good selection of modern comics and board and tabletop games. Highly recommend.
This is a very nice comic shop that has all the latest comics from DC, Marvel, and other top publishers. The figurine collection is not too terrible, but it is really fun to look at! Still, if you have time, check out this cozy place and read to your hearts content.
An overall decent shop for new books. Not a lot of variety if youre looking for back issues or something other than new books. Some of the staff are very rude and judgemental towards customers, but most are nice and helpful.
Friendly, helpful staff. Nice selection of comics & games. I go here to for MtG boosters. Support your local game store!
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff!
Great local comic shop and pretty much the only one in the city. They have a great kids section too so fun place to bring kids along. There is also bulk back issues for $5 a lbs. Great deal!
Awesome comic book shop. This store is highly organized. Books are arranged by genre which makes it easy to discover new things. They devote a lot of space to comics made by local independent artists, which is fantastic. A whole area of the store is devoted to family-friendly comics, too! Even better, everyone I met at this store was super friendly. Full disclosure, you can find some of my work here :D Im definitely going back the next time Im in the area!
The young lady at the front desk was very friendly in her greeting. Its a nice and cozy place to hangout to read your comics. The outside needs a paint job so you wont miss the spot.
Not a huge selection of new comics, but I found some I wanted...and the back issues?...not a whole lot or very old ones there, but they were $1 each or $5 per pound! It was AWESOME!!! For gaming, it seemed pretty cool (though I dont play). There were multiple tables with different games going on. I even overheard what sounded like a beginners game going on while one person ran / helped out. Maybe it was a celebrity overseeing a local game. Either way, open until 8 on a Sunday? Nice! Very friendly feeling. They even had a bunch of graphic novels recently signed by a very well known and popular comic writer. Ill definitely be going back...and I live 30+ minutes away.
An excellent comic shop, with excellent customer service and a great selection of comics. I can not recommend highly enough.
Really dig the selection and the atmosphere at this store. Lots of great vibes, the store just feels very welcoming, its well lit and the store is arranges in a way that makes great use of the space
This is my favorite comic shop in dc. They dont have any back stacks, so its not great for older issue searches, but they have a great selection of both popular and less well-known series currently in print. Theres also a decent selection of books. The best thing about this store, though, is the people that work there. Theyre all amazing, passionate, and super knowledgeable about comics! I can always get a new series recommendation :)
The staff was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the material.
Good staff and selection of items, but the space is too small for their hosted events. I may have had an anxiety attack when I tried to attend the monthly dungeons and dragons event because there were SO many people.
Best comic book store in DC. Location is on the floor above the Subway just a block from DuPont Circle. Great customer service. The staff is always knowledgeable and can lead you to the right types of books based on your tastes. They have a kids section, an indie comics section, a huge selection of graphic novels, new comics, toys/collectibles, and clothing. My favorite is when they host speakers at the store or have indie comic book writers and artists selling their stuff. They also have book clubs, happy hours, etc. Pretty much anything you need they have. Not a bad community to be a part of! I absolutely love this place if you cant tell.
Whether you’re a long time comic reader, looking to start your pull list or just popping in for a visit, this is an outstanding comic shop. They have a great mix of mainstream and indie titles and the staff is super helpful and friendly. It’s an inclusive environment open to all types of people. They are happy to offer recommendations if you’re not sure what you’re looking for. My only caveat would be is it is a smaller shop so not a huge selection of collectibles/toys/etc but they carry those as well.
Great little comic store! Charming! Offered a wide range of titles, both familiar and some more unusual. Very interesting children section too. And very friendly staff! 😊
My favorite! The folks at Fantom are so friendly and make everyone feel right at home. They have been great about recommending comics to me and they are great about renewing their stock when something is popular and sells out quickly. I love that they host so many events, although I havent had a chance to go to any yet. Really fun to visit. Definitely check it out! Also probably worth noting that they actually have multiple women working there. I am not used to seeing that in comic book shops and it makes me very happy. :-)
Friendly staff, good selection and its bigger on the inside than it looks. Felt comfortable with the lady who helped me out. She was knowledgeable and we talked about the upcoming Hellboy movie. They also have a bathroom for customers.
Really friendly and helpful staff. Its a really small place, they hold events there but not enough space for people and very hot. But overall good comics and atmosphere.
A comic book shop that is has a goal of being more than a bookstore for comic nerds and geeks. They have D&D and Magic sessions. Salsa lessons. Trivia nights and discussion groups. Autograph signings. Its a great place.
Good full service comic book store with nice staff.
Small but friendly and nice! Great variety and selection. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Right near Dupont station.
Really stellar comic book shop on the west side of Dupont Circle. They have great selection and super kind, knowledgeable staff, and they clearly have a very active and engaged community. Theyre especially good for browsing if you need suggestions (either from someone else or from inspiration seen on their table and shelf setups).
Dope environment all around.
Their website is surprisingly cool and updated. They were also friendly and organized when I picked up my order.
Great spot for comic lovers. Good stock of new releases, plus a decent back catalog for the past 4 weeks or so, but anything earlier is hit or miss. The staff is friendly and very helpful, plus they know their stuff! Local artists are not only supported, they are highlighted. Check their Facebook page for their calendar of events.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and hosts Dungeons & Dragons for new and veteran tabletop players each month! Whats not to love?!
From helpful advice, community events, to a diverse selection of books and zines, I love this store. Everyone here is so nice and are great about celebrating many fandom. Its a shame the building is stairway only and inaccessible to wheelchairs. That has more to do with the landlord and DC than it does Fantom, but it matters.
This is my favorite comic shop to visit when Im in DC for work. They have Marvel and DC, and new releases like all comic shops, but I love how they have their graphic novels section sorted by genre. I was looking for a crime book, The Fade Out, when I went in, and they had it in the crime section. I highly recommend this shop if youre a local or visiting DC from out of town.
Rafael is awesome! Knowledgeable + friendly staff that knows just about everything there is to know about whats going on in the Comic Community. The space is on the second floor of the building- great layout thats sorted by genre then alphabetically. Love that they have a whole section for independent artists!
Knowledge and friendly staff. Very relaxed and comfortable place to discover new books and comics.Perfect place to subscribe to single issues if you work or live in the area.
Phantom Comics is Hidden Gem in the middle of DC and I love the artwork thats posted up the merchandise thats easy to check out comic book display all organized and broken up into meaningful categories unfortunately it doesnt seem like they allow access to their really awesome bathroom anymore
Super cool local business! Love everything about this place
I contacted this store inquiring about some issues and they sent me a friendly response. I was able to visit the store and pick up exactly what I wanted. They had nice music playing and it was a super friendly atmosphere and very organized! Thank you!
Friendly staff, easy going atmosphere. What youd expect of a fan run comic store devoted to inclusivity.
This is an exceptional comic shop. Their selection is relatively small but very well curated. The staff is kind and helpful, and the store is highly active in its community. I go out if my way to visit and find new, unexpected stories.
I go here every week. Its great, theyre very kind. Super queer friendly; Im a trans person and its maybe the only store where Ive never been misgendered.
Somewhat small selection, they didnt really have what I wanted. Staff was really nice but still didnt have any of the older comics I wanted. Cool vibe though. Came here on a trip so I could only afford one visit.
They have cool events, game nights, lots of comics and comic related stuff
Best comic store in DC. Theres a huge kids section, lots of comics by minorities and other vulnerable groups as well as the standard super hero stuff, plus a big wall of TPBs sorted by genre. On top of all that theyve got a super friendly staff.
This place is hella cool. The comics, graphic novels and posters and all dope
This place is Amazing and the twi ladies at the desk were very helpful
I went to Fantom for their trivia night and enjoyed myself a lot. Their trivia is HARD, but fun. The store is on the 2nd floor up from the street and the walls.of the stairs have all sorts of comic book related illustrations and posters. The one bathroom has every wall covered with hand drawn comics (including Batman and Robin making fun of your clothes). On trivia night the store is very full, its not a huge space and and there were lots of people which made bathroom access something you took as soon as possible. The store is attractive and well laid out with a nice selection and friendly and knowledgeable staff.
I travel into Union Station very often and I always stop by Fantom. For the size of the store, they have an impressive variety of titles and publishers. They also have one of the best selections of trades and graphic novels Ive seen outside of New York City, and impressive feat given their store is pretty dang small. I only rated their appeal as very good because it can get a bit crowded in there when its busy =) Otherwise, this is a great shop that I keep coming back to again and again.
The Best Comic Book Store In town Hands Down. They are amazing People and Know there Stuff. A lot of fun things to do besides getting your Comic. They have Trivia Night and More. Also check out there full supply of Toys and merch.
A random search for comics, while leaving a meeting in Dupont Circle, led me to the best comic book store experience that Ive ever had. Hands down. The staff were instantly attentive and extremely helpful with finding me comics not only for myself, but also books suitable for a 2 yr old. Fantom Comics has established itself as my new weekend ritual.
Best staff off any comics store in any city Ive been to. Awesome events. Strong selection of comics with diverse themes and creators.
Friendly staff and wide selection. Great place if youre a comics veteran or looking to just get started. Weekly social events and varied and enjoyable.
In short: really cool store with a frustrating return policy - store credit onlyBought a board game here for my friends secret santa exchange, only to find out he already had it. It turns out the return policy is store credit only, which is quite frustrating for me, as Im neither a comic book reader nor a board game player. I understand the policy for comic books, but in the age of online shopping, I really ought to be able to return a brand-new unopened board game and get my original payment back - I feel I lost out for shopping local and not on Amazon. If I had known about the policy prior to purchasing, (perhaps the owners could consider posting a sign?) I probably wouldnt have made the purchase. That being said, it seems like a cool store. Plenty of unique comics (keep in mind, Im not a fan and only perused) and related toys/games, including offerings for all sorts of interests (childrens books, female superheroes, even a cool AOC comic!). It also seems like a popular community fixture as well, as there was a big group for trivia the night I visited. Based on my limited exposure to the world of comics and board games, this seems like an awesome venue to both purchase and enjoy!
Tiny but cozy. Came in to with a friend to find a Zelda comic. They were playing MTG on a saturday afternoon. Coolio
Normally get my comics here. Im a casual fan and for the most part I havent caught any heat. Staff is diverse, as is the selection. My husband did have a rude interaction with a staff member once. But never again.
Great local comics shop! Just got into comics and they are very welcoming!
Great community-focused comic book store
Looked it up before I took my trip to DC. Its in DuPont Circle and it is a cool little shop right above a pizza place and 2nd hand bookstore. LGBT friendly is an understatement. I listened to the staff as I shopped and they KNEW their comics. I even found a book I had never heard of. I could have easily bought it on Amazon but this store blew my mind with their selection and I had to have it immediately. Shop local and you will find some hidden gems.
Great comic book store, definitely the best in DC! Knowledgeable staff that has given me pretty good recommendations, and Ive never felt pressured.
They are the best
Located on the third floor, this is a hidden D.C. gem. A wide variety of current issues from mainstream and obscure publishing houses, cool collectibles, and decent back issues.
What can I say. This is the best comic shop Ive ever been too. Inclusive. Smart. Innovative. Fun. Must go!
Great selection of comics and graphic novels, not just the big two. Independent and local creators as well. Highly recommended.
The staff isnt only knowledgeable, but is more than happy to talk to you about your favorite book. Also, better yet recommend solid books based off your likes and dislikes.10/10 would recommend to both friends and family.
Helpful, quirky and knowledgeable staff have helped me revive my love of comics after years away. Always feel connected to my fellow geeks when I walk through the door.
The people, who work there, are extremely nice. I always look forward to going there.
In DC for a conference and decided to stop by. I really like their layout for the trades and both staff members were extremely helpful and nice. Thank you
It was very peaceful inside. The selection of manga I wish there were more. I almost missed it I walked passed it the first time its at the upper level.
Small shop with huge character!! The folks here are knowledgeable, friendly, and nerdy in the best way possible. Plus, Friday Night Magic! Come check it out!
After moving to D.C., I was missing the massive comic shop I had back where I used to live, but Im glad I found Fantom - its selection is even better in some regards. Its a small store, so the inventory can move pretty quickly, but I find it very well curated, using its space efficiently with a good indie selection.
More than just a comic shop, with book groups, events, and a very accessible and knowledgeable staff
One of the better graphic novel and comic book stores this side of the pond
Fantastic store!Longtime customer, but the new location at Dupont is spectacular.Stellar customer service, more than willing to handle special requests and help with complex gift purchases. If youre looking for a new home in the District, this should be it!
A good comic book store. Selection is not bad but not big. Helpful customer service and good atmosphere.
