Walk a short way out of the central tourist area and you will come to this lovely coffee shop, a locals place. Excellent coffee, good breakfast eats, mostly vegetarian, but dont let that stop you. Outdoor seating in front, but there is a large patio in the back. Ditch Starbs for once and support a local business.

I normally love the sentient bean. I travel to Savannah for work and always eat there. However, today when ordering delivery, not only was the delivery person not very friendly, my egg and cheese croissant was made with half a croissant and half a slice of toast. I also ordered to giant smoothies and still received a small. For what I paid I’m extremely disappointed.

Went for Sunday brunch, advertised as 9am-12pm. Arrived at 9:45 and the brunch menu was “not ready yet,” so we had to sit and wait 15 minutes. The farmers market bowl was great — a nice mix of vegetables and tofu scramble with bread on the side. But the special pancakes were definitely a letdown…very plain and dry, with no toppings (just syrup and vegan butter). Wanted chai but it was out of stock despite being prominently displayed on the specials board. There was constantly a line for the bathroom because it’s a single stall and non-customers come in from the park to use it, so we had to wait quite a while for the bathroom. I’ve seen other coffee shops solve this by putting a code lock on the bathroom and changing the code daily, so maybe that could help.

This place is a true gem! The staff is great - especially Katie and Ty are super friendly and fun. What a nice people - you feel the good vibes. The garden is beautiful and relaxing. It feels like you are in Europe. The food is diverse and very tasty. There is a bulletin board where you can hang up adds.Lawrence is in charge of renting the place during after hours and he is a professional event planner, accommodating and friendly. Yes - you can actually rent this place for private events or classes for a very reasonable price during after hours and it comes with staff to sell drinks during your event. They even have a projector, if you want to use a slideshow or use video. I highly recommend this place to hang out during business hours or host private events during after hours! Thank you Sentient Bean !

Great coffee! We really enjoyed the iced and hot coffees. Staff recognized us on our second visit and thanked us for coming back. Didn’t give 5 stars because we didn’t really enjoy our food (yogurt, oatmeal, banana bread) but based on other reviews, sounds like I should have gotten the burrito. This coffee shop was busy both days we visited around 10am. Consider grabbing a coffee and then taking a stroll through the park across the street.

My husband and I came here months ago (while on a work trip) and bought some coffee beans. My husband loved them so much when we got home I made sure I stopped by again this trip to pick up more! I was excited when I saw Sentient Bean while searching for vegan restaurants. Especially after reading the mission statement, containing phrases like, conscious eating and community activism. From the marketing, youd assume this was a vegan restaurant, with integral ethics. However, they actually serve products that contribute to the suffering of sentient beings which goes against the marketed environment of the restaurant. Regardless, I tried one of their vegan options, and it was inedible. All in all, I left with my positive first impression destroyed and replaced with disappointment and a bad taste in my mouth. 0 stars. Would not recommend.

Vegan breakfast burrito was great! Scrambled tofu with black beans, spinach, tomato, house made vegan sausage, and a vegan spicy mayonnaise. They were super busy, so it did not have very much sausage in it - I think I had 1 piece at the bottom. If you order it, get it with a side of the spicy mayo because there isn’t enough in the burrito. Very extensive coffee and tea menu, lots of flavors you can add! Guy at the front needed a hug though, but I’ll be back to give him one.

Friendly service. We got the BBQ wrap and These tacos r nutz! They were so good and full of flavor. I wasnt sure how to feel about the walnut crumbles but heck they were so delicious and perfectly seasoned. The slaw was fresh and citrusy. Very cool atmosphere, and excellent location. Staff is friendly, and fast. If you walk in to a long line, youll be through in no time. There is a wonderful assortment of treats, and small meals. A lot of vegan options, as well as gluten free. Hands down some of the best coffee in Savannah. Always very robust, and tasty. Cards are accepted for purchases over $5. Great place to pop in for a coffee to walk around the park with, or hangout with a book or friends.

Absolutely loved this place! My family and I were visiting from out of town and stumbled upon it during a walk around Forsythe Park. So glad we did! This place seemed like a very cool brunch spot. The cashier was really nice. Unfortunately, they didn’t have anything I was wanting to order. This is not normally a place I’d pick for myself, but I’m so glad we went! My friend had the rose lavender pancakes and I’d have to say they were my favorite. Im vegan, so you can imagine my enthusiasm for eating in places like this. I ordered the vegan super bowl which base is quinoa. It left a lot to be desired ... come on, you cant call that a super bowl. Supposedly it included tempeh, I never had the pleasure to see or taste it -and when I complained about it they pulled my leg. My partner asked for a sandwich, as you can see, it was pure bread and zero filling. Worse still, the bread was dry.

Healthy and fresh food— nothing special, but normal for a coffee shop. We didn’t try the coffee/teas though, so maybe that’s their specialty. People can move chairs around, so by the time we were ready to sit, there were many open tables but no chairs to sit in. I am SO appreciative of the eco-conscious atmosphere and recyclable/compostable utensils, so that makes up for it. And very friendly cashiers!!

Was super excited to try this place out and love the art. However, the service was terrible. Please hire better baristas. One particular male barista with a pony tail and tinted sunglasses was rude and unfriendly. I worked as a barista for several years, it’s not a stressful job and not that hard to be nice. If you dont like your job or can’t handle it, don’t take it out on customers who just want a coffee. I didn’t find his comment to friendly but was going to let it slide until I mentioned it to the people I was with and they were in shock that he spoke that way to a paying customer.

Have been visiting the “ Bean” when in town for more than a decade, love this place. However this visit, 1/25/21 was slightly disappointing. Had to ask to have tables cleaned as they all had crumbs. A little understandable after coffee rush at 9:30 am.After wiping down, table so wet had to get napkins and dry myself.People behind counter here always very polite and nice, but something is missing with the charm of days gone by, no bulletin board or couches and feels like owners just not watching the store closely. Maybe its just me, and Ill keep coming back. Best coffee in town, worth the mile and a half walk.
