Tea-focused drinks and dessert spot. Came here on a Sunday around 4:30 and there was a short line to order but it moved quickly. You order at the counter first and then can seat yourself (indoor seating). You can also order online to save yourself time and pick up your order. There are benches outside if you want to eat/drink outdoors.Credit cards are accepted. Bathrooms are available on the right hand side of the cafe. It’s a good spot for a casual date or a family outing. I got the Kyoto tea, which came in a small little pot. The flavor was clean and light, but they don’t give you a lot of tea. For the lattes, you have the option of hot or iced, and can also choose to get whipped cream. The parfaits are cute and you can get one for yourself, but will probably have some leftover. They have savory food as well, but this seems to function more as a dessert spot.
We were so excited to see Nana’s Green Tea. We’ve tried their matcha parfait before in Japan years ago and always missed it! The matcha soft serve and the matcha latte is good, but they were both a little too thick and heavy for me. I love matcha but at this point it just tasted like super concentrated matcha. Additionally, I got the hojicha latte and it was just plain out bad. I’ve had hojicha tea before and I love it and know what it tastes like, and I’ve had hojicha latte before in many different cafes… but the hojicha latte here was just not it. First of all, just by looking at how dark it looks… it looks like a mud slime and the consistency was just too thick and grainy. It didn’t taste earthy or rich like it should have… but instead it was just thick and bitter. I think I’ll stick to the Nana’s in Japan…or just stick with their parfaits.
Delicious authentic Japanese matcha dessert place! We went to Japan and had our taste buds forever ruined. This is straight from Japan! If youre a matcha and Japanese dessert lover, you wont be disappointed!I did not try their savory food but they also look legit and delicious. This is so far their only US location!
The best black sesame ice cream I have had. The staff was nice enough to pack a few scoops of it in a cup to take it home as a pint for later as they were out of the pint containers. From other visits a few tips. The parfait is huge and has corn flakes in it for texture. I also enjoy the matcha smoothie with black sesame.
BLACK SESAME SOFT SERVE! I have to open with that. The flavors of each ice cream is so concentrated, I return again and again for it. Some stores lessen strong flavors, but at Nana’s, it’s celebrated. I didn’t bother with the parfaits and the tonkotsu curry was thin and not so delicious. But the hojicha and black sesame soft serves are forever winners.. plus, their desserts like the matcha tiramisu are great for a slightly sweet craving. The seating options are great for small or large groups, making it a nice cafe to relax at and recharge.
I got one of the parfait (more like a Sunday) and a Hojicha float. I was pleasantly surprised by the parfaiylt because it had a layer of frosted flakes which was kinda funny to try and get through. The cream underneath was pretty sweet and the drizzle really gave a nice roasted flavor to the whole experience. The float was a bit odd because it had ice so Im fighting with the scoop of ice cream on top and the ice cubes trying to get all the liquid inside. Overall it was a great little dessert stop and the flavors complimented each other. The staff was really nice as well. Also note: you have to bus the table yourself so hopefully you dont make too much of a mess enjoying these treats.
A pleasant cafe in the busy SLU area, this place does matcha right! We got the hojicha parfait, matcha sort serve, hojicha and matcha red bean cake rolls and left very satisfied. The treats weren’t too sweet and you can taste the quality in the matcha flavor. Go just before dinner time to beat the rush
Nanban chicken is consistently good. Its the variety of flavors and textures that always makes this one a need to order. Chicken soboro don was a bit one dimension in flavor and texture which is the reason Im giving the place 4 stars. If they added more green mustard pickles or some type of tart element itd help. The rice was also dry. Seasonal Sakura roll cake was yummy but not the typical fluffy roll cake texture youd expect. Husband loved the matcha latte with oatmilk. Its nice that they have soy and oatmilk available to substitute for some of their drinks now.
Key: Really good matcha desserts, with my favorite being the matcha tiramisu and the matcha parfait. Ive also had the matcha soft serve before, which is amazing since the taste and texture are perfectly balanced without compromising one or the other; its smooth, creamy, and strong in the matcha accent. Those are must-trys but make sure you eat them fresh!Parking: There is no on-site parking so either park close and walk,or order take-out and have someone else pick it up while youre in the car. Thats the only downside about wanting to go to Nanas often, as its a bit inconvenient!Overall: Highly recommended dessert place for all things matcha, since theyre known and famous for their matcha desserts, so if you order strawberry parfait (like my stubborn friend below) or curry, it will disappoint!
Is the type of food that everything look amazing that you dont even know what to try.The sizes are enough but I would recommend sharing so you try different things. The desserts are really good and they use high quality matcha so the taste is nice and they serve it with other sweet stuff. I have tried the soft serve ice cream and the matcha tiramisu. They also serve food now, it looks good but I didnt get anything.
Delicious! I would give 5 stars for the atmosphere and the staffs alone. The desserts here are fantastic. I specifically recommend the matcha cream puff and parfait as they are unforgettable for sure. Also, when its not busy, bringing some books here might be a good idea too.
Anything matcha taste wonderful here. The desserts are not overly sweet and has a rich matcha flavor. The only down side is the meal/food that are not matcha desserts served here. The rice does not taste fresh and runs on the dry side. But if you’re only looking for good matcha dessert, this place is wonderful!
The matcha is authentic and the flavor is amazing. The combination of jellies, ice creams, corn flakes, and matcha flavored desserts in the parfaits are dreamy. The matcha flavor was perfectly balanced between bitter and sweet, one side never overpowering the other. It tasted refreshing, smooth and rich. Priced at $9, I felt it was worth every penny. On the other side, Hojicha (roasted green tea).... That is all you need to know. If in doubt, ask for a small sample first. I just like matcha in general. Hojicha wasnt the right pick for me.If youre looking for the elegant flavour of matcha over traditional ice cream, this place is a #1 hit for me!
Very very tasty tea themed deserts and drinks. Also served a really tasty Japanese style curry. The indoor seating is quite restricted so I would suggest eating outside in the patio area if weather permits. This place is a real hidden gem in the downtown area.
Clean, nice and pleasant staffs. GooD quick bite and lattes. I love the red beans there.
Strongest matcha flavored soft serve Ive tasted - great balance of bitter/sweet. Quick and friendly service too!
Oh my goodness this place is amazing!! The parfait was perfect. Sweet and great texture with the wabarimochi and the corn chips and oh. Highly recommend
Yummy!! Great soft serve. Had matcha vanilla twist cone with matcha cake. Cake was like a small delicious brownie side. Will definitely come back. You should stop by when in Seattle.
I used to love coming to Nanas for food and a treat. Whenever I ate there I felt like I was back in Japan. However recently the prices went up (understandably) and the portions got smaller. The food quality has also gone down.I will still come by for drinks and ice cream but I dont plan to come for their meals anymore.
Hmmm… honestly, not worth the price. The Matcha parfait was good, but the rest of my order was pretty terrible. Portions were small for the price and I got a piece of chocolate cake which tasted odd and was hard as a rock. Like inedible… I also got the matcha roll which was flavorless. $7 for a matcha roll? Nah, not worth it. This place is cool for some interesting takes on dessert, but be prepared to be slightly disappointed. Items seem to be hit or miss.
This place is my guilty pleasure!! Whenever I come back to Seattle, I take time to come here. Im really happy that this place is still open during these uncertain times. Its Wonderful!!
I absolutely love this place! The crowd favorite is the matcha nama parfait with mochi, but don’t forget to get food as well. This is the second time in a row I ordered the same parfait with the chicken karaage curry and rice. I’ll eventually want to try their black sesame parfait once I finally stop ordering my usual.
Tastes, so matcha rave about. If you are into matcha or green tea, this is the place to go! They also have yummy Japanese lunches, bentos and katsu, this is tucked into the side and so parking might be hard, but a great place to visit!
A perfect green dessert to end a Friday mentals day! Soft serve matcha with chocolate cake and matcha cake roll were so delicious. Balance between sweetness and matcha allowed the subtle green flavor to standout and saving most of the chocolate cake until the end allowed it to soak up some of the melted soft serve 😋
Good quality matcha and food at this tea house/cafe. Espresso drinks are a little watery/weak but the match really is great and the staff are quick and efficient. Go for the thick pork katsu and delicious curry.
I nice place to have lunch alone or in a group. You can choose between eat-in and take-out. Their ice-cream is amazing. There tends to be a queue in the afternoons close to 12:30pm because of the Amazon employees who frequent the place for lunch because of pro lite to the Oscar office.Prices are somewhat on the high and you may wanna factor tip as well. They are open 11am to 9pm. Parking may be hard to find, go with ride-share or public transport if possible.
Very fast service and super friendly. I always love everything I try! The flavour is so authentic and wonderful. I didnt really enjoy the red bean paste they use, but everything else is AMAZING! the parfaits are always so good and the tiramisu as well ♡ prices are reasonable and the establishment is super clean!
My expectations for the food quality was high, but I was doubtful if I would walk away full. The prices were far less than what I expected, so I assumed portion sizes would be small. The dish I ordered was so tasty and I had plenty of leftovers for that night. I was a little hesitant to go because the line was (literally) out the door and I also thought the wait would be long. Nope, super fast service! I assumed I would be a number because they were so busy, but the two people (taking turns) in the front were both very friendly and personally engaged me. They made the experience memorable. Besides being pleasantly suprised, I learned I assume way too much😂
The food is good. But i hate the service.I ordered take out two days in a row. They always gave me the ice cream first on a hot day and i end up waiting ten minutes for the food. The result is the ice cream melts. So for a take out order, why would you assume people are going to eat the ice cream right there?
Ive been here once and I cant stop thinking about the parfait I had!! I loved everything about my dessert stop at Nanas. The parfait itself was great and the shops light and airy aesthetic is a great refuge from the Seattle Gray (Its almost like they knew how instagrammable everything would be 😉). I went on a weekday after work so there wasnt a rush, and there were lots of available seats. Highly recommend for Japanese styled desserts with typical Japanese flavors!Definitely will be coming back.
A great place for matcha desserts. I havent tried their full meals, but I would highly recommend this place for their desserts. The parfaits taste delicious and healthy. Room inside is a bit limited but you should most likely be able to find seating. The space itself is very trendy and aesthetic - perfect for your IG!
Pretty good Japanese green tea desserts. Feature in parfaits and ice cream in Japanese green tea and sesame flavors. They also serve Macha and Hojicha beverages. Savory food are also served but not a lot of choices. Overall, the place is good for dessert if the line is not too long and when parking is not too hard to find.
I am not the biggest fan of the food here. The fried chicken is definitely not that good. Sort of had a less fresh taste. For that price it should be great. The drinks and desserts are great tho
DeliciousHard to parkTrendy so there are a lot of lines outside
Service is great! I was skeptical about the food and portions but left full definitely well portioned and delicious. The desserts especially any with icecream are quite large and perfect to share
Sleek, modern place with good looking food, the taste is mediocre though and portions on the smaller spectrum
Really cute place. A+ aesthetics. The desserts were really good and the portion was reasonable for the price!! I had the tiramisu, and I really enjoyed the multiple textures and the fact that it wasnt too sweet. One suggestion would be to stuff a marshmallow or something in the ice cream cones so ice cream wouldnt melt and drip out the cone. Otherwise, its a great place for good desserts and conversations.
Japanese Sweets, Desserts, and Comfort Food in Downtown Seattle...😊 Pros:✅ Yummy Japanese-style desserts and sweets✅ Matcha green tea theme✅ Good variety and flavors✅ Bright and modern decor, casual atmosphere.😔 Cons:❌ A little pricey❌ Can get crowded (depending on hours) and seating might be limited.😉 Bottom-line:Was pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of the desserts and food. Experienced something similar while in Tokyo in 2018 and Nanas recipes were pretty close to what I had. Ordered the chicken katsu curry and it tasted fresh and made-to-order, with the chicken being moist and not frozen. The desserts were satisfying and the matcha was definitely the standout. Some of the items seemed a bit overpriced though, such as $5 for soft-serve (I would pay around $3.50 instead). Overall, a good place to try Japanese desserts and food, albeit on a fancier (and pricier side).🤔 Would I come back?Yes, to try out the other non-matcha desserts to vary it up a little.
Very tasty and delicious mocha riceball cup. A little bit expensive tho. Worth of a try but dont make it a habit ;)
I really enjoyed everything we tried here. Delicious dinner and amazing parfait.
Get the Hojicha soft serve ice cream and be transported straight to heaven. The flavoring and attention given to the craft of their is amazing!
Who knew there were so many options for matcha?! Too many to try, must go back. Black sesame matcha frappe was 🔥, and the chicken karaage was good too.
Can’t believe there’re so many people waiting in the line when we arrived in the afternoon. Most people come here just for the matcha desserts, but I also order the curry.• karaage curry with miso soup. Nothing special with the miso soup. Karaage good taste and fried very well. Typical Japanese curry which I like it a lot but this one gets salty when you almost finish the plate.• parfait. If you love sweet a lot, go with the matcha one. Sesame is pretty good actually. Don’t image you can finish one parfait by yourself. Sharing!• Tiramisu is better than I thought! Not too sweet and they put it quiet a lot matcha powder on top!By the way, parking here is terrible. Very limited street parking or expensive parking lot.
Really cool space and so many things to try! Honestly overwhelmed when I walked in with the options. The drink I got maybe had a little too much going on for me but was delicious nonetheless. Will try something more simple next time. The matcha cookie was bomb!
This place has such a relaxing atmosphere.Hojicha warabi-mochi parfait & Hojicha walnuts tart tasted so good.
This place is crazy busy but its just so good for what it is compared to what else is available around this town. The chicken katsu curry is good but the egg salad on that
Really delicious dessert and rich matcha flavor. Love it! But the services need improvement and speed up.
Really love their matcha soft serve! It is what I always get when Im there!
A bit pricey, but worth it for the quality of food you get. If you love katsu, you need to try their chicken katsu curry - my go-to for lunch. Chicken karaage curry is also good. The parfaits youve probably seen all over Instagram are just as delicious as they are pretty - just make sure you find someone to share it with since you get a lot of it. If you want to try one of the matcha lattes, I recommend the brown sugar.
Its a great cafe to have the Japanese green tea ice cream and the tonkatsu curry.
We enjoyed the matcha soft serve ice cream. Flavorful and not too sweet.
Record high temperatures in Seattle this past weekend meant the need for something cool and refreshing while downtown was a must.Friends and I ordered the strawberry red bean latte, the hojicha parfait, matcha mochi parfait, and black sesame parfait. I would say all the parfaits are a must try but I did see many people just get the soft serve from here.
Yum!!! Everything here I tried was amazing. Its pricey and yet sooooo good. I suggest the green tea and a matcha parfait!
Absolutely love the matcha parfait among other food items on the menu.
Im from Japan and this store is in my high-school and college memory. I went to Nanas often after school with my friends. Now they are in US. I hope they expand to Cali. Bit sweeter than Japan but so good to taste their yummy Macha ice cream 🍦 dog friendly too. One of their team member brought little pawscream for my puppy 🐶thanks
Lots of matcha madness going on here — matcha coffee drinks, matcha teas, matcha parfaits, matcha roll cakes, matcha chocolate cake, matcha cookies, matcha tiramisu, matcha pound cakes, matcha, matcha, matcha! 🍵🍵🍵 Our group tried the karaage curry chicken curry, the chicken katsu curry, and a coupe of the parfaits. All dishes were very tasty but a little on the pricier side with smaller portions on the lunch dishes. The only sort of surprising issue was the long wait times for a table and the sort of unorganized long lines that formed out the door due to the wait time for a table and confusion of dine in and take out orders. We waited around 30 minutes in line and then for a table. You order at the counter first, then they give you a number sign to put on your table for your food and drink orders to be brought to the table. The other issue was we waited quite a while for our dessert orders to finally make it to us since the staff is trying to watch when you might be ready for your dessert to bring it over. This probably also causes the wait times to be longer, and we noticed the lines had gotten considerably worse as we left the restaurant. Also, we ended up missing one of the parfaits we ordered and had to let the server know to make another.Overall, the food was pretty good, but the service and timeliness could use some improvements.
I LOVE this place!!! I grew up in Japan and this is one of the places I go to when I get home sick. Always great service and the yummiest meals, desserts, and drinks. We often order katsu sando, matcha tiramisu, cream puff, yuzu cheesecake, matcha soft serve, and matcha float…. Yes sometimes all at once but we try to eat it over a few days… try to 🤤 I love it so much that my birthday present was 3 different cakes (tiramisu, yuzu, and matcha brownie) and 2 pints of ice cream (matcha and sesame). NGL was low key mad my partner forgot to get points for the order cuz I can never have enough Nanas and their points system is nice but I was in heaven for a week 🥰
5 stars ⭐️ for the food and quality. Their matcha is amazing. I especially like the Parfait; they have several flavors like Matcha, Hojicha... but since I’m a Matcha-lover, I just stick with it 😂 The Salmon Ikura Don and Katsu Don are so yummy... I’m craving for it right now!! Overall, good price, great food, nice store and friendly staffs.
