Vegan deliciousness HOORAAAAY!Got a Reuben that was squishy and juicy and yummy. Just right. And got the lox with cream cheese on a sesame bagel HELLO!! It was damn tasty. Im looking forward to trying everything on the menu.

I really enjoyed the curry chickpeas sandwich with potato salad that I got. It was wonderul burst of spices to percolate any foodies mouth. I went in asked the cashier what his favorite sandwiches or items were and selected this amazing delite from his list. I thought the price was good for the quality. It is a pretty open space inside. I am still hesitant myself on eating indoors but there seemed to ne plenty space to social distance inside if that was a concern. The staff there seemed really efficient and welcoming. I will be back for their burrito. I was particularly drawn to this place because of their vegan options. Thanks Square One Cafe!

Im never disappointed at Square One Cafe. It may be all vegan but its all delicious and their gluten-free buns and desserts are great. I cant and wont stop gushing about this locally owned and creative meal place. Its located on the cobble stoned and quaint Jay St in downtown Schenectady. This side street is lined with other locally owned and unique shops. While waiting for your Square One Cafe lunch, walk to Dilly Bean for the best sour pickle outside of Brooklyn. Before or after you eat, browse the beautiful art gallery. A day on Jay St will never disappoint ❤

They had servers that knew how to make excellent espresso which is incredibly rare. The lattes were great, a lot of really good treats. But their food. Their food was to die for. I had no idea it was all vegan until my 3rd or 4th visit, it all tasted just like the real thing.

Very good food, amazing vegan options! Soo hard to choose. Buut... i dont know if it was a being new thing or covid19 issues, but even though i ordered ahead and arrived before the designated time, i waited half hour more with 3 kids that was frustrating. But they made good for it by giving me a 10$ coupon for next visit. Hopefully i can enjoy their food often once the wrinkles are sorted out!

Coffee was good. Place looked quaint, but not too clean. Server didnt have any desire to serve us and took a long time. We were the only ones in the store.

At first, I was a little sad about the end of Happy Cap, but I am so impressed with Square One and thrilled they are a part of Jay St! I am not even a Vegan and enjoy almost everything on their menu. The specials are super creative and always tasty. The staff is also very friendly and professional.

Everything from this cafe is 100% DELICIOUS. Crane Street Supreme was a game changer. All their breakfast sandwiches are so tasty. Best meat substitutes I’ve ever had. They’re lattes are also incredible. 10/10 would recommend.

My favorite place! such a welcoming atmosphere and every single thing Ive tried has been delish!!!Ive been coming here for quite a while and everyone is so sweet every single time I go in!+ it is so nice to have a fully vegan place to eat/grab a coffee!

My family tried their new vegan menu for the first time and it was excellent! A great variety of breakfast items and sandwiches that are not just run-of-the-mill hummus wraps and veggie burgers. I had the Central Park Club and my wife had the State Street Sloppy Joe. Both were great (especially the club!) but the sides stole the show due to the variety of choices, large portions and high quality. I had the Mac & Cheese with mine and she had the Mac Salad but I see you can also get potato salad or a side salad among other things. I also purchased their Liberty Street Lox Bagel and it looks amazing (saving it for breakfast tomorrow). Desserts were excellent, as well. Worth the trip to Schenectady. We will be back!

Took my kids for lunch as a first-day-of-summer-vacation treat. We are not vegan but we appreciate all good food. The 3 of us shared 2 Central Park Club sandwiches with chips and salsa and lemonade. We couldnt finish all of the food, so come hungry! The sandwiches were freshly made-to-order in their very small kitchen (I watched as the avocado for our sandwiches was scooped out of its peel). The sandwich was delicious, and even my youngest kid who usually eats nothing but chicken tenders is still raving about it 3 days later. Crisp vegan bacon, fresh marble bread, fresh lettuce/tomato, and nicely crisped thin tofu slices with a little bite of black pepper. The salsa for the tri-color tortilla chips was fresh, not mushy, and had just the right level of spice. The lemonade was also great - tasted like natural lemon so most likely fresh-squeezed. Even if youre not a vegan, I would recommend trying the newly-opened Square One Cafe. We will be back.

So happy to have another (shout out B&W) all vegan place in the capital region. We had the club and the mac wrap. Love that they didnt skimp on the portion sizes, and at (IMO) reasonable prices. Also appreciated that they tried to use eco-friendlier takeout materials, maybe the owners can check out Zero Waste Capital District for more ideas! Cant wait to try more from the menu.

Visiting Schenectady, this place was just what I needed. Cozy, nestled in a cute, brick lined alleyway. Found a fantastic book to read, on a shelf of board games and newspapers, and sipped coffee with no one pressuring me to leave any time soon. Friendly staff, dont forget to tip!

Soo impressed with this place. Its so hard to find really good vegan food around here and we were so pleasantly surprised. I love the atmosphere it cozy and sweet and the bagel with carrot salmon with capers, lemon and dill was wonderful. Our drinks were great and the service was fast. This is our new favorite place!

This might just be my favorite vegan cafe, period. Everything we tried was fantastic. I was recently at a vegan place in OKC famed for its delicious mac and cheese, and the side of mac and cheese at Square One was even better than that. The buffalo seitan wrap was awesome too. I thought the portions were a bit small at first, but I’m actually quite full now. I’ll 100% come back here if I’m in Schenectady, and I’ll have to try the desserts that I skipped out on this time.

I cannot emphasize enough how good this cafe is!! I tried the breakfast sandwich, lox bagel, breakfast burrito and latte and all were absolutely delicious. The food is also ready quick and the service is friendly.

Theres a wide selection of coffees & teas and the vibe was great. The service was awesome and the staff members were super polite, professional and quick with a smile. I have not one bad thing to say about this place.

So Im new to eating vegan food and I wasnt sure what to get but they were really friendly and understanding and suggested a few things to try.. I ended up getting the curry chickpea sandwich and some potato salad and Im honestly really loving it, super tasty and filling! Ill definitely be back.

We had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap and the Club Sandwich. Both were flavourful and filling. My daughter is lactose intolerant and it was refreshing for her to be able to just eat what she ordered. We will definitely be back.

They’ve got really good coffee. It’s clean and well taken care of. The prices are a little high and not all of the staff are nice, but they’re usually a good spot. I’ve only gotten drinks from here and so far I’ve never gotten a bad one

I am not even remotely vegan. That being said, the food is fantastic.

I don’t know much about any of the other drinks there but one of my favorite drink was a frozen caramel latte. I have not been there sins the switch over to square till today and I am sad to say the frozen Carmel latte is not the same It was a coffee mix on the bottom and a white frozen stuff on top is was bittersweet and did not have non of the familiar taste of the happy cappuccino I remember 👎🏽

After years of loving Happy Cap I was sad to see it change. However, Square One blew me away with their incredible vegan food, bright new decor, and amazing coffee! Highly recommend!

WOW! I am so impressed. I ordered a Bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel, a breakfast burrito with potatoes and chorizo, the lavender lemonade and pecan pie. Everything was amazing and arrived hot and fresh. I did not get pics as I did not expect to be posting a review but I had to. Can not wait to try more. It is amazing to have a local plant based restaurant, where I dont have to ask a million questions and remove ingredients to place an order. Thank you Square one you guys are rockin it!

The young people behind the counter here are really friendly and the place is cozy. Nice but small selection of pastries. The coffee beans could be of higher quality -- not sure if theyre ground fresh because I dont hear any grinding and I think theres probably better tasting coffee at other shops. Also, Ive been here many times and I dont see a public bathroom (just two doors that say employees only), which is strange for a coffee shop... Still, its one of my favorite little cafes because it feels homey and far from the rat race of big franchises... A great place to duck into when the Schenectady farmers market is on. Ill be back many more times for sure.

One of my favorite places in Schenectady. So convenient for my class in center city. Their iced coffee is delicious, and they give you a decent discount if you are a student in any of the Schenectady schools. Staff is very friendly, and this place reminds me of relaxing at home drinking some coffee. I come here usually once a week.

Having been to Happy Cappy and now Square One, I can honestly say that under the new ownership, the business has not lost a beat. The coffee is great, the pastries are delicious, and the service is friendly and prompt. I look forward to seeing the facelift on the business in the coming weeks and wish great success for the business. Also, I love that non-dairy milks (soy, oat, coconut and almond) can be used at no additional charge.

I wanted to love this place, I really do but there are still cinks to be worked out with the new place. I went on a Sunday mid morning after the Greenmarket. They were out of a few things but I manged to order a latte and a bagel with greens on it. If its a vegan cafe, why do they still have an upcharge for nondairy milk when that is the only option? Secondly, we were sitting outside and our food was bought out to us but our drinks were not. I was a little confused there. Although they asked us if our order was for here or to go when we placed it and it was bought outside, it was packaged to go in bags already. For a place that seems so enviromentally friendly, I didnt understand the waste of bags and containers when we ate our food there. I really want to love this place, so Ill come back but their operations could be a little smoother.Updated as of 8/6/2020.The owner reached out after my review. She was super sweet and wanted to check on my upcharge since as a vegan cafe, it is not their policy to charge on nondairy milks. I was not charged for oatmeal but for my carmel syrup. She also addressed some of my other concerns. Im going to give it another go in the next week or two and hopefully its 5 stars :)

Such a comfortable place to get a coffee and sit. The coffee is delicious and the atmosphere is eclectic. If youre looking for a quick cheap cup of coffee this might not be the place to go, but if you want great coffee definitely stop by here. And they do have free WiFi so it is a great place to get work done as well.

We love this place and the vibe we get when we enter, it is really the only coffee shop in the area but the staff is so friendly and nice, we recommend to all of our guests as well at the hotel and they love it.

It has a fun but relaxing atmosphere that makes you feel at home! Tried the soup of the day, Broccoli Cheddar, and it was fantastic. All of the workers here are committed and very friendly!

In a mall full of fast food and (fairly) disgusting options, this cafe soars above other eateries. The mac and cheese is slamming, the grilled pbj is amazing and their frozen drinks always on point. Not to mention I have never been disappointed in the service. I will definitely be back to try some of their other food.

This shop, along with several surrounding shops offer free wifi, meaning you can always connect to the Internet while here.Prices are on par with coffee houses in the area. There menu lacks any real food, but they also dont come off as an eatery so theres no surprise there.Ive been here over a dozen times and the employees have always been friendly and quick to take my order.
