I couldnt stop thinking about how delicious the food was after we left the restaurant. First of all, the service was amazing--very attentive, despite the long wait for our food. We knew we werent forgotten about and that the food was just being prepared fresh just for us. Secondly, my husband loved the duck with crispy skin and risotto, and I loved the shrimp Florentine crepe. We finished the meal off by sharing a mascarpone crepe with blueberries, strawberries, and bananas. Oh this crepe was the perfect ending to our meal!!! Not too sweet, but sweet enough to satisfy any craving. Thanks for the lovely evening, Aviary!
When you LOVE vintage type, be yourself, absolutely adorable settings with wondrous food, this would be the best place to go. I could not stop taking pictures. Loved the chalk & sticky notes in the restroom full of positive energy, the ET Book our check was brought in, the food both looked and tasted superb. Nothing negative to say. Enjoy this place if you have the chance.
Sooooooo good everytime! We come here alot and its always delicious. Such good quality food, weve never had a bad experience. Food is high quality gourmet and very reasonable prices. The crepes are awesome but please try the flank steak or the chicken. I honestly cant recommend this place enough. I would take this place over a chain restaurant any day.
Really wanted to give this 5 star but a few things are stopping me from it1- the coffee was super bitter! (thankfully server was polite and removed it from our tab)2- I ordered the gluten free espresso chocolate crepe which truly tasted good but the chocolate taste more like jello pudding than espresso chocolate. 🤷🏼♀️- still ate every bite- sooo good!3-there is no where to wait inside for a table (super cute little building though) we did find a bonus indoor space right next to it that accessed apartments which was great to shelter us from the nasty wind4-not handicap /stroller accessible5-this is downtown so good luck on finding parking. On the plus sideThe staff were all super friendly and went above and beyond to ensure we were taking care of. The host gave us his markers for our daughter to stay entertained 😊 the food did take a good while to reach the table but it was worth the wait. We also tried a savory crepe and a berry one with a side of fruit. The fruits were all so fresh and delicious. The closest thing to fries for my daughter were the pommes frites which were more like potatoe chips
Loved the atmosphere in this wonderful cafe! The food was excellent and cappuccino and lattes were well done. We had a window seat on a Sunday after and enjoyed watching downtown activities while dining. Our waitress was great at describing dishes and making suggestions. Thrilled to have found this place. Enjoy!
We had the California chicken club with egg and the farmer crepe. When I tell you they were both AMAZING!!! The Crepes AMAZING!!! The beverages AMAZING!!! The service AMAZING!!! The ambiance in this place is also great. Like an old Venetian feel to the restaurant. This is our second time here and was equally pleased as the first. As we walked in the door the people leaving also spoke extremely highly of this place. I’m extremely happy with this restaurant. Can’t wait to go again! KUDOS!!!
Cute little cafe with a nice corner spot and windows looking out to the street. Lots of natural light and bird-inspired decor. The menu has a ton of delicious options, including sweet and savory crepes. My friend got the crepe Benedict. She says it never disappoints and she would give it the highest number of stars possible. She also had the pomme frites with a kind of herbed mayo dip (Shes obsessed). I had the Vegetarian omelette (really delicious veggies and sauce and the eggs were cooked to perfection) and the Lemoncello crepe (lemon curd, marshmallow sauce, and berry compote - to die for). I highly recommend the Walnut and Jefferson location. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.
Portions were a bit small for the price charged. Food was pretty good, but not out of the park amazing. We loved that they had kids meals that was mini versions of the adult foods. None of us are fans of the blah kids food most places serve (nuggets, pb&j, etc). Overall, we wouldnt spend that much to go there again, but we wouldnt tell people to avoid it.
The Aviary is one of my most favorite places to eat in Springfield! They have a lovely selection of cuisine to satisfy just about any palate. They are so friendly and helpful. Get the pomme frites, theyre delicious. And dont skip dessert! The salted caramel crepe is so delicious. Split a savory crepe for your entree (theyre big) if you must to be sure you have room!
Savory crepes are great, my favorite being Crepe Loraine! Service usually doesnt take long, portions are large, and I love being able to get a salad as a side with my crepe (weird, I know). Visit the Aviary if youre looking for a nice brunch with different menu items compared to other traditional brunch restaurants! awesome
I have never been to this location before. I’ve been to the other place one time and gave it a five star. Walking into the restaurant we were not greeted by it. We had to stand for quite a while we could see into the kitchen and the person that eventually came out to greet us and been standing there talking to the kitchen people. He CVS had a comfortable table for two. All the tables around us were still dirty. This was not during a busy time of day this was at 4 o’clock. I asked him if there were any specials today. His reply was a simple no. We check out the menu eventually came back we place our orders. When the food arrived it was beautiful. And very very good. I definitely recommend the bananas Foster. We will go bad. But the service could’ve been better and it could’ve been a lot colder. The general atmosphere was very nice.
I worked here awhile ago so my review will probably be looked over by management. First off, service was not good. Due to COVID, there are less tables but the server took 15 minutes to bring waters and another 10 for the drinks we ordered. The lavender hummus tasted like drinking bath soap. Our food was not flavorful at all. I would have rather had Taco Bell. Even the table next to us said its not how it use to be. Also the dinner setting is so dark, I could barely see my dinner guest. Definitely will try a new place when I come to town again. the new menu and changes are disappointing
Love this quaint restaurant! The food is always fresh and amazing and just the right portions. Great for a quick lunch.
We came here just to have their crepes and glasses of sangria. We were not at all disappointed with the food, which was nicely prepared and presented. Service was polite and efficient. Amazing! Love this cafe! If you love crepes this is the place for you! They also have amazing sandwiches! We really enjoyed our first experience with crepes. The Aviary Cafe was a great breakfast spot -- pretty busy on a Sunday morning. The Cafe offers both sweet and savory crepes and our choices included two crepes and a side dish which was substantial. Very reasonably priced. Very friendly waitress.
Have been here several times and really like this place. Sorry to say, I was so incrediblydisappointed tonight. We made a reservation to eat before taking our girls to a theater show next door. We sat for over an hour before receiving our food and learned it was the company Christmas party that night. They ran on a short staff with one waiter and two cooks, trying to support a packed restaurant. I feel bad for those working. This is REALLY poor management. Close the restaurant for the night if you have a Christmas party and let all employees enjoy it. Don’t leave your restaurant severely short staffed just to make a buck and create horrible customer experiences. We own two restaurants in town and would NEVER do this to our employees or customers!!
A little over priced for breakfast. $20 bucks! for French toast with a chunk of chicken on top. (That included the tip). The service was great and our waitress was friendly and helpful when i explained that i wanted a genuine French meal (French toast, really? The French invented French toast?) but the food was excellent. My partner ordered the crepes. Now THAT was good! Get that if you go there.
We ate here this weekend. It took the server a long time to come to the table after we were seated. Other than that the food was amazing. I loved this restaurant. It has a great atmosphere.I highly recommend it.
I really like this place. The food and service are always good. My only complaint is about the entrance. I wish there were railings for people to hold onto when they are going up and down the stairs into the restaurant. I realize there are only two stairs, but at night, in the dark, railings would make it much safer.
We really liked this place!! Great crepes both sweet and savory. Everything we ordered was delicious. There was a mix up with them mishearing an order and delivering the wrong thing which took off a star. But overall, really cute place and good food. Friendly service.
The service was good and the food delicious. The crepe we had for dessert was amazing. We did the $40 meal deal where you get an appetizer, 2 entress, and a dessert. The food was all yummy. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that both the appetizer and dessert we wanted they were out of.
The Aviary Cafe in downtown Springfield is a nice place to enjoy a healthy meal and a nice tea. The food is modern, southern and farm to table all in one. The atmosphere is very quaint and very artsy, which is appropriate for this downtown location. The interior has many personal touches with a plethora of knickknacks, doors and window panes covering the walls. Downtown Springfield is in the midst of a revival and Aviary Cafe fits in perfectly with the mix of businesses moving in. Go enjoy an afternoon tea, something both British and Southern. Nice!
I wouldn’t recommend it in my opinion, got the salted caramel crepes and it was swimming in caramel didn’t expect that also didn’t have much taste. My bf got the farmer and it was alright. But 20$ for each plate seems a little out rages. I rather eat at first watch. Service wasn’t the best either. Glad they are practicing covid by temping every customer but I’m a server at a restaurant not in Springfield and we place each customers 6 feet apart by seating everyone by every other table and aviry didn’t do that.
Really disappointed in the service on 12/23. It was extremely slow, took over 15 minutes for drink orders to be placed, even longer for the waiter to return for food orders. The food took over 45 minutes to come out, no apology was given for the service. We used a coupon to have a free appetizer. Waiter brought out checks and said “Just imagine your bill $7 cheaper” implying he would take off the appetizer. Later come to check our banking statement and see that I had been charged for the appetizer, even though the waiter assured numerous times he would take it off. Overall, very disappointed and will likely not return.
The food was honestly great but the service was really bad. I went with two friends at 11:30 and was told there would be a 30 minute wait. At 12:30, I asked the host where we were at in line and they had skipped us 4 times and said that they had called us when they never did. I even looked at the number the host had written down and saw that it was correct. When we finally sat down, we waited several minutes just to get our drink orders in. Now, Ive worked in food industry and know that you should prioritize a guest if theyve been skipped already. When we finally ordered, we got the fries along with our drinks. It took over 30 minutes to just get 2 orders of fries, 2 coffees, and a mimosa. We tried to talk to our server and ask her how long the rest of our food would take since we had been there over an hour and she very rudely said that she would be able to get our food if we werent talking to her. While we were eating, she didnt give us silverware and we had to ask 3 different times for her to give us a refill on our coffees and waters. While we kept asking her, she was bussing tables and seating new people while ignoring us.Huge thank you to Abbi and a server with purple in her hair because we kept asking them to help us when our original server was continually ignoring us. Abbi told us that we would be able to get a discount for the wait but our server didnt put it on the bill. When we asked her if we could get a discount, we explained to her what was going on and she refused to take any blame. She kept saying that shes busy, understaffed, and we arent her only table. My friends and I were extremely understanding with her and tried to explain that flipping tables shouldnt be her first priority when she was consistently ignoring a table that was already eating. We waited over 3 hours start to finish and only got a 10% discount.
Walked in and we were immediately seated. 5 minutes to be greeted, another ten for us to get just a couple waters. We waited for our food for 40 minutes, running out of time before we had to hit the road. We watched a table who ordered after us by quite a bit, get their food. We asked them to box it and we had to wait another ten minutes. Very disappointed by the service.
When my family comes to town, this is the one place they always want to go! The food is always delicious, both locations have charming decor, and the menu frequently shifts to reflect season and customer feedback. And as for price? Any entree is cheaper and much more creative than IHOP! Drinks are on the pricey side but high quality and well-made.
The other location is better. I wasnt satisfied with my steak mushroom panini. The amount of steak was minimal. Flavor profile is good but was not satisfied with filling. I was not satisfied with my waitress because I had ordered an appetizer and she failed to order it. She seemed distracted. We had to repeat our order to her several times. I realized she did not order our appetizer when our meals came out. I confirm to her did you order my cheese platter If you did I want to cancel it. She had this look of absolute horror to realize that she did not order it but she remembered I had requested it. I do not know if I will return to this occasion I wasnt satisfied.
Best effin crepe ever! I travel all over and LOVE sweet crepes. This place was generous with the goods, and I enjoyed every bite. Can’t wait to have another!
Cute little place for lunch. Good service. Only been there a couple of times but everything I have had is really good. A great place to meet a friend or shamelessly people watch and indulge in sweet crepes. Look forward to coming again and will definitely recommend.
We came when It was super busy but our waitress Avery took great care of us the entire time. When we were leaving, my boyfriend forgot his coffee and she came out and found us before getting to our car and gave it to us. Wonderful service!
I really love coming to Aviary. :-) The ambience makes it feel like such a special place. They have really whimsical and artistic Decor which changes with the seasons. I love the downtown location which is in an old building and seems so charming. My mom used to make crepes when I was a little girl and I think theyre creep to the best in town. They always have a lot of special dishes that you cant find it any other restaurant in Springfield.
Aviary is great, but we would recommend to go to the location on S Glenstone/Republic Rd. We have been to the Republic location multiple times and have always had optimal service and food quality. Plus, if you go Saturday mornings, you can drop by the farmers market before or after you eat! On the other hand, the downtown location does not feel as classy or professional, and the food is not as good.
We loved it here!! We took our 5 year old and he absolutely loved the food. (Grilled cheese and a big bowl of fruit). We both got the strawberry lemonade salad and I swear I could eat that as my only meal for the rest of my life. So good. The customer service was fantastic as well!!
Typically, I love Aviary. The fruit and mascarpone crepe is crave worthy. Unfortunately, todays experience was awful enough to leave a review. We should have just spoken to the manager there but I felt far too awkward and just wanted to leave. Our server was clearly very stressed and struggled to keep from projecting that onto us. It was 30 minutes into waiting before she informed us the crepe machine was broken and I would have to wait 20 more minutes for my meal. Luckily, the other meal came out although it was comically bad. The sandwiches usually are delicious and well made but this sandwich had almost no meat. One bite with meat in it and the rest was all bread. We had to cancel my crepe order because I didnt have enough time to wait but we got her attention to show her the sandwich to which she acted very annoyed with us before huffing back to go remove that from the order. I fully understand that sometimes the stress of things going wrong in the kitchen can be even more frustrating for the server but I dont think Ive ever had a server so mad at the customer for things that werent our fault. We both left hungry and I still love the Aviary but I think from now on I will avoid this location.
The crepes are good. The available variety of foods like salads and fried chicken is just right.Sadly, something is missing. I havent quite placed it yet but the clip on this bag of chips is missing. It isnt the drab/bleak decor. No one seems to care about uncomfy seats or benches. It isnt the service, thats fairly standard. The food is decent (for Springfield) and pricing is moderate.Perhaps its just a feeling of discombobulation overall.Anyways...good enough for a second visit and worthy of a review.
We went in during happy hour, so sweet crepes were half off. The whole order was a bit over $10. Good price, good size servings, and the wait wasnt very long either. The staff was very friendly
Absolutely wonderful! I have celiac disease, am highly sensitive and follow a strict gluten free diet. We came 25 minutes they closed since our flight came in late. We were greeted with warmth and a smile from the GM that manages like she owns it and waited on immediately. Our food was out in less than 10 minutes. The Brussels sprouts were made in a separate pan since they are usually put in a deep fryer that is unsafe. They were THE BEST we’ve ever had! And the crepes (both savory and sweet) were to die for. My husband had “Is it morning”, I had the fresh berry. Wish we lived here! Hope to return before we fly back home. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
The food was fantastic. Had their version of Poutine and enjoyed it. The coffee was a bit odd. Everyone categorized it as super weak and it looked like tea when it came out. Wait staff was quick to let us know thats how they always serve it but they could run it through with the espresso to embolden it. Looked and tasted more like coffee then. Over all a good place to go, just maybe not for coffee.
This place is amazing! The food here has a great combo of flavors no matter what you order. My friend and I ate here twice in one day on our adventure to Springfield. The staff was super friendly as well! We plan on returning for sure!! A+++++++
Im not one to leave negative reviews, because I understand the stress of the restaurant business. But after a frustrating experience this morning, I need to.We were super excited to finally sit down and have some brunch after leaving 2 places due to wait times. We were seated immediately and ready to order. After sitting for 5 minutes two other groups came in and were seated. Each group was greeted immediately, served water and then coffee. We sat for another 15 min without being greeted by a waitress or served water. A waiter even approached the table directly to our right to see how they were doing. After some discussion we decided this isnt the kind of service that deserves our money and left.We then headed to First Watch, which was much busier, and were seated immediately and recieved awesome service.Super disappointed experiencing this at a local restaurant. Especially a place with such good food.
The food was very good here. We were seated almost immediately, but then no server seemed to be aware that we were there. Eventually our drink order was taken from someone who said they werent our server, and then we waited again. And waited. After being served our meals we did not see our waiter again and waiting for our check was painfully long. If not for the good food, we would not consider returning.
Wonderful good. Somehow they have mixed comfort food and crepes. Phenomenal. Everyone should eat here at least once and try something new mixed with something old.
Heaven on a plate. I ate so much that I was full for a whole 24 hours after. I highly recommend the Limoncello Crepe and The Farmer was pretty good too!
I very much enjoyed dining here. It was a lovely Parisian chic themes cafe. The ingredients were top notch, the service was pleasant, the Mimosa had proper parts including a garnish, and the crepes...made with quality hands and a fair amount of love. The only reason I cannot give it a full 5 stars is because of its inability to provide an outdoor dining option. One of the signatures to Parisian cafes are their patio/porch seating. This option provides a wider range of comfort for a wider demographic. Other than that, it was superb. Good job Aviary!
Best crepes around and awesomely wonderful service each time Ive been there. Definitely recommend you stop by if youre in the area!!! Great menu and even have a very tasty gluten free option 🙌🙌
Amazing crepes! Like seriously. A perfect place for a nice date for breakfast lunch and dinner. With great vegetarian options. They have sweet and savory crepes, and amazing drinks. I had a great Moscow mule, and my girlfriend had a great caramel cappuccino.
I only got a chance to stop in and try a sweet crepe, but it was delicious. Had I known about this place before I got to Springfield, I would have probably gone everyday during my visit. Everything on the menu looks so good. Not only did the food look good, but the atmosphere and ambiance of the place was on point. If youre looking for a cozy place to have brunch, look no further.Sorry no pictures. Everything was so good by the time I realized I forgot to take a picture, the food was gone.
First time going to this location. We arrived at 5:00 pm on a Tuesday. No one else was there, we were the only table in the whole place. It took 25 minutes to receive our appetizer and an hour to receive our food!!! When he brought out the appetizers he didn’t bring any plates. We had to steal some from an empty table next to us. He came back by several minutes later with plates and acted annoyed we got our own. Complete lack of training. Hello!! you had 25 minutes and no other tables to bring the plates. We were eating here before we went to my daughters preschool graduation. We were almost late because it took SO long! We had to eat our entrees in 5 minutes so we could get out of there. Thank goodness I had ordered my children’s food to come with the appetizers. We love the other location. This one not so much. Big difference between the two. My entree was not very good. I ordered the bistro chicken. The description said crispy skin and served with kale. No skin, just a dry chicken breast. No kale, instead they substituted mushy field greens. You cannot cook field greens. It is not a substitute for cooked kale. Our server could tell we were in a hurry toward the end and had the nerve to say we should of ordered off some quick menu they have no one knows about. Again it was 5:00 on a Tuesday and we were the only table. How long does it take when the restaurant is full?? 4 hours?
One of my families all time favorite spots in Springfield. The decor inside is darling and the food is even better!! Great coffee and even better crepes. I always get the sweet ones but my family has gotten TONS of the savory and all of them were delicious. The french onion soup is also really yummy!
I dont know who wrote those reviews. The only nice thing about this place was a wonderful waitress who was sweet and nice. The place itself was shabby and worn out, seemed a bit dirty to me. Horrible crepes, definitely not French, way too thick and the fruit on top of it were not fresh quality. And they make probably the worst latte and cappuccino I have ever had, barely warm, too dark, in a weird glass. It tasted like a cheap quality coffee, boo! As for the food, I got salmon baguettes, and the bread was so staled and old, I could barely bite on it. Long story short, it was bad.
First time here & I must say the food is fabulous. Will definitely go back. Great prices too
I am in town for a business trip and had an hour for lunch. The service was absolutely phenomenal and it is the absolute best food I have had in Springfield. The salads, the crepes, and the Brussels sprouts were completely amazing. The decor was very light, cozy, and welcoming. I cannot stress enough how enjoyable my meal was! Fast service, happy employees, great food!
I went here for a business breakfast. I had the French Bread (what they call the French toast). Some of the best I ever had. Most places dont cook French toast thoroughly, this was cooked very well. The berry compote was just delicious. The presentation was very nice, as well.I enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere a lot. Our server was great at her job. I am quite impressed! Id recommend The Aviary to any friend or family member.
I ordered the Is It Morning crepe and it was amazing. It was filling and makes me look forward to the dessert crepe.
For those of us who remember the Magic Pan, the Aviary is a godsend. Not only do they have marvelous savory and sweet crepes, but the rest of the menu is marvelous as well. The star of our meal turned out to be the side of brussel sprouts. They were flash fried and our server recommended topping them with a little goat cheese.
Love the food here. The prices could be better. Service is always exceptional. Only time Ive had to wait for a table was during Sunday brunch rush and we still didnt wait that long. Again though prices could be better (Im talking to you management) how about some smaller more affordable menu items. I can never eat a whole humble brag anyway
Had the Pomme Frites and the Poulet Perdu. The pomme frites and the chicken in the perdu were delicious, but the bacon and French toast were perhaps the best Ive had. I was so tempted to ask for recipes, since we live half way across the country and I want my hubby to make me that French toast, but my courage was not great enough.
Visited from out of town and we were delighted! Quaint little eatery with a French flair. The kitchen is small so youll have to wait a little, but it is worth it.
The crepes are good but the rest of the food isnt. There isnt enough variety of crepes that are savory. I would call this a desert and coffee place more than for lunch. The coffee is good and they have real cream. I usually drink black coffee but with real cream its awesome.
Interesting menu in casual, shabby chic atmosphere. I had the butternut hash and really enjoyed it. I ordered the pommes frites to go with it and thought the truffle oil was a bit of an over sale (I couldnt really taste its presence at all). The aioli they serve with them is delicious though! His band had the Crepe Benedict and said flavor was great but crepe was a little thick. We would definitely come back here.
Good place. The food is delicious, but the other branch has more menu options. The service is a little slow. I would recommend it for someone who wants to enjoy their time.
