A nice selection of new and used books but what makes the place so lovely is the person keeping shop. They were warm, welcoming, kind, charismatic and funny. They are also really knowledgeable, upon checkout, noticing the titles I was purchasing, they recited a poem from a similar book. The hospitality alone is worth the trip.
I love lamplight book! I’ve been there twice already and both times I’ve walked out with more than one book. Great selection and amazing quality. The cashiers have definitely been helpful in finding and providing input on titles.
Super sweet bookstore overflowing with awesome finds at great prices! Wonderful staff as well
Loved this store! One of the highlights of my recent visit to the iconic Pike Place Market. The man who was running Lamplight Books, whom I assume to be the owner, was incredibly kind and hilarious. Definitely a must-visit and reasonable prices for some awesome books or postcards. 10/10 would recommend.
I love visiting this bookstore! Customer service is far higher quality than what you’ll get anywhere else. The guy helping us this time (I think he’s the owner!) was hilarious, knowledgeable, and kind. When my cousin asked for cash back to pay for her bus ticket, he let us know that they don’t do cash back, but gave her a dollar from his own “emergency stash”. So kind and unexpected! Books are reasonably priced too. Overall an excellent place, even if you don’t buy any books & just stop by and chat with the owner.
This was the best part of the market that day! I could have spent the whole afternoon in there; the clerk(owner?) was a charming, hilarious oddball, and I spent way more than I should’ve on paperbacks and the brilliant selection of cards.
A wonderful little bookstore! I assume the owner was the gentleman that helped us. He was hilarious and witty and kept us laughing. I found some great books that I haven’t seen elsewhere. For my toddler niece, I found children’s board book about science, physics and a handful of other great topics, along with a Little Golden Book about MLK and one about the Moon landing. We would go back specifically to chat with the owner, he was so much fun and was the highlight of our day.
Super cute & such a hidden gem!! LOVE
Really cool local used bookstore with great stock of tons of options across multiple categories. Great location tucked into the market as well.
My best experience at Pikes Place was at Lamplight. The owner has an incredibly curated collection of books for sale. I couldve easily spent half the day browsing.
The lady who helped me was quite friendly and the selection of books was pretty good. Right away she was able to help point everyone in the store towards whatever they inquired about, so she was quite knowledgable too. I was actually surprised that they had a few obscure works which had been difficult to find in both the Philosophy and Metaphysics sections. What I most appreciated about my experience was that while there was no budging on price (I was hoping that since it was in a market I could haggle a bit), when I was checking out the lady saw the books I was buying and made a suggestion of a different book store in Pioneer Square that she recommended I visit. Of course, I did... and her suggestion was 100% on point. Friendly, Helpful, and Fun - I highly recommend Lamplight Books.
Amazing bookstore. It feels like I’ve warped back to the 90s. Love it!
Wonderful little bookstore with a great selection and helpful staff. The literature section is extensive and has a variety of gems. Other sections include Pacific Northwest history, anarchy, and a whimsically titled shelf of Shakespeare. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the market.
I browsed here often when I lived in Seattle. One of the best book shops in the country by far. The outdoor racks were always full of surprises. I miss that place!
Great prices on the books but the man at the counter was extremely rude and belittled my mother for asking a question about how the books were sorted. He then didnt say a word to get as she politely checked out using her please and thank yous.Customer service was very disappointing and turned our trip to the bookstore into the worst part of our trip to pikes place. Not likely to ever return.
Staff is nice, and theres a nice selection of new and old books you havent seen everywhere. Because of its size, you cant expect to walk in and find anything youre looking for: this bookstore is for browsing. Pricing is typically half price off full.
Awesome book store. Whoever is working there is bound to be clever and possessed of a dry wit, not unlike the owner, Joe.
The perfect bookshop. Small, cozy, staff who love books, theyll order almost any book you can possibly want. I could browse in here forever.
Small, but with a terrific selection and immense amount of care put into the stock. If you like literary fiction from the last two centuries, philosophy, criticism, history, AND a very solid smattering of more popular stuff, Lamplight will be extremely satisfying. Im not sure Ive ever been in a used bookstore with no junk: except here.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. A rare oasis located in the morass of evil.
Nice little book shop. There are definitely some treasure to be found here and the staff was friendly and helpful.
Great book store with many hidden treasures for the avid reader.
Best of the three used bookstores I hit at the market area. Great selection.
Awesome finds, great pricing
