Always the kindest people, both in service and as patrons. Get your beautiful new and like-new books, grab a coffee and a bite to eat outside or in, read about the history of Couth Buzzard through news articles over the years on the walls, shop local photography and art, and even reserve a place Wednesday nights with your vaccination card and your mask to enjoy incredible Open Mic talent. The music is wonderful! Masks are currently (Aug 2021) required while not actively eating/drinking.Wifi and bathroom available for paying customers. They have art and craftsmanship from local artists, and photography and such on the walls, much of which is for sale.Theyre a small business in a small location filled with big hearts, big history, and amazing people.Overall:Quality people, great food and drink, beautiful experiences every time, and shelves and shelves of books waiting for a friendly home. :)Give them your support in these crazy times and I promise you that it will be more than worth it!!
The owner is very knowledgeable and nice. Interesting selections of drink plus booze! There is a nice sitting area to relax also. Cant reccomend more!
Lovely local used and new bookshop, with regular community events such as live music or discussion groups. Also, their hot cocoa is very good.
Wonderful bookstore. I love coming here and have for years. The owner is super helpful and conversational.
Couth Buzzard is absolutely one of my favorite small businesses in Seattle and has been for years. They have great new titles, unexpected used gems, great local crafts and artwork. Good snacks and cafe drinks. Ive had many an invigorating night at their concerts and open mics. Cant wait until we can gather and share music again! Dont skip this great bookstore while in Greenwood. And if you see Sara the manager give her some love.
This is a great business that maintains the spirit of Seattle from the 90s. A cure local bookstore with a good selection of used books. They host lovely concerts here as well, including jazz.
Wonderful book store. They got everything. Weird books check. Old books check. Local authors check. Good food check.
It was just terrific to be back at the Buzzard. The best kept secret of Phinney Ridge. Books for everyone. Quite place to read or great place to bring together a small group for conversation.
I love stopping in here about once a week with my pup to browse their selection and get a delicious mocha. Their recommendation layout in front never fails to capture my attention, and I love how it takes current issues in mind (ex. Social Justice). I do wish their New Age/Occult section was bit more robust and up to date, but Im picky in that field. Thank you for being my friendly little escape for the last few months!
Fantastic little book store with a delightful cafe. Friendly staff and a full calendar of events.Due to its uniqueness and the trend of tearing down places that offer some character to the community, I fear for the longevity of this place without your business. Please support your local businesses. We dont need more ugly unaffordable condos.
Couth Buzzard is a cool spot for books (new and used) community (groups for writing, music, art, etc) and tiny cafe (coffee, drinks, sandwiches, etc) Eclectic space.
One of my favorite bookstores in Seattle! Theo and his staff are wonderful. They give you great trade-in credit on your used books (when its not COVID affected). The store itself features a great selection of both new and used books, as well as a small cafe and space for live music. Dont miss this Seattle gem in the Greenwood neighborhood!
Apart from the books and coffee, there are events that happen every week.
I called to see if they were open and had a pleasant chat with Theo. Upon going into the store I was greeted with a warm smile and a new sense of belonging. Please continue to support this wonderful store. I left with a few items and a cool spot to grab books from.
A used bookstore like they used to be! Go in and wander the aisles and discover new titles. The inventory is eclectic so it might not have an exact title you want, but if you love books, youll definitely find something. Theres a coffee bar with light snacks and alcohol too, and frequently theres live music. This a fantastic local small business hanging on in the digital age. We need to support it, or places like this wont exist anymore! Next time youre thinking of putting a stack of books into a little library consider bringing them here instead.
Great place. Way more than a Bookstore or a cafe. They hold events, workshops, open mic nights, yoga and dance lessons. Old school Seattle at its finest. You can play games have a beer or cider. Have some food and chill out talking to some of the old timers that hang out there.
This is a true gem of a bookstore in our community. Saying bookstore does a disservice to the actual place. It is a place, a place that sells books, also a place to sit down and have conversations, enjoy a beverage and comestibles, participate in a community event (concert, game hour, etc.). They have a great curated selection of used books. You likely wont find the book you came in for, but youll leave with one you need to read. Theo, the owner is a great character in the neighborhood -- heart of gold, affable, interested and interesting at once.
This place is a treasure and not to be missed. In all honesty I have only been a few times, but the last visit I realized I needed to change that. Newly published popular books along with used books, all easily navigable and browseable. A small bar with a selection of coffees, drinks and snacks. And a venue for regular events. Support your local book sellers, not Amazon.
There is an event space in the back where they do poetry readings and open mics. This is definitely a community/neighborhood spot. I often see groups meeting there, fir retirees or book clubs. There is also a small kids section with chairs and a table. And they serve food and coffee! The sell a mix of used and new books. The owner is very kind and the place is nice and quiet. Great spot!
Feels like a small town community gathering place. Friendly people, small menu but good eats. Plenty of books to read or buy and plenty of places to sit.
Very interesting bookstore. Small and intimate. Used and new books. Serves coffee, espresso, lattes. Small bites. Beer and Wine! Holds community gatherings from time to time. Owner Theo gets my 5 star vote.
I really enjoy this place. Its a coffee shop/used book store/music area. The first time I went in there was a full group playing music which made the whole atmosphere very enjoyable. They have the books sorted by author which makes it a lot easier to find what you want than somewhere like Goodwill. If you bring in a bag of books they give you a credit and you can use that credit to pay for 50% of any purchases, which is pretty neat.
Their used book collection is great! I found a hardback The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead for $13. Great condition. The coffee was okay. Espresso was bitter but foam of the cappuccino was done well. Like the atmosphere. Will definitely come back for more books.
Great place! A refreshing taste of old school Seattle culture. The coffee is good, too!
This is a great cozy place top browse new and used books. Stop by for the open Mic or live music in weekends, sip on coffee or other adult beverages. Its one of the enjoyable eclectic places to hang out in Greenwood.
What sweet bookstore and coffee house. The food is good and beer and wine are available. Its a warm and funky concert venue.
Good local independent bookstore. Coffee and musical jam sessions with local groups. Worth the time.
Great little used bookstore. Esoteric/alt vibe, also a big selection of vintage pulp paperbacks. Bring cash. Worth keeping an eye on their music calendar to see local jazz and folk musicians.
Friendly place, welcoming environment.Good coffee, snacks, and food.Exchange books for store credit which goes twords HALF of only BOOK purchases.Nice for locals game night Thursdays, writers group Mondays, comedy once per month.
Its great... Atmosphere service and good reads..
Great community book shop. Good selection of paperback sci fi. Lots of live music. Nice snacks and drinks. Cozy atmosphere.
Nice little open mic Wednesday evenings; eclectic, polite and not at all intimidating. Plus a fine a book store with coffees beer and sodas!
Sure used is cheaper, but sometimes you want whats new too. This place has the best of both plus treats. They wont be delivering to your door, but thats not why youre there.
I remember coming here when i was very young, in the early 2000s, (before they lost their lease in 2008). At the old location by Kens market. On gloomy weather days, my dad my brother and I would sit in the store for hours and read book after book after book. Back then when I was young, I was not aware they had lost their lease at the old location, so when they left there, I thought that was it, and couth buzzard was gone. My family and I were all thrilled that they could open up at a new location. Heres to many more great years couth buzzard!
A strong focus on neighborhood and community. Theres a lot more going on than just books and coffee, so expect anything from readings to jazz festivals.
This place is so cool. A well stocked book shop with a great selection and a cracking coffee house. Well worth a visit.
Lots of books and good coffee, Italian soda, tea, brownies, cookies and soup and pizza. Eat and browse.
Books and a sort of lunch counter. Not crazy about their espresso but its acceptable. Book selection is eclectic and enjoyable browsing
Real good place to read books, drink draught beer and check out an open mic. 1 star deduction because there was no actual mic at said open mic.
Just the best kind of used/new bookstore that you can hope to stumble upon. Delicious coffee, beer, live acts, friendly staff... And lots and lots of books. :)
Highly community oriented, where regular patrons hanging out will introduce you to others. Used and new books, mostly used. Food and drinks. Try the John Boy flatbread, created by patron.
A hidden gem in Seattle. Part bookstore, part show venue, part coffeehouse and all perfect. Just a wonderful place.
Cozy, excellent small used bookstore w/ coffee, nice food. Very supportive of the neighborhood and local musicians. A comfortable place.
Cozy atmosphere, alright selection of books, and crazy low prices. Came here last year and got to attend a live recording of a noir radio drama. Whats not to love?
Live, local musicians. Great used bookstore. The best London Fog around!
My old man plays music at this place. Its rather fun and entertaining 👍✌
Little gem! Seems like a friendly little community of regulars hangs out here as well.
A lovely little local bookstore, coffee shop, and concert venue. Love their community centered focus and their atmosphere. Definitely one of my favorite places in Seattle.
Great place for community to gather. Come for open mike night, watch live stand-up comedy, play Go/Weiqi/Baduk, etc. Stay for espresso, baked goods, sandwiches. And of course...books!
I love this place. Good books, coffee, food. Home away from home.
Wonderful funky bookstore with lots of community activities from poetry readings to singer/songwriter showcases to classical musician mini-concerts.
This place has a very special vibe and open Mic music poetry storytelling
Nicely stocked old-fashioned used bookstore
A low key, feel at home kind of a book store with much to offer beyond books.
Bookstore ( New and used), coffee shop, snacks and sandwiches, beer and wine, and love music. Friendly folks and great community spirit.
A lovely specimen of a dying breed: local, independent bookstores. A community hub and all-around fun place to feed your brain!
This place is a bookstore with a coffee bar and is open and encourages musicians to meet here. I attended a music writing meet / workshop here.
The songwriters showcase tonight was great.
Beautiful shop...nice game. Didnt have LOTR though.
Love the selection of used books! Cozy spot to read, sip some wine or coffee while listening to their jazz jam band.
Live music several nights a week. This place has a friendly staff and great atmosphere, but the book selection is limited.
Great place to find a book, drink a cup or beer.
Lovely little community bookstore offering a lot of big options!
There seemed to be a good selection of books. However it was difficult to tell as a band was blocking about a quarter of the books making it impossible to browse.
Friendly staff and good coffee. The book selection isnt the greatest but its nice if youre not looking for anything in particular.
Nice community bookstore and coffee shop. Friendly people. Also sometimes hosts community events.
One of my favorite places to hang out on a Friday night -- live music, cool books, and alcohol!
Seems to have a good selection of SF. Thee biilogy section was also good. Prices were high - 4 bucks for a used small paperback.
Choro from Brazil first, third Sunday 2pm. Another example of the cool of Couth Buzzard.
Good coffee, lots of new books as well as used books well organized.
Sweet little bookshop with cafe and live music. Cluttered which adds to the charm.
Great place to work, good used book selection, very friendly owner, offers music performances!
Awesome selection of used books, and the coffee bar offers a nice selection of food and drinks. Not just coffee, but beer as well.
Want little neighborhood bookshop. Community centered events are great.
Interesting bookstore with an interesting variety of books
Bookkstore + cafe+ music. Community center. Fab.
Great place for used and new books in a great neighborhood.
The coolest coffee shop and best bookstore in Greenwood!
Friendly book house and very community based if you are looking to score a glass of wine, beer or cappuccino this is your place. Also you can donate your old books for credit to use on other purchases of books.
Good music, good home-made pizza, good brownies
Such a great community place with great feel
