Small space but seating was available inside at around 2pm. Great variety of chocolate treats from truffles to brownies. A little of the chocolate drink goes a long way, especially the spicy ones. The 3 oz espresso-sized drinks were perfect. I recommend adding whipped cream to cut through the thick richness of the chocolate.Staff is helpful in making decisions since everything looks amazing. Well worth a cost especially since it’s in a great sightseeing area to walk around.
Delicious! And actually celiac friendly!! The friendly staff was amazing and willing to accommodate my husband with Celiacs disease (gluten allergy). Thank you!! We had an incredible gluten free brownie with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. It was the perfect size to share. We will be back next time we are in town!
Chili hot chocolate is surprisingly good, but definitely go for the small size. I think the larger one wouldve been overwhelming. If youre unsure about which hot chocolate to choose, ask to sample.Ice cream was really good, we got the regular chocolate. But it comes pre-packaged from another store. No mixing of flavors.
Its been a while but I still remember how great this place was! The barista was super patient and friendly. I sampled like half the menu before deciding, and it was certainly not an easy decision because everything tasted great. The ambience was relaxed and cozy and warm. Even the cup was so cute. Looking forward to visiting this place again one day!
We have the spicy chocolate drinks and red Chile pecan brownie. The counter staff are kind to offer samples of the spicy and original chocolate drinks to help us decide if we are good with the spicy version. The heat from the drink will just linger in your throat for a few seconds.A great place for chocolate lovers.
We would definitely come back here again...the chocolate and the cocoa was divine! So rich and wonderful. Went to Santa Fe for a girls weekend and we all walked out of there with delicious treats to take back home (though some of us finished them before ever leaving Santa Fe :)The staff was super friendly and the young lady that helped me recommended the horchata truffle, which was excellent! These were packaged beautifully in a little gift box and I was able to safely travel with them on our car ride home with a little ice in a zipblock bag to keep them cool. My family totally enjoyed them when I got home. We actually cut each chocolate into thirds, so all three of us could try them all. The truffles are totally worth the price for a special treat, so rich and delish! I sampled and purchased the chili cocoa and also the Marie Antoinette....cant wait till the weather gets a little cooler around here to enjoy them! This really is a fun little shop and totally worth the stop! The place was totally hoppin when we got there...but that gave you plenty of time to check out the chocolates! Go here...you will be happy you did! :)
Really like kakawa. They have really tasty drinking chocolate. Im always looking for good chocolate and i also really like spicy food. They put red chile in some of their chocolate and it really adds a tasty flavor to it. For those who dont like spice, they have truffles, carmels, and more thwt doesnt have chile in it. But really anything you get from here will taste amazing
I am a chocolate enthusiast. And I have tried choclate from many different places. This definitely has my forever attention. As long as your willing to pay $3:50 per truffle, itll be well worth your money. If its your first time youll get a sample of their amazing chocolate elixir. And this is a must buy! Organic housemade ice cream is also sold here.
Oh, my. If you are a chocoholic, this place is for you. Delicious drinks, ice cream, and the most heavenly chocolate Ive ever tasted. On par with European confectioners, these artisan chocolates are worth every penny and all the calories. Highly addictive! Friendly service, lovely setting, outdoor tables.
I cant say enough good things about this place...such a unique experience! The drinking chocolate was amazing and having it with the homemade whip cream - yum! The staff were so helpful and incredibly friendly. I cant wait to come back the next time I visit Santa Fe. In the meantime, I bought one of their chocolate elixirs so that I can make some drinking chocolate at home!!
This was a fun spot to visit! Outdoor seating to enjoy your hot chocolate on; when we were there last week they didn’t have indoor seating open at the time. They were sold out of the flight, but the 3 oz hot chocolates are the perfect size for tasting (definitely add the whipped cream too). We all agreed on The Jeffersonian bring the best pick. We also enjoyed a brownie and ice cream. Highly recommend visiting here if you’re in town!
Best drinking chocolate I’ve ever had! They offer little tastings of all their chocolate, so we got to sample everything before deciding what to get. The 100% chocolate with chili was amazing, as was the 70%. I got mine with store made whipped cream which was delicious and decadent. Can’t wait to go back to Kakawa!
The chocolate elixirs are nothing short of heavenly. Today I had “chili“ 100% cacao with a little coconut sugar. In another universe, this is what pumps through my veins. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This place is so adorable and absolutely a must-go for any chocolate lover out there. The elixers were...well...life giving. SO yummy. I got a small box of assorted chocolates. Everything was delicious. I ended up trying the chocolate covered red chili and WOW - that was spicy. I definitely underestimated how hot it was going to be, but enjoyed every bite. The only negative was with our order. They charged us, gave us the receipt, and said everything was in the box. However, we ordered a macaroon too! We ended up opening up the whole box to find that it wasnt there and went back to the counter. Staff was SUPER nice about it though! And the macaroon was delicious :) I will definitely return and we for sure tell my visiting friends and family.
Definitely a unique spot! We came around closing but the workers were still super patient and friendly. We only tried the truffles and caramels (lavender caramel, sea salt caramel, prickly pear truffle, green chili margarita truffle, pomegranate truffle), and we are definitely coming back for more caramels and to try the elixirs. The one warning I have to give is that the flavors are VERY true to their names. The essence is strong in all the chocolates - for example, the pomegranate is very sour and I could not finish it. I personally would prefer them tone down their flavors in certain chocolates, but I could definitely see why they keep it the way they do. I think if you have a person in your life who loves trying strong flavors for the experience of it, this is the place to go to get a luxury gift that’s still out of the ordinary.
This was on our tourist list for a Santa Fe visit and it exceeded my expectations! My household has dark hot chocolate for breakfast (rather than coffee) and this shop has a trove of specialty hot chocolates and mixes. The ambiance at their cafe was great indoors and out.
Amazing little shop with the best chocolate Ive ever had. Service was kind and helpful. It feels like you are paying a premium price but you are getting a premium product and a little goes a long ways when enjoying both truffles and elixers.
Tony at Kakawa knows what hes doing. Man the mango sorbet and chocolate ice cream are to die for.. I had a hot chocolate in the winter and it was just amazing. Locals have to try this place. Worth every penny.
Great place. Gotta try it if youve never been!
Great service and a very unique chocolate experience! We walked over from Old Town Santa Fe in the early evening and came about ten minutes after they closed. The owner saw us outside and opened back up just to let us come get some chocolate. The chocolate was very well-crafted and the attention to detail was phenomenal. They have some really unique flavors that are worth trying, but may not be for the average chocolate eater. Some of the ones we tried were chili, sage, and lavender. I really enjoyed them! You dont get to try chocolates like that every day. Next time, I need to try their chocolate elixirs. Make sure to stop by if you are in Santa Fe for a fun local experience with extremely warm and caring owners. You wont be disappointed!
Wowowoweezooowww it’s difficult to describe in words the taste of the best chocolate in America. High quality ingredients and passion are the best flavors I didn’t know chocolate have. I normally do not consume carbohydrates BUT this was the best, most valuable “cheat” and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The Zapoteca 100% coffee was a fabulous treat on its own, sans sucre ( I will go back there just for that, soon hopefully).
A magical oasis of cocoa delights in the enchanted city of Santa Fe! The helpful and friendly chocolate consultant started us off with samples of elixers that mingled flavors of cocoa and New Mexico chili in a rich warm sweet and spicy... elixer. Because it was a hot day, we opted for their home made ice cream. The Azteca has the same combination of chocolate and New Mexico chili as the elixer. Add fresh made whipped cream and there cant be a better afternoon treat! But wait! We found a way. Add a few pieces of their dark chocolate creations on the side to nibble along with the ice cream and you arrive at the pinnacle of decadent indulgence. Awesome!
Delicious! The hot chocolate with rose was rich and spicy. They gave us samplers which was so appreciated. And Tony, the owner, is a gem! Never rushed and super welcoming staff. Thank you!
This place is definitely worth the hype. Im not a chocolate freak but I am always up for something different or out of the ordinary. I had the hundred percent dark chocolate with the chili and coconut milk. If you are adventurous, I think the best truffle is the goat cheese one and if youre brave, try the chocolate dipped pepper, its awesome
Ive been to Santa Fe twice and Kakawa Chocolate House is the only place I visited during both trips. Its such a special little spot with welcoming indoor & outdoor spaces to savor your chocolate/s. Both times Ive been helped by Tony, the owner, whos an absolute delight and provided excellent customer service! If I visit Santa Fe again Ill make my way back to KCH for sure. Thanks, Tony & team!
Face it, I love chocolate. Their truffles are not only great but are not the typical flavors found in most chocolate shops. Definitely a southwest influence and a real treat. Service was outstanding and the prices are what you would expect for good chocolate.
This is my must visit place when I come into town! I’m a chocolate lover and this place blows any other out of the water. If you’re not getting the elixers you’re missing out for sure. Everything is so well made, delicious, and fresh!!! The staff are outstanding and I believe it’s the owner, that gentleman goes above and beyond for his customers. Everyone there goes out of their way for you and it is my favorite place to visit in Santa Fe for sure.
Location not very good. Little parking space. Prices are a little high. Excellent flavors.
Delicious unique flavored chocolate. Enjoyed the Aztec Chocolate Chili. The truffles were great as well. Staff was friendly
First of all, the customer service is impeccable! The chocolates are phenomenal. I was particularly impressed by the sipping chocolates. Imagine the best flourless cake you ever had in a rich elixir. Its a must try!
Fun spot. Good chocolate. Staff and service were excellent! Good variety.
They were SUPER BUSY but the staff was great and the hot chocolate and truffles are out standing. This is the place for. Your chocolate craving.
New and different flavors, friendly staff and fast service.Would recommend for their different chocolate flavors.
Friendliest and most helpful staff imaginable. Everyone there was absolutely delightful. Now, the chocolate: there is NO better chocolatier I’ve ever been to in America. Had about 12 truffles + 3 elixirs in my group, and we loved every single one of them. They specialize in making chile digestible in a fun way! I’m planning to move back to Santa Fe soon, and Kakawa would be a regular spot!
Super crowded on a Saturday afternoon - long line and not a lot of tables inside. Also, the chocolates didnt seem very kid friendly - more for adults.
Wonderful experience at the Kakawa Chocolate House. They have a wide variety of local and foreign Elixirs to choose from. Depending on your preference you can determine how bold of a favor youd like. Staff was super knowledgeable and provided samples prior to ordering. Added homemade whipped cream and that was a must have. They also have homemade ice cream too which you I will be trying next time!
If you like chocolate and coffee this is a place to check out on your visits to Santa Fe.Sure lots of tourists visit and youve seen in on YouTube but judge for yourself.Bring your piggy bank if you have kids because its a little on the price side but worth it.
So much fun! Try the Mayan elixir, full of cocoa, herbs, nuts and flavor. They have chocolates in the shape of Mayan hieroglyphs off to the side of the main case. We tried the chili chocolate, key lime, black raspberry and French chocolate. Cute little chocolate house that is an experience.
Too crowded. People bumping into you to get to the counter. Workers were friendly and helpful, but did not stop the jockeying for position. The selection of items was extensive and tasty. It was so busy I decided to order treats to take home on line and have them shipped. Avoid the crowds
Spent way too much money here during our week stay in Santa Fe but it was worth it. The service was always excellent. The drinks were always delicious. The brownies are fantastic. Prices are steep but when you’re on vacation... 🤷🏻♀️ 😉 We also loved that they let us sample the different hot chocolate flavors!
Best dessert shop in town is well-earned.The chocolate has a unctuous fullness and spicy backdrop, very satisfying even after a couple of truffles. The ice cream tastes like Im eating a cloud.Next time Im in Santa Fe I will be gladly coming back.
The 4 of us tried different things. Milk shakes were running more like chocolate milk. One had mint chocolate chip ice cream very minty. The other had dark chocolate with fudge. Way to much chocolate. Very friendly staff. Extremely over priced for what you get.
Only in town a few days but came here twice. Really unique menu offerings and everything we had was deliciously
Omggggg this is the beat place to get chocolate or chocolate for coffee. They have a big selection of hot chocolate powder which they all are delicious!!! I recommend the modern Mexican, chili kakawa American, the Aztec, chai, (there’s another one I can’t remember zapoteca or Mixteca, something like that// there’s many tribes in Mexico 😂) I also got a piñon brownie, and some truffles which all where amazing 🤩 I swear u won’t be disappointed 🤤Great costumer service and super friendly staff, well knowledgeable on chocolate (you can even try the hot chocolates before purchasing)Seriously recommend this place!!
Amazing, authentic, handmade. The hot chocolates are complex in their flavors. The truffles and candies are various, creative and incredibly rich and tasty.I stop by whenever I am within 10 miles of Santa Fe.
If you are dairy-free (vegan) looking for chocolate, this is your place!Their drinks are like liquid brownies. We went 2x in 3 days. :)
The chocolate and elixirs are amazing! And the owner is so nice. 10/10 recommend!
Great sales staff! Lots of samples before you purchase. Outdoor seating. Yummy CHOCOLATE.
The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and encouraged sampling of all of their elixirs for the day! Im allergic to corn syrup so I love that they dont use it in anything! We loved our elixirs so much we bought four bags to bring home as gifts. This place was such a treat!
Calling all chocolate lovers! Great place to stop for a quick pick-me-up between lunch & dinner. The staff are so sweet (no pun intended) and eager to have you sample their various chocolate elixirs. I enjoyed the Tonantzin with essence of rose; excellent flavor components and rich taste. You cant go wrong with whatever you decide. Located in a quaint stand alone structure not far from the Capitol building.
Delicious chocolate ELIXIRS! and the candy, oh my! I reccomend and Ill be back!
Followed the New York Times recommendations for Santa Fe to find this place and Im really glad I did. The hot chocolate is flavorful and complex. The truffles were rich and delicious. I highly recommend coming in and tasting the different kinds of drinking chocolate. Theyre all so different and so interesting. What a great place!
Delicious. Lots of blends. Can blend your own flavor choices as well. Delicious chocolate. Will definitely come again.
Absolutely the best chocolate! Friendly staff. Highly recommended!
The chocolate here is to die for..so many options of chocolate candies and brownies. Cannot forget to mention their selection of cocoas. So rich in flavor..be sure to ask for a sample before you decide. They are also very friendly. Would come back and recommend. Prices are a bit high however its worth it.
The elixirs were fabulous, the chocolate rich and beautiful. Tony was the best part! He joked with our 12 year old & was full of information. The dietary notifications were present on everything. I’m so impressed with everything about this place. We will come back next time we are in Santa Fe.
Out of this world! I’m from Ecuador and have tried loads of cacao and chocolate in my days. This place does it right. From drinks to truffles to down right amazing bars. The staff was equally sweet. Highly recommend for all. Loads of options for vegans too!
They were packed when we stopped by yet still have fast and friendly service. The chili elixir is so good!
Omg! This is the best chocolate I have ever had. Definitely not cheap but worth it. We had the passion fruit, horchata, key lime, and prickly pear truffles and loved all of them (although the prickly pear was a little too subtle for our tastes). The Mayan Chocolate elixir was amazing. Well worth the price, although it seems expensive for how small it is. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
The best chocolate ice cream I have ever had. Great chocolate drinks too, though make sure to drink slowly or you may get sick from the richness.
Wow!! The Gooat cheese and sage truffle was one of the best pieces of chocolate ever.
I’ve never been to a drinking chocolate house before! What a cool place. They let you sample their hot chocolate varieties if it’s your first time there. The drinks are amazing and house-made whipped cream is the perfect topping. They sell their hot chocolate mixes to be made at home too! Also, they have a variety of delicious truffles. The piñon nut caramel chocolate is phenomenal! The margarita truffle actually tastes like you’re chewing on a margarita. Everything here is really delicious.
Friendly staff that is knowledgeable about their menu items. A variety of chocolate truffles, drinks, brownies, ice cream, and chocolates. If you are a chocolate lover you need to visit!
Best chocolate ice cream I’ve ever had. Such a charming little place. Excellent customer service! Don’t leave Santa Fe without trying it.
LOVE THIS PLACE!!! My automatic go-to anytime I am anywhere near Santa Fe. In the past two years they’ve opened up a new location where they make their own ice cream, which is served at both locations. Absolutely incredible! My husband went in one day and they were out of the mint chocolate ice cream, so they called the location where it’s made to find out they had some available there. How thoughtful to check on that! We ordered an elixer, a few truffles/caramels and a milkshake for my husband, and then ventured over to the other one to get to try the mint chocolate and I’m happy to say it was totally worth it! Thanks again for your commitment and excellence in all you do! Already looking forward to next time.
Delivious ice cream, chocolate drinks and truffles. Treat yourself if in the area!
A great place to sooth your Chocolate addiction. They have amazing truffles, caramels, hot chocolate and more. Serving up traditional chocolate and some new New Mexican flavors you can find plenty of spicy treats along with a lot unique flavors. The friendly staff and great atmosphere makes Kakawa feel like a home away from home.Make sure you stop into one of their 2 locations if you are visiting Santa Fe and get a nice present for your loved ones and a few truffles and caramels to hide from them!
One of the best chocolate houses, a must visit.
Stopped here bc I heard good things about it but I wish I didnt waste the money. The lemonade berry was good. Wish I went to a different chocolate store.
Great service. They are generous with their hot chocolate sampling. But of course make sure you buy some lol! Hot chocolate was divine. All those I tasted were chocolate forward and well blended with sweetness and spice. All hot chocolates use almond milk (unless 100% and then water based) Ice creams are dairy. Lovely cosy place to sit and drink / eat
Overpriced chocolates that aren’t that great and the malts aren’t really thick as malts should be
Coffee ice cream was delicious!! Service was amazing!!!
Great little shop, fantastic chocolate of all types
Omg omg omgYou just...I cantAlllllll the things.....You need all the things from the Kakawa...All the things...Why are you not getting all the things right now.Go....Get all the things.Life is to short not to get all the things from the Kakawa.
