Great place to play and purchase card supplies. However the cost of their sealed MTG product is on average $50 to $60 over market value. Understand they need to make a profit but their well outside of actually selling boxes when it’s easy purchasing these items through other companies.
Great Pokemon card selection - in the glass case and in the binder as well. Fairly priced and updated regularly. My family loves stopping by every couple of weeks to buy a few new cards to strengthen their decks and collections. Maria is always so friendly.
I have been coming to this store for years and finally writing a review. The store is consistently friendly, diverse, and inclusive. I always see people from different walks of life laughing and having a good time, the energy and atmosphere is very positive. No store can have everything, but if they cant order it for you they will even recommend other places if you need it today. They have great prices and lots of unique and interesting things for a bunch of hobbies and games. It can be pretty busy in there at times but dont be afraid to ask for help, their staff is very capable and diligent.
The atmosphere of this game store is very inviting. You can find a number of games being played here in a non judgemental environment. Employees are both knowledgeable and friendly. If youre a tabletop gamer in the northern Virginia area, this place is a great hangout.
Great card shop! The people that frequent there are friendly and fun to play with. The employees are very nice, accommodating, and helpful. They typically have items you’re looking for. If not, they do everything they can to help you. If you’re looking for a great place to hang, chill, and play some games. You should definitely go there!
This is a wonderful place to shop for cards(especially Pokémon)! I visited the shop for the first time with my fiancé and was welcomed kindly by the staff before we wandered the store. We looked through the stacks of cards, binders, and even the display case for cards missing in our collection. I definitely left with more than I expected to and was pleasantly surprised to see how much I found there. The staff was extremely helpful and patient despite the fact that she was the only one there closing and was running games for the other patrons. I had a great time and will definitely be returning in the near future :)
Excellent inventory of Magic cards, packs, and play accessories. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
Great community for MTG and really good single selection. Management is very caring for the community and has even tried working with other store management in northern va, which is really rare to see. Only thing con i would say is the play space is slightly small for how popular their FNMs are, but still 5 stars overall!
10/10 the best gaming shop in NOVA! I tried a couple other spots before finding curio cavern and they just dont compare! I personally visit Curio for their Thursday Night game night, and sometimes with my friends to play quick games of MTG. The shop is always clean and inviting, and the staff are very knowledgeable! If they dont know the answer to your question, they go out of their way to find it. The crowd on game nights is also phenomenal. Everyone is super friendly, and harassment or negativity isnt tolerated! I definitely recommend Curio if youre looking for a shop to call home!
Went in to check the store out. Happened to see a card I was interested in. Marked price was $55 so I told them I would take it. They then go on the computer tell me market has changed so they have to do $200. False advertisement at its finest and a store looking to take advantage of people because they see someone wants something. If price fluctuates on specific items in your store don’t have a price marked on the item. Trash customer service!
I went in here to see if they had any Pokémon TCG products and they did. I purchased a ETB from them and when I opened the box the packs inside looked tampered and resealed. I gave them a benefit of the doubt and opened them and got nothing not even a single holo. I am disappointed that a place like this would sell resealed Pokémon packs. I DONT RECOMMEND going here unless you like getting ripped off. Unbelievable.
Phenomenal little shop. The people working were incredibly charismatic and friendly, and were so helpful finding the cards I was looking for. I was visiting from out of town, and I cant recommend them enough for townies or tourists. They also carry an extended gamegenic assortment, which is rare for LGS back home.I look forward to shopping here again soon!
My kids and I love this place ....this is a weekly stop.
This store was extremely helpful when I came in. It has been years since Ive played and they were very generous with the amount of assistance they gave me. They explained everything I asked and did their best to set me up with a deck I would feel confident using.
Awesome place. Incredibly clean. Very friendly staff. Happy people are actively playing board games in the back.Miniatures are focused on Star Wars and Warhammer. Paints are warhammer only with some army painter spray cans.Lots of card game stuff. Per the norm for stores like this.Beholders are priced at 9.00, which is... slightly sus.
Ok so this seemed like a nice card shop and I went in to buy some booster packs. I bought 5 and they all had a green code card and I got zero good cards. I was suspicious of this so I went home to compare the packaging to my booster packs from target and I noticed many differences. Then I searched online and I found out the packs yall sold me WERE FAKE. These were fake booster packs. The packaging was very shiny which was one red flag and the other was how thin and easy to open it was. There were many other red flags but those were the big ones. I’m very disappointed
This store is one of the best card shops in the area. always trying to make sure the community is being helped out and best of all they are for the kids and NOT the despicable resellers
I love Curio, friendly staff and customers, fair prices, good location. Only gripe is its a little cramped for games/table space.
Came here with my brother to pick out singles, at the time we were in the store we were the only customers physically inside and we had a couple cards picked out that we wanted to buy but didn’t really know there inventory. Great selection of cards btw but the service is awful. The young gentleman asked me if I brought a list of cards so he can grab them for me so he can focus on other customer orders. In all fairness he was the only person on site and just seemed really overworked and his attitude came out and was very negative. All in all an ok place to be if you like getting rushed.
Small, well-stocked game shop. MTG, Warhammer, D&D, and much more! We love stopping in and seeing whats new.
My friends and I bought about 12-15 pokemon booster packs altogether & no good pulls (all green code cards) which is very sketchy. Also the single pokemon cards they sell don’t have a set price, they look it up on the computer first to give you the highest price possible.
Very friendly staff and the prices are fair. They have a great schedule of games and selection of gaming items.
Nice atmosphere but the games are $LOLWTF to play
Poor customer service. The person who helped me was rude and it felt like pulling teeth to have him look up 3-4 card prices.
Ive been to play MTG a few times and I buy a lot of stuff from them. Prices seem to be on the higher side for singles of what you can get online, but card shops are what keeps Paper MTG alive, so I prefer to buy from them when I can.Their sealed product however is rarely marked up, and in my experiences is average or cheaper than online - I get the sense they prefer keeping their customers coming back rather than scalping them.Shop is small but they have plenty of table space for playing games, and their customer service is pretty good. You can message them on discord or Facebook and they can pull singles for you so you dont have to wait in the store.
Cool little game and hobby store
The place is amazing. Staff is super friendly and they have a lot of products ranging from magic the gathering to dungeons and dragons to warhammer 40k. The community they’ve built is also wonderful and the location is just perfect being near a pizza place and not to far from the mall. They also sell snacks and drinks themselves which is amazing.
Well rounded store. Wonderful employees that are always welcome to help. I collect Pokémon cards and wasn’t really up to date on upcoming releases however not only did the people here inform me on the upcoming shiny fates they made it super easy to get my hands on some reasonable priced ETB’s netting me some nice pulls. (Shiny VMAX CHARIZARD)Definitely good to call ahead of time as it is a small store so browsing with multiple people can be a little bit of a struggle. But alas it is a TCG based store so personal browsing will always be the more efficient route if you were looking for any specific cards.
Friendly staff made a lot of good friends playing here and love the place
I use the store for MTG cards but 90 percent of the time they dont have what Im looking for in stock when i message them before going to the store. The issue is multiple times Ive actually just gone to the store afterwards regardless to have a look and end up finding the card in their display case etc. You guys would highly benefit from a digital inventory system. Recently I went in and asked one of your employees for a card they turned around looked in a box for like 2 seconds and said nope we dont have it....it took me 3 seconds to find it in the glass case. When you have so much competition with online card stores, especially during COVID times, i would think youd wanna try harderregardless, it hasnt stopped me from spending about 2k at your shop over the last year xD
Great store, wonderful and friendly staff, and cool regulars. I have been visiting this place since I moved here and would highly recommend this store for Magic the Gathering events and singles! I go for Modern and Pauper once or twice a month (when I have time off of my busy work schedule) and I am never disappointed with the turnout or facility! Convenient location too. 10/10 would recommend.
I havent been here in three years but, no shop has ever come close when compared to the dozen or so Ive been to. Tom really cares about his customers and it shows. More like a family than a regular business. Their business practices are fair and honest without question. I miss the fun times and will be in the area soon. Im gonna walk in and I bet these guys remember me. Respect!!
Excellent stock of collectible card games and accessories. Staff was very helpful and friendly, and was able to not only answer all of my questions but ensure that I had an inviting experience as a first-time customer. Will definitely return!
Curio Cavern is to its core your Friendly Local Game Store (FLGS). The moment you walk in youre greeted like a friend and not a person with money to give to them. They will help you with products and reviews on what they know, and will try to find info on perhaps something they may not know.As someone who left his FLGS of 10 years in Raleigh...it felt a little bit like home.Thats a hard feeling to fake.
First time going there amazing selection and great staff. One employee took the time to help me out learning more just about the game itself not even inquiring on product. 6 out of 5
Love this place! They have a little bit (or sometimes, a LOT) of something for everyone, from D&D to Magic to WH40k and more, as well as almost any other thing you may need or want. Whats cool too is that if they dont have something youd like to buy there, they can usually get it! Plenty of cool dice to choose from, odds and ends for basing your models as well as a full range of GW paints. Everything here is reasonably priced and the staff are super nice and welcoming. They also allow you to game and paint inside the shop and there are other events and things too. Some of that may be limited currently due to Covid obviously but thats completely understandable. You really dont see many hobby/war gaming type shops around anymore, at least not around here, so its refreshing to have a place like Curio. I have been frequenting Curio since getting back into D&D and painting late last year, and still love coming back even after moving farther away. Please stop in and support them!
Great place to pick up magic singles! Staff is very helpful and they almost always have what Im looking for.
Great time playing pickup games of EDH, played some of that Final Fantasy Card Game, bought some MTG cards and some snacks
Amazing place, and very good selection of mtg cards. The guy that works there is very knowledgeable and gives A+ service. This is why everyone should support their LGS. 👍
I have been to a lot of game stores, but none of them come close to the service and knowledge that Curio Caverns has! I did not know a lot of people here, so I was skeptical to play magic here. However, I immediately found great people to play with and the staff here has offered me the service and advice needed to become a better player. Experienced or new to any trading card game, this store has it all with very competitive prices! Location is great and the mall and other restaurants are close by, so you never have to go far for food. Overall best game shop and glad I have become a regular patron of this shop!!!
Great local shop, I use it primarily for D&D books and minis
Curio is a great place for regulars to the store. They put on well-run, regular events for Magic, X-Wing, Guild Ball, and other games. They have open space to play or try out board games, along with snacks to purchase. The staff is quiet, but friendly. The board game section has been reorganized and, while small, has a great selection. When events are in full swing, it can get a bit intimidating from the amount of bodies. The regulars are a great bunch of people and are welcoming to newcomers.
Not a fan. Besides having good prices, I felt rushed purchasing the dual lands in standard. I came in looking to spend roughly 300 dollars on lands. I asked her if lands from older sets like isolated chapel were usable in standard and she said no which was incorrect. I found out later. Then seemed frustrated after I asked for several kinds of land sets. I just bought partial land sets and left. I dont plan to use this store again. Id rather pay higher prices than deal with a bothered employee. If anyone else has any recommendations let me know. But this store is blacklisted in my book.
Great store for magic. Good legacy crowd. Nice cards and old packs. Friendly staff and great selection. Right off the highway.
Great atmosphere. This location is focused on playing games and it shows - the part of the Curio Cavern reserved for merchandise occupies maybe 10% of the total space? The rest of the square footage is dedicated to tables used to play all sorts of games. I visited for the X-Wing Miniatures tournament that starts every Tuesday at 1800 - Friendly, enthusiastic crowd that felt very welcoming for new comers.
Good stuff. Small space
Great locally owned board game store!Great selection of Card Games and Board Games! His prices are mostly really reasonable, but there are occasionally some that are a bit high. They host several competitions throughout the week, Magic, X-Wing, etc.
Awesome store, has pretty much any tabletop gaming need you would have. also has a great Magic selection. Plenty of room to play in store as well( i know from experience). The staff is also incredibly helpful and polite.
I visited this location multiple times and really enjoy the staff product selection and overall knowledge
I think this place is actually pretty cool however I can empathize for some of the negative reviews. I wanted to give the shop a fair chance and I have to say, it wouldnt hurt to be a little more professional.Despite the store promoting a relaxed environment, you cant be too relaxed as you are still a business. If you dont take yourselves seriously why should I? Wear a cool company shirt or design something in uniform so new customers can recognize the employees apart from the customers. No name tags does not suffice... have a dress code. Are your staff members not proud to be working for a unique hobby shop like this that it would kill them to wear a curio cavern t shirt? If your not going to wear anything signifying your employment atleast greet customers at the door and tell them that they will be helped. It is unprofessional to play a game of magic on the glass counter where the products are and not say anything to me when I walk in. I talked to a rude customer who I thought was an employee and that could have been prevented if the owner or staff would take uniform advice more seriously. Its not my job to investigate who the employees are and the staff needs to learn when to separate business from play time. Customers are more important than your magic game that can continue after you help people who give you new business, unless you only cater to an exclusive crowd. The positives I would say is the x wing selection is the best Ive seen in the area, once I did get the attention of the employees they were enthusiastic and very willing to help. I had all my questions answered and noticed the excellent selection of board games. I like the design and feel of the shop despite its small size, it has character. Just remember, professionalism is key and you all need to work on that.
Great experience! The guy there was very patient and helpful.
Great store! The most person I see working there most often is Tom, and he is always extra helpful to everyone there. The events are fun and well organized, as well as extremely open to new players. The other players there are also usually pretty nice and love to see new people get into the game. The store offers movie nights on occasion, and there are always snacks, drinks, and of course, mtg cards for sale.
I spent too much money here
Everyone there was so very helpful and friendly! I walked in not knowing what to get my boyfriend who ruined a box of his magic cards and they pointed me to a few suggestions of what I should get. They also knew him by name and because of that had a better idea of what I should get him
This place has almost never not had a specific card I was looking for (MTG). They have probably over 100k commons you can browse through, and a great selection of board games and some table top gaming supplies. The staff is also knowledgeable and personable. They host events FNM/draft/etc events, but I havent attended any.Id definitely recommend this store.
Very helpful staff who will happily order products if they dont have them in stock. The owner regularly puts his customers first, and as a result, has loyal, regular customers. Find a variety of games and participate in store run tournaments.
If youre looking for board games, card games, or dice games, this is your best bet. The employees are helpful and easy to approach. Theyre open late, which a big plus for me!
I do not come here often, but every time I do it is very crowded and difficult to really shop here. That being said I stopped in today for some card sleeves and a case. The store was out of stock on the KMC perfect fit sleeves and only had one pack of the KMC ultra mat sleeves. Tons of shelf space dedicated to inferior products, yet the best reviewed products (KMC) are an afterthought. A lot of merchandise is missing prices, which for a retailer is not good practice. Try to support the local gaming store but when you are out of stock I have to go online.
Where do I begin? Curio Caverns is the best game store I have ever been to! The owner and staff are truly amazing and do their best to provide everyone who walks through their doors feel welcomed. I was hesitant going to game stores on a regular basis as my numerous attempts at other game stores was miserable and lack luster, but man oh man!!!!! Curio Caverns has become a second home as it is my haven for card and table top games! Also restaurants are not far at all and their prices are fair and competitive! I highly recommend this game store to anyone looking to have a great gaming experience and make friends that look after you and treat you like family!!!
I have only visited this establishment a couple of times so far, however the environment was friendly and welcoming and I made a few acquaintances almost immediately and everyone was very friendly there. I have been enjoyed all my time at this location and I would love to continue attending this flgs.
Theyve got a good selection of singles, and staff are friendly and helpful! Ill most likely be stopping back soon.
People who are there are very nice the prices are on point I don’t think I would ask for a better game store near me
A relatively small space, most of their games are crammed into a few shelves. This prioritizes gaming tables which makes Curio Cavern a social space. Both scheduled game nights and open tables make it easy to meet other people. The staff are pretty friendly, too.
My son and many of his friends go here to play games. My son likes to play Magic the Gathering. The staff are knowledgable. They have a wide variety of MTG, Pokemon, D&D and other games.
Great store. Friendly staff, game nights every night, huge selection of products, and highly reasonable pricing. Definitely would recommend to anyone up for a game.
Most knowledgeable staff, ample selection of games. Always people around to play board games or Magic or X-Wing. Table Top games as well (miniatures). This place makes me happy.
Love Curio such a laid back spot, nice people insane magic invintory, definitely a hard spot to beat
This is a super clean and well organized. Super friendly staff abd great attention to detail.
Excellent shop, helpful staff, fun place to play mtg, great crowd of individuals.
Great Place to play magic the gathering. Very Friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere.
There is nothing curious about this place except for curiously nasty odor that permeates. This cavern stinks worse then an ogres den. I decline to leave further regarding the condition of the restroom, except that it compares with that of high school after party.. Someone needs to hire a janitor. The high price tag on everything in this store is almost laughable..lets just say you would feel like Starcity games prices would seem reasonable after you left this cave.. There is nothing curious about this cavern except that smell.
Had a fantastic experience this weekend. The staff was great, the event went over smoothly, and they worked with all the new players. Looking forward to them continuing to expand and improve the shop and make the most out of the space.
Always willing to help with cards you trying to find, and gi e u advice on certain cards overall ha e great customer service so 5 out 5
Great space and friendly staff. Had some products I had been trying to track down for a while.
Great place for Magic events and X-wing. Good selection of card and board games, singles, miniatures, packs, and accessories. And the staff is awesome!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good play area, would definitely reccomend for other nerds like me
Nice place. The community is nice and the owners take care of the place.
Recently got into Magic, and I’ve been to Curio Cavern once before they moved to their newer location. They have a great selection of DnD books, cards, Star Wars stuff, snacks. They even have a few tables to play. Only downside is, unfortunately, the odor. I stopped in on a Saturday evening after work, and it was nauseating. May I suggest investing in a cieling fan? Otherwise, 4/5.
They have a great selection of boosters from a wide range of sets and blocks, but everything was extremely overpriced. For instance, a booster for the latest set was a whopping 4.75... I can easily get them for 2 dollars cheaper than that. They had a great singles selection too but it was overpriced. Only four or five tables to play at because they have a pretty small space. The workers were friendly though.
Very knowledgable and friendly gaming store, specializing in Magic cards and related tournaments. Lots of space to Play. People were very welcoming to me.
Small game store, but a lot of games on the shelves. Lots of tables and open gaming. Very helpful staff. Check it out sometime.
This is the best hobby shop in the area, without question.
If you are into trading card games, this is a good place to go and play.
You like Magic cards? No? Please leave...People are a little stuck up, walked in just to check the place out, talked to someone there for a moment, they asked if I played Magic, they said I may be in the wrong store...Not sure if they were joking or not, but it didnt exactly make me feel welcomed.
They sell Warhammer bits. Which is a Godsend. Dont see that often. Plus there cheap. Ill be using them often
Employees are always friendly and helpful! The store is normally well stocked and the prices are fair.
Small. Nice store but expected more games.
Friendly staff and great gaming athmosphere, they have a lot of tables compare to other places. I enjoy our d&d session there.
One of the most friendly, inclusive spaces for tabletop, miniatures, and card gaming Ive been to in three decades. Amazing staff and patrons.
Great MTG space, very family friendly with goo events
Friendly staff, great place to relax and get geeky and Nerdy with friends or staff. Play favorite Hobbies on many of the gaming tables. Or learn to play a new hobby and game.
Best little gamestore I have been to in the DC area. Prices were reasonable. Staff and patrons were quite friendly.
Small bit well stocked game store.
They have some amazing game stuff
One of the most friendly and inviting shops Ive been to in the area!
Pretty small shop but great selection of mtg products.
Friendly people, well run store that goes out of its way to make your experience there great.
Friendly helpful staff. Introductory gaming that is explained very well. Nice atmosphere.
