The hubby and I stopped in to start fishing again since we were kids. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and helped us find everything we needed in one stop. Fishing pole combo, tackle box, line, lures, bait, license and more. We wanted to get fishing today and they helped us achieve that goal. We are very satisfied customers! We didnt catch anything today but theres always tomorrow.

Ok. Ive been to a lot of west marine locations over the years, all over the US.This is the biggest rigging shop I have ever seen in a WM store and Ken, the guy who runs the shop, hes fantastic.He should get the 5 stars just for being such an incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful guy. All good things to say about him. 💯

Came in here not really knowing what I needed, only that I needed paint for a shipping container. The man who helped me stood there and talked to me for a good amount of time, giving me information about the different paints and asking me questions about the specific needs of my project and finally said I was better off just getting a polyurethane paint at a hardware store because it would be less expensive since I didnt need all the specifically marine aspects of the paint they had there. I just knew I had used a marine epoxy paint on a previous project that was given to me and it was the greatest stuff ever. I didnt know how expensive that stuff is though! Thank you for your honest informative opinion!

This is probably the most comprehensive West Marine store that Ive ever been to and it has just about everything youre going to need for marine supply. The sales staff are always attentive and direct you right where you need to go to.

A routine stop when working on boats… don’t have everything, but all the basics are there

The new store is gorgeous. Its nice to have a store close to Shilshole with a pretty good selection of items. WM uses their various stores as a warehouse system, so if something is not in stock in Seattle, theres a good chance they can get it pretty quickly.

Came by for some new line for the sailboat, huge selection best store Ive visited so far!

John is so knowledgeable and super helpful. The store itself is not real easy to find. The new young boy was not helpful, nor experienced in working with the public, I find some of the youngers just aren’t raised to communicate appropriately. But once again John saved and made the Experience in my trip to this location.

I called about a product after looking everywhere. Not only was the staff knowledgeable about the what I was looking for but was super friendly and helpful once I arrived. It was a one stop shop that will bring me back and recommend my friends.

Went in a few times and always very friendly customer service. The guys there have lots of experience. Not cheaper than online obviously but much cheaper than buying the wrong part.

We have gone in multiple times to outfit our newly acquired sailboat for liveaboard comfort. This West Marine has a lovely staff who is always willing to help us and has gone above and beyond, Randy specifically was a huge help to us ironing out our plans for instrumentation and electronics, giving us not only his personal recommendations but also giving us tips and info about other models and alternatives that we hadnt even considered.

I went to REI and big 5 looking for a kayak for my wife and they had limited selection and knowledge. I then called up West Marine and they were very professional on the phone and invited me to their store in Ballard. They also said their was a sale going on. I went down to their store and they welcomed me and told me to go upstairs and find George. George showed me their selection, educated me on the different types of kayaks and determined which one was best suited for my wife. I found one that was perfect and George put it on hold until the next morning when I could pick it up. West Marine made this a very enjoyable experience for me.Sgt. Mike

Sharing this review on behalf of my husband.I am a 40 year old on the autism spectrum and navigating daily life is a struggle, social situations are extremely overwhelming, especially stores (not to mention on a first visit). My wife helps me to communicate with others and navigate social situations. Social situations are extremely difficult under normal circumstances and in the Covid-19 world nothing is normal.I have been saving to buy a boat. It’s a lifelong dream of mine to sail and I’ve found a stripped hull that I am excited to refurbish.When I arrived at the store, with my wife and my service animal, we were immediately accosted by multiple store personnel who simultaneously barked at us to leave the store because we did not have masks on (it was in my hand and I was actively putting it on). The store staff also argued with me about bringing in my service animal. My wife’s mask was not with our items so she was told to wait outside.No store personnel was available to help me find the items I was looking for (too busy guarding the door I guess) but didn’t seem to mind staring and watching as I located the paint on my own. The person who grudgingly helped me was condescending and unable to actually answer any of my questions and finally just shoved a paint pamphlet at me.Outside my wife and I found what I needed in the pamphlet.When I re-entered the store there was a store employee leaving the back who graciously offered to help me find the paint I was looking for and she helped me bring my items to the register.I was told that I could return unopened paint, and I ended up buying $2,000 worth. The cashier was offended that I paid with cash and not worried about being rude about it.I wished there had been someone knowledgeable to help me purchase the right amount of paint and I dreaded returning to the store where I was again greeted with a bad attitude. The clerk was rude about the fact that I was returning unused materials and barked at me to put my mask on during our discussion when my face mask started to fall.I’m hoping to get a 3D Sonar Transducer and all of my weather and navigation instrumentation (not cheap stuff), but when I attempted to ask questions about the items on display I was barked at not to touch.For my return I was given part of my refund in cash and part on a gift card, which I perceive as a manipulation to get me to come back into the store.I had exactly the opposite experience with Fisheries Supply and their prices are far more reasonable as well.

I really appreciate having a flagship Weat Marine in the area, but honestly the in-store experience feels rather over merchandised .From the acres of shelves of fluff, to the pleasant but overly attentive staff - as a marine professional, I find it a bit distracting to be tracked through the store having to fend off unsolicited advice and assistance.If I need something, I can ask for it !

Not sure what this COVID thing has done to customer service, but first thing in the door and they harass you to use their hand sanitizer, going so far as to physically touch you if you arent paying attention to their signs. Most of them didnt understand what I was trying to do (my guess is they only deal with upper-class, too high to know about canoes). Felt like a bunch of middle-aged white men oozing entitlement. Managed to find what I needed, but dont plan on bringing my business back.

Went here today after seeing that they opened a new flagship store in Ballard. MaryJo and Michael were exceptionally helpful and I scored a new pair Sperry Gold Cup shoes at a great price. They price match here which is sweet. I always try to buy in-store as I support retail diversity rather than buying online where your only making a greedy Seattle billionaire more wealthy.The new store is beautifully designed and is actually 2 stories which is cool. Lots of clothing upstairs and overall the store just has a really cool vibe with nice employees. I will definitely shop here again!

Why not five stars? West Marine can be hit or miss, but out of convenience and necessity (my marina is right around the corner) Ive come to spend a lot of time at this store over the last two years. What have I found? Friendly, knowledgeable staff that knows me by sight and who have repeatedly gone above and beyond for me. Ive seen staff that really cares, listens and works hard. Ive seen a store thats clean and well organized and Ive saved time and money. From looking up obscure filters to order parts, Ive gotten a lot of projects done, and done quickly, with this store.On a recent visit, I wanted to finish a project that day and I ran into West Marine. They had my part but it was almost $100 more than my other go-to location in Seattle. I didnt even know about this, but West Marine matched the price. They saved me a long drive, they made it possible to finish my project that day and they made me very happy. So I ask, why not five stars, yes, maybe other marine stores in Seattle have a more extensive selection on-hand and maybe West Marine still isnt my first choice (yet), but these guys are great and I like this store a lot.

My usual West Marine experience is at best a 3, but this store is a zero. I went there for an item advertised on the biggest sale of the year but there were none available at this store. So I was directed to Juanie to help me with getting a rain check, yes Juanie, the little man with a big chip on his shoulder who tried to pick a fight with me. Juanie said he could get me a rain check but then said he would not give me a raincheck for the item. After telling me to order on-line and pay shipping to my house or drive around town to find another store, or just wait until they get another one in stock and that they are not getting much of any stock anyway, I was not happy that they did not stock the sale item. Then Juanie escalates his seething anger toward me and began to criticize me because he did not like my covid mask. So, I left, they obviously do not need any more customers. What an angry person to have to meet anywhere let alone getting paid to roam around the store trying to pick fights with the customers, like a thug in a dark alley.The store has a huge electronics display if you want a $12,000 24 inch monitor and a great display of $500. binoculars. Other than that, their stock is usual skimpy and prices are a premium - even on sale. The store is difficult to get to and the parking sucks and it is located just past the warf, under the bridge, and up the alley from the 16 ft bronze statue of Communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin.

Took an old rod in the get it re-spun. Only spent $12 to buy some new line and new spinners, but I got a complete crash course on fishing for beginners! I was honestly expecting to be upsold to get a new rod and wheel, but it was the exact opposite! If you go in - ask for a guy named Shawn, super passionate about fishing and his work and will give you all the tricks and pointers! Will definitely be back to purchase more gear!

I was horrified by the totally unwarranted suspicion of the staff. They had the nerve to ask if I had any business shopping there. I responded was that I was looking for camping gear and they didnt like that response. They responded with um well we have alot of things that go missing here when I asked why they didnt want my patronage. I am a medically retired US Army Veteran, and I never have been treated so rudely for no reason in my life.
