We’re so lucky to have found this gem of a place! I came here with my sister and we had chicken tajine, Jollof rice and Jackfruit and fonio (my favorite). Everybody was very kind and welcoming. It is a fun and colorful atmosphere. The shop has clothing jewelry, spices, tea, soap and so much more. I picked up some spices and was counseled on the many different uses. We also grabbed the jollof rice kit which was a big hit when we prepared it and brought it to a family gathering. Can’t wait to go back!

This is probably my favorite restaurant in Tally. I’m not a fan of Tally and what I most love about this restaurant is that when I’m there I don’t feel like I’m in Tally! I’m from Miami and I’m vegan and the vegan options in Tally aren’t nearly as healthy or numerous as what’s available in SoFl. Bryan is a polyglot, as am I, as are many people in SoFl, so this makes me smile and makes me feel like I’m not in Tally since I can speak to him in languages other than English. He’s so friendly and explains all the things on the menu, not just from a culinary standpoint but also from a cultural standpoint and I enjoy learning from him. I absolutely love the popping flavors at Halisi, who knew guava and habanero went so well together? They do! I’ve been there twice now and can’t wait to go again. Everything I’ve had (I think I’ve tried 8 different food dishes and who knows how many juices/teas) has been awesome and all the flavor combinations are truly ones that you won’t find anywhere else even close to Tally. It’s a long drive from Tally to find Ethiopian, Tanzanian, or other African food. Every bite is like a party in your mouth. Some of the flavors pop immediately while other ones linger in your mouth producing a wonderful aftertaste. While it’s not a vegan or vegetarian place, they have lots of great options for everyone, even omnivores. The energy and vibe in the restaurant is really great and the chairs are super comfortable. I like the African music they play and the walls are painted in a way that really adds to the atmosphere. Do yourself a favor and go! But go when you aren’t in a rush because this is a restaurant to savor, and enjoy and learn.

Unfortunately no pics, but yall should check out halisi in railroad square, a superb and affordable African restaurant!Five star all the way. Great service. Homemade chapati and injera. Chapati wrap with rice and cilantro, tomato, cucumber salsa, but the salsa had a swahili name. Choice of protein for wrap, I had jackfruit. I also get to chose flavor. If I remember they have tagine, a guava flavor, coconut curry, berbereque (bbq with Ethiopian berbere... Brilliant), and what I had, sahara heat. I recognized tagine and sahara heat flavors are seasoned with the famous ras al hanout and harissa spices, respectfully.... Which is awesome...My comrade had chicken pelau, rice and chicken with tagine flavor. It was amazing and wonderfully presented.Nothing ritzy just affordable and delicious food here. Now the drinks, superb. They have senegalese cafe touba which I have always wanted to try, and I have also always wanted baobab fruit juice and they had it. Its ice cold, sweet, and slightly astringent and topped with a splash of I think ginger juice, but I could be wrong. They also have egyptian guava juice that I am itching to try, and hibiscus juice, Haitian roast coffee and Tanzanian style chai.Anyway the baobab juice went perfect with the spices, food, and it wasnt overly spicy. It was all delicious.I and we will be back and will both bring others. Thanks

Halisi is AMAZING! The owner is very kind and motherly. This week I dropped by and bought a gorgeous south African Jasper pendant, African curry seasoning which is delicious (I put it in my lentil soup) and I also tried the Egyptian Guava drink which was also very delicious. I love how insightful the owner is and very welcoming when introducing new flavors and taste. They sell beautiful clothing, jewelry, spices and their African black soap is the best. The owner also plays the most FYE music from African Musicians!

We ended up getting two spice packets, a pair of earrings, a pair of sandals, and some of their baboa tea. Definitely recommend going to check this place out, I know Ill be going back.

We visited Tallahasse this past weekend and tasted the delicious dishes of Halisi. One of the staff helped us select from the menu the most wonderful, flavorful chicken and salmon. Can’t recommend highly enough.

I stumbled upon this place exploring the Railroad Square art district. This store was absolutely stunning, all of the pieces they sell were beautifully unique. A very kind and friendly salesperson helped me through picking out a piece I was absolutely in love with, and informed me all of the pieces were made by independent designers based in Africa, how freaking cool is that? When I saw the price tag I couldn’t believe it was for both pieces of my two-piece set rather than just a single piece! As someone who shops (primarily European) designer fashion from time to time, for something as stunning as this and of this creative quality, I’d expect to pay at least 5X-10X the price they had here.We also bought a cool African spice kit with very unique spices I’ve never tried before, and we’re so excited to try them in our cooking!Definitely looking forward to coming back and purchasing more clothing pieces for my friends and loved ones! This is definitely my favorite clothing spot in Tallahassee now and arguably one of my faves in the world!
