What a fun place to have a look around in or score a cool instrument you didn’t know you needed.
Great place, purchased my dream Jazzmaster here. Always a great atmosphere! 👍🏻
One of the best ways to enjoy misic in Tacoma. A great shop full of amazing instruments and great service.
I purchased a guitar online from Guitar Maniacs and was very pleased with the experience. My guitar was shipped from Washington to Texas with no damage. They treated my relatively inexpensive guitar as though it was one of their best and for that I appreciate this shop and will certainly purchase my next guitar and future equipment from them.
TLDR: Didn’t treat my bass with respect, and didn’t fix the problem I brought it in for. Overcharged for what they did do.I bought a new (unbranded) jazz bass for only $15 because it had a problem with the pickups. From what I could tell, they were out of phase and needed to be rewired. I didn’t know how to do it myself, so I took it to Guitar Maniacs to troubleshoot and fix it. I also had them do a setup and new strings. They did the setup, but didn’t fix the pickups. When I asked what they did to fix them, I was told that the wires were soldered correctly, and if it sounded bad it’s because it’s a cheap guitar, and I shouldn’t expect much. When I got home it still had the problem, so I did some searching online and figured out how to fix it myself. It sounds great now - even better than I expected. On the upside I now know how a bass guitar is wired. On the other hand I don’t appreciate having my gear denigrated and dismissed just because it was cheap. The setup is fine, but it wasn’t worth the $99 I paid for it.
Always Loved this store. Great gear. One of the very few stores that will have vintage Gibson and vintage Fender on the wall...and let you play them. I played a 1960 Les Paul Burst there. Rick King, the owner of the store and the Les Paul, is a musician first. I get a good feeling when i step inside. Check the place out.
Aptly named and I love it! Some of the instruments in here are pretty far out from far gone time periods and some are just beautiful. Lots of pieces with stories. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It’s worth checking out, but if you play you might find a really sweet deal as well because the owner is a talented buyer for quality vintage.
The bestest
Five stars the best around
Ive been going to this place for quite awhile and they are the best. Buy, sell and cosign. They have the best new equipment and cheap guitars, amps, effects and everything else. Plus they charge less for a set of strings than anywhere else. But the main thing is they are just good people and also play. Dont miss this place.
I found a near perfect example of a rare guitar at this shop. They shipped it all the way across the country to me in almost no time. The guitar arrived with a perfect setup and CLEAN! I am a full time guitar repair man working in New York city. This guitar exceeded my expectations! Couldnt be happier with my experience dealing with Rick and his staff! THANK YOU!
Awesome shop, I have come here for over a decade. Many sought-after guitars, amps, and equipment here.
Love this place, my only wish is that they would stay open until 7 - long enough for me to stop by for an impulse purchase after work!!
A real guitar shop and the best service... Johnny knows his stuff!
Friendly and helpful
Great shop, some of the best musicians in the world have shopped here, Kurt Cobain purchased some of the gear that gave him his signature sound at this place. I whole heartedly recommend!
The name of Rick King is legendary and speaks for itself when it comes to legends in the rock world buying his equipment. Definitely your go-to man for whatever gear shortage ails you.
Great staff, great gear. Perfect spot to find that hidden gem.
Great staff and nice selection of used and new guitars
Cool store with many one of a kind guitars, albeit pricey, but it is what is expected. The owner was very engaging.
Not a welcoming place. I went in to see if they wanted to buy my guitar, the employee I spoke to acted like he didnt want me there. He told me they had plenty of Stratocasters and didnt have much money in the cash register to give me for it anyway. Not very professional. I ended up selling to Guitar Center. Maybe they are cool if you are there to buy but I wouldnt recommend going if you want to sell.
I have been buying gear here since I was 10 years old and will always continue. The jewel of Tacoma.
Great environment. Fun store. Beautiful equipment ans super chill employees
Helpful and nice. Unfortunately didnt have what I needed but was looking for something specific.
Great shop! Very friendly staff. Sat and talked for a while! Would recommend!
Excellent little shop, mostly for guitarists but with a few little goodies for synths too. I love this store.
The only place to go for true musicians/artists/humans with an appreciation for authenticity.
Fantastic spot to visit, even if youre not a guitar player. Owner is friendly, and honest.
I judge a merchant not by how well he is doing when everything goes smooth and easy, but what happens when there is a problem. There was a problem I had with an online purchase from Guitar Maniacs. I was apprehensive when I had to bring it up. Guess what: not only did I never hear any push back or excuse, but the store also refunded my return shipping in addition to the four-figure purchase price. THAT kind of attitude will make me come back for more. Class act!
I love this place. As a vintage guitar enthusiast and collector, I love to come and check on the inventory at Guitar Maniacs every so often. They have so many intetesting and cool guitars, effects, amplifiers and random musical gear in their atore at any given time. It truly is like a scavenger hunt every time I go in for a visit. A must see amd go to for any respectable guitarist to visit. You wont be let down by the selection and helpfulness of the down to earth owner and employees. Best little guitar shop in the area. For sure.
Love this place for vintage guitars and gear.
I called, they answered but then after asking my question they just stayed silent. I called again and the same person answered and acted as if I was going to leave a voice mail. 😤🙄
A modest selection of guitars with helpful staff and a great view.
Good guitars good people good selection . I have Purchased multiple guitars from this shop and will continue to do so.
Great guitars and has a very homie feel to the place
Best Guitar Techs in local are...thanks Corey and Johnnie
Good prices. Vintage equipment. Knowledagble, friendly staff!
I was in today and needed some 250 k tone pots was told they was $3 then other guy said $6.50I seen a bunch of used ones I asked about how much those are and he told me:“They don’t sell used pots cause they save them for repairs!!!”I would not recommend this place after that info.
