A pretty solid bagel. Bacon was well cooked but would have liked a better egg to bacon ratio. Ordering online was easy and fast. Once I got the text that my food was ready I was able to walk right up and pick up.

This place was so good! One of the best breakfast bagels I’ve ever had. Next time I’m in DC I will definitely be back, probably more than once! They were really busy so it took a little time to get our order but the wait was well worth it! Both ladies that helped me were so nice and professional despite some people being a little rude to them. Thank you Buffalo & Bergen for serving me the best breakfast I’ve had my whole trip to dc!

An honorable nod to the New York diner and Jewish Deli. I grew up in the New York area and very much enjoyed the offerings and spin on classic offered here in Union Market. A great choice if you can nab seats at the bar!

Atmosphere is nice and bartenders are good. But the food is a disaster. It’s nowhere near even the cheapest NYC bagels. The bagel was unbelievably small, dry and over salted. It was so dry it was literally falling apart while I was eating it.P.S. decided to give a chance to a knish and it just tasted spoiled and fermented :(

Cute little breakfast spot in Union Market! I actually wasnt sure what this place was until recently when I came here after a long run. MY body was craving cheese, eggs, meat and carbs. Enter Buffalo and Bergen.I ordered an everything bagel sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese. The bagel came out pretty quickly. It was really delicious! Everything was cooked perfectly and I also really liked that there were several different varieties of cheese to select for the bagel sandwich.Service was really friendly and made the experience a lot better. I really like that you can sit at the diner-style stools. It feels like youre not in the bustle of Union Market which is nice.Would come back!

Something is going terribly wrong at the Capitol Hill outpost. Tried it twice before reviewing, terrible bagels. My everything bagel was underdone in the middle and over baked on the outside and my cinnamon raisin bagel pale with a huge hole and somewhat stale at 9am. No crust. I’m from NY where even the smallest bagel shops do better than this.

Best. Bagels. On the planet. Cocktails are excellent, interesting, and rotate to maximize seasonal ingredients. Bees and wines also rotate nicely. As someone with gluten sensitivity (not full on celiac) who has to carefully consider his gluten sacrifices, I love their bagels. Great food if you like things served on any kind of bagel. The wait is usually a bit long, but you can probably chalk that up to these sandwiches being made-to-order. B&B is just as good for lunch as it is for breakfast. Theyve also got craft cocktails and a bar if youre looking for a way to pass the time while you wait. Recommend the Mountain Shiksha on a salted bagel - the perfect combo of sweet and salty. Like most things in Union Market (and DC for that matter), a bit on the pricier side.

I had a craving for a bagel sandwich all week... so I ordered the egg cheese and lox bagel. I got the scallion cream cheese which is extra and the whole thing came out to be $16.00... $16.00 really??? The bagel sandwich was fine they forgot to put tomatoes that i asked for and didnt put any red onions or capers... Thanks. I sat down at a picnic table, ate my mediocre sandwich while the various people at union market walked by... and thought about income inequality the rest of the morning.

The service was horrible.... sat at the bar which was empty for atleast 10 mins before even being acknowledged.... then when placing an order they had none of the ingredients needed to make the drink.... whether it was the alcohol, syrup..etc. My bagel was burnt... I asked for another that was burnt and when I requested it be taken off my bill and I just paid for my soda since it was the only thing they had.... the owner threw a fit... didnt want to give my money back and when she did she threw the change at me on the counter. I will never return to this place... Her attitude is terrible.... as a business owner myself customer service is important to me... and she failed miserably

Nowhere close to a NY Bagel. Having been around NY style bagels my whole life, these are subpar at best. The closest this comes to being a NY Style bagel is the extremely generous amount of cream cheese that is globbed onto the bagel. The cream cheese stood out more than the baguette style bread they call a bagel.

Fantastic Sunday Brunch! I had an Original Sin Bagel, which was a delicious combination that despite the average size of the bagel was delicious and filling. The place was very busy and I had to wait a while before a seat at the bar opened up, but you dont need to sit there to order, you can order and get handed your food. Due to the sheer number of people ordering, you might need to wait a few minutes for your food, but thats okay because the quality is high. I found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. I will definitely come back.

I hate to be leaving a bad review after only one visit to Buffalo & Bergen, but Im not interested in a second visit. I had the knish and I tried a bagel with egg and cheese. First the knish - it wasnt like any knish Ive ever had (the crust was lame, not crisp; it was served more like a pierogi than a knish). Second the bagel - it had no flavor. Top all this off with the following: they serve ice coffee out of a pitcher filled with ice, resulting in an ice coffee that tastes more like water than coffee. When I sent it back, I was then asked if I was alright. Am I alright? Yeah, Im fine... but when I order coffee, I dont want water.

Buffalo & Bergen is one of the few NYC style bagel places in DC and some would claim its the best bagel in the city. If you walk by it and dont pick up on their bagel vibe, youre in good company. It does NOT look like a bagel shop. Its a round bar in the middle of Union Market and looks more fancy than any other bagel shop youve ever been to....but do pull up a seat at the bar and enjoy. They have a vast menu with every kind of bagel you can imagine and dozens of bagel sandwiches to pick from. They do breakfast bagel sandwiches all day too! I recommend the breakfast bandit for a bit of a kick and the south philly if you like cheesesteak sandwiches.Their drinks are on point too. I go with the more simple drinks, but if you like something unique, try their bloody mary. It was voted best in DC in 2015 and comes loaded with a bagel on top! If you like sweet, try their nutella vodka milkshake. Wow.Buffalo & Bergen, were so glad youre in DC!

The design of Buffalo & Bergen is beautiful. My egg cream was delicious (but very much over-priced) and it was made within a few minutes of ordering. My sandwich (which I could only eat half but was very good) took almost 20 minutes to get made. By that time my egg cream was just a sweet memory. Timing was extremely bad as were many other things at Buffalo & Bergen. The female server seemed flustered and upset from the get go. She wasnt very friendly. I gave her the benefit of the doubt. She wasnt feeling well or stressed out - my first (and more-than-likely) only visit to B&B and their only server is having a tremendously bad day. I should have cancelled my sandwich order and exited but unfortunately I stayed.A disturbing and definitely against several health code violations happened before my very eyes. While sipping my egg cream the stressed out server broke a glass. It looked like some may have gone into the ice bin. The glass broke on the counter near the ice bin and then crashed to the floor smashing completely. It actually gets worse. The stressed out, now more stressed out server, takes off her shoe with her bare hands! Shakes her shoe. Then places her shoe ON THE COUNTER and rubs her foot! I was absolutely shocked and disgusted.I then observed her scooping out a little bit of the possibly shards-of-glass infused ice into the sink. Just a little of the ice!? This is extremely dangerous. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that all of the ice needs to be tossed, hot boiling water into the ice bin, then a careful wipe down and inspection of the clean and sanitized ice bin before refilling.None of these actions were taken. I ate what I could of my bagel sandwich. Although the cook served it to me and I was relieved hoping his hands were a lot cleaner than the flustered clumsy server - I just lost confidence in the entire operation.I did leave a basic 15%. I shouldnt have left anything but did feel badly. Gazing at my check I was starting to feel badly for myself. A standard size egg cream and small bagel sandwich with 15% tip was $23 bucks?!Anyway, that was a difficult lesson learned. I tried to find a manager for B&B to report possible broken glass in the ice bin. As well as the blatant unhygenic actions of the server. I stayed on another 15 minutes, while more customers sat at the counter. The server never even washed her hands nor used a hand sanitizer. She continued using the possibly tainted ice for the drinks of the new customers.I went off to continue shopping but had asked other merchants adjacent to B&B if they knew if the manager or owner of B&B was around but no one had seen her that day. I checked again before leaving Union Market but didnt see any new employees at B&B so I left.So for several reasons I cannot recommend this place.
