Hands down the best customer service and experience. Save yourself some time and take your bike to this store, I’m sure Mat and the guys will take care of it.They saved me a couple of times, before big rides, without overcharging me.

I am on the fence about this place and I like supporting my local bike shop. Matt the owner is great. Trusting any mechanic with your bike or your car is hit or miss. My bike mechanic for over 20 years retired and moved so now I am in limbo trying to find a replacement. This place a lot of good potential I just do not feel 100% with it. I am glad I know just enough about bike mechanics. I feel a good mechanic should be meticulous and unfortunately I do not think the younger ones there are.

I have used the shop several times, and each time they have provided professional and timely service. Most recently, when I returned to the shop asking for some further adjustments, they made and tested the adjustments so that the bike performed flawlessly.

Just moved to the area and needed an adjustment on both derailleurs. Was expecting it to take at least a week since my old shop seemed to always be delayed but Levi at Rats got it done within the hour! Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!

First Time rider. Came across RCs after going to the Trek place in Springfield.Honestly, RCs did not make me feel like some inferior being for working within a budget. Plus being ignorant to a lot of the mechanics and terminology in the biking world he took the extra 5 mins to help me out. Which I appreciated.We settled on a second hand Trek and am pretty damn stoked about it. Runs great.Id recommend this place is your looking for some honesty and ability to support a local business.Ill update if need be.

I got my Trek fixed up after not having rode it for over five years.Chain, cables, shifters, it all needed to be replaced. They offered me an Advanced Tune-up, which while it costs $169, it replaced the cables and covered the cost of install on everything. It’s got colorful options for those that love color too! They cleaned up my bike, with a 30 day warranty on their adjustments, and now I’m happy to ride it.Overall, great customer service and friendly staff.

Could not have been more pleased with my experience at Rat Cycles!After a 3 month wait for my e-bike to be delivered (purchased through a different business), it arrived with a punctured tire. I proceeded to call multiple businesses in the area for a repair, none of which were willing to work on my bike as it is a brand that most are unfamiliar with. Rat cycles is our neighborhood bike shop, so my boyfriend and I figured we would cross our fingers and bring it in with hopes that they could help us. Upon arrival, every employee in the store was so welcoming! Unlike the other shops we spoke with, they didn’t turn us away! Instead, they agreed to try their best, and we were so grateful. Admittedly, my bike really does lean a bit heavy on the motorcycle spectrum in its design, so we understood this may not be an easy task for a bike shop. The guys got to work right away, and within half an hour my bike was ready for the road!The exceptional efficiency and customer service at Rat Cycles will keep us coming back for all our biking needs, as well as recommending them to all of our family and friends!

I like that the employees are very friendly and they are great with kids. You dont have to hunt down employees like at other places, here they are always ready to help customers.

What a baffling experience. I called this shop because Specializeds website said they had a bike I wanted in stock here. They say they do have the bike in stock, but its in a box and hasnt been built yet and wont be ready for a day or two. Not a problem, I dont mind waiting. Bikes are kind of hard to come by, after all.I then offer to come down to the shop and purchase the bike so I can pick it up a couple of days later when they finish building it. They say they are not allowed to hold bikes. I clarify again that I will purchase the bike immediately, and they would just put it together so I can come pick it up when its ready. I was passed to the head mechanic who said that I could not purchase the bike. The best they could do was write my name down as someone who really wanted the bike and they would maybe contact me when it was done being built? I ask why its not possible for me to just purchase the bike before they assemble it. They say they used to do that earlier in the year but they had issues with returns?? Which doesnt make any sense. What do I have to gain from purchasing a bike then returning it before I walk out of the store? Youre going to have to assemble the bike no matter what? Why would you not want to have that bike already sold?Overall it was one of the most confusingly inane conversations Ive ever had. I just want to come purchase the bike you have in stock. No idea why it has to be so difficult. I ended up purchasing from Contes Bike shop. I would rather wait 2 weeks for them to ship and assemble the bike than speak to anyone here again.

This shop seems small, but they have a great staff and help everyone that walks in the door. I took my sons broken bike in and they fixed the broken wire kn the spot for free. You dont see service like that anymore.

Mike was amazing at Rats Cycles today. We bought my daughter an EZ roller but needed a flag as she rides low to the ground. I went in and he found a flag for me instantly and was so professional and helpful. I highly recommend this store to anyone with biking needs.

Friendly staff who did a great tune-up on my bike on time and on budget. They replaced the parts that needed placing, but didnt try to replace the parts that were in good enough to last another year condition. Makes them trustworthy - Im a happy customer!

I SHOULD HAVE read more details in the reviews. TL/DR Dont bring your complicated med/high end bike here for service. Most bikes I saw for service and Im assuming most reviews are for simple kids bikes. Nice people, but go elsewhere for experts.With Covid-19 causing many bike shops to shut down their service centers, it led me here to Rats Cycles for annual service. I had shifting problems that were causing my chain to fall off and the front brake was sticking here and there.They adjusted the rear derailleur, supposedly did a safety check on bolts and adjusted the front brakes. Its fine in the parking lot, but one ride into the trails, chain is off twice, front brake is basically stuck. I go back and theyre very nice and said they will immediately try and resolve the issue. The people here are very nice and are trying to help. Shifting is back to normal until I hit the trail and boom chain off.At this point Im not going back, Im out $100 and decide Im going to fix this myself. I start to just check every bolt on the bike and THE REAR THROUGH AXEL IS LOOSE!!! How did they miss this, TWICE?? My rear wheel was holding on with 2 threads remaining, I tightened it and havent had a chain drop or shift issue in 5 rides since.Yes I was being lazy and decided to hand this off to experts for a trouble free resolution being busy with work, definitely didnt happen that way.

I had a terrible experience with Rat Cycle! I brought my bike in to have a new back rim installed, have my bike inspected, tuned up, and also paid a $25 rush fee to get it done within 24 hours. I went to Rat because my usual shop The Bike Lane is closed on Mondays and I wanted to ride ASAP. All the work and the rush fee was $250+, which I thought was high but I wanted my bike quickly so... After I got my bike back I took it for a nice 8 mile ride to test everything out. I ended up having to adjust my brakes because the rear brakes were very stiff and the front was very soft. I also slipped the chain a couple times, I put it back on during my ride but didn’t think much of it. The 2nd day I took it for a long 20 miles ride, strangely I slipped the chain 4 more times during the ride. Then on the last mile, luckily while I was going up hill and slow the rear rim literally came off the frame. The rim stayed within the frame because of the chain, but the bike immediately stopped. I came very close to going over the handlebars, good things I was going uphill and slow because I could have been seriously injured! I brought the bike back and they kept it for 2 days to inspect and fix. I ended up asking for my rush fee to be refunded since my bike was fixed incorrectly the first time, and was told the fee is non-refundable. Also the guy actually put the blame on me for not inspecting my rear rim before I rode my bike, I just hate folks that won’t admit a mistake and then blame others for their mistakes! The bad part is now I’m always gonna be a little afraid of this bike. I will end up buying another bike but it certainly will not be at Rat, I will go back to my trusted Bike Lane. If you want professional service, go to professionals!

I just had major work done on one MTB bike and routine maintenance done on 4 road bikes.Very much appreciated the open communication. I would recommend their tune up options over a la carte work, unless you know for sure that it is only one issue.The only improvement I would recommend would he having a way to access your customer record online to see all the work done, or be able to price yourself before coming in.

This place is awesome. Friendly -- no talking down to regular people like all the other bike shops do. Thanks for making me feel welcome and not like I have to be Lance Armstrong. Fast -- service was done in less than two hours -- in WAY less time than I thought. I was expecting the usual week or longer like all the other bike shops. I took my bike to another shop before coming here and they told me that the rear wheel on my bike wasn’t fixable and I had to buy a new one. At Rats Cycles they easily fixed it on the spot. I will drive out of my way to come to this shop again.

I had a great bike shop near my house that closed, so I looked at other shop websites in my area, and Rats Cycles had the best prices – I was not disappointed! The price they quoted was the price I was actually charged, with no surprises or hidden fees. They gave my bike a complete tuneup, and replaced a few different parts and accessories. They were very thorough in their explanations beforehand, the customer service was great, and they finished repairing my bike very quickly! I will definitely return to the shop, and recommend to any friends with bikes – thanks, guys!

Very happy with my purchase and two repairs!I contacted RC early this month, to schedule a pickup for repair and wound up trading in the bike for a discount on a used one; they sent me photos of a bike they got in for repair that would work for my son, and they delivered my son’s bike a few days later.I found a used bike for me and brought it in for a tuneup, and they said they didn’t need to do much, so they charged me nothing! So honest!Then I had my son’s bike in the shop after he blew a tire. Again, great service.I have already recommended via Facebook review, thanks for such great service!

Awesome local bike shop. Friendly and knowledgeable staff that perform great bike service and maintenance. Rats Cycles also carries Specialized Brand products now. I highly recommend the Specialized Aramadillo Tire. I put Armadillos on my bike over Memorial Day Weekend at the recommendation of Matt and his team. I have logged over 1500 miles on these tires since then WITHOUT one single flat. Huge relief compared to suffering a flat every 10 days prior to that. Thank you Rats Cycles!

I walked into Rats for the first time yesterday in need of a $3 bolt. Matt overheard me trying to explain to one of his mechanics of what I needed and jumped in to help. He searched his shop for 15 minutes and finally handed me a $30 part that had the bolt I needed. I offered to pay but he said not to worry about it. He will have my business forever, thanks Matt

So ... I no longer live in the Springfield area, but this place opened as I was leaving. I recall everyone looking very happy and helpful as I walked by to go to the Giant. Fast forward, Im a single mom of 16 year boys that rely on their bikes to get to work. Moms can usually do everything, but we cant fix bikes ... at least this one cant! I started looking around at tunes ups etc., no knowing what I actually needed and ended up calling Matthew, the owner and he put my mind at ease. He walked me through everything and told me to go see Mike at the shop and if I had any questions, to call him and hes explain it all.There was no need to call. Mike was amazing totally got their bikes back in better than ever condition for a fraction of the cost of any place else. No up-selling, no BS. Just helpful, friendly, and compassionate at the fact that Im a single mom and wanted my boys to be safe. This is NOT your typical bike shop folks! They care and dont gouge you. I couldnt recommend this place any more!

I’ve always been a firm believer that you get what you pay for. When I bought two bikes for my kids, I wanted a solid product AND top quality service. The people here are amazing, they treat everyone the same (from my observation from multiple visits), and they aren’t bike snobs. Everyone starts somewhere and we’re not all going to want to win the next Tour. Kudos to Rats bikes’ staff.I wish they supported a local bike charity. I’m sure that there are plenty of kids out there that would love a bike!

Bought my son a bike here. The bike we bought was used but in outstanding condition. The price was perfect and why buy a new less quality bike for the same or more money for one we know he will grow out of. The owner is easy to talk to you straightforward and very honest. We had the best experience with Rats Cycles. We just bought my 10 year old a 26 in mountain bike with Rats Cycles, and got an outstanding bike at a great price. The staff we super knowledgeable about youth mountain bikes--they were able to answer all my questions about the bike and provided me with a lot useful information. We ended up with a terrific bike that my daughter will be able to grow into and use for a number of years. And best of all--we can finally take her on some real mountain biking trails.

Been working in the Alexandria area for about a month now. Looked up a bike shop and found Rats, it’s located in the shopping plaza by the way. All I can say is the professionalism from Matt and his crew was the reason I bought a bike that day. ( Haro Steel Reserve ). The second time I came in I told Matt that I wanted to build an XC. Gave him a budget and it did not disappoint. Both bikes are two of the best I’ve ever owned. Can’t say enough about Matt and the crew at Rats Cycles. What a great experience! Christian went far above and beyond to fit me into the best bike for me. He even built two bikes out of the box for me to try - one of which ended up being the perfect fit for me. He is clearly both passionate and well-informed about all aspects of biking. Im confident if Id have purchased a bike online, I would have been disappointed. Buy the right bike, and buy it once. This place is great! I brought in my daughters old bike for a tune up, and they fixed it up like new. They had a good selection of used bikes for sale, and their prices are very competitive. Back in November 2019, my wife decided we needed to get in shape, so she wanted us to get our bikes looked at. Rats Cycles changed out my seat (needed extra padding) and my replaced the chains and updated the gears on both of our bikes all for a reasonable cost, and then gave some advice on biking. What i did not know was that my wife bought a Spoortneer indoor cycling trainer, and they were helpful us in getting that set up as well. Rat Cycles is awesome. And congratulations to them, they just opened up a store at the Fort Belvoir PX, i am sure they will do well.

Im really shocked to see all the 5 star reviews from this place. I was in there about 3 times recently and was only greeted by the dude at the register. I never had a mechanic even acknowledge my presence. Anyway, I left my bike for a few minor repairs. When I picked up the bike, I was charged double from what a regular bike store would charge me. That repair wasnt done properly and neither was the other one. So I took my bike back to the Bike Lane where I usually go. And I asked the mechanic if he could rate their repair on a scale of 1 to 10. He didnt give me a number, but he said he had never seen such bad work. The spokes on my wheel are Aero and should be turned vertically. However, the spokes were turned horizontal which defeats the purpose of an Aero wheel. I came to Rats Cycles because I got tired of waiting in line at the Bike Lane. I wanted to give some business to another store, but that was clearly a mistake. Anyway, I had to pay the Bike Lane $35 to fix their mess. If I had a mechanical problem with my bike and they were only 1 mile away, I would rather take a Taxi and go somewhere else.

I went to this store because I wanted two nice bikes that would be donated to children in need as a Christmas gift. I shopped at a large local store before coming here and was extremely disillusioned. There was essentially no person who came to the bike dept. to help us. The owner of this bike shop on Huntsman Blvd. answered our questions and gave us confidence that the bikes we were selecting were a good option for these children. I had little knowledge of these children except for their gender and height. Because of this I needed guidance and I felt good about my purchases. I would recommend this business to friends of mine.

I had my 90s Specialized Road bike built here. Matt who owns the business did a phenomenal job on the build! I was debating on doing the project myself, however this time I decided to let someone who really knows their stuff handle it for me. Matt definitely knows what he was talking about. For the new equipment Matt said he would handle the parts buying himself and build the bike to the vision I had in mind. The bike looks so much better than it originally did. See the pictures!Side note: The frame and fork were powder coated at Extreme Powder Coating in Lorton, VA.

I was looking for a newer bike for my 11 year old. Matt (owner) helped me find the right size and even took an older bike from me towards my purchase. Matt really knows bikes and all the parts and pieces to them. I recommend Matt to anyone looking for a bike, I know hell help them get the right bike or part they need.

I needed some minor repairs after a recent wreck. Matt gave me an honest estimate of repair time and cost and he came under on both. He walked me through the repairs and explained any minor adjustments I might need to make. The bike now rides better than new. I would definitely recommend Rats Cycles for repairs.

Took my bike to this shop last Saturday (5.23.20) because I was on the GCCT in Lorton and had 3 spokes break off my rear wheel. Thought it being the “closest” bike shop from the trail and seemed to have good reviews, I brought my bike in. BIG MISTAKE!! First, the mechanic, white guy with the bald head, simply nickel and dimed me the whole time I was there. Basically had to just ask him to please fix my wheel so I can get on with my ride. With a derailleur adjustment, my total came to like $125 or something. In order to get new treads today (5.28.20) I took my bike to another shop, ONE I COMPLETELY TRUST BECAUSE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE DOIN...here I ended up having a flat tire because the genius mechanic at Rats put on a new rim that was for a Schrader valve tube and did not use the necessary bolt needed to take up the extra space in the hole in the rim as I run Presta valves. Dude puts a Presta valve tube on a Schrader valve rim! AND, he even went the extra mile and did NOT put the adhesive tape on the rim so that the spokes do not come through and puncture the tube. Just a total idiot, bonehead job by Rats. I went today to see if I could get my money back and I couldn’t. They wanted the “chance to correct our mistake,” like I was gonna let them touch my bike again! So, they get $125 of my hard earned money, I get a flat tire because these guys are clueless. Do not, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE this bike shop! Go somewhere else! Bike Kinetic (my personal favorite), Big Wheel Bikes, one of the places up in Fairfax...AVOID this bike shop! Because more than likely, you’ll be paying some money, then spending it elsewhere due to Rats’ ineptitude. I would love to give them negative 10 stars, but Google Reviews won’t let me.

What a fantastic bike shop! I brought my 11yr olds, 26, cheap, poor quality Walmart bike in for what I thought was a needed replacement of a severly bent derailer. After a literal glance at the bike, the owner said...oh, youre fine...I can fix that! Within a minute, the bike was on the repair stand; after a few quick adjustments from this obviously experienced bicycle repair guru, the derailer was bent into the correct position, adjusted and fully functioning! I actually feel guilty for buying a Walmart bike now. To his credit, there was no judgement or condemnation of the inferior parts used on this cheap bike... just professionalism, competence, and a great attitude. I can tell this owner is an actual biking enthusiast and truly cares about his customers. Hes also got a couple of hard- working, engaging, and knowledgeable teenage high schoolers working there too. All in all, I had a great experience and will absolutely recommend Rats Cycles to all my friends and neighbors. My next bike purchase(s) for 3 growing boys will be at Rats Cycles!

Felt like I was right at home when I visited the Rats Cycles shop at Huntsman Square. Came in just to check it out - ended up buying some custom Rats Cycles apparel and scheduling a much needed tune up for my mountain bike. The laidback atmosphere, unbeatable prices on bikes/products, and excellent customer service took me back to when businesses took great pride in their work. This is the neighborhood bike shop you support and Ill definitely be returning.

Cant recommend this shop highly enough. Went in for a tire change on my mountain bike and was welcomed with years of experience and an obvious love and passion for bikes. I had a bit of a unconventional experience which Matt was able to help me with, and he exceeded expectations in the process! I needed a bike rack to drive cross country within 24 hours. Although the turnaround time was quick, Matt was able to work with me to get the rack I needed in the required timeframe. He was extremely helpful, professional, and even got me a rack with one more slot for another bike which was a pleasant surprise! Definitely recommend these guys, and will be going to them for future work when back on visits in VA!

The shopkeepers are very intent on good customer service, and it shows. I had several repairs on an older bike, and while the problem was difficult to track down and ultimately the bike was unable to be salvaged, they helped walk me through buying a new bike perfect for my needs.

Dont be tempted to buy everything on Amazon or REI when there is a local bike shop here with good prices and great personalized help. For some reason, we missed the fact that this bike shop is very close to our neighborhood (for too long). We were trying to catch the last good riding weather days of fall but did not have the tool to install a trailer hitch for a bike rack. We emailed Rats Cycles to see if there was any chance they could do it, and they could! Christian went out of his way to help us, even working on the installation while we left the car to attend a family dinner. After we used the new bike rack, we came back to the shop with a question about transporting our daughters bike. Matthew gave us a tip that saved us $40 on an unnecessary adapter that we had purchased at REI. They did not ignore us for being amateurs with a kid (as happens at other bike shops that just want to sell $$$$ bikes). In fact, it seems like they just want to help people enjoy riding at whatever your level is. Dont be put off by the lack of inventory at the Huntsman shop. They can order whatever you need, and the advantage would be that they could have recommended exactly what we needed to suit our level of family riding. I wish I would have known this before we purchased everything from Big Box store, but nevertheless, they were still happy to help us install and work with that equipment. Overall, very nice personalized service. Highly recommend. Shop local!

I took my bike here to talk about my brakes they still dont work very well my bikes super squeaky and theres a wire sticking out of one of the front brake wires horrible
