Came here on a Friday with a friend to study! We arrived around 4:30pm and all the seats were filled. We managed to nab a table within a few minutes of arrival (thankfully) because someone was just leaving! I didnt order any coffee as it was past my coffee drinking hours but I did order a ham & swiss panini. The associate informed me that it would be about 6 minutes for my panini. However, it took closer to 10-12 minutes... When the panini came, I noticed that one half of the panini was kinda pretty burnt. Fortunately, the other half was perfectly paninid and the taste was good! Both my friend and I had a hard time connecting to the WiFi. It took my computer almost an hour to finally connect to their wifi (and yes, I tried turning wifi off and on, restarting my laptop, forgetting the network, etc). This was frustrating for me, and in combination with my half burnt panini I give this place a 2 star. The environment is very cute - the cafe area is in the back of the bookstore. It feels cozy and home-y. I wouldnt be opposed to giving this place another shot but would try their coffee and maybe just use it as a place to catch up instead of doing work because I dont want to run into WiFi problems again!
Located inside the book store, this is a nice nook to grab a java or small snack. They have free WiFi and bathrooms, but you cant bring in unpurchased books into the cafe.Music is on point and staff is quick to get orders taken. The tables are kept very clean. Usually this place can be crowded, but folks dont tend to stay too long.
Very aesthetically pleasing. A group moved me from my seat because they had the large table reserved, even though they ended up only filling half the seats and left my original spot alone. Once moved, I lost all internet connection and had to leave, as I was working. 🤷 Kinda weird vibes, not great for staying long, but the food and drinks are fine. Maybe a nice novelty while shopping, but not a good destination.
Perfect spot to get some work done! There are many tables scattered around, many of them with power outlets. The place is quiet, it has great atmosphere, really fun retro classics playing in the background, delicious coffee and to-die-for cookies (accompanied by a constant smell of something baking)! Haven’t tried their food but everything looks good.
They have a good drink selection, and its inside a great bookstore, but you should know what youre getting into - they dont want you to stay. The music is loud and the seating is uncomfortable. The food has flies on it. Theyre not friendly. They automatically add a tip to your bill, even though its essentially self-service. Its too easy to cause a mess trying to carry a teapot, saucer, and cup to your uncomfortable seat, and I saw multiple people within an hour spill their drinks because of the wobbly tables and bad cups. I think theyd be better off using standard to-go cups.
Fun find, but not much space and $3.50 for a short shot of espresso. You might get lucky with a table and very lucky if you find one near an outlet. Closed early at 7:30pm and removed everyone from the seating area. That was unfortunate.
Spacious, and fun cafe inside Elliott Bay Bookstore. The drinks and food are tasty, and theres a lot of seating. I only gave 4 stars because its super busy all the time, so its loud in the cafe. I recommend bringing headphones if youre trying to work on your laptop, or read. The staff are the loudest ones, and you can hear their entire conversations.
Great baked goods, tea and coffee. They also have glutten free friendly items like delicious biscuits and jam. It is a little noisy, but still a good space for a book club meeting or a study group.
Try the pastries here. These are bakery-quality pastries, not cafe-quality. They have an excellent biscuit with butter and jam, and theres a different cake each day of the week, all of them good. The real standout is the almond and fruit teacake, which has a wonderful, marzipan-y texture.
I love this place. very friendly people like a family! The food so tasty and the place is beautiful
A cozy place to curl up with coffee for work or pleasure. Calm energy in a historic building with a few ghosts hanging around!
If there are seats available, its a really nice place to get some work done, or meet a friend for coffee. I read in some reviews that the wifi wasnt the best, and although it wasnt as bad as some of the other reviews made it sound, it was definitely slow at times.
Stopped in for an ice tea on this hot day in Seattle. Delicious Hibiscus on ice, with limitless refills. Nice!
While usually the coffee is alright, Ive not ever had great service here. While also working in the coffee field I have a fair expectation of what food service should be and have never had it met here.My coffee today was ordered, no bad experience at the register but nothing inviting, and while waiting for my drink (I did get distracted for a slight moment but no more that a couple of minutes) I went to check on my coffee and see if it was waiting as the bar wasnt doing anything and asked about my flat white and got the response of ah I called it out and no one came sooooo I tossed it in a slightly snotty tone. They did make a second drink but the quality wasnt good and wasnt my order at all. Just hoped for a little more of a polite response to the situation.
Cozy little spot with good tea and coffee, though not much space or outlets. We definitely got some work done here though!
This place is so cute. Great coffee and service, and its inside a bookstore. I found it by accident while buying a book.
Great little coffee place in a wonderful bookstore.
Cute little cafe with delicious coffee and snacks located in my favorite bookstore around! A great spot to relax and read.
The food we had was good, the overall customer experience, not so much. The prices for what we ordered ranged from reasonable to youre-kidding-me.TL;DR version: We arrived around 12:30. They were busy, but didnt look slammed. When we were ready to order, we were told to wait, while the two employees behind the counter conferred over a smartphone. We finally got to place our order, paid (panini, $8; large cookie, $3; iced tea, $4!), and were given a number and told our food would be brought to us. Time passed. After 10 - 15 minutes, I went to inquire about the tea. The cookie had been sitting on the counter, but apparently they had run out of tea and somebody had gone next door to get some. We ate the cookie. It was delicious. About 10 minutes later, the panini arrived and I asked again about the tea. The server apologized and said they had to brew some. We ate the panini, slowly. It was pretty good too. After we finished, I went searching for the tea again, and it looked like they had just finished brewing it. Having finished eating, we took it with us. It was OK, but certainly wasnt worth $4. And reviewing the credit card charge later, I discovered that theyd forgotten to charge us for it.
Very nice new little are inside Elliot Bay Books. Nice coffee. Nice pastries. The new spot is definitely encouraging more people to stay maki it tricker to snag a spot to sit and enjoy your snack. But a nice improvement for sure!
After waiting in line for 20 minutes for an overpriced 12 ounce mocha “to go”, they gave it to me in a “for here” cup. I asked politely if they could put it in a to go cup, and she spilled half of it and handed me the cup half empty without apology. Worst service I’ve ever received at a coffee shop!
Classic bookstore coffee shop. Lovely coffee. Great place to read and work.
One of the more expensive cafes on Capitol Hill, the atmosphere is cute and can be worth while if you love books! The blueberry muffin are dank but the coffee is average
Delicious food and coffee in a wonderful, open and bright Capitol Hill bookstore. The atmosphere here is quiet and relaxed-perfect for waiting on a table at oddfellows or any of the outstanding neighboring brunch spots.
BISCUITS AND JAM are the JAM! Also the staff is super nice and helpful. Eat here and buy books from Elliot Bay
Love that they opened this little satellite in such a great book store.
Beet can was not full and glass was chipped. Whats going on here?
It was early in the afternoon, and I needed a boost, and needed to ask for the bathroom key, so I got a cappuccino to go, and Im glad I did. I always forget how good an average cafe in Seattle is, and Im impressed when one is a little above average, especially when its as unexpected as a bookstore cafe.
For somewhere that caters to people doing work on their laptops youd think they could invest a little bit extra money in a quality router/internet connection. Both my girl friend and I were unable to access the internet in any form via their wifi.
Great vibes, great food, usually with a good amount of seating available
Great atmosphere, very relaxing. Good cafe food too!
Its a great vibe, and one of my favorite chai lattes!
Beatiful space, great service, free wifi and of course delicious coffee and pastries. ❤
Great atmosphere but disappointing service. The 2 girls working there acted like they were forced to be there.
Cosy, good coffee in a bookstore
Serving size tiny for an $8.50 sandwich... why pay less?, I thought...
Great drip coffee
Nice coffee nook
Great place to study
