Disabled vet so I couldnt use the self checkout. Only 1 lane open, but cashier has disappeared to handle a customer service issue. The self bag lane finally opened to I could purchase my 4 items. Otherwise, store is clean and chicken wing prices were great and the wings are huge

Fair warning up front: you MUST have a military ID, or be the guest of someone with a military ID, to enter.I love coming here. They usually have some of the best prices on chicken, so I tend to stock up.They also carry some different dog food that I cant find most other places, and fortunately I live pretty close, so it works out well.In many respects its a standard grocery store, but for a long time it was the only place I could find one of my favorite sauces.

Always clean with great selection, I pass allot stores before I get to this store. Higher quality and large selection of name brands products. You do pay a usage fee at check out.

Oceana Commissary is always clean, and they do fairly well at keeping products on hand. Cashiers and Baggers are always helpful and friendly. I shop for my elderly mother and several of the cashiers and baggers remember her and they always ask how she is doing.

Excellent commissary. Best days to go are Tuesday - Thursday between 10am - 12pm if your intention is to beat the crowd. Its worth the drive if you live anywhere that is 25 minutes away as its a newer facility compared to all of the other local commissaries to Hampton Roads. This location is near the Oceana Air Station which is less populated than the Norfolk base. Additionally, they recently started offering curbside grocery pickup so you can now do your shopping online and then pick up at the curb. Highly recommend this location over others.

I do not know why, but I always have difficulty with the layout of the store and it seems to change regularly. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The deli seems a bit understaffed. I was not aware that this store had online shopping until recently.

Prices are semi-competitive. You can shop around and get better prices and selection when it comes to produce but for canned goods and paper items its a pretty good savings. The deli is wonderful and I love the automated system where I can order my deli items, shop around and get a text when its ready for pickup instead of just standing there waiting for my number to get called. The sushi is decent if you get there early enough to get it when its first made.Checkout has always been quick and they even have a self checkout. Cant say Ive ever waited a long time to check out even on a pay day.The only thing I dont like about this location is there is no seafood section like others in the area. There is a small selection in the freezer aisle but not a whole lot to choose from.

I love this commissary; always stocked and has an excellent selection. Sometimes you have to make sure your items have not expired thats the only reason I didnt give them five stars. Today I found expired beef sticks in the back near the meat department. Come on now!

My husband served in the USAir Force for 24 years, retiring as an O6. Now at 80 years of age we have happily retired in Virginia Beach looking forward to beaches, temperate weather and military privileges at the many military installations in this area. However, we have just returned home from a horrendous Oceana Commissary trip. At 6 p.m. there were 2 of16 checkout lanes open, one of those an Express lane which thankfully was taking all customers. The air conditioner was obviously not functioning correctly so the long line of customers waiting to check out did so in a very warm environment. Why this store stays open until 9 p.m. with only 2 cashiers in a warm building should be addressed. If appropriate conditions, enough checkout lanes open to comfortably serve our military at seasonally comfortable temperatures cannot be provided it should make this shortcoming known. Another sad way to thank our men and women in uniform and those who dedicated their career life to our country.

Normally I would give the NASO Commissary 5 stars but not today. This afternoon the ID check point didnt say a word while I presented my retired military ID card without a face mask. Was all over the commissary getting groceries and nobody said a word. Got to the check out line and one of their flunkies told me I couldnt be in there without a face mask. So I left with out buying the groceries I had in my shopping cart. Told the management next time I come in there, dont push the issue with me. Tell their flunky to stay in his lane. Call what ever law enforcement agency they want to and ask them to arrest me for not wearing a face mask. I am not a sheep. I am a free and independent person who can think for myself and will deal with the consequences of my actions with what ever law agency they call.

The Oceana commissary is one of the best commissarys Ive had my pleasure to shop. They always everything I need in stock, very friendly, and the new web-based ordering system makes it very easy & convenient to shop.

Well stocked, now you are able to bring one civilian in with you as long as they have a valid state ID. Great prices and very secure!

I love the prices and coupons that are given out in the store. The produce department has a great and fresh variety of fruits and vegetables. We love shopping at the Commissary and saving money!

Shelves & display cases fully stocked @ time of shopping. Aisles spacious, clean & clear of extraneous product cases. Check out lines are efficiently organized. It was a pleasant experience over all.

The store has evolved over the past decade, as any lasting business should. To me, it has evolved into the Harris Teeter type store. Its not quirky as Trader Joes, nor pricey like Whole Foods. The variety of products is excellent. The Deli and Sushi Bar are terrific, although Ive never actually bought from the Bakery, yet it looks pretty. The produce is constantly checked by staff, who are always friendly and help if you need them. The aisles are wide (for those of you who are unaware: shopping carts flow as you would be driving in the States- not in the UK. meaning: drive/park on the right); and the bathroom is clean (well, I cant speak for the mens bathroom. Ive not had the embarrassment of walking into it mistakenly). They now have an internet coupon program; they call it Rewards, but its not a true Rewards program. It enables you to enroll to see all the vendors who participate and offer coupons. You have to do the work to get the offers (I know its fair, but Ive been pampered by other stores Rewards programs- the one where it spits out a coupon for you to use on your next visit!). Ive been told the Commissaries stateside are all on the chopping block. Dont know when itll happen, maybe not in my lifetime, however, I thought Id take the time before I die to let the taxpayers, the employees, the vendors know how much Ive enjoyed shopping there.

They have caught up to mainstream marketing, and there is easy cooked meals now available! What a nice blessing! I also noticed they now have a grocery pickup feature. On payday that will be so awesone to avoid the crowded commissary crowds!

Well arranged - fantastic selection - what I always thought an Commissary should be. A word of warning. All that glitters is not gold. A bargain package of Charmin was 18 dollars while package with almost twice as much was 26 online. Shop your bargains. Other prices could not be beaten.

First time in the commissary since 2003 when I was active duty. Visited the NEX tonight too. Nice to have access to these privileges as a veteran now.

I love shopping at the Commissary near Oceana Naval Air Station. They offer low prices, carry many of the items that I look for, and it is a comfortable shopping experience.One item of note: My grandson has peanut, egg, and dairy allergies and I can find a good selection of food items here for him.
