My friend and i found this place randomly and decided to come for sunday brunch, and we absolutely LOVED this place! there was no wait for a table (we came around noon), and the whole place was super cute! there were lots of indoor and outdoor seatings, and the food was amazing.we got different savory waffles, and they were very unique. the texture of the waffles was kinda like corn bread, and they were loaded with toppings.i will definitely be visiting again soon, and i’m excited to try their other dishes - 10/10 recommend this place!!
Very disappointed - both times I’ve been here. Food was clearly not fresh or prepared well. Taste like everything was prepared in advance and sat in warmers. My eggs were undercooked, potato taste like starch water, and bacon was just hard crumbly bits. Also overpriced and waited 30 min for food to arrive.
Fantastic neighborhood coffee shop, eatery and bier garden. Casual, comfy and plenty of outdoor seating. Great foods...from sweet and savory waffles to delicious sandwiches and incredible fusion tacos. And drinks! Besides the wonderful coffee, you can choose from many different beers and spirits...or daily specials like Monday Mules and Tuesday Margaritas for $6. Best of all, the staff always makes us feel welcome...and at home.
I don’t particularly mind automatic gratuities, but I do mind when a restaurant quietly adds an auto-gratuity to the (non-itemized) receipt and then also has a tip line that suggests a minimum tip of 15% (for walk up service, no less). That left a bad taste in mind mouth that the food just didn’t make up for.Stop ripping off your customers, Citizen. If you want to add an automatic gratuity, say so at check out. Put up a sign. Make it clear to your customers what you’re doing. Tricking people into leaving 35% tips on their breakfast is a great way to turn people into one-time only guests.
Really tasty food and coffee specials, I had the biscuits and gravy and my husband had a scrambled egg plate.Plenty of outdoor seating when the weather is nice. Heaters too for when it gets a tad chilly.
Ordered hot chocolate 12oz cup was barely half full tasted like a watered down package hot chocolate. I waited for food for an over an hour after all of us got our food everything was EXTREMELY cold and hard. We ordered three farmers breakfast over medium eggs we all got cold over hard eggs, cold potatoes and cold hard toast. Service subpar.
The food is amazing and delicious. I loved the waffles
I had such a wonderful time here in the beautiful weather with the fire pits and lights and covered outdoor seating. The margaritas and cocktails were good. Just pre-made is my only sad point since I’d love a mezcal Paloma but it wasn’t quite possible since it’s been pre-mixed. Still love this place and will be back! Super kind staff.
On busy weekends they will just ignore online orders. Youll have no way of knowing this until you get to the store stand in line, get to the front of the line have the lady tell you itll be just a few minutes, for then another girl to say oh sorry sometimes when were busy we turn off online orders. She did offer for us to stand in line again and order again. Thanks but no thanks. I get it youre busy, and thats cool but if thats the case then just dont have online orders for those times. Dont let me place the order online get all the way to the restaurant and then find out that you ignored my online order.
The flexing for seating during the pandemic is perhaps a different vibe than it normally is here. I was excited by the big outdoor seating, but the food came out on paper plates and the furniture outside was not the most appealing. Some broken, blue tarps draped around, overturned garbage bins...wasn’t the most pleasant for my brunch ambiance. But the food was great and I can imagine that space is great especially in the summer as more of a beer garden in “normal” times so I don’t want to be too harsh on them. They have fire pits for evening that I’d like to go back and enjoy! Overall decent, but I’m sure will be much better in non-pandemic times.Note: seating is first come first serve. Patio has lots of seating and some heaters scattered around as well as a few bubbles and tent covered areas to sit.
I have attempted multiple times to use their order-online function only to have a message saying my order was missed and to call for more information...no answer and mailbox full message when calling. Id like to give the benefit of a doubt, busy is busy, but they dont give much to go off as far as information for customers. I have tried a few times, just to see if there is a pattern and their is, its them not paying any attention at all? Perhaps as a walk-in customer they are awesome, but the one time I went to walk in, they were closed with no signage or information. I would love to like this place, the one time I ate here (in 2010) they were very good.
Citizen is easily my new favorite breakfast spot! They have so many options, lots of sweets and savories, and even a few options with both! I can’t think of anything that could’ve been better, but I did overhear someone remark “no! no hashbrowns? how could they!” so maybe come prepared to get some cheesy breakfast potatoes instead if that’s your thing :)
I came here to check out what seems like a local spot in Uptown Seattle but the breakfast was not great and very overpriced. I truly believe I could have gotten a better meal at a Waffle House. If you are a foodie and expecting quality food do not come here. Also, watch out for the added gratuity to your ticket so you don’t over-tip.
The food was good - I got rhubarb waffle that I really loved but the coffee was very bitter. The space is gorgeous though. I would actually come here more often if only they opened during the weekdays. Oh well :(
The waffles and coffee are excellent. Unfortunately, I received cold food both times I called in my order and was told that it would be ready in 15 minutes. Seems like the estimated time given to pickup up called in orders are exaggerated so that they can give preference to their customers ordering in-person. Not ideal, since were all paying the same prices.
When we got to the restaurant we were allowed to pick any available table in their outdoor seating area. It was a beautiful day and a nice setting. At this eatery we are told to go outside the restaurant and order. They have a window that opens to the public sidewalk. After standing 5 minutes in line we place our order for 4 breakfasts. The young woman behind the window then takes my CC and as she turns around she says, as fast as she can, that my total comes to $83.65 including tax and an 18% automatic gratuity. Really? This has been totally self serve up to this point. So I ask, what the gratuity is for? She says it is so she can make a living wage and be paid fairly. Then she starts to get mad at me for asking and raises her voice and says she doesnt have to explain or justify her pay to me. I agreed with her on this point and subsequently apologized for offending her.Now I know what she gets. But I already knew that. My question is what do we as customers get for an automatic gratuity? By the way, automatic gratuity is exactly how it is printed on the CC receipt. At this establishment we get to stand in line to order and the opportunity to be embarrassed by snarky employees.I think this sneaky surcharge is dishonest. If it was printed on their menu perhaps it could be rationalized, but it isnt. This combined with the fact that I was virtually yelled at for asking the question has totally alienated me .
Currently this place is great on a nice day where you an sit outside and enjoy some drinks with plenty of space between people! This may change as things settle down after a rough 2020!?!They arent currently offering food, however youre allowed to either bring your own or at the very least there is a way to order food from next-door and bring it over.
I was impressed with their version of a cuban. I will be returning for another soon.Service and atmosphere was along with great food made the experience enjoyable.
Amazing vibes, in the heart of Seattle. This place has outdoor seating, patio furniture and nice music. They serve beer on tap, cocktails and Mexican snacks.Best part - they are dog friendly!
A nice place for hangout, drink or have breakfast. Happy hours are everyday 4 pm to 6pm. It’s a dog friendly place and have a nice courtyard to sit, relax or play games. Breakfast menu is not huge but they have varieties and it’s good. Sandwiches are good. They have quite a big drinks menu. People are cool and nice. There is a small camp fire area in the open area. Serving is quite fast and you don’t have yo wait long.
The food is amazing, the service is great. The patio is one of my favorites in Seattle. Savory waffles are delicious.
My friends and I had gotten drinks at this place one evening where they switched one of my friends card with another patron. Then made it extremely difficult to get her card back. We ate there the next morning for breakfast since overall we had a good time the night before. Waited 30 minutes to get our drinks which were wildly overpriced and were honestly a step above dishwater, waited another half hour to order our food and another half hour to get our food which was cold. Eggs were hardened from being left out and bread was stale, barely toasted and cold. The food is way to overpriced for what you get and to get basically inedible as well. Cool place to grab a drink but save yourself your money and just go to starbucks or a gas station.
LOVED the place - food was very quick and well seasoned (bulgogi salad), dog friendly and LOTS of seating, friendly staff!Wanted to give a warning to anyone considering parking their rides out there - it may get stolen/jacked up. Be careful, lock your stuff up and park in the garage close by.
Pork was not piled high on the $14 Korean sandwich, but was so skimpy it looked like the toast bread slices were sitting on each other. Less than 4oz of meat alongside borderline stale chips. Black coffee was also stale and bitter. For what its worth, the burritos and tacos at other tables looked ample and appealing. 🤷
We came from Chicago, googled this place, nice atmosphere gratuity included but service is 3/10, food is 5/10, coffee 7/10.
The restaurant has a good vibe to it but customer service is pathetic! I ordered an avocado toast which was literally burnt and charred. On showing that to the server, he said it is what we serve here! Really! does a restaurant serve a charred bread in name of crispy bread ? We had to take it to main window and had to talk to 2 different servers to get it replaced! This restaurant was a mood spoiler. I might not go here again for sure!
Small and nice place for coffee and breakfast. It was a little bit crowded but pretty sweet. The Cuban sandwich was not very authentic compared to the sandwich I had in Puerto Rico / Florida, but still churchy and fatty. The cappuccino was smooth and a little bitter. I like the milk foam over it.The waiter was really welcoming and made the breakfast experience really good.
Kurt behind the bar is the man! So nice and welcoming. And drinks were dynamite. Were pumped to be back at Citizen again soon!
Best outdoor seating Ive ever seen in Seattle. No view and the environment is makeshift but works so well. The food is exquisite as well. A must visit for me.
Really fun place. In the summers the backyard is amazing with games and a fireplace. The cocktails are great too but there can be a wait for food and coffee in the morning. Despite that the food, drinks, and location are worth coming here again and again, plus very friendly service. Nothing better than having a cocktail here in the summer at sunset with the space needle in the background.
Neat location. The menu unfortunately did not have a lot of vegan options. At least they were not indicated at all. Considering that we had to drop several ingredients from our dishes to make it vegan, it was too expensive. But hey, can’t beat having a view of the space needle.
Food was different, but in a good way. Fast and friendly staff. Pricey for the amount of food. 6oz cranberry juice was $3.50. Nothing unique about it. Atmosphere was chill.
Fun sitting outside and good on beyond. Jury still out on the food.
Fantastic coffee! The Golden Mylk is yummy, not too sweet. The staff is nice and somewhat helpful. We ordered a citizen breakfast sandwich, obviously contains and egg but the sandwich showed up with no egg. Told one of the deliverers and she very quickly sprang into action and apologized. She didnt take the sandwich away which we had bitten into not realizing right away it was missing the egg. And 10 minutes later brought us an egg. Very strange. Wouldnt you bring a whole new sandwich? The waffle is made with blue corn which gives it a really great crunch and flavor. The nutella waffle is more like a whip cream and strawberry waffle with a very light drizzle of...nutella? Ive never seen nutella drizzle so I question what this is. Also, it was so little, it was hard to actually get a full taste of it. But the waffle itself was yummy. The savory waffle was good not great. The cubano is not a cubano. Too much bread, pulled pork not sliced pork. Only one pickle and a slice of ham. It tasted good though. The breakfast sandwich with the egg is yummy albeit expensive for a small macrina bakery brioche roll with an egg sandwich with arugula and ham. Notice in the picture, they didnt even spread the arugula and ham out onto the sandwich. Half is arugula and half is crumpled up ham. The photo makes the sandwich look big but its about 2.5 inch roll, with one egg. The seating is mostly outdoor seating with a lot of fun places to sit. On the whole, the coffee was wonderful the food not as much. Its a fun place to meet with friends and sit outside so thats why I gave it a 4 star review instead of 3. Plus they add a 20% service charge on already expensive food items.
Loved the crepés and the adult coffee was delicious! Wish it was warm out when we went because it looked like they had a great outdoor space. They did an amazing job being festive for the holidays!Only downside was when we got seated the waitress continued to look at us but didn’t give us menus until we finally got her to come to our table after a few try’s, but the food was still amazing!
Probably the best breakfast Ive ever had! Great food, coffee, location, everything was perfect. We ended up coming to Citizen because the restaurant where we had initially planned on eating had an hour long wait but we are so happy we ended up coming here instead!
The place is small, the food took ages and it was not what I expected, no flavor at all. Definitely, I will never go back. The service was okay.
Horrible customer service, took over an hour to get food. Food is pulled with grease and sugar to make it seem appetizing. Food is overpriced. Dysfunctional environment. Would not recommend going until they up they’re game.
Everything is beyond over priced... food was either under cooked or over cooked... we received no attention from the staff... you have to wait in line to order food which is crazy considering the cost of everything... avoid at all cost
Good coffee but the service is not good.
The.Food.Was.Amazing. First of all they were open on a day where most businesses were closed due to the snow, on top of that the food was just delicious! We ordered the pear crepe, avocado toast and farmer’s breakfast. Simple recipes well executed with quality ingredients and perfect proportions, I’m so glad I stumbled across this gem, my new Seattle favorite!
Love this place! Good food, good drinks, great service, amazing vibe. Brunch 👍 Evening drinks 👍
Very cool bar in Queen Anne. Loved the atmosphere and the bubbles. Didnt love the drinks. $12 for a ton of ice and a small sample of the drinks you ordered was interesting. The staff are nice and loved the music so Ill be back. Please keep the bubbles even after the pandemic ends!
Pachow! Theyve got a great outdoor patio for summer drinks :)That being said their breakfast tacos went down with a wimper... Love the vibe but pick it up on the bfast team.
A very cozy spot to stop for breakfast before any vacation excursion. Also on the cheaper side believe it or not, youll spend nearly 20% more at a chain like IHOP with lower quality food so I think the choice is definitely clear when it comes down to it. Its also located very near to the popular hotel The Maxwell so if you happen to be staying there its a no brainier.
Great place for lunch. I love the apple bacon waffle and the honey lavender tea
Would not recommend, overpriced, an yet they use paper and plastic cups plates and cutlery. Not too mention was not even that good. Please save your self and choose somewhere else.
The food was good. Service was friendly. Drip coffee was not fantastic, better go with a proper coffee selection :)
I usually dont write reviews, but I went for the 1st time last night and ordered some food that had to be delivered. Im guessing the kitchen was closed or something, but everything about the cafe/bar was great except the food. It was a fusion of Korean/Mexican. The wings were super salty, the meat was extremely dry, and drenched in batter, the quesidilla was very bland, the nachos were also bland, soggy, and the beef was super dry. The chicken tenders were also very dry almost to the point it was jerky.
Citizen has mandated 20% gratuity after standing in line outside to order -- basically the service was carrying out food from the kitchen to the table. The help which the mandatory gratuity pays for have no idea about customer service. For example, they insist on having your order ready before approaching to pay cashier. On this date they had no waffles. Its possible the help cant write because there is no other reason not to have posted it on the single wall-mounted menu.Coffee is per cup - no drip service, even for breakfast! 😢The table numbers are large and easy to read. The posted notice about mandated gratuity is small with tiny print. It shows this restaurants #1 priority: its all for the efficiency of unappreciative staff who truly have no concept of customer service.
This place is SO WACK. This place was right across from my hotel and you would think they would open almost everyday because they would get so much business from the nearby hotels, and attractions but no they are only open on the weekends. They have a great menu, and really wanted to try out there foods but we couldnt :(
If you get here on a weekend be ready to see some chaos of unclean tables, piss poor service and attitude. Citizen is pet friendly and so a group of is opted to meet up over brunch there. Booking a table means hardly anything you would have to find one yourself and run around a few times to get it cleaned up. Our food arrived and our tables were not clean. Finally I had to go looking for a rag to clean up our table. Before all this you have to get into a Que to place your orders and ofcourse they will not serve you water even when you asked for it with your food. If this is the new way of eating at a restaurant I rather eat at home.BTW the Biscuits and gravy I ordered was not bad. Infact I can give three and half stars for the food, unfortunately the service sucks big time. Who ever is managing Citizen get your act together.
Excellent breakfast sandwich and cheesy potatoes. Their outdoor patio is super nice and dog friendly!
Way too slow for a taco. Service is good but kitchen is a race of turtles.
I had the Cowboy Casserole. It was filling but lacked flavor. Definitely could have used spices and seasonings. The Mimosas and Bloody Mary were also just okay. Everything is served like a picnic and you can eat outside which is nice. The staff are chill but not there to give you any exceptional service. Considering you are automatically charged 20% gratuity in the bill it was kind of weird. I say if you just craving brunch it will do the trick but overall it was just average at best.
We love coming here! It’s a short walk from our hotel which makes it super convenient.Their matcha latte is sooo good! You cannot go wrong here. Cappuccino good. Latte good. Tea goood.I love their special French toast. This time it was a berry mix. I always get a side of sausage.Their take on heuvos rancheros was pretty decent. Not too crazy on their green salsa. They need to up their salsa game just a bit lol.Biscuits and gravy were heaven and their crepes are crazy good!
I knew from previous reviews we were taking a chance here, but it was close to the hotel and the kids wanted crepes while I was craving something savory with Mexican flavors . I was pleasantly surprised when we were greeted before reaching the entry and our group of 5 was promptly seated. Our server was friendly but the indoor space looks like it is pieced together from shipping containers and reno rejects with paper-patched holes in the wall and potlight bulbs hanging out of the ceiling. The food had good flavor but the potatoes came cold and when I asked for them to be reheated I was promised a fresh order that didnt arrive before we finished everything else and asked for the bill. They didnt even discount anything for the portion of my plate that was inedible. Next time Ill try Portage Bay Cafe.
Great coffee and crepes! Definitely the place to go if youre looking to treat your self to an amazing breakfast. Sarah was our server and she was fantastic! Service is fast, even though it is always super busy. Maybe add more heaters to the side building seating because the door is always open in the colder months.
Vibe, seating, and outdoor area gets five stars. Much more a drinking hangout place to me. The food was good but nothing crazy. Can’t wait to come back once it’s warm and enjoy the patio more.
The worst cafe Ive ever been to. Very unprofessional. Terrible experience, very cheap environment, for too high of prices. Burnt the food, tried to over compensate with syrup and butter but came out even worse. As well as it took 1 hoir and 15 minutes to even get our food,, outrages. The room was addition was so cheaply built and terrible background music. Could not have had a worse time at this cafe.
The best food experience of my time in Seattle, hands down. Chorizo is on point. I also had the Mexican Mocha and that was phenomenal.
Patio, patio, patio. Incredible food but careful, huge portions.
We ordered breakfast burrito and another platter. The food is just mediocre. You can find a better option even from hotel room service, no offense but just telling the true experience. The coffee tastes terrible. The worst thing is, they charged me and my wife 20% gratitude automatically, with no service for sure. Why? ? ? All in all, very awful experiences and would recommend you going somewhere else, period.
The wait is so long for a mediocre average overpriced food. Better option in the area like the Portage Bay.
Very cool coffee/breakfast place! I had a delicious Pear Crepe paired with a the Nutella mocha. The mocha was good but It tasted nothing like Nutella in it, more like a regular mocha. My aunt had a almond latte that she said was very good. We sat upstairs which was a cool area. The waiter was very friendly with us. However we did run into one issue here. I ordered a yogurt parfait to go for my girlfriend who has a tree nut allergy which I didn’t take into account. So we called before she consumed it and they could not tell us which tree nuts were in the granola. He was very vague and just like yeah it has some nuts in it. Even when we asked specifically which ones he could not give us an answer so she ultimately did not eat it.
Today was my second time having breakfast at this place and I love it. Food is delicious and folks are very nice. Plus their outdoor seating is beautiful and relaxing. Will surely keep coming here regularly.
Quirky decor, good food.
The hot chocolate just tasted like a hot liquid, not even fake chocolate, I paid $27 and some change for that and a single waffle. They don’t disinfect tables in between people, or at least that’s what I saw twice, and it was not busy when I was there. Don’t recommend I could easily have a better meal at home
Citizen is the best breakfast spot in town. My wife and I ate regularly here and we love the sweet or salty options they have. From traditional eggs and sausage to crepes and pancakes, Citizen adds an interesting take that makes it unique and enjoyable. If you visit you have to try their barrel aged maple latte, it is terrific!
Biscuits were a little to hard with the Biscuits and gravy. But the Breakfast Tacos were 🔥🔥🔥🔥
