As always, Robert and his team, went above and beyond in servicing my Volvo for regular maintenance. Not only does my car drive like new, but the car is always washed, and care taken with the interior when returned. Dealing with Ayers is always a pleasant experience, and pricing is comparable to dealerships. Coming from out of state, I am happy to have found Robert and his team who are very knowledgeable on servicing foreign cars.

The service provided by this repair facility was beyond expectations!! Our car broke down on our way to Simi Valley (the alternator failed). The owners were so gracious. My wife is on oxygen and they set up a table and chairs just outside the door so she could enjoy the outside while she was on her concentrator. They worked quickly to identify the problem, ordered the part and completed the repair in two hours. Then as a courtesy they washed the car. It looked like new! I highly recommend this auto repair shop. We were on a road trip and returning home to Castle Rock, Colorado from Santa Maria, California. We really appreciated the quick and professional service to get us on the road again. AND the price was reasonable!

I Think Ayers provides professional service. A few days out, I am Satisfied with the quality of the work. I did provide a competitive bid from Toyota in Goleta. I was surprised the owner still charged me with his much higher price. This was the first time I used his service. Im not sure I can trust his fairness in pricing!

Had a negative experience at Ayers when I took my truck in to have the brakes looked at. When I got a call concerning the prognosis, they nearly insisted on doing an additional $2,000 of work on the truck that was unnecessary. Rob, who I spoke with on the phone was was condescending and somewhat rude. I am disappointed because i had previously had better experiences with this place, it’s a bummer that their service has changed and that their kindness towards customers is lesser felt.

This is a great local business, and it’s clear to me why they’ve been around for decades. Owner was rude and very pushy. If you want a mechanic that is there to only make money off of you by charging high price then this is the place to go. Did not have a nice experience at this place at all. My all-time favorite place to take my car is at GMAuto and Smog. They do an amazing job and I love their professionalism. They will also give you a fair price for services rendered or suggest other places that would offer good quality and good prices if they are unable to offer that service. Every time I have been to GM I have never been disappointed.Response to owner:I apologize Nikki, I thought Robert was the owner. I did appreciated him explaining to me how the roof rack works. It’s just sad that he waited until the end to be professional and kind. The experience overall was unimpressive, considering the cost, and I have no desire to do business there again.

They tried charging me $530 for an oil change for my diesel pick up truck. When I asked the service rep if the $530 estimate for an oil change was correct he responded by asking me, “what did you expect to pay?”. Got my oil changed down the road with no appointment in less than an hour at fast lane oil change for $139

I highly recommend Ayers Automotive Repair. It was the first time servicing my car since purchase and I had a great experience working with Ayers. They sent a detailed report of the car inspection and clearly explained what needed to be fixed. They offered different options based on what was most needed and what I could afford at that time. Their customer service is excellent. My car was ready on time, completely clean, and working perfectly.

Going to Ayers automotive was a huge mistake. I brought my 67 mustang into the shop because it started to overheat while driving. After looking under the hood and seeing lots of steam and water, I decided it was probably one of the radiator hoses, as the radiator was only 9 months old and had never overheated. (Side note, I built this car with my father who was a mechanic.)I explained the issue to the shop and they said, “No problem, we will take a look and fix the car”. I received a $300 estimate for the services.I called later that day and they began to explain that I needed a new radiator, multiple hoses, intake manifold removed, gaskets, thermostat housing and a cooling system overhaul, and they would begin immediately.Puzzled by the overwhelming diagnosis, and learning the $300 would be for the “inspection,” not to fix the car, I decided I didn’t trust the shop nor the people working there and would have the car picked up and towed to my garage. The owner called me and suggested we try and work it out. I agreed, in good faith, and said repair any hoses that are leaking. I’ll pay for that work plus the inspection. He then said, “I cant get to it today or tomorrow, but will let you know on Monday.” THIS IS MORALLY WRONG AND DISHONEST. They can begin work immediately when they think it’s a big job and lots of money, but when it’s a quick fix they need two and a half days to get back to me.I had my car towed to my garage, and after work opened the hood to truly inspect the car. What had been said to be thousands of dollars to fix turned out to be $15.36 at OReillys Auto parts, and a flat screw driver.Luckily, Ive worked on a few cars. However, if you DONT know cars, I highly advise against taking your car here. These people are clearly accustomed to taking advantage of people who have little or no experience under a hood.Im disappointed that I have to write this review, but feel that it is in the best interest of the customer, especially given that they are playing ads on the radio giving people the impression that they are a business with integrity.Best of luck.

Overall happy with my experience with Ayers over many years. They have kept my Camry in good running order and keeping up with my maintenance with them has kept the unexpected issues that sometimes occur minimal with normal wear. While my car has always been clean when I receive it back the extra they have done during the pandemic has given me reassurance for my health safety as well. Highly recommended.

Robert seems to care and speaks clearly. I asked for simple services in which they were completed. However, when I picked up the car I parked in a lot to check the work done and noticed my air intake hose was completely detached and would not connect the same way as it did before. It is normal to detach to access transmission fluid dipstick but the fact it wasn’t reconnected before closing the hood was an absolute disappointment and embarrassment. An easy fix, sure, but now I just lost all my trust in the work and professionalism of the shop. It felt like they tried to connect it, wouldn’t go in, gave up and just closed the hood and gave it to me. Now I can’t be comfortable with the idea that it’s possible the same lack of care was taken for the other services provided. If they can’t connect the hose and tell me the error, they could’ve easily done other damages that are critical that they didn’t tell me about. I feel taken advantage of and would NOT suggest this place to my friends. It sucks because it was a very promising shop and Robert is a knowledgeable and comforting owner. Something is wrong with their protocols, I hope they get better. Complimentary car wash was nice though, I haven’t always seen that.

After taking my Jeep Wrangler to the dealership several times and not getting to the heart of the problem I tock it to Ayers Repairs.Robert and his crew are amazing. Fantastic place to take your car and the best auto shop in Santa Barbara. Robert and his staff are the best. I had a check engine light on my dashboard. After some diagnostic work, they found that a sensor was bad. The extra services are a plus and my car is always well looked after. I highly recommend them.

Service was pretty quick my done. This is the 3rd time I have been there for work because Ayers is a dealer of CarMax’s repair warranty. The only thing I did not like was that on my second visit, Robert the owner mentioned to me that he would email me a quote for work that needed to be done. The AC hoses needed to be replaced but he forgot to send me the quote, I called to get the quote for repair and left a message for him to call me back with the quote, never received the email or quote and soon after I spent over 1K for repairs my hoses started leaking. I had to bring the car in for repairs and was quoted about $425 for the hose replacement and labor. When I came back to pick up the car the bill had jumped to $650. I was not very happy about the new price and was not informed that it became more costly. The business is well know and reputable but the attention to detail is missing a little. I also found a piece of rubber scuffed up on the drivers side inside handle which I was not too happy about. Overall if I had a second choice in Santa Barbara I might try to give them a shot to service. My nearest location for repair after Ayers is In Oxnard, CA.

I want to preface this by saying that I do not know much about cars...That being said, I would have had to take my car to a mechanic anyways. Robert was very professional and their customer service was exceptional. My car is a Hybrid which I understand many mechanics or car repair places do not work here in Santa Barbara. But they are certified to work on them. Everything is great now, and ultimately I am very pleased with the experience. The follow up call and thank you card after the service was a great touch.

Been traveling across country in a camper van and found out we needed a tire and brakes looked at.. Found Ayers via google search. They were very accommodating and even let us camp in the parking lot knowing that the van was home. Higher priced $$$ than at home but everyone in town we met said they were the best! I joined Ayers Car Care Club and have taken it in to them for service twice. They did a great job both times and the car was ready when they said it would be. Even though the second service was a minor one, when I picked up my car it had been washed and vacuumed. I was going out of town and the car wash was my next stop, so having it already washed was a nice surprise! I would highly recommend Ayers and their Car Care Club.

I truly cannot praise Ayers and Robert enough - he was so entirely up front and clear about what was needed for my car (long story short: VW dealership did me dirty and took me for $2k due to their misdiagnosis of electrical issues). With Ayers, I felt confident that I wasn’t being taken advantage of but Robert still made sure to give me every single bit of information and all of the background before giving me the different repair options. It was actually the next best thing to having my Dad take a look at my car - in that I always felt in the loop, never spoke down to, and absolutely never ripped off. Having our SUV hybrid serviced at Ayers saved us thousands of dollars. The dealer said the hybrid battery needed to be replaced at substantial cost. We took the SUV to Ayers for a 2nd opinion and they quickly determined the battery was good, only the cooling pack had to be replaced. I highly recommend this shop.

Very Pricey and it took all day when the only issue was the alternator needed to be replaced, but the location of it the shop is only 4 blocks from my house so there shuttle drove me home after the tow truck brought my car and me to the shop. It also picked up me up after the service was done. This shop also gives the car an external car wash with each service, which is a nice touch. I need to get on the ball and do a deep cleaning of the inside, especially when I have new floor mats that are still in the trunk. Service is good but time not so much but this shop is always busy. And for some reason I was not feeling too well on the day this happened so while my car was in the shop I spent most of that time in bed. Did not work at all that day. This is not a bad review, customer service is good, quality work is good, and as the price is steep you get what you pay for Excellent Customer service and excellent work done on your car. My car is 21 years old and is still on the road.

This is purely a customer service review as I didn’t get the repairs done.I was promised two calls one on the day I dropped the car and another the following day as they said they didn’t have time that day.The following day, a Friday, I didn’t receive a call either and by the time I got free to call they were closed. So I was without a car for the weekend.The frustrating part is they said they would research the cost of the repair but instead I got an estimate range and without any parts included. An easy call to the local business that makes the parts could have solved that. Then he said they didn’t have the equipment to actually do the repair. I was still charged $170 for them to inconvenience me. I feel like I ripped off.I’ll NEVER take a car to them again!!!

Robert was very professional and kind every time I spoke with him the two days my car was there. I just bought a 2008 Prius and wanted to get it inspected to make sure nothing was majorly wrong with it in addition to getting the headlight looked at which went out almost immediately after I purchased it. While it was pretty expensive (Robert flat out told me theyre not the cheapest in town), everything was done in a timely manner and I never felt pushed into doing anything. Robert even told me the things I could wait on since he knew I dont have much money. I also really like the report they give you that shows you everything thats wrong with a rating of how pressing the issue is. Overall it was a good experience. Theyre a reliable, professional, and honest mechanic shop, which you cant say about most of them.

The men working were quite sexist and rude when bringing my car in for service. When I was called about the reason for my maintenance light being on I was told numerous reasons as to why however most of the reasons listed had no correlation to turning my engine light on. After replacing a previous part two weeks prior the Ayer mechanics had told me that part also had to be replaced due to being an aftermarket part, however after contacting many other auto mechanics including the one who installed the “malfunctioning” part previously, I was told there should be absolutely no reason to change the part and became suspicious about the intentions of this shop. Realizing this business was illegitimate and trying to gain more money than needed, I tried to contact the mechanic to pickup the vehicle and was again told “reasons” as to why it needed to stay, none of which were reasonable. This resulted in me retaliating with more force insisting against his wishes that I was coming to get my car that day regardless. The process was rude, sexist and Ayer mechanics will find a reason to make more money.

They did good work but very much lacking in customer service. I was told to show up early on a Monday but my car wasnt worked on until Tuesday. I took it in for a tune up and oil change. I had to call myself in Tues at 1pm to check on my car.. apparently it was ready once I declined all the up-sales. I was told my car only takes synthetic but I know for a fact it takes a blend. At your own risk.

My 2006 Lexus suddenly overheated and i was afraid to drive it. I called Ayers and spoke with Robert the owner. He advised me to have it towed to his shop. When it got there, he discovered a split in the radiator. He gave me a quote I thought was high, so I called the Lexus dealer for a quote. It turned out his price was very fair. I called and told him to proceed with the repair. He did and I was able to have the car back the next day. Ayers does care.

To start, Robert Ayers is nice and seems concerned. Thats about all the good I can say about Ayers.I went in with a pre-diagnosed issue (from a shop back home in the midwest, truck mechanic) and specifically wanted them to look into the fuel system for the drive-ability and light smoke issues I had. He explained he did not think it was in the fuel system and listed his reasons. Off the top he wanted $500 to diagnose what he thought was wrong.First he replaced a turbo hose, which I later found out he charged me over 3 times the part cost, which I later found he charged me the same mark up on all the parts he replaced.. and at this point Im over a grand for one $110 hose and diagnosis.Then he explains my glow plugs are the issue Im having even after I have tried to tell them I dont agree, I do this for a living is essentially what I got.Well 2 and a half weeks later I get the call that the job didnt go as planned and will require more time and money thrown at it. Im livid at this point as I still do not agree with the shop. I agree to cover some costs of them breaking a glow plug off in my engine, which is common knowledge among sprinter mechanics, again he did not agree.Once the job is done, I get the call that its fixed, however the issue I brought it in for (sluggish driving and some light smoke) was still not fixed. He wants to hold it over the holiday weekend, because we just gotta figure it out.Days later they only have a few guesses as to what could be wrong...Where do they think the issue is, in the fuel system, where I asked them to start from the beginning. I ask to have my vehicle put back together and for them to stop working on it. Im paying you $3000 (after I fought the cost of $4000) and leaving with a vehicle that runs the same way it did when I walked in.At least we know the glow plug issue is fixed... (His response)I will never go back to Ayers unless its with a lawyer and a summons. They are going to find the big price items on your vehicle and start there, and get to the real issues later. Oh and then try to push an automotive credit card at you to pay what you cant cover. Ayers automotive has made me feel completely taken advantage of.

I had an emergency situation with my car that required it to be towed somewhere on memorial day. Robert answered the phone (even though the shop was closed) and was amazingly helpful in arranging to have it towed and left there safely until they opened again. They were super transparent about the costs before any work was done or parts were ordered. I feel like he kept overall cost in mind and made really good decisions on what needed to be fixed and what could wait. I will absolutely take my car here for any work that needs to be done in the future. Highly recommend!

Went there for a smog check. They asked if I wanted the free vehicle inspection. I agreed. After their inspection I was told I had a leaking water pump on my 2007 tundra. And that they can fix it along with a timing belt that should be done too. Both these fixed for $1100. I declined. I took my truck to a different mechanic for a second opinion and then to Toyota of SB for a 3rd opinion. Both said the water pump is fine and not leaking.. what????? Also, came to find out my 2007 tundra has a drive chain, not a timing belt. The drive chain is lifetime and doesnt need changing. They are trying to rip people off here. Be careful.

Ayers Automotive is somewhat expensive. I checked pricing with SB Toyota dealership (after the fact) where I used to service my RAV4, and here are the comparisons: oil/lube-$95 vs. Toyota $56, replace rear shocks-$690 vs. $513 Toyota, replace rear brake lights- $80 vs. $48 Toyota, transmission fluid change- P+L $400 vs. $279 quote from Toyota. So I recommend check pricing ahead of time, which I should have done...my bad!

Beware of bringing your vehicle here. A small issue always overlooked and they replace the whole system with everything new. Not a proper way to fix customers vehicle. If your car is here This shop will charge you for anything they can like brake fluid or little reccomendations just to get a extra dollar. Highly advise to take elsewhere. The owner robert has should live under a tree as shady as he is.

Great service. Nice people and even received a follow up on service I received. Plus great thing they provide a concierge pick up and drop off service as well. A bit more expensive (is why the 4 stars) but with this customer service I didnt mind too much. An update - follow ups are amazing. Even a hand written note! Always asking me to let them know if there are any issues to let thrm know right away. Customer service here is the best and my car runs very well. Thanks Ayers!

Im new to Santa Barbara and have been cycling through mechanics till I find the one I like, and this is the one. Prices were competitive which is probably expected, and nothing seemed dishonest, but unlike other places, I felt like they genuinely cared about me and the longevity of my car more so than making an extra buck. They took the time to explain the things I didnt understand and were very straightforward with everything they did, found and suggested.

The first time I took my car here I was pleased with the service I received. They were very friendly and had my car washed when I came to pick it up. However, after my second visit, I will not be taking my car back there. I took my car in for a simple oil change and I got a call hours later with a list of 6 or 7 things they thought was wrong with my car. I am the second driver of my 06 Corolla, the first was a little old lady who hardly drove it. I had them change my fan belts, but I had a feeling that the other items on the list really didnt need to be done. They kept pushing me to spend the $2500 and have them do the entire list. They thought they could take advantage of a girl, but unfortunately for them, they were wrong. I took my car into my mechanic that my family has used for years and he told me that nothing is wrong with my car. My shocks were good and Ayers wanted me to spend over $1000 on new ones. Ayers tried to charge me $300 or more to clean my throttle body, but my mechanic said it shouldnt cost nearly that much and thats a simple thing that will be done at 60,000 miles. I am incredibly displeased with the way they treated me and the fact they tried to get more money out of me for things that I didnt need. I do NOT recommend them.

As usual Efrain took good care of me and my old ride (2003 BMW). I live on a fixed income and worry every time I need to visit that Ill have a huge bill. I had some questions about service and he explained very thoroughly how the different repairs would be carried out and why, and the ones that could wait. Together were managing to keep this aging car (and owner :)) in running shape.

Ayers Automotive is THE most amazing local business where the employees are kind and professional - and they are fantastic about communication with issues and priorities for what need to be done to my car. I appreciate that automotive issues are always expensive and as a woman, I feel at the mercy of the mechanic.
