Amazing work and professionalism! Rebuilt my motor and transmission in my Vanagon in a timely manner and updated me through the process. Always willing to answer questions before, during, and even after the work has been done. After picking up the van from the shop, I took my van on a cross country road trip with no issues. Honest shop simply looking to make your Vanagon the best it can be.
A few years ago, my wife and I purchased our first Westy (Dharma). She seemed to be in decent shape, ran fairly well but was in dire need of a deep cleaning and some upgrades/updating. We spent a few months doing what we could, but realized that when it came to some of the mechanical systems, the work was beyond our “pay-grade”. I spent weeks researching local PNW Westy mechanics and ultimately decided to go with Peace Vans. We brought Dharma in for the full inspection and the results were, well, almost disheartening. But after a long discussion of pro’s and con’s, we made the decision right there that if we tackled “the-list”, we were all in from there on out. We were a bit hesitant, and I dare say a little concerned but went for it. It was the best decision we made! The Peace Vans team provided stellar work and our representative, Corey, answered our every question and concern. Well, its been almost 2 years since the “big fixes” and she hasn’t missed a beat. From local camp-outs to back roads USFS (dispersed) camping in the Mt Baker National Forest, she has performed flawlessly. In fact, we just recently returned from a 1,328 mile trip that took us through Portland, Bend, Shasta and home again over 11 days and we couldn’t have been more impressed with her performance. Our largest concern was how Dharma would do on the passes……..she ran cool as a cucumber (see pic) with the needle never going above the bottom of the coolant warning LED. Sure, it was 60 on the flats and 40 on the passes, but it was nice hanging in the slow lane and smelling the proverbial roses!! In this day and age, it can be hard to find a mechanic that you trust, let alone one that has a team as amazing as the one at Peace Vans. Were thankful from the bottom of our hearts for taking such good care of our Dharma and look forward to continuing to work with them over the upcoming years as we continue to “love” on our old-girl.
Super service. Was in the middle of a 5 week road trip when my shift linkage started to bind up. It got so bad I could barely shift. Gave Peace Vans a call and they were able to squeeze me in at 7 am the next morning. Jason replaced an incorrect bushing that was binding up, with the correct one, just behind the gas tank. It has been shifting like butter for the past 1000 miles since the fix. Great shop, wish it was in SoCal instead of SoDo.
If you are intent on living your best life and your VW Vanagon needs repair(s), restoration, or an upgrade, take it to Peace Vans in Seattle, WA.You will be very happy you did. They are professional, knowledgeable, and technically competent across a wide range of services. They know what they’re doing and their passion for their work and VW love is obvious to all. We brought Luna, our 1990 Vanagon Westfalia camper, to Peace Vans shortly after purchase for a comprehensive evaluation of her mechanical and camper systems. The detailed vehicle evaluation was thoroughly explained to us so we could develop understanding and prioritize needed repairs. Peace Vans subsequently made a number of major and minor repairs for reliability and safety as well as some nice upgrades (e.g., Truckfridge 49, auxiliary battery system) for us.Our satisfaction with Peace Vans, however, goes way beyond technical repair proficiency. From the owner Harley on down, the entire Peace Vans team is outstanding. We especially want to acknowledge Corey, our Peace Vans Customer Service point of contact. From our first phone call to the day we finally drove Luna back home, Corey was organized, customer-focused, and professional. His patient explanations of the work completed and how things worked were very much appreciated and were done with friendly respect. We couldn’t be more pleased. Highly recommend. Thank you Peace Vans!
Really amazing shop, super amazing staff, knowledgeable and just awesome 👍
UPDATED: I give PeaceVans 5 stars. Theyre just a great business doing something cool and making it super fun. Note: Im in phase 1 of my work with them. Heres the quick story: I bought my first 72 VW Westfalia in the fall and drove it from Ca. to Washington. It was everything you could hope for with an original Westy in decent condition. My girlfriend and I want to drive it all across the country and knew that it would need a good thorough evaluation.I heard about PeaceVans from a friend who used to restore them. I met the owner Harley and although they are primarily a later model Westy shop (81+) and create amazing Mercedes Metris Vans, they grandfathered me in to do a diagnostic for the 49 year old bus. I met with their Service Manager Corey and he took our bus LaPiñaFay and gave it their 200 point diagnostic. Hes a person who loves parts and how they work, especially vintage stuff so I felt we were in good hands. What I got back was a thorough detailed plan for how to optimize our new investment for maximum lifespan and enjoyment for us. Corey spent an hour talking through all of the possibilities with us.UPDATE: We completed phase 1 work and She is running so well! We are very happy with the work performed and feelSuper confident she’s ready for our cross country adventure in July for my family reunion. We are going to tour around Washington the last part of June this year. Again I couldn’t be happier with the service we got at Peace Vans. They will most definitely be doing all future work for us as needed!Thank you Harley and Corey for being so damn great about everything. We really appreciate. Keep doing what youre doing. You truly enhance the experience of being a VW owner. Its true what they say, If you dont own a VW, you wont understand.
I saw Peace Vans after searching for 70s VW Vans on Google to propose to my girlfriend (she said yes!). After talking to Jess via email about renting a bus, it was really easy to reserve and sign documents online. I noticed that even though they were in the off season, their communication and customer service was spot on. I was thoroughly impressed. The van was SO fun to drive also and for a fair price. If youre interested in driving one of these classic vans, Peace Vans is the most professional company based in Washington to do business with. Message me if you would like to know more details from a customers view. Thanks Peace Vans!
I didnt buy anything just stopped by to see the iconic shop that it is. I got the tour of the shop. I would highly recommend this place for renting a great VW camper for a vacation or repairs on your own.
I’ve come to know a lot of shops and a lot of shop owners in the five years of my vanagon-owning career. More than once I’ve found myself in a situation I thought was surely the end of the line for me and my rig, but Harley has always been there to help me through and get me back on the road. Truly a generous and kind person running the best shop I’ve come across. They’re knowledgeable, reasonable, quick and above all, they care—and I that last part is really what separates them from so many others.I couldn’t recommend these guys more.
These guys definitely know their stuff, but they wont give you an estimate of their work. Im not just saying that. I visited in person, talking to them in person about a rebuild. They seemed interested, wrote down my email and promised to send a detailed estimate. I called. No response. I visited again. They acted like they were working on the estimate right then. I made sure they had my correct email and phone number. It became apparent that they only want to talk to folks who are willing to part with $15-20,000 no questions asked.
The whole crew is awesome!!!! Didnt rent a van but they are serious about what they do. Beautiful pieces of machinery all around, full mechanic staff that love like family, and a beautiful facility!
Great family fun. If you are looking to tour the Olympic peninsula it’s a fun way to go.
Want to get away, take one of these great little vans out for your trip. A great way to see the outdoors and not get dirty(for those who like to be clean all the time, boo to you, I say). The Vans are waiting, the adventure is what YOU make of it, now get out there!
AMENDMENT: Id previously left an unflattering review of Peace Vans due to a perceived lack of communication. When I read their response to my bad review, I checked my voicemail and discovered a number of messages theyd previously left (not sure if it was a Verizon issue or I just totally missed them ... but thats irrelevant). Peace Vans DID in fact respond to my calls/messages. Im really impressed they were so sensitive to the unflattering review, and so quick to respond. Definitely a class act - I want to apologize for any angst I may have caused.
We had a pretty epic experience renting a early 2000s Eurovan that had mechanical issues out in the wilds, on a sunday, and Peace Vans was beyond responsive and generous in their support and resolution of the issue. We learned a lot and were very impressed with how quick and decisive they were in their communications from afar on a weekend, and appreciated their generosity and help. Highly recommend!
Ive been driving a Westy as my daily driver since 1997. I am passionate about exploring the PNW and have always loved the small footprint of the Westy. I had some work done at Peacevans last spring and was very impressed with the ethos of the shop. Everyone was very personable and nice, customers are like family. As a fan girl I got a tour from Harley and loved hearing about the rental business, the repair business and the new Peacevans Modern vans. A few months later, when I made the decision to leave the Westy life and move to a modern platform - I called Harley about a PeacevansModern van . I knew I wanted the Westy foot print but modern safety features of the Mercedes were very appealing. Yesterday I drove home with my very own PeacevansModern Weekender. I am thrilled with my decision to make the jump. Adam and Harley are top notch and working with them was easy. From help with the decision of whether to get a full camper vs a weekender, to taking measurements and sending them to me mid build to the orientation on pick up day customer service was exceptional. Thank you Peacevans!
I have been a three time customer at Peace Vans. I have spent 3k $ and will never use them again after the owner Harley admitted to me today that he stole parts off my van to use in his rental van. I admit it. I did steal your curtain rings for the rental, Carol. Im sorry, I shouldnt have done it. No kidding. He even tried to make himself seem better by telling me he would never have stolen my van parts and held onto my van after it was fixed if he knew I had cancer and was trying to get to a reunion. I guess in Harleys mind that is where you draw the line. Stealing from and lying to a healthy client is okay, I guess. He told me he wasnt really a thief, just someone who made a bad judgement call. A bad judgement call is when the ref calls a ball a strike. Not when you intentionally steal 13 parts off of a clients van to put into your rental van. As far as I am concerned, that really does make you a thief. This was my third job with them, a simple coolant hose replacement. Adam ordered the hose on a Friday and told me it would be there and the job finished Monday. A week before my family reunion in OR. Then on the day I was supposed to pick up the van, Adam called to say my van would not be available for another full week. Ten days later I called and was told Adam and the owner Harley were out, so the fellow who spoke to me told me he didnt know what to charge or why a bill couldnt be found for my job, but as the van was ready to go, he let me take it and make the second half of my family reunion. Thank goodness for one honest employee, who had no idea parts had been stolen off my van and thats why Adam was not calling me to tell me the work was finished. Because of this employee I got to go to the last half of my family reunion. As it turns out, the owner had decided to hold on to my van to steal parts from it (all the curtain rings on my slider door window) and to borrow my curtains to make patterns for new curtains in one of his rental vans. Adam finally emailed me with a bill and a strange additional comment. Oh, the owner decided to borrow your curtain to use for a pattern for a new curtain on a rental van. We forgot to return it to your van.I would have preferred to be asked before anything unrelated to the job I hired them for was taken out of my van. I told this to Adam when I went in to pay and pick up my curtain. The curtain was just handed back to me with no apology like this was no big deal at all to them. I went home and discovered they had stolen every one of my curtain rings on my slider door so I couldnt even replace the curtain they borrowed. I emailed Adam, and said I wanted my curtain rings back, and that they better not have been installed in their van already. No response. When I went in the next day, I discovered the owner Harley had himself stolen all my curtain rings, sent my curtain out of the shop to the seamstress (the reason my van suddenly needed to stay there so long) and had actually installed my curtain rings in his rental van with that new curtain mine had been the pattern for so he could get that van out on the road making 300$ a day for him. He did this to me intentionally; lied about it to my face several times before finally admitting it. He just stole from me. And had Adam lie and tell me my van wouldnt be finished in time for my trip, even though it was. All so he could strip it of all the parts he wanted for himself. I watched as Adam and Harley went from van to van out back stealing a hodgepodge of two different colors of curtain rings to throw in my hand finally. They had to do this because of course my curtain rings were out on the road being used by that rental client in their rental van. Did they take one or two or three from each client who had a van out back? Are they hoping that way no one will notice? The last time I went in it was for a 2k$ heater core replacement and my battery cover was never replaced. They tried to convince me a huge battery cover never existed. These guys have no shame. And they steal.
Part of owning a Vanagon are the inevitable trips to the mechanic. Ive had my fair share and no one has compared to the service I had a Peace Vans. They did a great full diagnostic and made some major repairs at a fair and honest price. I live in Oregon, but will be willing to make the drive up to Seattle in the future to have work done there. Highly recommended.
Best option for small van conversions available!
I paid these guys to restore my 1971 westfalia camper bus and yes it took time and a lot of money and these guys did it perfectly. I am business owner myself and I know what it takes to run a business and these guys are awesome. Restoring vintage vehicles is not cheap however they only went 900 dollars over my budget and did everything I wanted them to do, everything. Their customer service is awesome and their Communication skills are excellent. Good job guys to all you, from the owner to every employee there. I have restored a lot of vehicles and have been taking for a lot of money and these guys dont do that. They charge a good fee and provide an excellent service above and beyond the fee that they charge . I think to the negative reviews on here if you want stuff done cheap go to Walmart. But if you want it done right go here. This place was worth every penny that I paid them and more. Thank you guys for the excellent work that you did.
Another excellent job done by the professionals at Peace Vans. They are very accommodating, the work is excellent, the front desk is very polite, extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of any VW van. No 1 van shop in the N.W.
Amazing experience! They think of everything, and provide great support!
Great job on our van! They are extremely helpful and go above and beyond to get you on the road and to make the most of your Westy van. We will be back!
Peace vans did a great job on helping to get my Westy back on the road. They are friendly and they have a lot of expertise with knowing how to get the job done right. I never once had a hard time getting ahold of them when I had questions which I greatly appreciate. Good customer service, professional, and quality service. Cant ask for more than that. Thanks Peace Vans. Great work!
Best group of folks ever.
Great honest service, wed asked for a specific repair and it was done quickly and at a reasonable cost.
After driving from CA to Seattle for Thanksgiving my van developed a serious oil leak. I called Peace Vans Tuesday about 4:00 and explained my situation. They explained that even though they were closing early Wednesday so their employees could go home to their families early for the holiday they always try to leave room in their schedule for travelers in a tight spot and to have the van towed in ASAP. It turned out to only be the oil cooler O-ring so it was an easy fix. They had my van all fixed up a few hours after I dropped it off and I have my van back to make the rounds on Thanksgiving. Everybody I talked to on the phone and in person was very friedly and seemed happy to be there. I drive to Seattle several times a year to visit friends and family and these guys will be my first call for service on my Vanagon anytime Im in town!
Sweet guys run this place and will work with you.
Great shop! And great people too.
This is it!! You need not look any further for a shop that will treat you right!! We are new owners of a Vanagon Synchro and have had almost every major problem you can have with these in the few short months we have owned it. We have experienced MANY shops that claim to have knowledge of VWs but NO ONE knows these vans like these guys!! Based on my prior interactions with them and their rave reviews from others, we recently drove about 800 miles just to have their opinion of our problem. We were on a 3-4 week road trip that had been derailed several times already due to major mechanicals and were just tired of trusting random shops to figure something out at great time and cost and often not actually fixing the problem. We were fortunate enough to be able to have them give it a test drive on the weekend while they were technically not open (working on another project) and within 30 mins they had diagnosed and fixed the problem!!! It drove perfectly the rest of the way home, and even on some pretty rough logging roads!!Hearing them talk and seeing their knowledge in action was awe inspiring!! They know these vans inside and out!! Our van is anything but stock with a subaru conversion and many other aftermarket add ons but even all of that they had intimate knowledge of and we did not need to fill them in on all the complications therein. These guys are seriously the real deal and I cannot say enough good things about them. Not only are they incredibly knowledgable and honest in their love of these vans, but they are just darn nice and friendly people to talk to!!In order to ease the pain of our frustrating breakdown journey, Harley sent us an e-mail of all the local restaurant and entertainment options for while we are in town... this is an example of the extra mile these guys go to in order to help. Thanks to Harley, Ben and Corey for your wonderful work!!We live an hour out of Vancouver, BC and we have since decided this will be where we bring our van for all our work and maintenance in the future!!
Thorough and genuinely helpful mechanics. We trust them with our Westy.
Very good
