Dont worry about all those past reviews below. Englebardts has new owners who are incredibly welcoming, helpful, and kind. We were in the area about a week ago as they were closing up on a Sunday and welcomed us in. We spent a good hour chatting with the owners and now they are placing an order for shirts with our company! Win win!

So enjoyed meeting the new owner, Tom! It seems like he has great plans. Tom was extremely helpful and knowledgeable when it came to wine! I was impressed with their new international wines particularly a Bordeaux and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Looked like a few nice Italian wines as well. All great prices for the value. Engelbart’s has turned a corner with Tom’s management!

My girlfriend and I have been to Englebardt’s fairly regularly since we moved to Schenectady. I have to say out of all of the liquor stores in the area that I’ve been to, I have never received such bad customer service. The older gentleman there eyes me up and down throughout my time in the store like he’s expecting me to steal something. Every time I walk in. Not to mention every question I’ve ever asked there has been returned with an abrupt and cold answer. I understand that I’m a younger man and if you work in a liquor store you need to take precautions to cover yourself. I work in a smoke shop. So when it comes to ID’s, larceny, and such, I get it. That being said, are you kidding me? The energy I received there is absolutely not how any customer should feel in a place of business. Shop there for convenience, not for service.

I have come here sparingly within the past two years, but often enough to be recognized as a regular. There have been times where I had good customer service, but for the most part it hasnt been too friendly or rather its worse since another cashier that was pleasant is no longer there.The icing on the cake was being charged an abrupt minimum purchase fee of $5 even though it would be in cash. I didnt see any signs that stated this and have not heard of a policy requiring it concerning petty cash. I have searched far and wide and dont see where the policy would be enforced (legally).I even confirmed with the cashier if he meant a minimum for cash and they replied with a cold, $5 minimum purchase. This is the first time they decided to make this change ever since Ive gone and personally it will be the only time.I loved coming here out of convenience and could handle the sketchy customer service, but when it seems youre trying to unjustly take my money away, even if its a dollar, all because you feel like it, I refuse to let it go unnoticed.

Very poor selection. Much better off going to Glenville for liquor. Plus the guy at the desk seems clueless about what his inventory is and he should probably spend less time hard staring at people of color and more time stocking shelves with a decent selection.

Ive tried this place a few times.. But this last visit was the last. The CUSTOMER SERVICE is Awful! The man in the evenings there is ALWAYS grumpy.. Never thanks for me for my business! He followed me around like i was going to steal something! I felt SO UNCOMFORTABLE even browsing the SMALL WINE SELECTION... its an old outdated store with VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE...Ill be taking my 3 CASES of Wine i buy for Christmas gifts....ELESEWHERE!!!

I cant wait for the new owners to take over than maybe the store will be back in business

The historic neon sign might be enough to get you in the door, but the friendly and knowledgeable staff really makes it worth the visit. They are always open for questions and have an ever revolving wine tasting station on tap, which might help with your quandary of what to get. Although not the cheapest you can get in the area, they are by no means exceedingly expensive for the standard and top shelf choices. After all, they are located downtown in the College Park section of Schenectady, so Im pretty sure they could charge more if they wanted. There are deals on cases of wine if interested. For the uninitiated, there is parking in the back with a backdoor entrance.

I have had some lousy customer service experiences in my life, but Ive never been made to feel so unwelcome in a store the way I felt at Phil Englebardts. I found the help to be snappish and unfriendly, to put it mildly. The prices and selection of wines is fair to poor, his selection and prices of whiskey (the two things I was shopping for) to be downright bad. Go to Holidays.

They have just what I wanted.

I just left from their store. Selection was beautiful. The only issue was that when I walked in I was not greated. I got the feeling that I was not wanted in the store. The owner came from the register and followed me around. Didnt want to help me find a nice bottle of red or white. I will give them a two because I believe that even the nastiest of people deserve understanding. They should be more enthically tolerate being that youve opened up your business and the center of gentrification.

Ive been to this location a few times and everytime Ive been its has been an uncomfortable experience. The male behind the counter is rude and always try to rush me out the store for reasons unknown. I go in knowing exactly what I want but sometimes I need compare prices. Even today, the 4th he told me to rush my friends because we were trying to find a specific vodka. He wasnt even willing to provide customer service. Its really disappointing because I live in the neighborhood.

Unless you spend money regularlyYou cant have a conversation, even intellectually .
