We got a green tea, the vegetable quiche, a dirty chai latte and a breakfast sandwich. The food was good. The quiche was dead on, and the breakfast sandwich was pretty good as well. I had higher hopes for the brioche my sandwich was made with, but maybe it just wasnt their best bake. The drinks were enjoyable though. My biggest complaint here is value. With tip, our breakfast was $50, and honestly it just wasnt worth that. The place is pretty cute though, and the people are friendly. I personally wouldnt make the return trip for breakfast anyway, but I can understand why someone would.
We specifically sought out a gluten-free bakery for our mid morning breakfast while in Santa Barbara. This portion of State Street is closed to cars, so the walk from block to block was tranquil and unrushed. We decided to share our breakfast between the two of us and selected one sweet dish (French toast with fruit) and one savory (eggs Benedict). A great idea! The food came quickly, along with a beautiful latté that was artfully presented. We sat outside and were in heaven as we relished every bite. Definitely worth seeking this place out.
Will not be coming back from lunch. The turkey club sandwich was mediocre at best: the artisan bread did not go well with the sandwich, the avocado was already browning and overall, the sandwich did not taste good. The only thing that tasted okay was the bacon. However, I did also order a slice of their cheesecake and that was exceptional. Perhaps they should stick to only serving desserts.
We only tried their grain bowl and it was very tasty and filling! 🥣 (we added eggs which I think made the dish more interesting; the add-on is 5 dollars for 2 eggs though…a bit insane even if they’re organic when the bowl itself is already 16 dollars!)I would recommend the place if you’re looking for something healthy and flavorful. They have plenty of seating outside and the fact that the street is closed to traffic makes it even more enjoyable 🪑☀️🍽
Every time we stop in Santa Barbara, we always go to Lilac Patisserie. Their coffees are exquisite ☕ Today we had a delicious pumpkin spice latte that was a perfect accompaniment to the fall weather! Their sandwiches are incredibly tasty and I always order their soups and have never been disappointed. I highly recommend this little eaterie and leave it to you to decide which pastry is the best!
Their pastries and coffees are literally delicious and one-of-a-kind. The location is also incredibly open and pleasant, as it is really within the mall. You get a very homey feeling when you have your coffee here. Furthermore, all of the personnel are really friendly and knowledgeable about the coffee you select for food pairing. Strongly advised!
If youre looking for gluten free, and vegan options. Your search is finally over. They have a wide range of desserts. I tried the red velvet, and carrot cake cupcakes. I definetly, wasnt disappointed! They had a burst of flavor. Sort of addicting. Lastly, they have the best customer service too.
Lilac Patisserie has some of the best baked goods in town--period. After a family member became gluten-free, I thought, Oh, great. Well never have good cake again. At Lilac, the cake and scones are delicious, to the point where I prefer them to baked good with gluten at other bakeries!
Ordered the berry cake and received a whipped cream bomb with little actual cake inside. All it tasted like was whipped cream. Threw half of it in the trash. It was 2/3 Whip.Next time Ill look for a gluten free bakery that offers whip cream on the side. Because without the whip cream their cake had and was nothing at all worthwhile.Tried the strawberry rhubarb pie, $8 for a tiny tiny piece.Tried the waffles, they were soft and spongy.Tried the muffins, they were good but...Tiny. Teeny. Not sure what Lilac offers, really, except disappointment and high prices. They have a good concept but to leave hungry, for the price, it isnt worth it.
Absolutely delicious! I grabbed a Waldorf salad sandwich and a bunch of desserts to bring back to LA with me. The sandwich bread and chix salad was outstanding, as was the florentine and almond cookie I had in the car. Couldnt wait til I got home. Lots to choose from for those, like me, who are gluten sensitive or celiac.
This is a cute place to come have pasties or brunch. I came here for pastries. Not really sure what I wanted, I settled for a slice of cheesecake and floorless chocolate cake. I took I together for dessert later tonight. Both were delicious. They have a small section of other goods and a few vegan cupcakes.Service is super slow here. You can also order special occasion cakes here. They had a beautiful beauty and the beast themed cake on display.
Absolutely delicious!!! We went for breakfast and ordered the avocado toast and the scrambled eggs with bacon. Both entrees were artfully prepared and had a delightful depth of flavor I want anticipating. The gluten free toast was a real treat as well. I would be remiss if I didnt mention the service, which was friendly and attentive.
The belgian waffles were a serious game changer. I would definitely get them again!
Cute place, staff is nice, food is amazing, love how everything is gluten free. Also its nice that the manager checks in with you
Pathetic. Bourgeois staff with nothing to do who couldn’t bother to offer a mask to someone who drove in through the night from afar exhausted, parked their vehicle far awaY with a double fractured spine to pick up breakfast items. Frankly disgusting. And no It wasn’t done on purpose. The attitude from the blonde was outrageous. Good luck navigating a business that’s customer driven with such lack of compassion. The huge shop was empty with two men at a table in a far away corner and one other lady. And staff standing around.
Lilac Patisserie is the BEST patisserie west of Manhattan. Entering a cosmopolitan, luxurious facility with gleaming cases of gorgeous pastries, reviewing the daily specials on an up-to-date electronic screen, I knew I was in for a treat. The food is superlative. One of the few restaurants which tosses its salads, not just dabbling dressing on top. Everything is home made with special touches, such as using ganache in the hot chocolate. Their cakes and pastries are wonderful, not markedly gluten free (which they are). A step above regular bakeries; a real treat.
Always great. Healthy, flavorful, highest quality. Great staff!!! Andrew and his team are great ). Gotta go try this place... And itll be on your faves list
Amazing ! I would drive from LA just for the quiche and the cheesecake. The staff are so friendly, everything comes out fast and so so good. You honestly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.We went for a long weekend and ended up eating there every day and still took some stuff home!
Loved this place. I’ve been gluten free for about 8 years now and this was the BEST gluten free bread I have ever tasted anywhere. The menu is a bit pricey, but for gluten free food the price was normal, and for the quality so so worth it. Even my non-gluten free friend thought the bread was amazing. Also had their key lime tart which was delicious. Will be coming back here anytime we’re in SB for sure! Apart from the delicious food, the place was really cute, had great music (Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, Parov Stellar while we were there), nice natural light, and attentive staff. There was also a clear window so you could see one of the cake decorators working, and she was amazing! Wish we were hungry enough to try a piece of cake!
The restaurant was clean and tables were spaced out for inside dining. The soup od the day and sandwich combo was perfect. Soup was hot and delicious and sandwich was fresh and crisp. Service was quick and attentive too!I love coming here!
Everything is gluten free. I highly recommend coffee cake, waffles, eggs, coffee and tea.
Man - I’m not even vegan and I love this place. Baked goods are amazing. Great coffee and breakfast.
This little French style bakery has a nice atmosphere inside and out! It’s filled with all kinds of pastries, cakes, muffins, cookies and I would have loved to try everything there but it wasn’t the day for that! It’s not easy finding an exclusive gluten free bakery at least where I am from, most people don’t even know what gluten free means!! We had a nice experience on the back patio with drip coffee and tea my daughter had the key lime tart and loved it! I had a classic coffee cake that I wish was bigger! The wait staff was helpful and fast! I will definitely be back on my next visit to Santa Barbara!! If you are gluten free definitely stop by but be ready to pay a lot more than a regular bakery with portion sizes varied!! Well worth it in my opinion for the experience and not having to fuss about what I can eat! They also sell wedding cakes and bread that all looked amazing! Also available for sale is their own gluten free flour blend which I thought was amazing! Swing by during your stroll through Santa Barbara warm up with some drip coffee and something sweet I don’t think you will be disappointed!
Great food and service. The french toast was fantastic, almost like a bread pudding flavor. As a Celiac, this place made me so happy.
BEST GLUTEN FREE RESTAURANT EVER!!! Visiting with a celiac friend of mine. He RAVED! I was very impressed. Great job Lilac owners.
We were stuffed from lunch so we didnt get a pastry but the macchiato I had and my daughters steamer were wonderful. Strangely, however, the tap water had an off flavor. Maybe their filter needs to be replaced?
Loooove Lilac! I love their club sandwich best, especially on their olive bread! Whenever my daughter is in town, thats the place she wants to eat too, as she is highly allergic to gluten. Here, she can order whatever she wants! We also love the cakes and order birthday cakes at least twice a year. Incredibly rich and delicious!
Amazing cakes! The banana foster is too die for!
Celiac Safe Restraint, There are no Glutens in this Restaurant. And the foods and deserts are all Yummy. My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for about 5 years now. And there is NOT any desert or food that they make that I do not like. It is all Yummy. I wish there were more restaurants like the Lilac Patisserie that catered to those of us of the Celiac community that cannot eat Glutens for health reasons and it has nothing to do with ones weight. It has to do with being very sick for days after I have consumed a product with Gluten in it. So, I am grateful for the Lilac Patisserie that goes out of its way to make all its food Celiac Safe from Glutens. The other thing I really appreciate about this restaurants foods is that the quality and level of these foods are made by a Chief who also has Celiac herself. So, she know whats shes doing and the taste and quality is up there with the best of restaurants. You dont feel like you are missing out on anything. My husband and I were just at Lilac yesterday, celebrating our 41st Wedding Anniversary. We had their wonderful Vegetable Quiche and and Omelet that we split and then we had couple of their wonderful deserts that we shared. The Blueberry Lemon Tart and Vanillia Chocolate Salted Carmel Cake, which we split and shared with each other. Absolutely Yummy!!!!!. A perfect way to celebrate our 41st Wedding Anniversary. So, thank you Lilac Patisserie for making our 41st Wedding Anniversary perfect!!!!!! and Safe to eat. Thank you. . . Thank you. . . Thank you. . .Its so wonderful to eat out and for it to be safe and Yummy!!!!!!!!. My taste buds are thank you . . . .
I ordered a cake from this establishment for my birthday last week and I was beyond disappointed. The cake was not moist and broke apart as if it were old. None of my guests enjoyed it and even my kids that love cake, did not like it. I sadly tossed the cake the same night. I just wanted to share my awful experience with you all. Perhaps others had or will have better luck than I did, but I will no longer order any cakes from this business.
It tastes good but seems a bit overpriced
Absolutely delicious 🤤. Wish I couldve given them more stars.
Excellent food. Great barista art and expresso drinks. Bread and pastries are awesome!. Great service.
Hands-down the best place to go if you have a sever gluten free allergies. The food here is absolutely amazing I have never had a better grill cheese and the pastries are to die for. I recommend getting there early so you have the best selection it’s worth the trip to Santa Barbara just to eat at this place.
I love Lilac, and how they cater to a strictly gluten-free clientele. It’s such a treat to be in a traditional French pâtisserie and not experience the pain of missing out on the pastries. The food is delicious, the cakes are fabulous, and the ambience is just delightful! However, the service is slow and a bit unorganized; could definitely be improved on.
Delicious coffee and tea, wonderful pastries and a delicious breakfast. The sophisticated decor and feel of the seating area matches the quality and taste of the food and beverages perfectly and, when combined with the helpful and friendly employees, creates an amazing place to stop for bruch or just stop by for a pastry and coffee.I have not been able to try their cakes yet, but Ive heard only good things and the decorators clearly know what theyre doing.
Best GF sandwich Ive ever had!
Lilacs one of the few restaurants in town on our list of gluten-free facilities and is by far our favorite (and not because its the safest.)I have yet to bring a friend here who has not raved about the food. I love being able to eat here knowing its a solely gluten-free facility and the food itself is amazing. Highly recommend the Chicken Waldorf salad sandwich and quiche lorraine on weekdays, On weekends youve got to get the Belgian waffles!
Always fantastic! They create amazing gluten free sandwiches, cakes, and treats. We last visited two years ago and couldnt wait to return.
No way to tell this is gluten free. One of the best bakeries weve been to, anywhere.
Went here today with my husband. We were disappointed in the lack of selection even with covid. The blueberry tart was pretty good but, I have had better in my city. The place is cute just very disappointed.
My best friend lives in Santa Barbara and is almost 9 months pregnant; all of her family is in MS and her friends are spread all over the county. Because of COVID her baby shower had to be a zoom shower. We still wanted her to feel special and have goodies and treats. Rachel was so accommodating and understanding during the ordering process. She went above and beyond to provide excellent customer service. Plus, the food was as delicious as it looked!!! Wonderful bakery!
Everything here is so so delicious- you could never tell anything is gluten free! The staff is also always so sweet and helpful
Delicious all GF cafe with amazing quiche and breads, amazing local place to buy gluten free goods. The wait can be a bit long and things can run out so come early or call ahead.
Always a good experience 🤩
Visited this place two times in a row. Love love loved their Belgian waffle, chai latte was fantastic, vegetable omelette was delicious and avacado toast was fancy! I will be visiting again for sure. Vegetarian options and restroom was available. Service provided was 👌
Family and friends surprised me with a vegan carrot cake from here-so fabulous
If you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, you will be thrilled to be able to eat every item on the menu! Breakfast, lunch and dessert. All gluten free and all delcious!
I love that it is a dedicated gluten-free location. amazing for pastries sandwich special occasions weddings the list goes on and on. When you have a challenge with gluten nobody understands but when you see a place like this all your fears go away. If you are a gluten tolerant individual you would completely blow your mind going here
Amazong. Gluten-free shop in the center of gorgeous Santa Barbara. Brownies (my favorite) are really rich, so bring people to share with.
Strange, but the pastry with blueberries was so plain. No lemon taste whatsoever, even the blueberries were tasteless. It’s like I’ve eaten a giant butter cookie instead. I don’t have covid btw, I smell and taste things just fine.I’ll try something else next time...
Lovely selection of gluten free cafe-style dishes and pastries. They have somehow mastered the art of fine texture and flavor in gluten free foods. Wonderful!
The Quiche I had here was cooked to perfection. Nor only that but the cake was also fantastic!!
Gluten free friends, this place is legit. Amazing selection of sinful baked goods. I got coffee cake, lemon meringue, lemon bars and blueberry tart. Wish they hadnt sold out of their breads. Best GF breads especially the rosemary olive loaf.
The staff is incredibly friendly and the cakes look amazing, but sadly the taste was disappointing — especially given the cost. We had the Sea Salt Caramel and Chocolate Decadence cakes and both werent great (e.g. for the price I expected the Chocolate Decadence to be made with actual mouse, not some type of butter (?) cream). I really wanted to like this place, but wouldnt go back.
This was the best gf sandwich and muffin I’ve ever had and made me so happy! Makes me want to open a restaurant like this. I wish this place was located in more cities!
This place is absolutely outstanding. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. Food is like a restaurant in Jacksonville I liked.
Cant praise it enough! The food here is such high quality, the breads are great, the cakes are delicious ❤️ The fact that even sandwiches with simple ingredients taste balanced and scrumptious really makes this place so awesome to go to.
I ordered a variety of sandwiches, coffee/orange juice, salad, muffins, and fruit for a wedding shower and everything was fresh and tasty. You could easily tell Lilac uses quality ingredients and puts significant effort into their food.Antonio was very helpful with taking my order and delivery was simple and easy. Will definitely be back!
Amazing, must visit.
This place is delightful. High ceilings, bistro style seating with stone table tops -- its as authentic a French spot as Ive seen in the US. (Right down to the service times.) Dont expect croissants; do expect expensive cakes.
Fantastic and delicious 😋
An elegant bakery with very friendly staff. Lots of cakes and pastries to choose from. They sell all cakes by slice. I dropped one star because I didnt like the sea salt caramel cake at all. It looked very exciting but was hard, dry and overly sweet. I couldnt eat it which was a bummer after my initial excitement.
I had a delicious dinner here. Quiche, soup and dessert. Everything was delicious. Service us not particularly speedy. Shrug. Food was great.
Pleasant dining outside on State Street. Good food and service.
The veggie quiche was out of this world!
Oh my, Lilac is brilliant. The stuff they make is fabulous. Honestly didnt even realize they were gluten free until after I had devoured my pastry.
I have been to gluten free bakeries all over the west. This is the best of them all by far!
Went to this place on Thursday morning to have breakfast and girl at the counter wasn’t friendly.I was not feeling welcome.Other than that, food was good! (we got avocado sandwich with 2 fried eggs, side of bacon and carrot spice cake with vanilla lattes)To me, carrot spice cake was little too sweet but it was delicious. Can’t believe everything is gluten free!
This is the best gluten-free bakery I have been to in the country. And hands down one of the best all-around bakeries, period. Their muffins, and cookies, and lemon meringue tastes are awesome! Their cakes look delicious. Also stay a while and try their tasty breakfast/lunch menu.
This place deserves 500 stars. They just did our wedding cake and it was amazing. You wouldnt have even known it was gluten free - it was THAT good. Its a very fair price for a wedding cake too, and free delivery! Highly recommend!
Completely gluten-free facility with delicious and beautiful professionally decorated cakes, great organic coffees, full breakfast, full lunch until 4 pm and deserts all day long. The cheesecake is real cheesecake, not like that vegan sugar paste GF cheesecake you find at the supermarket. I highly recommend the hazelnut cheesecake. The vegetable quiche is incredibly delicious, as are the pancakes. The pies, coffee cakes, waffles and French toast are also very good. The olive rosemary bread is the best. The espresso drinks are great. Vegan options are available, if you have a dairy or egg allergy. Bonus: the owners are lovely people.
An amazing celiac safe bakery.
Very disappointing. Poor customer service.Three times I have called to check their breadstock. I am told to come in, as I did today only to hear they had a rush on bread. The third time I have heard this. Figure it out. Bake in anticipation of sales. It seemed to me to be a gimmick to get people in and then sell the expensive very high sugar content cakes. It’s a gluten free sugar fest without bread.
