Cant even do a simple bearing and seal replacement on an 82 Toyota pickup axle. One seal was compromised both bearings were put in the cups crooked and not pushed all the way in couldnt even turn the backing plates on them. Wouldnt recommend them to my worst enemy. Yes they only charged me $40 but it cost me $185 to fix their mess up. And still wouldnt refund my money.
Stay far away! Jeff is the worst owner i’ve ever had to deal with. Extremely rude and doesn’t stand behind their work. I had them resurface a head and get a whole block ready to be rebuilt, said they did all of this and come to find out the head was never resurfaced, and valve seals were bad. Was told by the owner Jeff to call Southworth and take it up with them because the employee who took my parts in is working there now. Zero accountability. If you want your stuff done right and by GOOD people, stay FAR away from here. Plenty of better places like Small World.
They swapped out my old Pistons for new Pistons on my rods and a very quick cheap process.
Place is a bunch of crooks. Horrible work, gouged pricing, completely dishonest. Never use this guy.
Caldwells is my go to for any issues with the vehicles in my fleet. I know I can count on above average service with honesty and value. I would recommend to anyone, business or family.
Going out of business. Selling all the assets.
Jeff runs a great shop, no upsell and fixes it right.
Great place great helpful staff. Was quoted a low price over the phone. But was still honored and also agreed to pay the cost. They kindly rejected, just to inform that a higher charge will be implemented next visit. Will do business again ;)
Have heard a lot about this garage from my research they are an automotive repair shop that bought machining equipment and now they think they are engine builders. There is a little more to it than that people I know have had work done and been given a verbal warranty then when the inevitable happens from inexperience doing things they shouldnt the warranty is added to the trash with the heap of broken parts. Thats not how I have been tought to do business what happened to the respectfull and honorable generations when some ones word meant something
Excellent as always fast and affordable
Extremely friendly, quick, and very informative which I loved. Will be going back for their great service!
Very friendly, and fast.
Great work great prices
A delight to work with, they are efficient and very reasonable in price. I will continue to do business here for many years to come.
Fast and friendly.
4.75 stars: These guys are super friendly and helpful. They were extremely accommodating. I needed a head decked and they got the job done. They lost a couple points because I could tell it was rushed and they left metal shavings on the head and there were some burrs around the valves that I have to carefully manually remove and make sure there were no shavings anywhere. Several hundred miles on that head now and no issues so I think they did the trick, their clean up work just isnt 5 stars but everything else is and Ill definitely be coming back.
Jeff the owner is a fair and a nice person, also very honest. also everyone there are professionals.
This place is THE BEST, THEIR, VALUES & INTEGRATY ARE IN LINE WITH MINE,this seems so rare these days plus they use Rottler equipment (top of the line) they have a machine shop & a repair shop all in one, Jeff Caldwell has been i in business for 35 plus years, & you dont last that long unless you are the best. The staff is very knowlagable and Dave has a reputation for or doing things right the first time, he really takes pride in a job well done no matter how big or small, I recommend Caldwells to everyone
This is the only mechanic I will take my cars to! Super customer service and reasonable prices! I always feel like we are in good hands and never feel taken advantage of!!!!!
Good workers. Good work. Fast service.
Diagnosis and repair in 10 minutes low bill friendly service honest work!!!
I had to get a CV axle replaced on the Van. They did a great job, same day service and a great price. Friendly customer service and an overall great experience. I would recommend them to my friends and Family.
Just horrible.Brought a truck in because it needed machine work, which I cant do myself. They said they would do an engine rebuild for $1,200, which seemed reasonable. Then it became $1,600, then it became $1,800.Fine. Gotta do it, and at least Ill have a truck with a brand new engine in it when I am done? Nope. Start the truck up, it is seeping oil out the head gasket, because it was installed wrong.I bring them the truck back via a tow truck, they wont pay for the tow AND blame me for the problem. Stating that I did something wrong. So I go in with the video that I took and PROVE to them that I have EVIDENCE that they messed up.So they accept responibility, because they have to and say they will fix it and make it right.Get my truck back and 2 days later it is leaking oil because they used the old seals after they took it apart and put it back together correctly.New headgasket seals only cost $60 for the whole set and I even told them I would bring them if they wanted but they said they would do it.Dont bring your vehicles here.
Poor customer service unless you are a regular, otherwise you are just another person in the office. Very slow and terrible at calling back. Was told 1-2 week turnaround time for full block and head rebuild and assembly, took over a week just to measure the cylinders. Also, after having my pan cleaned, found metal in it waiting to get sucked up into my engine. Took my stuff elsewhere where the job will be done right and in a timely fashion.
So so so disappointed it this shop. The worst experience IV ever had. Frome the start they never had a clue what was going on. They could care less about their customers. They charged way more that what I was quoted and did not even complete the job. When I asked why they told me it wasnt very hard to finish it myself REALLY. DONT USE THIS PLACE!!!!!!
They know what they are doing.
Had the worst experience with this place, after getting my truck worked on they had ruined my fuel injector and lost my spark plug wires and tried to replace them with ones that were junk thinking I wouldnt notice. When confronting the owner he stated I brought my truck in without the wires which is not even possible owner and employees were very rude. Would not recommend
I have known Jeff and the guys in the shop for many years while they helped me restore my six old antique automobiles and trucks. Of particular noteworthy fact is their expertise in engine machine work rebuilding my 1928 Chevrolet National AB Convertible Cabriolet, my 1931 Standard Model A Roadster, 1935 Chevrolet EB Light Delivery, 1936 Chevrolet FA Master Town Sedan, 1956 Austin Healey BN-2, and my 1965 Chevrolet C-10 Caddy Powered Pickup. Jeff has guided me through each project with his fine machinist in every case over these many years through every issue. All my restored vehicles are still running and in top restored condition. Any issue has been corrected with professional care for all my vehicles.
Poor customer service.. there machine readouts have errors and they jip you for extra fees. I dont need to be called a lyer by a stupid computer.
Excellent customer service and quality work.
The boys been there to help me when I have been in need. The owner Jeff Caldwell is an amazing business owner in this town. Hes always there to help the little guy
Bought a beautiful Aprilia 100cc scooter from Jeff. I love it. He fixes mopeds to motorcycles. If you are in the market, hes on Main st.
I’m not a happy customer will not return. After 1000.00 spent and did not get the problem solved.
My 22re runs ok that they built an installed.. But... It lost rear main seal in 2 months. They fixed it on warranty. A year goes an i loose front main seal. Warranty is only good one year so i would have to pay labor for them to replace a .30 cent gasket but my gasket is covered.... When the tech set my timing he did it wrong. He did not use the jumper terminals to set ignition timing properly at *5 btdc. The tech set my timing at 15* btdc the first time when i went in to complain about them doing it wrong they set the timing to 0* btdc. Bottom line. They are not great techs. They dont know proper steps to completeing the job. They also have a joke of a warranty for a 3k engine. Skip this shop an go to one that has competent technicians that will stand behind the work they perform.
Wont be taking even a lawnmower here ever again. Towed my 89 Camry over to have some headbolts removed and the cylinder head resurfaced for a full headgasket job at another friends shop across the street. Requested both of these things twice to the owner and to another gentlemen who picked up the phone, with the latter giving a tone that sounded like they didnt want to do it. Charged me $100 just for the head bolts removed, found they hadnt even drilled them out and used extractors on them.Pushed the car across the street to the shop and found out that they hadnt resurfaced the head either. Charged me $70 for which I was quoted $45 over the phone.Should have listened to the reviews more, would not recommend
Good
I was given a price on the phone and when I arrived the price kept going up and up. They never ended up giving me a good or definite price- so I went somwhere else and had a quality job done at half the price.
They get the job done but I always try to go somewhere else if I can. I always feel like they are trying to rip me off.
Every time Ive been in Ive received fast courteous service.
Caldwell is the epitome of a slimy mechanic. There was communication problems between the desk and the mechanics. What was a 10 minute job took an hour and I had to get on the ground and show the mechanic what was where and what to change. Save your time and money, go elsewhere.
The Breathalyzer Installation process was a little vague. Nice employees though.
Quick efficient service on my Subaru.
They have been fair to me so far.
Rip off
