My husband bought my engagement ring from The Gold Mine in 1985. We also bought our wedding bands there. Fast forward to 2021. I’d always wanted to have my engagement diamond reset in some way that would be very meaningful to me. Over the years we had four dogs we adored go to the big dog house in the sky. All four were cremated. I learned when we cremated the last one that you can now have diamonds made out of your pets’ (or your loved ones’) ashes. Yes, that is a real thing! Who knew ?!? So I had diamonds made from these dogs who had defined our married lives for the new ring and I only trusted the people at the Gold Mine to do the ring. Mike and Kirsten provided great service and for a very reasonable price. They researched the best way to give me what I wanted and met my every expectation! I told them what sort of design I wanted and they made it happen. Mike’s workmanship is outstanding. The ring is everything i’d hoped for and more. The final product is stunning!!
I moved away from Virginia Beach five years ago but I loved the Gold Mine. Im not sure I ever meet Steve but the older guy who repairs jewelry was so nice. The fixed a few rings for me and did great work at a fair price. Really enjoyed working with this company and would highly recommend them.
Shirley is very friendly and offers very fair prices! She has helped me multiple times with silver that I traded in, and I appreciate her patience. I will definitely keep sending her business!
Steve the owner is a subject matter expert on all types of jewelry. I can count on him, time time again, to educate me on all types of precious metals. So I will be visiting him again this year to help me select the perfect present for my wife this year. Thank you Steve!!!!! See you soon!
Spent time helping me differentiate valuable and costume jewelry. They also have a beautiful selection. The man in front of me purchased 6 items at a price of 1 equivalent Zales necklace ( one of the necklaces was equivalent size and weight to the Zales necklace) Highly recommended!!
Shirley always treats us like family. The custom work is beyond compare, and value per dollar spent is always generous. Straight shooters. Knowledgeable and helpful.
Wow! I came here with some random coins that I found in a move, not expecting to make a mint, just more cash than I had with them just collecting dust and this place had a good review on here. I have NEVER heard someone SO RUDE as the man who works here (owner?). The lady in the front tried to relay what hed ranted at her about for 5 minutes with various slams to me, but I wasnt having any of it. Walked out with my coins. Ill let them continue to gather dust then take even a dollar from that crook.
A first class experience, Thank you so much Shirley, always the best.
I originally went into The Gold Mine to ask about a piece of gold jewelry I had. I really didnt know much about gold, prices or even how a pawn shop worked. Shirley was friendly and engaging and made me feel comfortable right off the bat. She told me how much the piece was worth in weight and even suggested I try to sell it for more as it was, that she would be there if I wanted to come back. I went back a couple of days later and had them size and straighten 2 rings I hadnt worn in years. The repairs were perfect and very reasonably priced.Recently, I needed to sell some jewelry, sentimental jewelry. I went to another, highly advertised, store and was completely unimpressed. The service was fine, the prices were ok....I just expected more from their advertising and website. I decided to leave there and go see Shirley again. Her honesty, respectful approach and understanding of more than just the jewelry, sets The Gold Mine experience apart. Shirley will tell you if you will get more somewhere else (ebay, etsy, an antique dealer). She is kind and tells you that she wont disrespect the emotions attached to a piece, if she cant give you a great price (wedding ring). She is knowledgeable, caring, fair and no nonsense. Pawn shops do not buy a piece for the piece itself, they mostly buy the piece for melt value. That is hard to hear sometimes, but, Shirley and her team are honest, up front and understanding. I will never take my business elsewhere. They also have beautiful jewelry, watches, pendants, etc, for sale in a clean, lovely, safe showroom....at really great prices.
I found an old gold chain in a drawer and decided to sell it because gold prices are a lot higher now than when I bought it over 20 years ago. All I can say is DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Without mentioning any names, I called one place in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake that advertises best price for gold on their television ads. Some ditzy chick quoted $10 to $17 per gram.... depending on what it is. Their other store in the Hilltop area quoted $21/gram. The local pawn shop offered me $90 for a 21.5 gram 14K chain... Thats only $4.18 per gram. I called Steve at The Gold Mine and he confirmed what I suspected. A lot of these local gold buyers are ripping people off. I ended up walking out of The Gold Mine with a check for a little under $500.00. Thank you Steve... for not only the education, but a fair and honest price for my goods.
Best people as always
