Fantastic place. Lots of yummies!

Stopped in after reading the overly positive reviews. They werent exaggerated. Super friendly owner. Greeted me as soon as I entered. Genuinely friendly, not aggressively suspicious per stereotype. His family was having dinner in the store. Felt like I was in someones home in a good way. Huge instant ramen selection! Decent prices. I will be back..

Nice selection of foods from the near and far east. We shop here about once a month, when in the mood to cook something different. The gentleman at the register( my guess is the owner of the shop) is very friendly and super helpful when i ask questions.

This shop offers a wonderful variety of Oriental goods that are hard to find in this area. The owners are kind and helpful when you do need help. I believe they also offer cooked meals for eating in one day of the week, though I dont know the details of this. Some of their goods for sale seem to be prepared and packaged in store which means they are FRESH. SO FRESH. I definitely recommend checking this place out- its worth my drive down all the way from the UTC area!

Maybe Im biased, but I love this place. The owners are friendly and the selection is pretty good for a store of its size. Its also quite clean, and the Saturday lunch options are delicious. My only complaint is that there are some items that I really like that went out of stock and never came back, so I guess Id prefer a more constant selection of items.

The have so many cool things on the shelf. If you can think of it they have it. Their 🔥 chili oil made my day. The only thing I wanted that they didnt have was a large gong

This place truly is a hidden gem, with the kindest and most welcoming owners! There is always something new to discover every time I come here, and the prices are pretty reasonable as well! And the best part about this is that you are supporting a small family business. I never feel bad about spending money here!

Taste of Hongkong at Gulf Gate.Very good . Best Chinese food around after trying for a long time to find good Chinese food like up north. We think we finally found the place. Next we have to check the shrimp in lobster sauce. That will be the true test to get that last star.Service was excellent. Prices fair. Food was very good and the closest to the great Chinese food up north.

Love their grocery store. They have souvenir for gifts for birthday or for yourself. Been there some many times. On that note, they make all kinds of homemade kimchi

It is somewhat difficult to find an asian market that provides FRESH, hard to find items. My wife is Japanese and is very happy with the freshness, quality, cleanliness, and the helpful attitude of the owners. If you are in the area, give them a try. You will be glad you did!

Very friendly, a little small but very clean. Prepackaged veggies are nice so you dont have to touch a lot of things.They have all sorts of Asian produce and products, and a lot of Korean items! Fresh thai basil, fresh bean sprouts, fresh chinese broccoli, napa cabbage, etc etc.Bulk rice, rice vinegar, sambal olek, soy sauce, gochujang, nori, etc are available. They also sell alcohol like sake 🍶 and sochu.Happy to find a Kosher gochujang brand here (OFoods brand), as well as kosher sweet rice flour, soy sushi sheets, miso, and sake.

Friendly and professional atmosphere, amazing customer service and selection. And the smell coming from the Korean food cooking at the back of the store smelled incredible! Will definitely be visiting again soon. Highly recommend.

A good store with a little bit of everything. But if you want specific items from lets say the Philippines, you need to go to a Filipino store.

Lovely couple run the business. They make their own Shumai and Gyoza and its frozen. Such helpful people. Community loves them. Buy some of their dumplings! They are in un marked bags

Local, Gulf Gate area Asian market. From snacks, vegetables, spices and condiments to cooking utensils, frozen items and a variety of rice, you will find what you need to make your favorite asian recipes. On Saturdays, they serve freshly cooked Korean food. Pick up some Kim Chee in the refrigeration section and you have a wonderful, reasonably priced meal! I found the owners to be very nice and helpful in every aspect. Its a great little gem of a place! Always clean and well stocked. One of my favorite places to shop!

Awesome market, sushi grade tuna and they sell eel, my favorite. And the homemade eel sauce is the bomb. They have little all the ingredients you need. I was able to get all the things I wanted to make little fish (anchovies) mmmm, love this place and the owners, they are so nice, friendly and helpful!!

We LOVE this store. The owners are super nice. They have home cooked food in the back you can purchase. They are a bit pricy but no more than another mom and pop oriental market. They have some yummy foods fresh and available (fridge) that I would normally get at a sushi restaurant like seaweed salad, pickles diakon, squid salad (I forgot the name but its so good) make sure to check their fridge/freezer section and the back of the store for fresh cooked food. Also, try the frozen fish shaped bean curd things (forgot name) they are so good too! Love this place!!

Helpful and friendly owners. Good selection of Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Indian products, including high-quality frozen seafood, fresh produce, Asian peppers and really big bags of rice! They always take the time to provide good advice on tackling unfamiliar dishes, something I always appreciate.

First time there tonight. Ordered for pickup. Read the reviews on Google and they werent wrong!!! Some of the best Chinese food Ive ever had in the state of Florida!!!! Will definitely be back. Portions were large and pricing was just right. Enough for 2-3 meals.

Great store in a city that has very little to offer in the way of ethnic markets. They have a good mix of very authentic Asian ingredients and products from a number of Asian cuisines, mixed with some that are more Americanized for the less educated or squeamish. Everyone that works there is very friendly and helpful. Im a little spoiled being a chef that has lived in NYC and other major cities that have more Asian and other ethnic markets than you can dream of. The only con I can offer is that they dont have Pearl River brand soy sauces and they dont have the thick authentic Egg Roll Wrappers. They have the thick authentic won-ton wrappers so Im not sure why they dont have the Egg Roll skins as well. Please get these for me!!!!! Love this store.

I had been going to this store long (many years) before the current owners took over the store. Needless to say I supported this store for many (24) years. Being Korean myself I would order the huge jar of kimchee on a consistent basis. When the current owners took over all of a sudden they started charging sales tax on kimchee (not to mention charging a quite hefty price for mediocre at best kimchee). Kimchee is basically pickled cabbage, equivalent to pickles in a jar. Hmm I thought that’s not right. When I buy a jar of pickles (also a prepared food) at Publix I’m not charged sales tax. It’s not like buying a sub from the Publix deli which IS a prepared food made especially for me and ready to eat. To charge sales tax on a jar of pickles isn’t right. In fact when I buy kimchee at Publix or at Walmart I don’t pay sales tax (I’ve bought kimchee at both places). So I mentioned it to the owner. He got extremely angry at me and refused to sell me the kimchee and basically threw me out of the store! This is after supporting their business for 24 years (well before they took it over). That was months ago. So today I went there because my daughter had a craving for kimchee. The owners wife was at the front counter and outright refused to sell me kimchee saying I “complained” about their kimchee when the real truth is that I caught them cheating the customers by charging sales tax on a food item that doesn’t warrant sales tax but these people are so money hungry that that discreetly charge sales tax on items that they shouldn’t. Now I must admit their kimchee is by no means as good as “the real thing” but in Sarasota the selection of Asian is slim at best - “slim pickings”. But I was totally shocked that she had the nerve to refuse my business especially after ALL these years of supporting their establishment, and when they know very well that they are illegally charging sales tax on an item that shouldn’t be charged sales tax on!. I will never return there for as long as the current owners are there. I will be reporting them to the county for fraudulently charging customers sales tax on food items and hope they get fined or better yet be forced to shut down for their fraudulent practices (kimchee is not the only food item they charge sales tax on). If I could rate them with 10 negative stars I would! The owners of this store are naive and playing with the law and will get caught very soon. Cheating customers and pocketing the proceeds from fraudulently charging sales tax and not report it (because there is no sales tax for food) is a felony and they will be punished.

(Update) Still going just less with Covid.There are a few Oriental Food Markets around Sarasota, This one is clean and the owners are nice and will answer many questions you may have. The cost for items seams a bit stiff but all the items are imported and good quality. I frequent this store a few times a month.

So glad we found this shop - incredible selection of not only Asian staples but also of unique items - the sake selection is quite impressive and there are lots of frozen items and fresh take-away items, like incredible spicy squid! The owners are very friendly and super-helpful - we will be back for sure before the end of our trip to Florida.....dont miss this hidden gem!

Just about anything you need for Asian cooking. A bright clean store filled with all sorts of ready to eat goodies. On Saturday they make noodles and bul goggi and Bim Bim bop to go. Very nice owners.

Great place for everything Oriental and not just Chinese. It is overwhelming as to the variety and you could become Chinese just by spending three minutes there. The owner knows what hes doing the prices are fair, they are open late. In the back is refrigerated with frozen oriental foods where you can get fish. Pork vegetables dumpling and every kind of soy sauce ever invented.Learn to be a cook and just think how much money you can save by not going out to Chinese three times a week!

I own a Latin restaurant just around the corner from this little market. It may sound funny that a chef from a Latin restaurant would be shopping at an Asian Market, but we do have an eclectic menu, and they offer so many cool ingredients, that I cant stay away. I think that the aspect of the store that is so unique is that they carry products from so many Asian countries. Most of the time, you have to make several stops to get everything that you need, but not here. Very clean, and very knowledgeable staff. Fun place to go and just look around, but dont be afraid to ask questions!

My favorite place for all things oriental! My co worker gave me a packet of instant ginger when I was sick with a cold last year. It was fantastic! I asked him where he purchased it and he directed me to this awesome grocery/gift store! From the moment I walked in I knew Id be a loyal customer. I absolutely love this little store. They have so many great things - and more than just food. Also, its really not overpriced. On Saturdays they make food in the store that is really great. We always get their vegan sushi. Just make sure you specify several times that you only want vegetables. The owners of the store are really sweet people. I consider myself a regular - they won me over for sure.

This a very friendly, helpful, and clean place. They have a huge selection of spices and sauces, bases and meats (and its a small space!). Its a wonderful find. They have great seaweed and mushroom options as well. My daughter loves to pick out special treats and looks forward to the trip.

This is my very favorite Koren etc. Grocery Store. Not only for the groceries, also for the food they prepare and sell on premises. The owner and her husband are wonderful. They are very helpful with recipies and any questions you may have. Try them, you will amazed in their little store. I drive from Venice just to visit them.

Used to shop at other Asian market in town, until we moved closer to Oriental Food & Gifts. We much prefer this market, now! The staff is VERY friendly, kind and considerate. We love the options (which is quite a lot for a smaller place). This is now our go-to shop for all ingredients asian. My wife makes Thai dishes, Vietnamese dishes, Japanese Dishes and we are satisfied! A definite recommendation!

So many products have MSG! Not to mention totally overpriced...I go to other Asian markets in Sarasota and Tampa and they are way cheaper! Also, the worker/owner is incredibly rude and unprofessional. She and her parents will smile at you and then turn around and gossip. Watch yourself there and check your bill closely! If you have the option, I highly recommend an alternative, especially since its not clear where a lot of this food it sourced from.

I needed a few items that were not available in the regular grocery stores, one being sweet rice flour to make a gluten free dessert. I got helped very quickly and she found both of the products I was looking for. I noticed many interesting products that I will probably go back and buy. Great inventory and layout, and friendly, quick service.

Quite a comprehensive selection of grocery, frozen and fresh foods sold by friendly folks. Recently, I was looking for an obscure item the owner had not heard of. She took the time to call a friend who owns a restaurant in town to make sure she was giving me the right product!
