I did the tour which lasted right about 50 minutes. I got to try about 15 different types of chocolate and then they give you a discount code for their store which has exclusive flavors not distributed outside of the Seattle area. Overall an amazing experience!!!I wish we could have seen more of the process in action, but that timing is difficult with tours. I was just happy that they were open to tours after being closed for 18 months due to Covid!
$12 factory tour was SO worth it! You learn a lot of new things and get to sample a ton of chocolate. Great for kids and adults alike. They are also very accommodating with allergies (dairy, nuts) and offer alternatives if you can’t sample one type. Their vegan chocolate made with coconut cream is delicious!I loved the variety of unique chocolates in the store. Their confectionery area had some interesting flavors (walla walla onion caramel) that are worth a try.
Theo Chocolate is a fine maker of chocolate and provides back to the community from which they source their beans. The shop is a great example of what choclatiers should aspire to showcase. So many flavors were available, many of which arent readily available or even that are totally exclusive to this location. Dont arrive too hungry or you may overload yourself on their chocolate! But would that really be a problem?
Rating for mini shop in flagship building:Customer service needs major improvements. Went in and was greeted and... that was it. No other customers, and the 2 employees behind the counter conversed about their lives.Youd expect a showcase of available chocolate OR a selling pitch of whats available (tours, etc.). But, NOTHING.Poor experience, and not what youd expect from a flagship. Let alone a chocolate factory. Was really disappointed. Bought a few bars and left.No Is this your first time here?No Could I show you (this)? No May I recommend you try (this)?Nothing but the 2s talk of vacationing and life events echoed in the mini shop...Management, watch your cameras and see your employees interactions with customers. Poor.Side note, Id love to tour the factory some day. Just please keep me away from the mini shop, until customer experience & service is greatly improved.
You know its good when you can smell the chocolate as youre walking on the street.Workers were friendly, chocolate flavors were unique, and the complimentary chocolate bar was definitely a plus.In my small box, I got lavender cucumber, hazelnut, black velvet, and key lime. Have yet to try the latter three, but the lavender cucumber was very interesting. (Im a huge fan of lavender).
The factory tour was great! We ended up with a private tour because no one else booked the same time slot. Aaron was super knowledgeable, and it was interesting to hear the background about how he designed the tour. I did the same tour with my family 7 years ago, and both times were enjoyable. We got to taste a lot of chocolate, and my husband loved it! Highly recommend.
Brief but knowledgeable tour. Went with family. Small group tour in total. Proof of vaccination and masks are required. Hand sanitizer stations located at doors. Tour guide was knowledgeable and nice. Several samples of various chocolate to taste from different times of the chocolate process. You dont actually enter the plant. Its a windowed room where you can see almost all of the facility. After tour, she walked us to the attached store where they have local only items! Very interesting and worth the visit.
Interesting tour to see how chocolates are made. I like their rich texture esp. milk chocolate!
The chocolate and shop is very nice. It is clean. The layout is easy to navigate. It is easy to decipher how much things cost. The shop also has a wide variety of items to purchase. However the customer service is in need of an upgrade. The lady that helped me was rude. Me and my girlfriend purchased a decent amount of things. I simply asked her if she could throw away a paper bag. She flat out refused. It is weird that you can purchase so much. Money obviously used to pay her salary and she could not throw away an empty paper bag. If you shop here be prepared to deal with rude employees.
An amazing tiny shop to visit. They have all of their products. Being from the area, I can find most of the bars in stores and was super happy to find they have a counter with chocolates made in shop and some other items in the shop not in local stores or online.I would highly recommend prioritizing getting those things you will only find in the store as it is all amazing, then go for the commercially packaged items (also amazing).
I booked the Theo chocolate factory experience tour. This tour was more of a tasting experience then a factory experience. Various samples of their chocolates were provided but very little information was provided about how they actually manufactory their chocolates at the facility. You dont even get to watch very much of the process.Additionally, our tour guide provided an extremely unpleasant experience. Constantly using sarcasm to make guests feel uncomfortable. At the no point in the tour was there opportunity to ask questions and the guide made no attempt to answer questions.I would not recommend this tour. Save your money and buy their chocolates if you are interested in sampling various varieties, it will save you time and money.
Pierce gave a fun filled factory experience that was worth far more than the $12 they charged. His happy, playful attitude brought the tour to life and his games and questions made learning new things fun. Topping it all off was a discount to the shop that could easily save the $12 spent on the tour with all the delicious options for sale including some items only available in that shop. If youre in the area and want to spend an hour having a great time this is the best possible option!
The factory tour was a fun and knowledgeable experience. Our tour guide was on point and made it an interactive experience. Free samples were the best part for sure, but one recommendation is to include a few more milk chocolate flavors in the sampling options. Theo has the best peanut butter cups out here and the prices of their chocolate in the flagship store were very reasonable!
Took the factory tour which had samples of their great chocolate! Book a tour if you go to the Freemont Markets!
The chocolate is extremely good. The staff is nice. Our guide pierce was fun, well knowledge and caring. He made us feel like family. I cant Express how he went above and beyond.
Love their tour! Such a cool company. It was a very reasonable price with lots of samples! Ive been telling everyone about it. I also appreciate how covid safe they are!
Love the chocolate, the options and the commitment to a better, more fair business community.
We had Pierce as a tour guide and in just an hour, we had so much fun and learned so much about chocolate! We also got to sample plenty! Would definitely recommend this for a fun, low-cost activity for anybody.
Love coming to the Theo Chocolate gift shop to get some treats- they used to offer a bunch of samples in store but have since removed that for Covid. I recently did their chocolate factory experience which isnt much of a tour as it is a learning experience. For $12, you get to sample some chocolate and learn about how chocolate is made through a slideshow presentation.
The tour was great, very informative and fun. Plus for the price you really get your moneys worth. The chocolate options were great and they were very accommodating. We will be coming back!
Great place, everyone here cares about what they are doing. Our tour guide was fantastic and we learned a lot and had some great chocolate
What an experience and a wonderful way to learn more about chocolate making. The place is pretty small and the tour is only an hour, but its completely worth it. On top of that, you get to have so many chocolate samples which makes the tour so much better. You even get to try the chocolate before any sugar is added and once a bunch of sugar is added. Its definitely a new way to experience chocolate and I really found our tour guide friend, enthusiastic, and I loved how she taught people who werent big fans of dark chocolate on how to savor it in order to slowly take your time on tasting it. That and I also really liked how she said taste as much chocolate from all over the world. And how you can taste the different cacao beans used and what not. That was really cool, to me.Anyway, if youre ever in Seattle or even if you live here and havent experienced Theo Chocolate and the tour, I highly recommend it; especially for those chocolate lovers out there!
Great tour. It lasts about an hour & a half. Great for a day out in the Fremont area. You are so get a discount in the factory store. They talk a lot about their humanr supply chain. You also learn a lot about chocolate from Farm to Bar. You also get to taste a bunch of chocolate. You get to see the factory. The build itself is pretty cool. It used to be a trolley barn, Red Hook Brewery and a clown school among things.
Really kind and helpful staff. The $12 factory tour was not worth it. Learned nothing new about chocolate making. However excellent gift shop for local high quality treats.
Local chocolate factory in historical warehouse. Knowledgeable and personable tour guide” for our session. Half is video and Q&A, and half is seeing the factory from a glass walled room. Lots of chocolate to taste and overall a great learning experience for chocolate lovers. Cute retail shop with loads of samples. Friendly and helpful store staff. Highly recommend trying the “Big Daddy” and Toffee.
Highly recommend doing a tour when visiting the store - it’s a 1-hr excursion, I learned so many things about chocolate that I had no idea about before! The company is organic and fair-trade, chocolate is of high quality (and delicious!!!), the store has lots of merchandise, not just chocolate. If you do an excursion, you will have lots of chocolate to taste, plus you receive a discount on purchases in the store. Parking available.
Fun tour of factory. Great chocolate 🍫 😋
The smell catches your attention from a block away! Very delicious.
Their factory experience was wonderful as were all the chocolates!
Just love Theos chocolate! The shop is fun, lots of samples (precovid)
Theo chocolate factory tour is nice, there are tasting along the way and in the end youll get about 20% off while shopping at their factory store, so if you are visiting and want a gift, go for the tour and youll even enjoy yourself then get gifts at a discount! In their store, great selection of chocolate, fair trade and organic! There are vegan options too! High quality products and very nice gifts all around the store.Friendly staff all around!
Im chocolate lover, but I dont just eat any chocolate, as a matter of fact, I rarely eat chocolate, why? Most chocolate in Supermarket, chain stores, or candy shop are not of good quality. When I visit the Theo chocolate factory, they have guided tour cost only$10, and its very educational, I learn a great deal of knowledge regarding chocolate manufacturing. After the tour, you can stay in the shop and do some chocolate tasting, its a great experience.
Lovey chocolate made with forethought and consideration for the whole supply chain. The tour is short but worthwhile.
Great chocolate, expensive but worth a visit.I have been there about 4 times. Nice area for a walk afterwards to by the river
Do not pass this place. Take the tour, you wont regret it.
I mean, its chocolate. Chocolate is good. But theres nothing special about this kind. Its just okay I guess. Its $8 for 4 small pieces of chocolate. I guess its expensive because its fair trade? In any event, I dont think its worth going to more than once.
Excited to see flavors not found in local food market.
Had a chocolate tour with Amber at Theo Chocolate. Tried out some nibs, which I just cant seem to develop a taste for. Saw the whole process of chocolate making from cacao beans from the Congo and Peru. Only organic and fair trade chocolate in North America. Only shipped to Canada and USA. Bought some yummy bars for gift giving when we get home. Walked by the Fremont Canal before the tour. Very beautiful area.
Best chocolate tour very informative. Already went on it 4x with all friends that visit. I insist on taking this tour. Lots of great samples, info about chocolate as well as what makes the chocolate that comes out of Theos special. Youll find out once you do the tour. The tours samples of latest convections are amazing. Stuff you cant get in the shop. (Which also has tons of samples of other specialty chocolates)All in all I always go back there when family and friends want something seasonal that they have. Latest one my mother in law was extremely happy with me (brownie points with the wife) was their licorice chocolate bar.Always some new awesome chocolate to try whenever I go about 4x a year hah.
Fantastic tour from one of the select places that will go from bean to chocolate on premise. Excellent way to learn about the chocolate making process from one of the best. Really cant go wrong with any of their chocolates. They do sell some specialty items only available here and not at stores. Worth a visit. They basically let you sample almost anything they have. Staff are super friendly and helpful.
Chocolates, baking chocolates and gift boxes... everything a chocoholic needs to be happy! Very helpful staff and a small, nice clean store.
Delicious and Willy Wonka vibe. Lots of fun.
The store was clean and well-stocked. The staff was friendly and helpful. And the chocolate is amazing!
The smells r amazing even b 4 u go inside ... Wide variety of milk white dark n extra dark chocolates n toffee n bark to choose from ... They r fair trade yay! N donate locally off purchases to those impacted by covid plus donate for other countries undated with war n violence like the Congo ... Will go back again n again due to their humanitarian efforts to help others plus they have tours u can take on site to watch chocolate making ... Only draw back is the chocolate is very pricey ... Go with n open wallet for chocolate lovers
Great time at the chocolate bark class tonight. Staff were amazing, over the top with service. Friendly, welcoming, educational... They taught us so much about chocolate, and we had a lot of fun with all the combinations. Definitely recommend their classes!! It was fantastic, a perfect evening making chocolate and indulging in deliciousness!! Yum!! Hats off to Theo chocolate!! Thank you!
A must-visit for any fan of dark chocolate. Im partial to the coconut, but they have a lot of other great flavors and different levels of chocolate concentration. Of course, the bars are sold in most grocery stores these days, but you should still go in for the tour--they are very generous with the samples, and you can get to try some things that may not be available in the shop.
You can find Theo branded chocolate at a lot of stores here in Seattle. I’ve seen it so many times that I knew it was necessary to come here for a visit. The cinnamon horchata flavored chocolate was sold out at every store we’ve been to, so when I saw that they had boxes and boxes full of the cinnamon horchata, I knew to buy a couple to bring back to family and friends.
This was a fantastic tour!!! I recommend signing up in advance. It starts with a class packed full if information about chocolate from how its made, where the beans grow, and how to make it fair trade and organic. I dont know how Ill be able to look at chocolate the same way again. Unfortunately they dont run on weekends unless its peak holiday time, so try to go during a weekday to see the roaster in action. You get to go into this other nicely decorated room and the guide (who was amazing) shows you all the machines and what they do. The tour is full of chocolate samples and almost like a wine tasting of chocolate tasting. I think the tour really made the day.
Chocolate was just okay, I tried most samples nothing caught me.
I just tasted the Salted Black Licorice, and found it delicious. However, when paired with Capt Morgan Private Stock, it is exquisite. I dont know how much rum, it would take to enjoy a full bar, but I may find out! Thanks for making this!
The team at Theo Chocolate are wonderful to work with! I assisted in ordering our corporate client holiday gifts from them this year and it was such an easy and positive experience. Not only was the process seamless, but we received rave reviews from our clients. I would definitely order from Theo Chocolate again in the future.
Theo is named after the scientific name of the cacao tree, Theobroma cacao. The tropical evergreen tree that thrives between twenty degrees latitude above and below the equator. The company is known and proud of their organic and fair trade background as well as the only bean to bar company with those accolades in the United States. The chocolate is wonderfully sweet for the milk chocolate fans, but their dark chocolate is exceptional!
We had an awesome tour and our tour guide, Andrew, was amazing!
If you are a chocolate lover this is a must see. Their certified organic fare trade chocolates and candies are the best. They also have a wonderful factory tour with a description of how chocolate is made, how Theos business has been heavily involved in sustainable organic farming and ensuring a fare price is being paid for the product.
Probably a tad too costly for a visit to the Theo Factory. The host had a very good knowledge on what information needs to be imparted. The trip started within a room where you get info on where+why they source their cocoa beans and how they use the cocoa beans. Soon they transfer you to a room to where you can see the factory equipments, but within a glass enclosure. It is really fun to see these equipments and imagine how the whole process of making chocolate occurs. The only great part of this whole process is, the free tasting of chocolates. You can taste every kind of chocolate made in the plant. Also they provide the tour goers a 20% discount on all products bought post the tour in the store.
This is our new favorite chocolate place. We went for their broken bar sale. The event was from 9 am-noon. When we got there just before 9, the line was already a block long. It was well worth the wait and very well organized. At $10/lb for a selection of flavors and 20% off the rest of our purchase by buying 3+ bags of broken bars, it was a great deal. The free reusable bag was a nice touch. We have gone on the tour in the past, which is very informative. It is not something I would do again unless family was in town, but fun to do at least once to hear about the process and see the machinery.
The famous chocolatier has a quaint shop here. Get all the regular bars, holiday and seasonal specials, gift box sets, AND cocoa nibs by the pound! Also the only place to find individual chocolate truffles. Today I found these lovelies: basil ganache, walla walla onion-infused caramel, and saffron! My partner is trying the beer flavored box set. We’re excited for these! I definitely recommend. You can get lots of their chocolate bars in grocery stores around Seattle and coops and natural food stores around the US, but this is the place for truffles and nibs!
Friendly staff. Chocolate and honey were tasty.
My eyes were 😳 stuck to see the plenty of varieties in the Chocolates and believe me ppl I never had seen these varieties ever before. Love the quality of chocolates and they are just yummy 😋 and only yummy! if have never visited till date then just dont waste your time and do visit. Its worth visiting 🥰!!!
Amazing handmade chocolate. Delicious flavors. When I went I took the tour and it was totally worth it.
My fave is the orange, dark chocolate bar.
Great tour!!! GOOD samples!!!! Friendly people.
Awesome! Great coffee shops nearby!
Ooooo! The smell of rich chocolate wafted in the entire area! I was actually on an errand in the neighborhood and had found parking near by. I couldn’t resist the fragrance and decided to check them out!Their chocolate is deli-yummy-cious!! I bought a couple of boxes for friends and family and everyone liked it too! 😊 I loved the grapefruit, ginger one! I am definitely going back to try more of their chocolate! And, if you’re around, stop by their shop!!
From a product and quality standpoint, Theo is amazing. The way they source their chocolate, the fact that they stand for workers rights and fair trade overseas, and that they make everything in small batches (sometimes super small batches by hand for some fun flavor combinations) are all reasons to support and love this company. Plus their chocolate really is delicious.Unfortunately, my review is based on the most recent chocolate tasting I went to just before Valentines Day. It was a chocolate and cheese pairing that I discovered was available through their site back in December. When I signed up, there was no indication -anywhere- that the tasting cost anything (which at the time was pleasantly surprising). I received an email confirmation and it indicated the same thing - no fee was due - and a link that took me directly to my confirmation to show all the details for the tasting - again no fee or price listed.Almost 2 months later, I receive a phone call from someone telling me he needs to collect payment over the phone (in the amount of $50/person) and that he would need my credit card information. He explained that they dont have a way to pay online and they they require everyone to call in with their payment information to secure their seats. I told him I would review the emails sent to me and get back to them (because honestly this sounded really fishy...).I checked all the emails and confirmation links I had and there was no indication of there being a price. I went back to the website and it looked like they had revamped it because the UI looked much better, you could actually find classes, AND -bonus- tasting classes now had prices on them. I really wish I had taken screenshots of the website when I initially signed up for this... But who could have predicted that I would be forced to pay $50 per person a few days before the event.I didnt feel comfortable paying by credit card over the phone so I went to Theo Chocolate on my day off to inquire (because no one responded to my email). The two people working that day, that I explained this to, were unphased. Neither of them wanted to correct the situation and neither expressed genuine concern that this had happened and that I came all that way to address it. (Does this happen often??)The man that rang up the charge (after everything I showed them to prove what I went through) must have been the same person that called me because he was the one confirming it would be $50/person and then when he began to charge it he realized it was only $40/person. ....At that point I really wanted to stop him and ask for proof because every step of the way had been different information.I chose to get my receipt instead and move on because this was a Valentines date I had already told my partner about and we were both looking forward to it. How could I go to him and say - well you know, I know we both really wanted to go but I just couldnt go through with it based on this experience.Furthermore - for $80+ we should have at the very least been able to choose a chocolate to take home with us. They offered a 20% discount on anything in the store after the tasting but... The chocolate is very expensive and wed already spent $80. (They say that youll get plenty of chocolate to take home with you but they mean you can take the broken bits you cant finish...)-- The highlight of the event were absolutely the instructors. They made the experience fun and educational and we learned a lot about the company and their process.I would do this again if the prices were around $15-25/person (and it would be nice to be able to have a little take-away) but only if I can securely pay online and the prices are accurately listed and recorded in the confirmation. Theres really no excuse for not being able to do this.(Photos included are of the event and of my email and booking confirmation. The only photo missing is the one of the half a grilled cheese sandwich everyone got. I was starving by this point so I ate this without taking a photo.)
Very good group of people
I heard rave reviews about this place so we took a trip over this past Saturday. Maybe our expectations were too high because we were all pretty disappointed; the store has maybe 10 flavors of chocolate in bars parsed around this gigantic space to make it look like there are 70. But the sad thing is the chocolate itself - I would say its pretty bad. From lemon, to raspberry, to coconut, to salted, it all seemed stale and waxy despite expiration dates of 2022. I know none of us will finish it.
Great company, great chocolate. Dont expect the tour to be like Charlies though. Educational, fun, to the point. The first part of the tour is in a church like setting (church of chocolate?) with a lesson on where chocolate comes from and how its turned into what we all love, complete with tasting. The second part is a look through glass at the machines and a lesson on what each machine in the process does. You end in the gift shop with another tasting and a 20% off coupon, which is needed since the tour is $10 a person except every third Thursday, that day is free.
Sooo freaking good! Just walking outside, you can smell the chocolate being mixed inside the factory just enough to lead you to the front door! Didn’t have time to go on the tour but they had samples in the store, which was already a huge plus for me! Got the ginger flavored dark chocolate and oh my gosh please get the BIG DADDY marshmallow pack! And they don’t tax the chocolates 💕
Just FYI starting August 23, 2021, we will be requiring all guests age 12 and over who attend the Factory Experience to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test result that is dated no more than 48 hours prior to the day of their experience.
