Dinner and a show well actually it’s breakfast and a show and it was fabulous what a beautiful mix of looking at a commercial bakery while dining in an elegant dining room having a wonderful breakfast with great coffee along with jazz music. The manager even inquired how I wanted my macchiato made knowing that there are many different styles (only in the US) We left happy with a big bag of fresh baked goods. Don’t be turned away by the outside appearances it’s completely different on the inside it’s a must try for breakfast in Santa Fe
REQUIRES masks (but not by the kids- 5 & 9). Refused service if we did not put on masks. Have adored it since 2008… coming through & had hoped to introduce my kids. So sad. Don’t they know that masks don’t even work?!?!
If you are getting married in Santa Fe, you HAVE to use Chocolate Maven!!! My wedding cake was such an important thing for me (I love sugar more than anything) and not only did they create the most stunning cake I had ever seen, but it was outrageously delicious!!! We also ordered pastries for our post wedding brunch, and they were all gone (dozens of them!!) in minutes! Just delicious and I cannot recommend Chocolate Maven enough!!!
My mother ordered a strawberry rhubarb pie for a very special birthday. She had a specific request for the lattice work, hoping the unique pattern could be done. WOW! Not only did they complete the request, they did so with smiles and joy! When we picked it up, we were beyond happy with how beautifully it turned out. Thank you!! He (ShaMonty) loved the pie AND the cake we picked up. You have customers for life!I must also add that the gluten free muffins were excellent!Thank you to the baker for creating such a visually delicious and yummy pie. (He is going blind and will no doubt remember this the rest of his life!). Thank you to the entire front end staff for your happiness and helpfulness.Cheers!!
The mascapone crepes were so good, not overly sweet. Blue corn pancakes were fire. I also got the huevos and that was really good
Im lazy. So I only write reviews when Ive had a jaw-droppingly phenomenal experience. Maven delivered exactly that! The blue corn blueberry pancake is a transformative experience. The eggs Benedict -- all of them --- are exquisite. The service is fast, Fri l friendly and well informed. The main dining room has a window into the kitchen so you can watch the pastry chefs do their magic. I cant wait for my next meal here!
A hidden gem! Wonderful bakery and restaurant! Friendly staff and our brunch was delicious! The peach French toast was exceptional and the eggs Benedict were delicious! The coffee was smooth and delicious! A must stop and definitely going back to try other entrees
As a food critic:The live baking is great,The seating next to the kitchen is funAnd the setup is charming. The parking a bad,The prices are extremely high compared to other restaurants in town. ($35 for a cake? whole food cakes are cheaper and tastier )Their selection for being in house baking is poor(They make the same things over and over )Thier pastries flavor are average .Your just buying the experience.
Outstanding! This place is a true gem. Very unique bakery with a full menu of interesting choices and some tried-and-true options. The window to the bakery made for a fun experience. It was delightful to watch these master bakers at work. Dont let the humble exterior fool you - this is a must visit!
Lovely place! Their breakfast and lunch menus have such great unique chooses. My grandma loves the atmosphere!
Super tasty food! Neat to watch the goodies being made behind the glass. Friendly staff
This bakery is amazing and High Tea while watching them bake is such a treat. The chocolate croissant and any of the chocolate cakes with the raspberry filling is so decadent and delicious! This is a must stop at when I am in town.
My goodness. What an experience. Came expecting a typical little cafe, and left completely blown away. The food and drink was all exceptional. Unique choices and heavenly alternative dishes- like tofu or blue wheat. The pancakes, peach french toast, breakfast sandwich, and tofu scramble were all fabulous. Coffee and hot chocolate was also amazing. Additionally, we got to be seated next to the clear panel separating the bakers and the dining area. It was so fun to dine on such delicious food and get to watch the obvious expertise of the chefs. Service and staff were all kind and welcoming. Over all, amazing experience and highly recommended.
Nice calm great atmosphere breakfast restaurant and bakery. Great food, a little pricey but well, well worth it!!! Great presentation and the taste is wonderful!Oatmeal would wow the oatmeal afficiando in you. The chilaquiles breakfast was wonderful. The hot chocolate with a Mexican/Mayan Chili mix was out of this world! And the pastries, my Lord, were the pastries good. Do not pass up the opportunity to try the raspberry and chocolate croissants! Try these please, they will not disappoint!Brendan Jones was our server and he was awesome!Thank you for the great experience!
Delicious brunch, and sitting right next to the bakery that makes their famous baked goods! Highly recommended.
Breakfast was so good! Staff great!
Chef Ben is awesome! Love dem Chilaquiles. My fave so far.
Surprisingly elegant and the food was amazing! From the outside, the joint looks like a metal shop with a white lattice deck; narrow parking lot, but there is ample parking on the street. When you walk into the entrance, your eyes delight in the sight of house-made pastries! Croissants, cinnamon twists, hand oies, tarts, cookies, cakes, cupcales- you name it. They even have vegan and gluten free options. We arrived at Sunday brunch and thought we might have to wait, but for a table of four, it was two minutes, tops, that day. As you walk to the dining area, again you are pleasantly surprised by what you see- a simple and elegant dining room. The walls are a welcoming yellow, with white wanscoting and classic molding. Beautiful music is playing, reminiscent of an upscale supper club. The back wall is glass, and has a view right into the heart of this dining experience- you can watch the bakers work their magic on the goods you can purchase, store front. Overall, just a genius set up.I ordered the eggs Benedict, my eldest daughter had the chilaquiles; middle child had the Nutella and banana waffles. All supremely palatable.Do not skip this place, if you are in town. You will be sorry.
The food is excellent one of our favorite breakfast places. With the ability to watch bakers make rolls its a huge plus!
Usually EVERYTHING from Chocolate Maven is delicious however this time was completely different. I ordered a strawberry chantilly gluten free cake from Chocolate Maven for my mothers birthday and was actually really disappointed. My mom loves the gluten free cupcakes from here so we thought the cakes would be just as good but we were wrong. The cupcakes are light fluffy and oh so yummy and the cake was heavy and dense and lacked any flavor. We wont be ordering a cake from here again. $37 is alot to spend on a cake that doesnt taste good. 😔
Stopped by CM about 2ish on Saturday To pick up somecherry Tarts and 2 slices of chocolate buntcake from the cabinet for my girlfriend .The cherry tarts and the chocolate buntcake just seemed to be off they didnt taste right was not impressed probably will not go back .
Open inside and still awesome!!!Another great breakfast with Jacqueline as our server. Everything was delicious and the service impeccable. So glad to be able to eat here again and watch the skill of the pastry shop do their thing. It’s a most do and see in Santa Fe.
Yummy food! Love the raspberry buttercream cake! (I hope I got the name correct). Their sandwiches and rosemary chips are really great as well. Anytime we come to Santa fe we always try to make it by for the lemon bars! I hope to try their homemade soups sometime
Amazing got a Boston Creme cake for a birthday 🎂 Everone is nice there and everything is excellent!
Loved the bluecorn pancakes! Service was great!
I am so thankful for this little gem and wish I would have written a review sooner.Way back in March, just before we knew what was about to hit us when the world was blindsided by the corona virus, I was in Santa Fe with my kiddos attempting to salvage what was left of my child’s birthday, having been turned away by other establishments and finding out that places were unexpectedly closed. I found Chocolate Maven and purchased a cake from their case and asked if we could sit in the cafe to eat it and drink hot cocoa. They obliged us and there were only 2 other patrons in the establishment when we were seated. Every single employee, down to the bakers making bread rolls, were ever so sweet and helped to bring a little cheer to my daughter’s birthday. The baker brought out dough for my girls to play with while the cafe employees prepared our cocoa and cake with candles. When the cake was ready, they all came out to sing Happy Birthday to my daughter, and those other patrons also joined in. All the people that were there that day have no idea how thankful this distraught mother was to be able to encounter such sweet and thoughtful kindness. I am forever grateful and have been back since to enjoy a lovely and delicious brunch. Their service is above and beyond and their food is a delight. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful part of the community.
Not Just Amazing Cakes but Amazing Customer Service!Great experience. I’ve been to this place multiple times in the past, but I’m only now posting a review, after making an online order. I did get what I wanted, and I also got them in perfect condition, I really love this place!
We were out of towners looking for a quaint local brunch spot. THIS IS THE SPOT!! The food was excellent and it had a great atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and it was family/small kid friendly. They seated us next to the window so our kids could watch all the behind the scenes baking occurring.Would definitely recommend 10/10
I bought a dozen cupcakes for my birthday. They looked beautiful but intimidating. I was a bit scared to try one because it looked deadly. The second I took a bite pure bliss overwhelmed me. So so yummy. It was clear they were amazing quality. Their sophistication was much appreciated in the end. I havent had much else from Chocolate Maven but this was a great experience.
This used to be my favorite brunch spot in SF, but as the years progress quality has slipped drastically. What used to be top notch eggs florentine turned into cold lumpy hollandaise served with an overdone egg. It seems the kitchen staff find it hard to cook eggs as on the last few visits the eggs on everyones plates were lackluster and marred. After a handful of hopeful visits dashed, we do not frequent CM any longer. Dont expect much help from the staff either, they would rather stand around and chat than refill your dwindling cup of coffee. Still, the cakes and pastries are good (though they too have suffered in recent years). A solid meh, at best, wouldnt return.Edit: returned 12th of March 2017 at the behest of Santa fe friends. Server brought friend one a dirty cup of coffee (had lipstick stains), we asked him to take it away. Friend two generously offered up his cuppa and waited for the replacement. THE SERVER BROUGHT BACK THE SAME COFFEE CUP WITH THE SAME LIPSTICK STAIN!! If that wasnt bad enough, the food was awful. Hollandaise was flavorless, each of my eggs overcooked (really. The kitchen doesnt understand poached soft), food wasnt seasoned and they served us WHOLE potatoes next to cut bits. If that doesnt show the kitchen doesnt give a damn and the servers actions show he didnt give one I cant think of any reason to return. Even if I had any friends left who wanted to go back
I stop here every so often when I’m in town for work. Picked up a slice of coffee cake for the drive home yesterday and it was unbelievably good! My favorite place for baked goods in Santa Fe, for sure!
Not enough words to praise this place. Breakfast is amazing. Husband had chilequiles and I had the French toast. I’m a little sad that I’ll never have French toast that good again! You can watch them creating pastries and other baked goods while you’re dining. All of the pastries, cakes, and cupcakes for sale looked delectable. We are definitely coming back here before we leave and when we visit again!
Pretty disappointed. The food was served cold, and certainly wasn’t worth the price that was charged, though it wasn’t bad - just not worth $50 for two people. The window from the dining area to the area where they are making the food and pastries was pretty cool, but that was really the only decent point of the visit.
The California chicken crepes were aaaaaamazing.Croissants are huge.Nice staff. The bacon is NOT worth paying the extra if it doesnt come with your meal. Its thin.
Chocolate Maven is an exceptional food establishment that makes the best cakes. A hidden gem I enjoy their almond croissants.
Just visited Chocolate Maven and we werent aware that tge restaurant closed at 2pm, we had walked in at 1:58 pm. We would have completely understood if they told us that the Kitchen was closed, But they sat us and let us order lunch. Food was delicious and my kids enjoyed watching them make the goodies in the bakery.
Had the Chilaquiles and the Green Chili Cheese Smashers, and they were WONDERFUL! LOVE the food there! Great service from many smiling faces, too. Well be back!
Friendly staff great food
The people at the register in charge of the bakery sales are totally crazy every time I go in there to buy something I always get overcharged I look at the prices and I look at the receipt and Ive been overcharged for the items and this is not one time only or the first time is being like that since before the pandemic I just went back today and I got overcharged for bread it looks like they dont like Latino customers obvious Latinos but they love to have workforce Latinos oh I forgot to mention that the service at the front desk entrance is awful the people are very negative energy you can feel the bad energy walking into the place
First time in this place... Was ok. Just got a small single serve cake for my son bthday
Absolutely the best. The customer service tops the food! And the food is awesome. Lila is a force of nature...a lovely force of nature!
This place is hands down the best bakery in America! Their pastries are perfection and their staff are so lovely and kind!
Randy is the best employee they have! He knows how to deal with customers and the messy stuff that can happen. Good job!
Just bought CMaven turkey sandwich on delicious white bread from Natural Grocers, sssooooo perfect, moist and with Real Turkey and real cheese. Thank you. During covid, I needed a Thanksgiving lift up.Debra Belz
They really lean into the chocolate but they do it extremely welli would argue this is a must stop place for a meal (breakfast i think) or some pastries or baked goods if you are in santa fe.
I was in New Mexico to visit my son and his fiancée. I told my family all I wanted for my birthday was a moist cake. They bought the carrot cake from Chocolate Maven, and it was the best carrot cake I have ever eaten. My only complaint was they didn’t get the biggest one they sold. I would love to try some of their other pastries and meal dishes.
It was closed when I got there to pick up some pies and the lady was super nice. She brought it outside to me.
Customer service over the phone is excellent. I called to ask if they had any apple pies and was asked if I would like one set aside for me (was not even aware that was an option). I have not been to dine in for many years, but I will likely come back to do that soon based on my experience today
The name of this lovely bakery is a misnomer - they are SO much more than a chocolate shop. They are a fine bakery / casual restaurant with a well earned HUGE following. I didnt notice the first visit (too focused on the AMAZING bakery items and gracious customer service) - but in the sit down restaurant side - they have an open concept kitchen where you can watch the bakers create their masterpieces (and whisper admiring/appreciative I love yous through the window). The cinnamon buns are NOT to be missed!! Treats are half price at the end of the day. Go NOW!
I just had the most amazing pastry of my life! Poppy seed pinwheels!!! Food was full of flavor and fresh. Vanessa was an incredible server. Will be suggesting this place to any person who asks.
Everything is amazing - Im so sad I can not visit this year (COVID-19). But they ship! Siyou next year!
My husband and I went for breakfast it was busy. Came in right after two couples that sat next to us they got their food pretty quick. We waited about 20 minutes for ours . Waitress was very attentive to the other couple that were sitting next to us. Service was poor for us!
OMG THIS PLACE WAS SO FRIGGIN GOOD! Me and my husband stopped here for breakfast on our morning in Santa Fe and omg Im glad we did. The peach compote challah french toast was to die for 😍Highly recommended!!
Delicious food and wonderful service from beginning to end. We loved it and will be back. Loved that there were organic eggs, watching the bakers at work and the beet salad was the best ever had.
Rude service and mediocre food. I came here multiple times and was consistently talked down to by staff maybe because I’m young, but I’ve worked in food for 4 years now. I was told my an employee to “make sure I tip,” shortly after they greeted me. If you look younger than 25, get ready to be talked to like you don’t know anything.
When we went for our cake testing it started out nice, but it definitely wasn’t as classy as we anticipated. Our wedding cake was wrong as well as half of the cupcakes, but thankfully it still tasted good.
Delicious food, large variety of options. Everything has been good. Delightful atmosphere inside. The fabulous variety of pastries are a must not miss experience. Highly recommend. Parking lot is tight and atrocious at lunch time. Still worth it. $$
Good restaurant. We’ve been several times and usually enjoy what I order. I do NOT recommend the smoked salmon breakfast sandwich. It was messy and they don’t give you a lot of salmon. Also, service is nice but a little unorganized. Good (not great) local restaurant.
Food was ok service was awful. We had to ask to even place our order after waiting 15 minutes. The waitress never came to take our order another employee took over. We had to ask for refills on the drinks. On top of the front of house bad service the bakers were on their phones and then touching the pastries. We had to go up front to even ask to pay.We only gave a 2 stars because the food was not horrible. We would not recommend.
Delicious sandwiches and baked goods. Horrible customer service. I visited a little after 3pm for a sandwich and the lady that helped me was very rude and seemed like she just did not want to be there. I had heard about the delicious pies and tried starting a conversation with her about them and she was not interested in telling me anything about them. Myself and another lady were the only ones in the place. I later heard from an acquaintance that they put some items on sale for 50% off every day after 3pm, which I should have been informed of; especially since I told her it was my first time in.
The intention and effort put forth by the owners is Awesome! Each idea, recipe, forethought and good energy is experienced in their products. SO happy to vote for them to be Number 1, yay! However, they are counting on their staff to be equally conscientious. I drove there this morning (10:30) with a little cooler in anticipation of buying some cupcakes (a whole cake isnt always appropriate), only 1 carrot cupcake and no ganache.I am not judging but I saw a Mgr... cant these items be stocked for Sat. morning? Probably the busiest bakery-time of the week, Im guessing. This is the reason for only 4 stars. I purchased other delicious items (German chocolate!), but it does translate into revenue. I cant imagine the losses they have already incurred. These are times to truly help one another, that can be our prayer in action. Thank you, Chocolate Maven, best chocolate icing in town, great carrot cake, too, on and on, pls dont stop!Thank you for caring, my concern is only re: your success. Theres plenty to buy, other than our favorites.Respectfully,MCH, former host for Clint EastwoodPBH, former Head Pro/GM fro Pebble Beach
Amazing breakfast! Especially like their red and green sauces on my huevos rancheros. I didnt try any of their baked good or treats but they look amazing. I like that you can watch their bakery operations through the viewing window while eating a meal. I will definitely come back here on my next visit to Santa Fe.
This place offers an unusual experience, great food in a cafe overlooking the bakery. Theyre making pastries while you watch from a nice dining room. Theres a large store with beautiful pastries, cakes, pies, etc. Our chilaquiles were very good. They offer 4 kinds of hot chocolate. Our chocolate drinker thought it was too rich...too bad!
I wanted to love this place. The bakery downstairs is lovely on every level. However, service upstairs was poor. We were thinking of leaving but I was really looking forward to trying their crab benedict. Had to actually ask for a server to come to our table. My husband and I did enjoy our food once it arrived but felt rushed by waitstaff. There are far too many other great restaurants in Santa Fe to visit again or recommend Chocolate Maven to others. Maybe pop into the bakery but I do not recommend dining here.
If you eat here, be ready for a special treat and treatmemt. Excellent customer service, awesome food. Dont forget to try a pastry; which one? Youre just going have to try everything, because it is all delicious.
I love this place I have been coming to the Maven daily for my coffee.. but recently there has been a woman in Pink framed glasses working the front counter and I dont mean to be rude be she is absolutely worthless. I usually see the Maven working like a well oiled machine but every time I go in and shes there. I am personally going behind the counter to get regular coffee and bring it to the coffee area because it is not there or there is no cream and the what not. The Wait staff is exceptional and is always taking care of the front area as well as there tables. Just a long time customer and taking notice. Today she was cleaning out her wallet at the cash register or something like that. I have heard her say when the wait staff say there is no coffee or something needs to be restocked remind her and all she comes back with is its so busy. And I look around and no one is there. By bosses go in for Mochas and now they stopped going there because they have expressed if they see her there they dont order anything they just leave. because of the crappy job she is doing making them. I hate leaving such a negative review but Like I said she is a wrench in your gears. And the Wait staff is incredible practically doing her job for her.
We got my birthday cake from here and it was simply delicious. My wife is a cake snob and she always makes my birthday cake from scratch. Because we were traveling, we had to entrust an outsider to do the job and Chocolate Maven rose to the challenge! We ordered the German chocolate cake. It was the best German chocolate cake Ive ever eaten. It was not too sweet, very hearty and very fresh. The chocolate/coconut combination was to die for.The only reason Im not giving it 5 stars is because the service we received was rude, but hey you cant have it all :-)
Fabulous breakfast menu, especially the blue corn blueberry/piñon pancakes (gluten free!). The lunch menu looks just as delectable. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many gluten free options in the bakery, including a loaf of bread. You can get burritos and quiches to go, as well as finding a variety of croissants, danishes, cookies, cupcakes, pies, etc.
I love this place! Best meal I had in Santa Fe. Service was great too. I have dietary restrictions so it was great to have many food options. Food was flavored perfectly. Thank you!
Excellent cakes! Great quality, great presentation and wonderful staff.
Just had the green chile croissant-delicious!
Off the beaten path treasure! Delicious baked goods and food, delightful old-fashioned afternoon tea, fantastic service. Do yourself a favor and go!
My family got ordered me a cake for my birthday expecting it to be made fresh, but the cake tasted like its been sitting in the case for a while, both cake and icing were so hard and had a stale taste.
Very greasy food. Poor customer service. Coffee and desserts are good.
Finally, Chocolate Maven is open for dinner! The restaurant features the ONLY 5-Star 4-Diamond chef in Santa Fe, and is EASILY the best dinner in the city. The food not only tasted unbelievable, but it looked gorgeous, and the portions were huge. Absolutely no exaggeration, the food costs about one-third of what it should cost. Our server was excellent, and the manager was also extremely helpful and courteous. Forget about The Old House, Geronimo, Pasquals, The Compound, Santa Cafe. This is by far the best restaurant experience Ive had in Santa Fe, and one of the best Ive ever had in the world.
The cake that was made for me did not even resemble the design I had sent to them. I had also spoken to someone one-on-one on the phone 3 times. The response to my dismay at the cake was that it was an amazing cake and should have cost 4 times more than what I was paying for it. I consoled myself with the knowledge that all the reviews said their cakes were delicious NOT! The entire exterior was fondant (bleh), and the frosting inside had no flavor. This was for an important birthday and left me in tears.
Normally love this place, wouldve probably given it 5-stars if my wife and I didnt drive up to it recently on a Saturday morning at 730am to find out they were closed. YOU ADVERTISE YOURSELF AS A BAKERY!!! THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE!!! The LATEST you should open EVERY SINGLE MORNING is 7am! You should honestly be ashamed of yourselves to have the audacity to call yourselves a bakery and not be open before the sun comes up...but other than that, great food and great service :-)
The bread, pies, and pastries are awesome. A little hard to find location but worth the trip.
What a delightful bakery and restaurant! The high tea was beautifully presented and it was a special treat to be able to watch the master bakers creating quality pastry through a viewing window. We will be back!
Excellent food and coffee. Great atmosphere, and bakery. I cant figure out why this doesnt have a better rating?
Very good
Very high quality pastries, breads and cookies. A little spendy, however. The caramelized pear and goat cheese tea sandwich was out of this world.
Brunch is AMAZING. I take everyone who visits me here. They also have a lot of vegetarianism options including fake meats to substitute. This is definitely my favorite place to breakfast. It is a tat pricier, but for a very good reason.
The best cakes and buttercream icing. Ive never had a bag dessert from here. They even have personal size cakes for the sugar addicts like me!
I always made a special trip to buy the cherry pie because it was just like homemade with lots of cherries and not too much sugar and pectin based filler like grocery store baked. I was disappointed with the one I bought today which was the same as Smiths bakery filling. I might as well buy them there at 1/3 the price.
