To order this cake I had to send an email and include a few pictures of a design that I wanted. I realize and was told it would not be “exact” but these were their words from the email: “Keep in mind we will make the cake very similar to the picture you sent.” (I included a picture of email here as proof). At one point during the email exchanges I called the store to speak to the designer or whoever makes the designs and was told to email for any changes or questions. I was never able to speak to someone on the phone. The shop is about 50 minutes away from my home so not an easy trek to ask a few questions. Regardless, I trusted the process and on the date of pick went to pick up my cake.I walked in and it looked like the chef was at a small table going over an order with a new client. I went up to the counter and was greeted by a young woman, probably 18 year old. She went to get the cake and brought it out. I opened it and was shocked to see that instead of the modern beautiful cake I was expecting I got something out of 1980. I told the young lady, I was expecting fresh flowers. To which she replied “we don’t work with fresh flowers”. I told her “I wasn’t told that when I requested fresh flowers”. She just looked at me and didn’t say anything. I’ve worked in the service industry and I dislike customers that make scenes or take out their frustration on the wrong person. By this time, the chef had gotten up and disappeared to the back of the shop and since I needed a cake there was nothing to be done and I left with my 1980’s cake. See the pictures.Not only were those sugar flowers ridiculous but the names made of sugar spelled out on the cake platter looked like it was done by a 5yr old. Whoever does the script on the side of the cake needs a steadier hand as it looked quite awful. Most importantly the DRIP WORK needs work..it was chunky and truly did not look professional. The design and look of the cake is 50% of what makes a cake special and the other 50% is taste. The taste was good, nothing out of this world but the guests did not complain. (I got the rum,brandy,sherry pound cake)I have included a picture of my email, Pinterest picture that I sent in as reference and picture of the awful looking cake I got. I also included my remedy, I got home and removed all the scrip, sugar flowers and sugar names...used the back of the cake as the front and loaded it with fresh flowers. Everyone agreed it was 100% better. I rated this cake and bakery two stars for lack of attention to detail, poor customer service and IMO not sure they can create a modern looking cake.

I wanted to purchase a cake from a real bakery for my birthday as a gift to myself. I saw the great reviews Cakes Plus had and I decided to go in person on Thursday to order my cake for Saturday. Chef Mario was very professional and was able to take my order even though it was short notice. He took the time to listen to what I wanted as well as to explain what they had to offer. I had a sample of the pound cake and it was delicious so I decided to go with that for my cake, it was absolutely scrumptious. I asked for a simple cake and he absolutely delivered (I had bought some decorations I wanted to use on it and it looked beautiful). I will definitely be going back for special occasions. I love that they are a family owned business because that is where the magic happens. Thank you Cakes Plus, you made my day extra special.

I cant speak for quality of their ordered cakes, but I had to pick up a cake last minute for a party. I chose to go here because they offer already made refrigerated cakes and from what I saw they are nicely decorated. I paid over $60 for a mediocre tasting, dry, crumbly, hard chocolate cake. I wanted to call and ask was the texture done by design? Is this what people like? Lesson learned everything that glitters isnt gold.

I absolutely love the cupcakes and cookies at Cakes Plus. They are so moist, delicious and not too sweet. The cookies are great as well. My friends also have nothing but good things to say about the cupcakes. I havent been in the store in a while, but I will be back. Thank you also to everyone who works at Cakes Plus. Of course, I had to sample to make my final decision. So many decisions, its sure different than others. It has an amazing flavor surely doesnt give you that over powering sugar rush. I was in search of a Strawberry flavored cake with Strawberry icing. My sons request for his B-day. So of course in true guy fashion I wait until the last minute. And much to my amazement, strawberry cakes are not the norm on the last day of September, apparently something called pumpkin is....who knew.Anyway my brother recommended Cakes Plus in Tampa, and boom, they didn’t have a strawberry cake either, but what they did have is individually packaged strawberry flavored, strawberry icing cupcakes. This place had the best cakes in Tampa. I grew up eating cakes like this in Puerto Rico, and I always looked for a recipe or a place that made these. The pound cake is to die for. They use an icing that had almond extract (they will use vanilla if requested)

When you walk into this place, you feel at home. Like at your aunt and uncles who want to make sure you have everything you need. They are just warm people and I know that God will continue to bless them and their business. I mention these things first because they are what is most important to me. Secondly, the communication was great and my cake was ready when they said it would be. I purchased a cake for my best friends 32nd birthday and it is BEAUTIFUL. Just what I asked for and more. I know it will taste delicious because the wife gave me a sample of pound cake that was BOMB and she made me a latte that taste AMAZING. I love them, I will be back for more. :)

I was completely disappointed with a call I made to inquire about ordering a custom cake. I will be coming into town in June and I asked to talk to someone about make cake. The girl that answered the phone said I would need to come in or send an email with what I want the cake to look like. I tried explaining I had an idea but not the particulars, that I lived out of state and couldnt come in and couldnt draw. I asked if I could speak to someone about my idea that I was not creative. She said no there was nothing they could do if I didnt come in or send a picture of what I wanted. This is the first time I have ever encountered a custom cake maker that wasnt willing to discuss what I was looking for and give me ideas. This lady didnt even want to know if it was birthday, graduation or anything else.

A little disappointed. I picked up my cake today and upon closer inspection it was not very well done. The cake was not very smooth and the leaves look cheap, have cracks and have white specks on them. We paid a lot of money for this cake and when my husband went in to talk them about it and they just said that the cake looked fine and we couldnt get any sort of refund without giving up the cake completely.

Cakes Plus original pound cake is AMAZING. My favorite cake anywhere. Purchased one for all our family birthdays each year. We moved away from Tampa last year, but when we returned for a visit, stopped here just to buy a cake. Delicious!

The atmosphere walking in was welcoming and wonderful. Splendid detail on the Studio Ghibli themed cake. Cakes look good. Tastes too sweet. I got cakes from here twice. And we only used the cake to cut and celebrate birthday. We did not eat at least 1/4th of the cake.

They made this cake for me back in August, had not had a chance to post review. The owner is a really cool guy. I actually had to cancel the cake order and move by a week from original date I requested. There was no fees for the reschedule. It was made for a boy-girl birthday he did awesome on both tiers. Even had a real strawberry filling between the layers. I asked for Paw Patrol theme and it was spot on !! I added the characters to cake because of copy right stuff. All the kids loved it !!

CakesPlusTampa made a cake for my husbands birthday! The design was as we imaged but what really put the icing on the cake was how delicious the cake was! It was soooooooo moist! My daughter and I stumbled on to Cakes Plus while looking for a baker to do a specialty cake for her baby shower. All of the decorations are our own, however the tiered Zebra and Giraffe is what they created for us. The cake was delicious, moist and a unique flavor. We had her party outside at a park. As you can tell the cake held up quite nicely in Florida heat!!!! Every single person at the party LOVED the cake. I barely had leftovers. Thank you again Cakes Plus!

WORST BRIDES NIGHTMARE!I wish I could be as happy as all of the other brides that had the wedding cake of their dreams. For me I will have to live with the bad memory of my wedding cake for the rest of my life. My mom and I are very passionate about cakes and when the time came to look for the most important cake of my life we looked for the best cakes designers in Tampa. After looking at vthe amazing reviews about Cakes Plus Tampa, and looking at the pictures on their website we decided to check them out and taste the cakes. Flavor was amazing and the sketch that Chef Mario did was exactly what we were looking for. But the day of my wedding came, and what a dissapointment! The cake pipping was horrible, the fondant was sloppy, the cascade orchids were not centralized and the decorations were all crooked, uneven and just a mess. Not even one guest mention anything about my cake, I guess it was that bad. We paid $1,400 to Cakes Plus for a custom, high end cake and we received a mediocre cheap looking one.We couldnt change the fact that my wedding cake was ruined forever, but we thought it wasnt fair for us to pay the price of a high end cake and received a lower quality one. So we gave Cakes Plus a chance to make things right for us and made our request of half of our money back, but Chef Mario thought that $300 was fair enough for ruining my dream cake.( He gave the cake a value of $1,100) I guess they dont value high quality well enough. Im including some pictures of the cake so you can be the judge of their work. I dont wish any bride to go over such a bad experience, if you dont want to risk the most important cake of your life stay away from Cakes Plus Tampa.

I just want to say how EMBARRASED i am and how unprofesional this was.I ordered a cake with a week of anticipation. The girl who took my order was very nice.Tottal value of my order was $148.00 i was reinbursed thanks God. I sent a picture of the actual cake i wanted, very specific with the details. When i pick up the cake a week later it was a dissaster. The girls brought out the cake and placed it on the counter and you could tell on their faces that they were surprized on how awful it looked. The first picture is the idea of the cake with out the candy. Second picture is the cake done by Cakes plus on S Dalemabry. I was very upset, The owner came out and spoke to me and tried to tell me that she saw nothing wrong with the cake. I mean is obvious on how terrible this cake looked. She then proceded to offer me a discount and tried to sell it to me for $100. I looked at her and said. I am sorry but this cake looks like my 5 yeard old daughter made it. Keep in mind that the party was ruined because the whole concept of the birthday party is the CAKE!!! Specially the decortions were supposed to be black and gold.I am very dissapointed. I will never go back to Cakes Plus.

Came in on a whim with my brother on a Saturday morning. We had Cuban sandwiches, coffee, and some of the pound cake, caramelized in a pan with some cream. All was absolutely delicious, prices reasonable, and Nina and Mario were very kind and attentive. We followed their recommendations and werent disappointed! The other cakes and cookies looked amazing too - we will have to try those next time.

Hidden gem for sure. My boyfriend brought home a cupcake, mini cake, whatever they may call it and it was to die for!!! We were even able to share it! Now he’s screwed for life as he knows every time he goes in he has to bring something home for me!

The cake was awesome tasting but it smelled really funny in there to me. Not quite sure what it was except it smelled like an old house with mildew.

I had forgotten to order my daughter’s wedding shower cake and went to Cakes Plus almost in tears since this was Friday and the shower is on Sunday. I was greeted by helpful staff showing me what they had availabile on such short notice. Again, I was downhearted because the cakes, nice as they are, were no where near what they usually design for me. I wandered around trying to think how I could upgrade the cake when Mario asked if he could help. I cannot tell you how relived I was when he said can you trust us to do something for you in her colors. I excitedly said yes. My husband and I picked this up today. In just hours Anastasia decorated cakes they had in the back. You guys rock!

Looks like a nice place, and they have a lot of products, however, when it comes to cake supplies, this place is a RIPOFF! I went to purchase a 14 cake box among other things, and they wanted FOURTEEN DOLLARS for ONE BOX! Must be a JOKE lol. Then, they had the nerve to have some plain regular cardboard boxes, and wanted $8.00 for those!!! I guess people in that area dont know the difference. Brendas cake supplies in west Tampa is MUCH more reasonable. Only gave it a second star because they have a large inventory, and the pastries looked good, but Ill spend my money elsewhere.

The cakes look beautiful but taste horrible! I sampled a slice & noted it was salty. I asked that they be careful and not make my moms cake salty. The cake was not only salty, after cutting we noticed it was lopsided and was not fully made. It was kinda like she let an elementary school child make it. That was a truly horrendous cake. We were so disgusted. My mom still has nightmares talking about it and she says: Dont you ever! bring me anything from there again. I was so embarrassed.

The best tasting cake in Tampa. Nina Torres is a true artist, and I have never seen a poorly decorated cake. These cakes are worth every penny, and I drive almost 45 minutes each way for them. If you cant order two weeks in advance, call ahead and see if they have some in the cooler. You may not be able to pick your favorite colours on the pre made ones, but they are still beautiful and taste just as good.

My mother bought me my birthday cake from Cake plus for the first time last year and everyone fell in love. The staff there are very welcoming and helpful and the owner is a very kind lady.

Wayyyyy overpriced. Im a pastry chef, and sole proprietor of a bakery/sweetshop, so I purchase supplies ALL THE TIME, online, and in stores. So I know what is within reason when it comes to price. This place is a ripoff! lol. I went to buy some cake boxes 14 with lid, and cake boxes arent cheap...but FOURTEEN DOLLARS for ONE, you gotta be freakin kidding me. lol, and then as a cheaperalternative, they were selling regular flat, brown cardboard boxes for NINE dollars (for ONE!!!)...and they stayed right there. Its disappointing because they looked like they had some nice items I wanted to try, but I dont want to pay half a stimulus check for a cake, Thanks.

Found this place by accident after we had a terrible experience next door at California Tacos. I did not realize they served food. Had the most awesome cuban sandwich and cupcake and their coffee (and coffee menu) is awesome. I am not a baker so i would never have normally gone in here but i will be back, the owner is a super sweet friendly lady who takes some time to chat with you. They dont have a huge food menu but it seems what they do they do good!

I called every bakery in Tampa to find someone to make some Petit Fours for my wife’s birthday. She loves Petit Fours and the ones available at Publix are ok, but not authentic. Mario at Cakes Plus was the only cake maker who said “absolutely we can make them.” And he didn’t disappoint. They were phenomenal! Melt in your mouth fresh, and as good as any we have had in New York, San Fran and other big city bakeries. I highly recommend Mario for your cakes. Thank you Mario for making this birthday special!

Wonderful cakes and people. I visited for the first time last month. My sister and I stopped in to check out the selection and tried the cannoli and pound cake, which were both heavenly. When I got home I realized I left my purse there. I was in a panic because I had over $500 cash, bank cards, IDs, etc... basically my whole life was in that purse. When I called to ask about it, they had turned it over to the police for me to keep it safe. I was able to get my purse back the same day with everything in it. Its not easy to find honest people these days. Thank you all at Cakes Plus for the delicious treats and for being honest and caring people.

The cupcakes tasted like they were a week old. We didnt finish them. I bought four different flavors and none of them had any labels. I wouldnt complain if they were cheap but $5 cupcakes shouldnt taste like stale brownie bites.The clerk wasnt unfriendly but it took her about 5 minutes to stop playing with what I assume were her siblings to help me. The place is outdated and definitely not an upscale type of place or suitable for upscale clientele.

This is by far my favorite place to purchase cakes. I have been a loyal customer since 2000. My family knows to only by my favorite Puerto Rican poncake from Cale Plus! I even had my grooms cake made here. I drive from Riverview just to satisfy my craving. They make the most delicious moist cakes in Tampa Bay.

Awful customer service experience. I had an appointment for 7/22/17 at 11:30am. This was for a wedding cake tasting/consultation. I arrived a few minutes early and was taken to the back appointment room and told that they would be with me shortly. 45 minutes had passed and not one person came in..no Im sorry were running behind or is there anything we can do while you wait NOTHING. I decided I didnt want to give this type of costumer service my business and I got up and walked to the front of the store to leave..three women at the front still had no words Lol. Poor service and would never recommend them especially for something so important, like a wedding!

Horrible place to purchase a cake. My fiancé and I paid 650 dollars for a cake and delivery plus 24 cupcakes. We were expecting perfection. Instead Chef Mario presented us with a mediocre cake on the day of our event. Unfortunately we had no choice but to take the cake with it’s cracking fondant and juvenile design. He knew we were unhappy with the cake and tried to not address it. My fiancé had to go back inside and say something since I was sitting in the car practically in tears over the appearance of the cake. I am a certified event designer and a certified floral designer and I was so embarrassed that I had to present this cake at my event. He gave my fiancé back 100 dollars and had an attitude about it. Neglecting to realize that he ruined the main attraction on our dessert table. We made the mistake of not asking to see the cupcakes because we were so overwhelmed with the look of the cake. When the cupcakes arrives they looked as if a blind trainee had iced them and he also put a cheap gelatin filling in our cupcakes even though when we met with him we specified that we did not want that as neither of us were a fan. We had high hopes for this cake and for chef Mario. When I emailed him after the event about how dissatisfied I was with the look of the cake and the cupcakes icing and filling I got no response. He is a horrible business owner and has poor business ethics. I will never purchase from this place again and will make sure none of my friends or clients get cakes from this mediocre poorly run establishment.

I spent an unusual amount of time looking for a Snickers flavored cake for my fathers 60th birthday (on Sat. July 13th). Apparently, it was a lot harder to find than I originally expected and I was running out of time. I asked a close friend who works in hospitality if she could recommend anywhere new for me to call. I called Cakes Plus on Tues. July 9th. I realized I was asking for a lot -- to pick up a cake on Fri. July 12th. Granted, I didnt want a fancy cake with fondant or tiers or some crazy decorations, but not only did they meet my expectations, they exceeded my expectations. I picked up the cake at 10am on Friday and not only was it bigger than we discussed but it was, in fact, decorated beautifully with chocolate drips, frosting peaks and Snickers pieces. Chef Mario was a dream to talk to on the phone. He let me explain my situation and didnt hesitate for a second or say something like, It will be difficult, but... He just did it. The cake was amazing, and the character of Chef Mario was even better. I am so pleased and so thankful. Thank you so much Cakes Plus.

They have a lot of supplies to help with your banking needs. They also have pre- made flowers you can purchase for your cakes as well.
