Delicious bean-to-bar single-origin chocolate. The folks working here are also clearly passionate about and knowledgeable about chocolate, and happy to tell you about it. We really enjoyed the drinking chocolate and truffles. The brownies are also great if you like really rich, slightly gooey versions. Similar to--and perhaps better than--Dandelion Chocolate in San Francisco.

Came across this awesome shop as we were walking around DT Santa Cruz. The staff member helping us was super friendly and knowledgeable about the chocolates. He offered us samples and explained how of them varied. There are many options available and all but the milk chocolate are vegan. This place definitely hits the spot when you’re craving high quality chocolates. I’ll be returning to try the chocolate flight.

Cozy place with top notch chocolate drinks. Friendly service. Try the Coconut-cacao ice tea, its perfectly refreshing. We ordered one to drink on site but after trying it, had to order another one to go. Also tried the Himalayan pink salt hot chocolate. Definitely taste the salt.

Really charming spot downtown for chocolate lovers. I went there for dessert with a friend after a moms night out and Mutari didn’t disappoint.The place itself has a great atmosphere. And smells delicious too. Service is good and friendly. They will teach you the most amazing details about cacao.We had a few truffles and I also tried the Coconut-Cacao iced tea. Everything was delicious.

Always super friendly. Knowledgeable about their chocolate products as always.Today we had the Mutari hot mocha, Brownie and will be trying their 100% Ecuadorian dark chocolate 🍫. First time I have ever seen a 100 % chocolate anything. Not bitter at all like other unsweetened chocolate can be. Also picked up the salted brown butter 45% bar for those decadent sugary chocolate craving nights. Yummy as always 😋.

Made it!! Got all I wished for! Brownie, cookie to go, mocha choco drink ...all for tomorrow tho i must nibble fresh! & a soft serve choco-vanilla twist cone! Soo Big, it started flopping over! I said a cup is fine & the lady serving said she wasnt satisfied... Added a covering of chips & a swirl of choco sauce! Looked like it was meant to be decorated😻 Then gifted her fav truffle, Aptos ? Sprinkled with bee pollen... Told her its my bday & yesterday was my bros :) she offered a 2nd spoon :D nope, just me!... ....I didnt make it to aptos, started Way Late. Inspired by seeing a persons iced cacao drink he had purchased that afternoon, I drove to front street. Though I got there at 5:20 and the sign says open till 6, the place was closed:( Bummer...

Whoever I spoke with on the phone today went above and beyond the call of duty. I received an e-gift card a few months back for my birthday. I went to the website and picked out some goodies and noticed that under the delivery section there was no way to input the gift card code. I called Mutari chocolate and a lovely woman answered and stayed on the phone with me for 10 minutes while helping to troubleshoot the issue. Eventually, we came up with a good solution and I was able to input my gift card. This is what incredible customer service looks like. I hope to continue to support you and this amazing business.

Incredibly happy we peeked in. The owner is a gracious hostess and the space was quite cozy and inviting after walking around this chilly day. We tried a couple of sipping chocolates and a chocolate chip cookie. Fantastic. I recommend getting one of their homemade marshmallows to top off your hot drink. Delightful!

The best chocolate from beyond fair trade sourcing, bean to bar, single origin bars and delicious truffles, decadent baked goods. They are the real deal, and the quality of what they produce is the most delicious testament to their skill and passion. There are so many chocolate makers out there in the world, but its very, very rare to find folks that actually go out and source their cacao from Madagascar and the Phillipines and Jamaica and Tanzania themselves, then import, roast, crack winnow and do all the magic themselves on vintage equipment right in Santa Cruz. And theyve got a slew of Good Food Awards to show for it, proudly displayed on their Tom Selleck Woodburl clock. Go! Order online!

Vegan soft serve...omg!!!!

If you are expecting to need a golden ticket to sample this gift from Quetzalcoatl, an Aztec god, or some special invitation from a creepy old New Yorker, guess again. This new place just popped up a few months ago and on this day I took the 8 steps in from the busy sidewalk to the crafty recycled wood counter. On my own, I’m a big boy.I had the straight up hot chocolate. Didn’t expect what I found. Like tasting a good Scotch for the first time, at first bitter and Smokey but then it begins to smooth and becomes very nice. It’s made with a 55% Cacao and cocoanut milk. It’s worth it.My hot coco was pared with a classy artesian marshmallow, yes, paired. Just how big red wine goes with red pasta or steak the folks at Mutari have made this work too.They have a factory and shop near by with more creative options than the pop up on Pacific Ave.Not necessarily a kids dessert place, more of a cool spot for people with a refined palate or the adventurous in food likes.

I ordered a box of truffles online for a special occasion, while Sheltering in Place. The payment and pick up were super easy. The chocolate was phenomenal. The flavors!!! Try CandyCap Mushroom! It felt so good to celebrate, enjoy these amazing chocolates and support these guys to stay open.

Best single origin dark chocolate! The staff is super friendly, will give you tasters of the bars, and walk you through the origins and notes. Their chocolate chip cookie is also divine!

Interesting place. Its like an old fashioned soda fountain crossed with a coffee shop, all with a chocolate theme. I enjoyed the cold drink I had (coconut, cant remember what the name was). An adult take on chocolate for sure, I dont think most kids would enjoy what they have to offer.

This place is FANTASTIC! I went here with some friends and had an amazing time and I would definitely go on a date here. The chocolate they have is unlike anything Ive ever had before in an amazing way! We got to talk to Stephen who was working there and we ended up having an amazing conversation and learning how they check to see if the chocolate is ready. He then gave us tastes of the chocolate that wasnt ready yet! It was so cool tasting the finished chocolate vs the chocolate that still had a couple of days to go.I would consider this a place to go on a mini adventure, kind of like wine or beer tasting but with chocolate!!

I bought their hot chocolate mix and its quite good. However, I wasnt too impressed with their in. House brownie or chocolates. They are a bit too rich for my taste. The brownie in particular was a little too dense and not quite the texture I like for brownies. However they have a nice space and friendly staff.

Unbelievable rich dark chocolate made with ALL the parts of the bean, not just the cacao, and basically nothing else. It has intense flavor notes and not much sweetness, which took me a while to get used to (not recommended if you mostly prefer milk chocolate unless you’re looking to expand your horizons). The best part is getting a tasting flight of liquid chocolate and sharing it with my wife, then feeling euphoric and full of love afterward.

You absolutely positively must have the hot chocolate. Himalayan sea salt or spicy Mexican chocolate are our favs. The chocolate here is outstanding too of course.

The sipping chocolate and the brownie were both super good, but the best part was that the guy who took our order looked like a hipster Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder version, not Johnny Depp), which really made for an unforgettable experience.

Im a chocolate fan. Ive experienced the chocolate Mutari puts out three times now over the last six months. The first introduction happened at the Santa Cruz Lighthouse where they had a booth at a food fair. Awesome liquid chocolate (Himalayan Pink Salt)!Once I heard that they opened a store on Front Street I was there! Unfortunately at this writing, (8/2017) theyre only open on weekends.Their facility is charming, service friendly, chocolate is EXCELLENT!

Such a jewel. The hot chocolate was so much thicker and richer, without the cloyng sweetness of cheap chocolate. It is going to be my place for relaxing with a warm mug of chocolate. Oh yes, the couches are comfy, with a great view for people watching.

We had an awesome experience here, and we have been to lots of chocolate shops. The people were very friendly, and clearly knew their chocolate. The chocolate was the freshest possible, and we would recommend this place to everyone! Go here - dont let the somewhat confusing store sign keep you away. It is a true gem, and it is worth stopping in Santa Cruz just for this spot.

What a great place! I was so excited to visit and learn that almost everything is dairy free. I had the frozen drinking chocolate (without whip cream) and it was like drinking a chocolate milkshake with crunchy nibs on top. Ridiculously good! I super recommend!

Tasty craft-made chocolate bars, poor in-shop service. The first time there we had a delightful chat with the owner, who let us taste several chocolates before selling us some. Yesterday I brought my daughter in for a hot chocolate and was ignored and then treated quite rudely by the woman working there. I will not give them a third try; the chocolate was not good enough to make up for the rude service.
