A very nice little museum for Savannah College of Art and Design. I came here during a road trip, partly because I am considering going to SCAD for my Masters and also just out of wanderlust. They had several exhibits from different students and alumni. I think my favorite was the Ring Redux collection by Susan Grant Lewin. As a sculptor, I found the multitude of totally unique rings very fascinating and I thought it was a very cool idea for an exhibit!

What a museum.Galleries progress in a loop.Beautiful, open, light interior spaces are interspaced with dark caves for film screening.Student docents are in most galleries, offering up some real enthusiasm. To me, this museum is an ideal size for the visual attention span - expect to spend the length of a feature film here. And the featured collections were a wild ride of diverse perspectives and media forms.Well done, SCAD Museum.

There were many interesting exhibits to see while we were there. Videos have their own room with bean bags to sit on which is nice. They have educated people among the artwork to help better understand and get to know the art pieces you are looking out.

If you like MODERN art, you will enjoy this thoughtfully curated small museum. We went at 3:30 on a Friday and got discounted admission! Unless you are someone who enjoys staring at everything for an hour, honestly, an hour is all you need. All the docents know a lot of about the art and can give you insight to the pieces you are looking at. I really enjoyed knowing some of the back story and inspiration behind the works. I think its a worthy place to go.

This is a small museum, but it is not tiny. We saw many interesting pieces, and there was a room with a movie screen that is extended in front of you. There are cushions on the floor meant for reclining and watching the film. The film was very artsy LOL of course - visually stunning, jarring, and at times confusing, but never boring. The film was beautifully shot. The museum has a tranquil outdoor courtyard for sitting. We visited on a warm December day.

Things we liked: The staff was friendly and let us know that if we had a Bank Of America card that we could get in for free. So I got in free and my wife got in for only $5 for having an out-of-town student ID. Thanks! Things we didnt like: Almost everything else. I know, I know, art is so subjective and isnt something easily defined but listen... The stuff we looked at is the kind of art that people make fun of. Sunglasses in a glass box, a suitcase in the middle of the floor, the things that spin in a carwash, construction materials?... I think at one point there was a dark room with a video on a loop of someone in a bear suit? Im surprised there was no banana taped to a wall. Were not total Neanderthals either -- Im a musician and writer and my wife is a dancer. We typically enjoy art museums but I guess this visit was just a little too advanced for us. We expected a large museum of technically focused art but what we found was only one floor of deeply conceptual art. Im eternally grateful that we only payed $5 to walk through this. At least we came out with a hilarious story.

I brought my twin boys (age 9) to the opening day of this museum. We have been anticipating this for quite sometime now, marking the progress of the renovation of old, historic structures with modern ones this past year. What an incredible place! The space is outstanding for displaying artwork, the grounds are beautifully designed with sensitivity to century old remnants. Parking was not a problem, and there is also the visitor public parking lot just next door if a street space is not available. The exhibits were fantastic and easy to view and admire. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful and really seemed to enjoy their job. We spent two hours, even revisiting several of the exhibits for a second time. You do not want to miss this, even if you are not a typical visitor of art museums.

We LOVED it. We were almost put off by all the negative reviews but so glad we went anyway. It’s a smaller museum but there was PLENTY to look at. It took us over an hour to go through it which felt like the perfect amount of time. The selection of art was very cool as was the architecture of the building. I thought the price was more than reasonable and we stopped for some sandwiches in the small cafe before leaving. Excellent, excellent experience.

My husband, daughter, who is a SCAD student, and I visited the museum last week and, as usual, were fascinated and impressed with the diverse and amazing exhibits. The fashion display was awesome. The wood pieces that weighed tons and were composed of thousands of individual pieces intricately joined together were mind blowing. The Madonna media exhibit was so clever and entertaining. Drawing with Light was fascinating in its simplicity. We always enjoy the museum and this visit was no exception. Bravo SCAD1

It was alright, definitely worth it factoring in the Bank of America discount half of our group got. Neat modern art exhibits, with a little bit of fashion, architecture, and a historic exhibit of art themed on Frederick Douglass. I would recommend SCADstory and the Jepson center instead while they’re around if you have to pick.

Its not huge, but the exhibitions that are here are REALLY fantastic. Photography, 3-d design, artworks, sculpture, fashion...each exhibition was one of the best Ive seen anywhere and I only wish we could return again and again! Also half to say the staff (who I think were mostly SCAD students?) were engaged, friendly and really informative about each artists process and explaining the artwork.

Very nice, but a bit small. I had to go for my Art final and review the art. I had planned for at least a couple hours, but was surprised when I flew through it within a half hour, if that. I even asked the employee to make sure I didnt miss anything. Some employees were nice and offered information, while others watched you like a hawk. Awkward.

The SCAD Museum of Art was an interesting study in contradictions. I found the artwork largely uninteresting and inaccessible. The rest of the family, though, seemed to really like it. We all thought we were going to see exhibits of artwork by the students at the school, which I would have found much more interesting and engaging. The admission seems very high for the limited number of pieces on display, and I echo others reviews pointing out that the space isnt that large and much of it was wasted. The place needs better signage to keep people moving in the right direction (we got into an area with restrooms and exits to the outside but no way back into the exhibits without the friendly intervention of a security guard). They confiscated our backpacks upon entry and, while their claim check system worked well and seems consistent with other art museums we have visited, it was just a bit off-putting.

Spacious layout, this regional college art gallery could be challenging to those expected a traditional art museum with art from past centuries. We only expererienced contemporary works there. If there was more upstairs, we werent aware of it. The students who staff the entrance were very kind and eager to inform us of the Savannah College of Art and Design concept of combining the current times and experiences in tandem with the old. I loved the entrance walls with 18th century art and contemporary images that reflected the similarities of people. Inside the museum, I found the student docents to be mostly helpful and eager to share their outlooks on the art, explaining the interpretation to us if we asked. I think I offended one when I offered a different interpretation, but I was really just curious. In the long hallway on the back outside of the building were some interesting installations. Again, when we asked, the docent was very eager to tell us about the installation process and more. Overall, it was a very good visit. Took 45 minutes - hour, and we passed on the exhibit on the opposite side of the lobby. Theres a pretty little coffee shop, very modern. We didnt buy anything, but it looked interesting.

As a former student, the SCAD Museum had a lot of build up that I never really saw a follow through for. The building itself is definitely beautiful, still trying to understand the atrium though. I just finding myself wishing for more in terms of the actual exhibits. The museum also puts the students in a bit of a predicament because the hours when the museum is closed, the courtyard is as well. This courtyard is attached to a SCAD 24 hour academic building, that without access to the courtyard, loses a major entrance and exit.I really enjoyed the Black Dress exhibit and wish that the museum could include more enticing collections like that one. I give the museum a higher vote just in the hopes that it will start including more exhibits like this. I would also love if the museum were to have a SCAD student collection on display at all times, because I feel like if people wish to visit a SCAD Museum, we should showcase what weve got right under our noses on our own campus.

I have PTSD. I can’t be in a loud, dark space and in order to go anywhere in the museum you have to go through an unbeliavably loud theatrical sound installation. Poorly thought through. Another tourist trap!- No brochure or map of the museum.- No posted description of the current art work.- Over-priced for such an INCOMPLETE exhibition.- Lacks information about art work, artist concept/goals, etc.- Most importantly, no posted sign Parental discretion or explicit content..., we walked into this gallery where sculptures had exposed the male and female genitalia. My little girl was very ashamed and offended, very uncomfortable for her. Norhing against the art work, but a sign giving a heads up to at least make my little girl aware and out of respect ask her. Totally fail...Well, you have been warned, unless you like architecture, the galleries are still in diapers and artists or whatever they are need to be more technical and less conceptual.
