Just left here the barista was SO friendly which was the first thing I appreciated. I ordered a lavender latte, the last several I’ve gotten had been pretty bad at other places so I wanted to give it one more shot, it was the best I’ve had yet. Plus they had 3 adorable dogs when we went in so this place wins best coffee shop in Seattle :)

I was excited to try Makeda & Mingus because of the good reviews, but it was a letdown for me. I was searching for a new neighborhood coffee shop. I wanted to quickly grab my coffee and start reading. First, I waited forever despite having only one person in front of me. As I waited, I looked for a seat, but it wasn’t that inviting. It was very small, stuffy and a mishmash of aging cushions and kid’s toys. When I finally ordered, the barista wasn’t very welcoming and curtly took my order. “Aw man, she must be having a bad day,” I thought, but the drink didn’t make it any better—now, I don’t think my standards are high when it comes to coffee, so for me to notice anything means it must have been really off. When I finally got my cappuccino it was completely burnt, had no foam and was undrinkable. One thing after another had piled on and I felt so uncomfortable that I just wanted to leave. I wish it would have worked out because the neighborhood seems to love it, but it wasn’t the place for me. To be more positive and helpful towards whomever reads this (and is likely looking for a coffee shop) Fresh Flours ended up being my choice.

This is my FAVORITE neighborhood shop. In fact, I walk past four other coffee shops from my house to come here: where everybody knows my name, and my [cats] names and my moms name! This is a true community home-base. Its cozy and comfortable and the coffee is made with experience and research and love! Sooo delicious!Keep an eye on special events (including crafting fun) and special menu items (home-made Indian dinner every Thursday). I appreciate the high-quality cafe experience and am hooked by the loving family spirit I feel every time I walk in the door. Check it out...then stay a while and chat!

Pashanti, the proprietor is lovely and there is such a friendly vibe here. Great coffee and Macrina pastry. Yum! Last time we ended up sharing a tableand having fun getting to know someone new. Another time when it was less busy, we sat down and started in a conversation with Pashanti and whoever else was in there.

This is my favorite coffee and hang out spot in the greater Greenwood/Ballard/Phinney area. The coffee is always on point, and the specialty drinks (like the delicious golden milk latte with coconut milk omg) are delicious. All the food Ive tried, like the breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and night where Indian dinner is served, have been super tasty. Its not just a coffee shop, its a community where Ive seen many regulars return and befriend each other. The owner and baristas are amazingly friendly, and there are always cool events happening like craft night or art walks. Theres also beer and fun local art and crafts, AND PUPPIES! Mingus, the owners dog (or is he the owner? Who knows!) is a sweetie and lots of people bring their pups in and hang out. This place is the be!

Its interesting to me reading the couple of reviews from 7 months ago saying that they had an experience with a curt barista. That could have been the barista that I knew that was let go. :-) look, if you try something once theres going to be a 50-50 chance that its going to be a bad experience. But the more often you try it, the more youre going to be able to tell whether or not it is actually worth it. Were so quick to judge in this world especially on social media. This is an awesome place! The owner is great, its locally owned, and the coffee and tea is really good. If you dont like funky little Seattle coffee houses then feel free going back to your more trendy Starbucks places. But remember, just because you have a bad experience doesnt mean thats the standard of the establishment and if you read good reviews otherwise, maybe your comments needs need to be given directly to the owner so they can do something about it. Thanks!

In the world of coffee you would think that we would have some idea of treating everyone with respect, but unfortunately this café falls very short on treating people with respect. Never will I recommend this shop!! Everyone that walks through the door customer, homeless person, or sales people should be looked at as a customer.
