Very honest. They were not sure about a problem my car was having, and rather than just throwing parts at my car and charging me, he opted to wait till he knew for sure. I dont mind bringing it back when the problem gets worse. Id rather get it right than drop $1000s on repairs that may or may not fix it. Very highly recommend this shop. This is the kind of honesty and directness you look for in a great auto mechanic.

I went to this auto shop to have them check out a car I was thinking about purchasing. I dont live in Seattle, so I was going based on a recommendation from a friend. This shop was great! They were super helpful, personable, honest, and amazing all around. They saved me from buying a car that would have had a lot of issues. If Im ever in need of Japanese auto repair in Seattle, I will go to them again without hesitation. If youre in Seattle and you have a Japanese car, I highly recommend this auto shop.

I was happy with No. 1 the first few times they worked on my car over the past four years, including the time they replaced the timing belt and neglected to replace a part and my car died in traffic the same day I picked it up. They accepted responsibility without hesitation and fixed the problem. They struck me as a little spacey but honest.Last summer, however, was the straw. I took my 22 year old 4Runner to them in July, requesting a major tune up, spark plug change, oil change, top the fluids, replace the battery, etc. Major maintenance - those were my words. It had been to Texas and back within 9 months, and I told them this. They charged me $900.A week after I picked it up, the car failed to turnover. I took it back to them. They replaced the starter. I spent close to another $500.A week later it failed to turn over again. I called again and spoke with Tony who was so clearly not interested in the problem that I realized Id been had. That was when I looked at the original receipt. They had NOT changed the oil or oil filter or air filter or topped the fluids. Im still so angry, it makes me sick to my stomach. They charged me $900 to change the spark plugs and replace the battery. Think about that.No. 1 Japanese Auto could not pay me to let them work on my car. They are not worth the risk. These people are inconsistent in quality of work and attention. And when push comes to shove, they dont care. You can rock along and the work they do is fine for a while and then - boom. Youre screwed. Ive read this in other reviews. It finally happened to me. You would be wise not to let yourself be next.

About a year and a half ago while I was living in NC, the power steering on my 2010 Subaru Forester stopped working well. It was very hard to turn the wheel, especially when starting the car.I took the Subaru to two different mechanics in NC, and one repaired it (somewhat), for a few months, before it degraded again, after spending hundreds of dollars. After moving to Seattle, I decided to take it to No. 1 Japanese Auto Repair. To my surprise and delight, the car was totally repaired in a day for a very reasonable price. If I ever have troubles with my Subaru again, I know Im going back to No.1!

Great place to get your Japanese car worked on. Ive been coming here for years and I always feel I get a fair deal. Tony is so easy to work with, and hell usually get you car in quick and finish the job in one day. They do good quality work and wont rip you off. WAY better option than taking you car to the dealer. Great value for an auto mechanic and a place you can trust.

We had our first experience at this small auto shop. The owner is very polite and straight forward. The place may not look plush, but the service and repair are the best. The dealer had told us that our Subaru Forester with hardly 55k miles will need large dollar expense and repairs. At No.1 Japanese place, the owner explained that there was no need to do the dealer suggested repair for another year or two. The final bill was quarter of the dealer quoted price.Agreed that not all the work was performed, yet it was much reasonable.Honest businesses treat their customer with respect and they do not need to advertise for their services. The experience speaks for itself. This is one of those businesses.Five stars plus!

I am not exactly a customer but I think the place deserves a five stat rating. Late at night my Nissan Cube refused to start. It cranked just fine but the engine would not fire After waiting two hours for AAA the only thing they could do is jump the battery. They wanted to tow me but no place was open. The next morning I called 1 Japanese Auto. They told me that usually the issuein a Cube is the security system, that they did not have the equipment to fix it and I should try another key. I did and the car started and I drove home.So over the phone they correctly diagnosed the issue and had enough integrity to send me to a different place. A++ in my book.

This shop is all that car owners hope for: honest, fairly priced, and efficient. I own a 97 Camry, and after racking up 150,000+ miles (3000 of those while driving across the country) my engine started having trouble while on the road. While on the road back to seattle, we went to a few repairmen - all of them quoting ridiculously high-priced repairs. I decided to forgo the repairs and eventually found #1 in Seattle. After he took a look at it, he told me it was only the ignition coils and asked to fix it. Worked like a charm. Extremely honest.Ive brought my beauty back to him every time since, and he always gives me fairly priced quotes on repairs.

I found out about these folks from a friend who is so frugal that he wants to do all of his car repairs himself. He says that for $25, these guys diagnosed the problem, told him what parts he would need and how to fix his own car.The first time I went, they advised me to take my car to Toyota because it was something they were fixing for free. The second time, I was prepared to pay $1500 for a problem that they fixed for $40.The last time, I thought I had oil leaking into my exhaust - they then gave me an education on why it looks that way - but that I wasnt actually losing any oil. I now realize my mistake. They advised me to have my oil changed more often.Another outfit would have milked me for thousands. Im building a lot of trust with these guys. I like them.

This guy is very honest. I came in because the CEL was on and the ODBII reader said it was a pressure problem. It looked over my head to fix so I brought it in here, bracing myself for a really big bill. Boy was I surprised to hear from this shop a few hours later that it was a loose air hose, and I would be charged the minimum, which was an hour of work at the shop rate! He said if it came back on it might mean replacing a charcoal cannister, which would be big bucks. I think some less scrupulous mechanics would have just replaced the cannister after tightening the hose to make some money, as some in my industry would replace a lock instead of fixing or replacing the inexpensive broken part.It is great to find a mechanic who shares the same ethics in charging customers the minimum necessary for work, and I reward him by leaving a review for his business here and elsewhere and also telling people about my great experience. Thanks for your honesty and fast turnaround.
