Short and sweet! I’ve been coming here for over a decade now (god doesn’t that make me feel old) and I plan to come back as long as it stays open. The staff is always super friendly, the food is consistently delicious, and the coffee is always fresh. Great spot for some gumbo or breakfast/lunch in general. Love you guys please stay open forever 💞💞
Generous portions all with great flavor! The chilaquiles and jambalaya both had a good amount of spice and the pancakes were very soft and delicious. My only issue was that I thought the pancakes would be made with wheat germ mixed in but they seem to just be topped with it. Other than that, everything was very good and the staff were very friendly.
Huge portions. Delicious flavors. The lightest beignets your lips have ever touched outside of New Orleans. Like sweet little feather pillows, but instead of feathers sticking to your lips, it’s powdered sugar. Try to avoid inhaling while biting into a beignet as it has been known to cause reflexive coughing and the occasional choking hazard. Water helps.I’m going to go reheat my leftover shrimp and grits now for breakfast now. The leftover gumbo is in the freezer. Hot tip from Mother.
On arrival we were told that it was a 10 minute wait....within the next four minutes we were sitting down and offer to get drinks right away. The waiter came to the table to take the order pretty quickly; and it was no more that ten minutes after, that we were eating. The food tasted great and the portions were big.We will be back soon.
My husband did a staycation to Ventura. We stopped for breakfast here at the Cajun Kitchen Cafe. It was a nice day so we sat outside. The staff was friendly and everything on the menu sounded delish. The cornbread was good.My husband ordered Seafood Gumbo. I ordered Shrimp and Grits w/Andouille Sausage and Eggs.I am Creole, so I know my Gumbo and Shrimp and Grits.Lets start with the Gumbo. Thr roux was a nice color, which I could see from the spillage from thre bowl on the plate. However, they did not soak up the grease from the top of the bowl, so there was that orange color from the grease on top. There was okra, shrimp, catfish and I think trout in the Gumbo. You could barely taste or see the okra, too finely chopped. The taste was a bit bland with a tiny bit of a kick to it. It was very soupy and hardly any rice. My husband did not finish the Gumbo. He took maybe 6 spoons and was done.I am aware everyone makes their Gumbo different, but everyone knows you gotta soak up that oil before you serve. On to the Shrimp and Grits w/Andouille Sausage.BLAND, BLAND, BLAND.The grits werent salted even a little bit. The cheese was not mixed in with grits, its was shredded cheese placed on top, then melted. The oil from the cheese was settled around the rim of my bowl, the sausage are not spicy either. I could not add enough salt. We all know Grits need salt. I was a bit disappointed, but I ate it.I understand there are dietary restrictions for some folk, but if you are eating at a cajun/creole restaurant there should be some sort of flavor to the food. Shoot, put Creole Seasoning on the tables or in the food when cooking.I do recommend this place, just know to bring some seasoning of your own.
Dog friendly patio. The food and service was great.
I love Cajun Kitchen....we were regulars at SB, but now...ventura it is! The staff is super nice and attentive. They are pretty fast with the orders and the food never dissappoints!
Good service waiter was so nice, I had the shrimp étouffée was super good nice and Spicy and portion size was huge 1st time there and won’t be my last
Ordered the green chili burger w steak fries, good food, fries were crispy which often is not the case with steak fries, great service!!
It’s been a minute since I got to come and enjoy the delicious food and warm smiles of everyone here at the Cajun Kitchen, for a long while one of my favorite places to go for these things. I’m happy to say, the smiles and food have only continued to be as amazing as I remember. Head on down and grab some beignets, hot, delectable and ready to be devoured!!
My wife and I’ve come here twice for breakfast and Dang is it good! The first time I had their eggs Benedict. I really enjoyed the way that it was created. The next time I had their chicken fried steak with gravy. You cannot go wrong with either option. The location is convenient to downtown and it’s right on the corner, easy to find. Make sure that you try to the beignets when you’re here! There is a great little back room
Even though they were very busy they still delivered great service and the food was excellent
I was in town for my daughter’s wedding and one of the groom’s sisters recommended this place. I was impressed with the quality and quantity of the food for a reasonable price and the service was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
What a pleasant first experience, using yelp to get me here and sure enough, I split a breakfast plate under Meat & Eggs . Went with the blackened salmon and eggs with hone fries and tortillas as our choice if bread. It was delicious! Perfectly proportioned, was split evenly to 2 plates. Well be back!!
Love the food and the service was excellent. Must try the Beignets!!
Very good food great staff
Had the Huevo Rancheros and beignets - absolutely delish. Saw French toast going by and going back tomorrow. Arguably the best breakfast in town.
Food is awesome! This was our second time here and the everything was super tasty. I remember loving the coffee here but opted for mimosas this time. The wait staff is very nice, attentive and helpful. The hostess could be a little friendlier, I remember being put ofc last time by the same issue. It could be because of how busy the place is but the waiters do a good job of displaying a positive attitude even under pressure. Overall, cant wait to return for some beignets and coffee.
Delicious food. Great service.I will be back again real soon.
Love the chilaquiles and good coffee. Good ambient.
I heard its good will give a review soon . Keep you updated
First time eating here and it was the bomb! Great service and loved the atmosphere, havent been there you gotta check it out!
Hubby’s favorite breakfast place by far! Every location has friendly staff, quick service, and tasty food. We appreciate that they brew locally roasted coffee from Dune Coffee Roasters too! Everything (seriously everything) is good. Today he got the fried chicken eggs Benedict on their homemade biscuits. Needless to say, he loved it. I got the chilaquiles this time, which was really good, although I think I prefer the huevos rancheros. You should eat here.
Who would have thought, great cajun food in Ventura. Yes real New Orleans food on Main street in Ventura. If you like cajun food you have to check out the Cajun Kitchen.
Delicious food, Excellent Service
Great service and amazing food. Cant do any better than that!
Great spot. Highly recommend the tri-tip benedict.
Omgoodness, first time eating here. Absolutely amazing staff, plenty of great food, and fun atmosphere.
Excellent breakfast of hot pepper omelet, hash browns, grits (yes, grits) with outstanding beignet served pandemic alfresco by an attentive and friendly staff. If you are in Downtown Ventura and want a southern styled breakfast or lunch (shrimp po boys...need I say more...) check out Cajun Kitchen.
Good food and good service.
Great food! I ordered the Jambalaya. It had a lot of fantastic flavor. The spice was tasty without being overpowering. The corn bread was perfect. The texture was a perfect balance of moist and spongy, sweet, buttery, and savory. Enjoyed dining outdoors during the Main Street Moves event. The staff was friendly, thoughtful and concientous.
Excellent food, it was kind of busy but the food made the wait 1000% worth it.
First time. Excellent service & food!!
Great food.
Is absolutely one of my favorite places in downtown Ventura my only complaint is that they can be a little busy and they stopped carrying this Cajun sauce that I liked and sometimes it can be a little busy and which is not really their fault but sometimes when you sit at the bar the other people at the bar can be pretty rude and not conative of that Siri are not the only people on earth and that they are in a shared space and it would be nice The wait staff would control some of their unruly customers but other than that no complaints whatsoever about this establishment the food is good the location is nice accessible and the staff is knowledgeable and more than capable to attend to your needs as you have them
THIS PLACE! We come here every Saturday morning before we head to the farmers market. All their food is heavenly, but their eggs benedict is to die for. I get the California Benedict every time and its always perfect. Also gotta get a mimosa while youre there AND their beignets to finish off with dessert!
First time in for breakfast visiting Ventura. We asked a Ventura policeman where to eat and he recommended them. A large variety menu of Cajun themed good. The wife enjoyed her Tri-tip. I was pleased to see they had grits because Im from the South. Being from Texas I always try anyones Chicken Fried Steak. Their portion was small and did not have the proper southern flaky crispiness required. Seemed like the coating was the same they must fry their fish with. So your CFS needs a makeover! On the plus side the gravy was perfect! Great friendly wait staff and comfortable cozy dining setting. I did buy a t-shirt with Gator Boy on it. I recommend trying them out. Ill be back for lunch next time in town.
After a long walk along the coast we made our way to the Cajun Kitchen for breakfast. The menu is huge and it was so hard to make a choice so I had dessert. The beignets with strawberries and bananas, caramel drizzle and tons of whip cream. Heaven! My spouse had the Cajun Scramble. A great place with a nice atmosphere.
Love the food..outside sitting is ok
Best breakfast in downtown Ventura. Friendly, fast, and consistent service. The staff is amazing!
Waiter extremely nice and helped situate my handicapped friend with her electric chair. Thecorned beef hash was made from scratch, juevos ranchers were delicious.
Cajun is my Top 3 breakfast joints in Ventura, but today was a little disappointing. They reintroduced the Chile Verde plate, but it was more like stringy pulled pork than the classic verde of years past. The portions have also shrunk since COVID hit, but that understandable.
First time there. I was looking for a place to have breakfast . I tried their biscuits and gravy with a cup of coffee. The placer is located in Ventura old Main St. Its a very cute clean and quite place to have breakfast. The service is fast and friendly with large portions. The food was excellent, food hot and reasonably priced. I do recommend this cafe and will return soon.
Delicious food and the staff is great. COVID safe!
Louisiana Cajun style breakfast and lunch place. Its Jambalaya-on-the-Bayou good! Hearty portions, amazing flavors overall (except my rice today was uncharacteristically bland). The servers are consistently friendly and speedy; the food comes out steamy hot. Love this place.
Been coming here for a while and it is a great spot, the food is consistently great the staff is always awesome and welcoming with a fun vibe. Definitely a must if you like breakfast they do serve lunch as well but I havent tried their lunch menu yet but if its anything like their breakfast then a thumbs up for sure!
Boyfriend and I are from Out of town and were staying near by so this spot popped up first on Google for breakfast. Stopped by and my bf got a waffle and a side of the potatoes. I got the chicken and waffles. The fried chicken was awful. For me they had no flavor. Tabasco didnt even help, but the waffles were awesome! Topped with fresh fruit not no syrup fruit. That made everything good. The customer service was great. If we ever go back well stop by for some waffles.
Had a lovely breakfast outside, trying to eat more plant based food. The veggie mix mash did the trick.
I have eaten lunch here three times now, and this place has always been excellent. Gumbo and Jambalaya are fantastic.
The Cajun Kitchen has an extinsive menu so everyone in your party has options. I recommend the jambalaya with cornbread.
The food was amazing, not expensive and large portions. I had the Large Fale Gumbo and my wife had the Cajun Chicken Cobb salad. The staff was very friendly and they quick to get us our food. It was a great lunch experience in our favorite beach community.
I got sea food gumbo, and it was not anywhere the taste I had last time! I also did not have scallops, salmon or shrimp as the dish said I would. I did have fish and it had no spice. Dont know why it changed..
A preferred spot for quality cajun food. I love this place. Definitely worth a return trip. The prices are fair for the quality of food.
Definitely worth the wait. Our drink order was quick. The food was very tasty and plenty of it. I was able to bring some home to share. It didnt last long. Excellent every time.
Fine location for delicious Cajun food. You wont be disappointed in the menu and service. The service here is great. Feels similar to a cafe in Chicago I liked.
Many classic dishes with a Cajun twist. Friendly staff. Must try: huevos rancheros, maple beniets, bloody Mary, and the chicken and waffles!
Super good food. The portions are gigantic American size. Share a plate or it is way too much food. The coffee is also pretty damn good. Service is always good too.
I love this restaurant. The Ventura location is even better than the Santa Barbara locations, in my opinion. They after always quick, the portions are huge & food is delicious
Amazing food and great al fresco breakfast!
Very, very good. Highly recommend. Best service I have ever had. The nice server was absolutely amazing!!!! Kind, friendly, and funny.
Let me start by saying I love this place. My favorite for brunch or lunch after church. The menu has delicious Cajun, breakfast, or sandwiches options. Downtown parking is inexpensive and plentiful. My favorite menu item is the California eggs Benedict with a poinsettia to drink. My only complaints would be the service hasnt been the best the last few times. My husband and I used to be servers; we are pretty easy customers but find we are sitting there for a long time waiting on the check, etc. Also the kids menu is lacking healthy options. I dont want this to overshadow that almost every time Ive gone I loved it. The patio is great for sitting if the weather is nice.
Quick and excellent food. A sit down breakfast place. People there are very nice.
Have been going here for years and years. Saturdays and Sundays are busy and usually there is a wait. Definitely worth the wait for sure. Ive tried every breakfast option and have never been disappointed. Miss the Apple Butter and fresh salsa that used to be on table.
I ordered the small cup of gumbo it was good but very spicy. My mom said the cornbread was delicious. I liked my house salad w cilrantro & lime vinaigrette it was just enough with the gumbo for lunch.
My brother and I were visiting VENTURA for the weekend and rode our bikes to this restaurant. Never having eaten here before we thought we would give it a try. We sat at the counter and were welcomed by friendly smiles. The service was very good, the food was delivered quickly, and the taste was great. We weren’t sure about eating here because its name was the Cajun Kitchen Café which made us think is was a lunch place, but when entering the restaurant we found that it was a great breakfast spot lots of people and locals. We will definitely eat here again.
This place is absolutely great! The food was delicious (much better than we expected) and the staff was personable and very friendly. It also has a very relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be going back soon.
I was there solo on Labor Day for the first time. The line was out of the door and once I got inside, the service was slow. The restaurant was full and staff was over-run with taking orders and serving costumers. I seated myself at the bar. It took several minutes just to get a menu/noticed. Then my food came and there was no side of toast or silverware so I had to wait for those as well. I was three-quarters through my meal and my waitress asked if I wanted a drink. The food was delicious and I would go back there again. But if I was the manager, you would at least be spoken to as soon as you sat down. For this reason, the first few minutes of being in the restaurant were slightly awkward. Maybe this can happen when theyre busy... if you dont speak up you get partial service.
This place is great just wish they were open a little later and served dinner I love the off menu jambalaya omelette who would have thought to put avocado and sour cream with egg and jambalaya yum! Oh and my son got the shrimp poboy also delicious
This is our second Cajun Chicken place we have eaten at. Santa Barbara was other. They are both delicious and the service was great. We look forward to our next visit. Recommend anything on the menu.
Upon advice of locals we had a meal at the Cajun Kitchen Cafe. Our meals were good enough to have a repeat visit the following morning! No one on staff appears to be of Cajun or Creole descent. But dont let the Hispanic staff fool you. They do a good job with what they have. The menu gives anyone who has visited the pelican State a feel like they stumbled into Louisiana hard by the Pacific Ocean. Grits, jambalaya, catfish, sweet tea, cornbread, andouille sausage, beignets, gumbo, crawfish, crab cakes..... Breakfast and lunch is served seven days a week. Seating is limited, so there may be a wait as the locals flock here vying for a table with tourists. Service is quick and friendly. Prices are not out of line with similar restaurants. Alcohol is served here, as well.
I am so impressed by the food here. Always top notch with great service too. My friend says the gluten free pancakes are the best shes ever had.
Ive been here 3 times. Its a pretty good family restaurant but the food has been hit or miss. The chile Colorado and the fresh little donuts are really good.
Cajun food, yeah, super yummy. The food was super appetizing. I will be back with my relatives.
GREAT PLACE FOR SOUTHERN FOOD! I HAD THE BLACKENED REDFISH AND SEAFOOD GUMBO. DELICIOUS! JUST LIKE MOM USED TO MAKE! JUST WISH THEY WERE OPEN FOR DINNER!
Great food. Awful looking outdoor patio. So much potential but not enough care for it.
After living in New Orleans and Houston, I can safely say there is nothing Cajun about this place. Blah. I always start with red beans and rice and honestly, I can cook better. Its good for a regular standard breakfast - but its not even remotely authentic. Decor is ugly - cheap.
Family Favorite! Love this place, great Food, even greater service!
Never had a bad meal here and I have Terrible luck eating out. Super nice people. Everything Ive had has been great
An excellent breakfast outdoors in downtown Ventura.
