Big bakery with a lot to offer from french viennoiserie to danish pastries, as well as sandwiches.I had a roast beef open face sandwich and it was very delicious, fresh ingredients and gourmet flavor. Their croissants are good too, not as flaky as I liked but it smells good and the size is generous.Service was friendly. There are a few small tables outside on the street.

One of my favorite bakeries in Seattle - its under the radar but not really (by which I mean its not on a ton of food media lists but its quite busy regardless). Ive never had a bad pastry here. Do know that while the pastries might seem a little pricey, theyre very big so youd be smart to share them or just eat half at once

One of those local hole-in-the-wall bakeries with reliable fresh baked goods, pastries, and hot drinks. You’ll find regulars there from the surrounding Queen Anne neighborhood and on weekends visitors traveling from out of the city stopping by. My favorites - any croissant, apricot mazarin tart

My second time visiting them. The store is pretty small but well-organized. On the right side of the store, closest to the entrance, is the traditional Scandinavian breads (mostly wheat, rye, and molasses-based) and coffee breads. In the middle of the store behind glass are cookies and some other breads. The portion furthest from the door are the tarts and cakes, which is probably what theyre best-known for, including the princess cake.Whole cakes are $40-60, which may be typical for small bakery cakes, but Im not sure. I ordered a seasonal lavender lemon cake last year for a birthday. Aesthetically, it was very pleasing and the aroma and taste were wonderful. They also give you the option of an icing message on the cake. Would get again on special occasions. This time, I got a baguette and croissant. The croissant was $4 which is typical in this area. However, its the biggest croissant Ive ever seen. Obviously, the inside is porous (see pictures), but thats just a sign of the bread having risen. Among other Seattle croissants Ive tried, this croissant was subtly sweeter and less buttery. I think it struck a great balance between fermenting which I think helped give it sweetness and inner porosity, and flakiness from the laminated butter. Because this croissant wasnt so buttery, it was very light and I was able to eat it in one sitting, which hasnt been my experience with other, French-style croissants here. If it were warmer or fresh out of the oven, I think this would have been the best croissant Ive had in Seattle for the taste, texture, and value. I highly recommend it.The rosemary and sea salt baguette was nice and chewy and aromatic. Flavorful, but not yeasty. At $4.50, it was an okay value. They sell coffee, too, but I think its a bit pricey when you consider that there are cafes in the area that specialize a bit more in coffee drinks. They seem to get their beans from Fonté, which is local in Seattle. They also have some ceramics and goods from local Scandinavian artists/craftspeople.I definitely recommend visiting this place at least once. You cant go wrong with anything you get.

To say I’m obsessed with this bakery would be an understatement. By far one of the cutest spots I’ve been to in Seattle and even more so because of its unassuming spot on Nickerson.Amazing chai tea and the best chocolate cake (outside of my Mother-In-Laws)... oh and the cookies! So tasty, their big cookie can feed a small army. The staff is super friendly and really knowledgeable on everything they offer.Definitely worth a visit and will be swinging back soon!

They made us a lovely and delicious birthday cake! We requested lemony and the flavors were wonderfully balanced. The cake looked lovely & tasted amazing! The quality of the actual cake was great, so were the delicate little macaroons on top. This is now our go-to place for cakes and I look forward to exploring their other offerings.

Very good pastry flavor -- I think they use good butter. The pastries are also pretty balanced in their sweetness; of course some are more sweet than others but I dont think they go overboard, which is good. The croissants are flaky and the layers are light and distinct, and most importantly, they arent burnt. I recommend this bakery!

We were so excited to come here since we are from Denmark. We are a family with 3 kids so 5 of us. They currently have a rule of 6 people can enter, so that mean that others were waiting in a small line because of us. We bought for $50 of baked goods and before we even got our order the female cashier who was apparently bothers by us taking up the store of 6 policy, yells out to an other customer who is asking if they can come in, “ as soo as these people get out of here” in a degrading voice looking right at me and my kids!!! I left right then and the other kind cashier had to run out after us to give us 2 more boxes full. I have never been yelled at in a store before and she will be the reason we will not come back! Not kid friendly! The baked goods were okay, the cold ones were not fresh and definitely been frozen and re thawed. Not how the Danes would do it.

Why is this the best bakery ever? Their chocolate croissants are amazing, their almond croissant is a little too heavy but the flavor is perfect. The sandwiches are delicious, there’s one with cardamom mayo which is amazing! I have tried most of their offerings, my recommendations are the classic chocolate croissant, the plain croissant, ham and cheese croissant, chocolate boller (filled with creme), and the Marion berry cheese danish! Ive wanted to visit Byen Bakeri for awhile but dont go out to this part of Seattle very often. Luckily I found myself in the area on a Sunday and popped in. I was kindly greeted by an employee and then found myself amongst a multitude of pastries, breads, and cakes. Ive been to other Scandinavian places in Seattle as well as some Scandinavian countries and I liked what I saw at Byen Bakeri. They had many pastries, croissants, cookies, cakes, tarts, baguettes, round loaves, etc. They also were offering smorrebrod sandwiches. The décor was simple but handsome with some dark walls and bright yellow accents. It was very reminiscent of Scandinavian aesthetics. I ended up getting a butterhorn with maple drizzled over it, an almond chocolate croissant, an almond horn, and some thumbprint cookies. Everything was delicious. I especially liked the thumbprint cookies with the rich cookie and the tart and sweet raspberry jam. The butterhorn was also really tasty and lived up to its name with the flaky and buttery texture. I had a great experience with Byen Bakeri and will be back soon. I have my eye on cardamom buns, some bread, and some cakes.
