Very clean tattoo shop. Also got in and out fairly quickly. My artist was great too. A little pricey but worth it because they guarantee/warranty their tattoo work over time which is awesome.

I went to Blue Horse the other day and this was the best tattoo shop I have been to in Virginia Beach. I have been to about 6 other shops within the last 3 years and everything about this shop has been great. The hospitality when I walked in was great. I had a little wait so me and my 2 friends played pool in the mean time. We had 3 small tattoos that needed to be done and we were out within 30 minutes once the first tattoo started. I definitely will be back.

Everyone was so lovely! They helped me to get exactly what I wanted while also looking the best for the longest time. I really appreciated this as I was getting my first tattoos. Also got my second earlobe piercings. It was a clean, professional, and inviting atmosphere. Reasonably priced as well! Will be coming back for any future work! :D

The tattoo artist, Zach, was wonderful! My sister and I came as walk-ins to get our first tattoo here. We had heard of this place from one of our friends, who got their tattoo here.From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly smiles. Everyone had good energy and were very helpful + knowledgeable on what would or wouldnt work.I think it is so important for tattoo places to have a welcoming feeling and our experience definitely was. Zach was very nice, funny and told us if we had any questions, to ask. I was a bit nervous, but his personality and way about things made you ease up. There was a point where I did feel like I was going to faint and immediately him, as well as another artist helped me.Overall, the experience was great and I will definitely come back.

Dude was polite and courteous. Accepted me as a walk in. I was only gonna do one ear he offered both. He did a great job. No pain really at all. Slight amount of cleaning solution given to me and it works well. Would recommend 100 xs.

HEAVY HANDED!! BLED IMMEDIATELY AFTER SESSION… Went a couple weeks ago with a friend for a walk in, waited for several hours with hardly any other customers in the shop. Finally a guy (can’t remember his name) but taller guy on the left when you walk in second booth started working on me. Literally 30 mins later it was done and I bled instantly this is my 12th tattoo and one of the smaller ones on a shoulder. My healing process is terrible because he dug so deep in my skin my tattoo scabbed from the bleeding. I’ve had only one other tattoo bleed but not as bad as this. Tattoo is cool just know I’m going to have to get it touched up ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its no surprise that this is one of the more reviewed shops in the area, every artist there was enthusiastic and friendly, which is something Im not used to seeing at other shops around here. Adam did my piece, and was very thorough from start to finish.

Got an awesome tattoo here. For the best experience you have to book an appointment with someone, they are really busy. Walk ins seem to have to wait hrs. i tried getting another tattoo but the experience wasnt as smooth as the first one. Unfortunately i went to another shop (Ancient Tattoo)who was able to take me and did just as good of a job if not better. I would recommend going here just dont expect it to be an in and out process.

I made an appointment with Geo da Vinci after looking at his portfolio and payed $100 deposit.. I told him that this would take some time because I was going to design a tattoo that is dedicated to the 31 years of naval service that I just finished and I needed ideas from him as the “artist “. I didnt hear from him again until the day before our appointment after I text him. He set me an idea based on what I told him and I told him I didnt like that design so we talked about a couple different designs again and set up an appointment for 2 weeks later and again I didnt hear from him until the day before the appointment AFTER I texted him again.. When he told me he didnt have any designs drawn up. The sad part was he told me that we had to cancel our appointment anyways because he switched his hours around and wouldnt be able to make our appointment, this was the day before the appointment. I sent him many pictures of exactly what I wanted He told me that I was being too precise and he probably wasnt the person to tattoo me. What this really came down to is he didnt want to erase a few lines On an Internet picture that he downloaded and quit on me. I would not recommend them to anyone that has a very detailed or precise design or requires help to figure out what they want. They were quick to take my $100 deposit but very slow to figure out what I actually wanted. I would not expect this of professionals. Luckily I dont have to get the tattoo in a certain amount of time so I can take my time and find the true professionals that will care about what the customer wants.

Went to blue horseshoe today for a nose piercing and WOW!!!! such professionalism and one of the cleanest shops I have seen. Julia, the piercer, was AMAZING!! From the moment I called until I showed up was such a pleasure to work with. Explained everything and was just 110% amazing. Will recommend to everyone and will be back for more work!! Thank you!!!

If I could put negative stars I WOULD!! this place is clean but the service and my experience with receiving my tattoo was terrible. The work I got done is a result of poor artistry. I asked for a simple symbol thinking it’ll be an easy job but I walked out with something I could have gotten from a five year old!

I love this place! I was able to walk in and get my tragus pierced within 30 min by Biscuit! He was super nice and professional and made me feel at ease when getting my piercing! The new apprentice at the front desk was also super sweet and helpful!! I highly recommend this place for all of your piercing and tattoo needs!!

I’ve visited this shop multiple times to consider both tattoos and piercings. (Both before and after COVID-19.). I’ve never been in a shop and been looked down upon for having a lack of tattoos before. (Mine are covered by clothes.). During two subsequent visits where I inquired about several piercings I was considering, I was ignored, then pushed to the side, only to be ignored so that other customers could joke and talk to the people up front. TWICE. My questions and concerns were bothersome to the front desk person and when I realized that I wouldn’t get any help, I asked to speak to someone else or to see a piercer. I was told that it wasn’t possible and I haven’t been back. I tried to tell myself that the shop is just busy but there’s no excuse to leave customers waiting and waiting just to ignore them. Luckily, while being ignored I found another person in the shop who was disappointed and we found another shop to take our questions and give our business to. But it’s a shame that I’ve heard such awesome things about BH just to be treated poorly.

My husband and I went in today to get our sons name on our forarm. Will our artist did a amazing job. He was friendly, fast and a nice steady hand. This is my second time coming to this shop and I will keep coming here for all future.

Julia was the best! She made my nostrils and daith piercing as quick and as painless as possible and she was so so nice and charismatic and made me very comfortable with the process since I was nervous. The whole process from paperwork, payment, to piercing was quick and easy and the front desk staff were great with all my questions and explaining pricing. Just a great experience overall :)

For starters the tattoo artist messed upmy tattoo! She does not need to be an “artist” if she cant do a 5inch hand tattoo. Secondly, I got my tongue pierced over a month ago and i waited over a hour as i watched the piercer sitting in the corner on his phone. this was supposedly just because of a “miscommunication”. Here it is time for me tochange my piercing and i cannot get it out tosave my Life !! I come back and now allof a sudden they are not doing oral piercings and have a new piercer which is BACKWARDS if you ask me! They suggested u go all the way to PORTSMOUTH when i live in VA BEACH. NO. All the staff (all women) were very rude as if they had better things to do and very dismissive! HORRIBLE SHOP AND WOULD GIVE NEGATIVE STARS IF I COULD.

The piercing lady idk her name but i didnt even get the chance to learn it because she didnt take my services because she was “pissed”. so not ok I drove 20 mins in my house & it was pouring outside just to get turned back around. ill stick with artisan 😩

I got a septum piercing by their piercer and he was so rude and when I said I was nervous he goes yeah I am too. he pierced my septum way too low and through cartilage. he didnt go over anything with me. no cleaning, no sizes literally nothing. its crooked and too low and also too close to the bridge of the nose right below the septum. It was my first piercing and I had no idea it was wrong until my piercer friend said he should be fired. he is really bad lmao

I could not be happier with my tattoo! I went in for a walk-in tattoo while they were super busy and I knew I’d be waiting for at least 4 hours but the end result was totally worth it! I will be coming back for so many more tattoos! At the beginning they told me that it would just be like work but my artist went all in and gave me more then what I was expecting for a great price! I highly recommend this place!!!

I got my second hole pierced 2 weeks ago and today my earring snapped in half inside my ear! I went to buy a new earring and they didn’t even have the same one! I asked for 2 of the same one and she said she gave me the last one! The lady at the front was not accommodating and this SHOULD NOT be happening! My surgical steal earrings should not be literally breaking in half!! I paid my $10.60 for 1 earring and she said my 40 cents would have to be in pennys because that’s all they had! Absolutely the worst place I’ve been too and will not be back!

Went today— was told they could do a tat for me. I did all the paperwork and then was told to go sit down. I sat for a few then went back up there to ask if i needed to pay before or after. A different guy at this point asked me to show him what i wanted and he said that i would need an appointment - even though i was already told they could do it today and i had been waiting.They didn’t seem professional at all.Not that me driving 4 hours to come there was their fault but when i told him that, a guy literally threw his arms up like “oh well”Thankfully another shop was near and they got us in with no problem and were very professional.

Honestly, if I could give negative stars I would. The issue is the piercer. I never encountered the tattoo artists so I’m not sure about them. She was just a different level of rude and if I’m talking to you about possibly wanting to get a hole stabbed in my body from you and I’ve been absolutely polite in every way then you should not roll your eyes at me and walk away. RUDE. I understand people have bad days but if you wanted to a decent tip from someone I would consider being a wee bit nicer.

I came one two separate occasions with two separate friends and they both ended up waiting over an hour for the service. It’s really hard to understand their no return policy when they make you wait an hour for a simple nose piercing.

This place was great. Super nice staff. I was nervous about getting my nose piercing, but it didnt hurt at all!! The guy Biscuit who did my piercing put me at ease. It was quick and painless. Awesome place.

I went in as a walk in and got my tattoo drawn and done very quickly. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The facility itself was also kept very clean. I would recommend going here and hopefully will be able to go back soon.

Not only did I call but I also tried to make an appointment to get a piercing done at 8, which the lady on the phone told me they don’t allow but assured I would be able to get my piercing done. When I got there she proceeded to tell me that they were all booked up and that I couldn’t get anything done then when I explained exactly how I tried to make an appointment she blew me off. I had an earring get stuck in my ear, after wearing the same earring for about eight years that can happen... My friend clamped the back down so badly that I could have found myself going to the emergency room if it ever became infected because there was no way in the world anybody was able to get it out at that point. EVEN THOUGH THIS PARTICULAR SHOP DOES NOT CHARGE TO REMOVE PIERCINGS, THEY WERE WILLING TO HELP ME REMOVE THE STUD STUCK IN MY CARTILAGE FOR FREE (OF COURSE I TIPPED BECAUSE THEY DID SAVE ME FROM A CO-PAY AT THE EMERGENCY ROOM 🥰) . Imagine having an earring in your ear that you cannot take out, you can feel an infection coming on and you cannot take it out to clean it or treat it or let it heal... That definitely would have been a trip to the emergency room... and despite four men not being able to take the earring out of my ear with all the tools they utilized previously to me calling the shop for help, the man named biscuit was able to take the stud out in three seconds of me walking in his piercing room... I didnt have to wait more than 10 minutes for my free service... This shop was not the one that put the piercing in my cartilage that got stuck... and despite the fact that they did not pierce it, or cause it to get stuck in my ear, they didnt turn me away nor did they charge to remove it... Before writing this review I did read a few comments that this particular shop does have a long wait, I personally didnt wait very long when I came tonight T, REGARDLESS, they obviously have integrity and skill... Id rather wait an hour somewhere to get the job done correctly rather than walk into a place that doesnt know what theyre doing and get served right away... As a matter of fac, if I walk into a shop and I dont see customers Ive learned that that is a red flag to walk away

Joe Hitt is an incredible tattooist! Got my first tattoo here and I can’t say I wanted anything differently. The process was painless and the needle machine was so quiet, so I didn’t have to hear an irritating buzz. Took about 35 minutes for something that looks like it took hours. Joe is also such a nice down to earth guy. I’ll definitely come again!Edit: No problem, it was worth the whole drive!

When I called asking about booking an appointment they said I would have to go in because it depends on the tattoo so my husband went inside and they told him in about 5 hrs they will call us so we waited 5 hrs even went up there thinking oh we might be next and nope so I went inside and the lady told me different “ that an artist left so if they finish all the other people who signed some paper work and the people who had appointments and the people who were on the call list they would call us, I seen the papers and the line of people there was no way we would get in today and it was already 7Pm and they close @10!! I asked if we can book an appointment she said the only thang we can do it come early in the AM!! Wow and I live all the way in Norfolk!! What a waste of time and gas!! Unprofessional!!!

Two stars because the staff is nice and the place is clean.The problem is they do not make appointments. Extremely frustrating and unprofessional. No matter what time of day you call or go there is always a wait. You would think they would make appointments to handle business but they don’t. Choose someplace else to get your piercings done. You’ll actually get them done instead of waiting for nothing. I went and there were 2 people waiting, sat for almost 45 minutes and no one came out. You never saw the piercer take a person back or come out to get someone.

I went here for my first cartilage piercing, a helix regular not a forward helix. The workers were a little rude but most of them were nice. The piercing was quick, 5/10 on the pain scale. It has been a month and one day sense I’ve got my helix done and my piercing now has an infection which leaves me in tears. Not necessarily their fault but still a great place to get a piercing, over all not to bad of a price as well. Oh and the wait was horrible it was about 2-3hour wait got there at 5 left at 6:30-7ish

Got ears pierced for $30 they do offer military discount. idk what they have against children but not allowed to bring them in the shop. I have many tattoos and my daughter does well in the shop. good thing my artist isnt at blue horse. Anyways the piercing came out cool.

I got a piercing and a tattoo for my 18th birthday and my experience with everyone there was amazing! Biscuit made me feel very comfortable during my piercing and was joking around with me and held a good conversation. Pedro (guest artist) did my tattoo and he did an amazing job and I will definitely come back for my piercing and tattoo needs.

I waited in the car for a hour and a half for my sister to get her NOSE pierced!!!! Not only did they skip her in line, they made her wait that long for a 2 minute piercing!!!!! WORST PLACE! Save your money & go somewhere else! Plus their website prices are COMPLETELY wrong! Charged her $15 more in shop!

The Manager John Duffy took my money and still wont finish the tattoo and even though they promise a life time warranty on a tattoo that he wont finish and then when I told Chris about it the owner he told me Im better off going somewhere else I had a girlfriend that had the same issue that somebody started her tattoo she paid them in full and now they no longer work there and they wont finish her tattoo they scam females and if youre doing large work and not something small and simple they will take your money and not finish the job so you got to be careful when going there why you are there because these guys scam females for their money I do not refer anybody else to ever go to Blue horseshoe in Portsmouth.plus I never asked him to do the spiral design he spent over an hour coloring in the spiral that I did not even request to have done all I wanted was candy to fill in the Open spaces on the whole cheek and instead he did what he wanted to do instead of discussing it with me now Im stuck with a tattoo thats half finish not what I asked for and he still wont complete it after I gave him $300.

This place was awful. From the moment we walked in the people were extremely rude. After explaining what I wanted to the first man, I was told it was doable, just slightly larger. Once we filled out paperwork, the second guy tried to tell me it wasn’t possible to do it that size, that it’d have to be bigger than the size of my palm. (I have smaller tattoos with a lot more detail Including watercolor and a lot of detailed lines) I genuinely feel like they just didn’t want to do it. They seem like a place that just does very basic tattoos like small quotes and aren’t interested in doing anything even slightly more complicated.

They have taken me in twice as a walk in. Super clean, easy to schedule, cash only (but they have an atm though)

Such an amazing place and will definitely be back soon!!!

We went there and got a tattoo for my daughter. Our appointment was at 11 am on a Sunday and it has been my experience with other places that the artist may have had a late night the day prior and would be running late, I even thought that the drawing we selected may not even be ready....I was pleasantly wrong, Penny our artist was waiting for us! She also had the chosen piece already sketched for the best tattoo fit.The whole process was very smooth and Penny was very patient with my daughters first tattoo.she explained the whole process of sanitation and disposal!The only thing is that it is a cash business and because I dont ever carry cash, I had to use the ATM within the facility which charges fees, etc, but once that was settled things went very smoothly and my daughter ended up with a nice and well done tattoo! Id recommend the place and Penny for first timers!

Came into the shop around 5:50pm and paid beforehand then waited until 7:20pm for Biscuit, the piercer, to come back from his lunch break and didn’t get my nose pierced until 7:30pm. After being seated in the piercing room I was asking questions in order to prepare myself for the pain, he seemed aggravated and impatient although I was the one waiting almost 2 hours to get my service. For further notice, I would recommend calling ahead to check for availability.

I have gotten two different piercings here! As someone who is terrified of needles and has a low pain tolerance, I have had such pleasant experiences here. Ive gotten piercings done by two different artists, Julia and Biscuit, and theyve both been very informative, co-operative, and very nice, Biscuit even cracked a few jokes. Would recommend to anyone looking for local piercings!

Penny is my favorite she is a great artist and is very patient with me i go in for alot of last minute work and i can say she has never disappointed. I get consistent headaches, and I came in to get the tragus pierced to help with them. I was extremely nervous. The body piercer, who’s named Biscuit, did such a great job calming my nerves and doing both piercing. He was wonderful. And everyone at the front desk were very helpful and polite. 10/10 in my book. I got my first tattoo there and it came out excellent. I would recommend them to my friends and family. Customer service was excellent and friendly. There was no long wait. I also want to say that Spider did an excellent job. She would have a conversation with you while she is tattooing you.

My husband and I both had tattoos drawn up and done here. They are super different but both are beautiful. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and the organization of the business. There was a hiccup with timing issues, however it was handled by an artist the next day who ultimately secured me as a new customer, for as long as I live in the area. Tim and Aaron did our tattoos and they were both great to work with.

I called ahead, was told to that a piercer was on site and that I could get my piercing. However, I arrived 20 minutes later and was told something totally different. I honestly felt like they just didn’t want to do my piercing.

TERRIBLE experience! I went in to get a piercing and the girl who was doing the piercings was terrible! I waited for over an hour and a half and she kept skipping over me and taking all the people that came in AFTER me because she obviously knew them. I then complained to the manager who told me when she was done he would figure out what was going on. But shortly after telling me that he left on his lunch break. I had to leave because I was late for work and never got my piercing. I have 9 piercings and this was my first time there and by far the worst experience!

We requested Adam because his line work is awesome and were not disappointed! Hes done 3 of our tattoos and is very sweet, calmed me down when I was very nervous.

Took my 17 year old daughter in to get her bellybutton pierced. Very nice shop. First impression I got is that the staff (everyone we dealt with) is very friendly and welcoming. Its a Saturday night, pretty busy, but we still were greeted immediately, and dealt with in a professional manner. The process was easy (paperwork, IDs, etc), and quick. The piercer, Biscuit, was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and had a sense of humor that made us feel comfortable and at ease. The work was executed flawlessly, with after care explained thoroughly. A great experience for my daughters first body piercing (apart from earlobes).

Amazing and accommodating staff. They had unique and out-of-this-world flash sets for black friday. Kind of cramped during special events but they let you know very clearly and honestly how long the wait time is going to be. Clean environment, cool place!

Complete joke of a business establishment. I had an appointment with a “Tattoo artist” here and paid $50.00 as a down payment. The artist goes missing and missed the appointment. He offers to reschedule my appointment for weeks later. Do I get a refund? Definitely not. Complete robbery and that I will discuss with the better business bureau. I wouldn’t refer this place to anyone. Complete jerks when it comes to customer service and returning phone calls.

Waited WAY over an hour. Had a tattoo already planned out and ready for them. There was no toilet paper in the restroom lol. There were literally 4 employees either standing around, watching TV, chit chatting, or walking around the shop back and forth doing absolutely nothing. I came here under the impression that walk ins were welcome, but it seems that walk ins are only welcome to sit down and wait for a ton of time while nothing actually gets done. I feel like a small portion of the fee I paid was almost like rent to sit on their couch and watch Harry Potter. The least they could do is give free WiFi that doesnt require a password to use. My artist was a beautiful Amazonian statue of a woman. Her work was fantastic, and she caused me a ton of wonderful pain. Thank you Jordan, you are amazing at what you do.P.s. by the time this review was posted, they replaced the toilet paper.
