I was recently thinking about how much I miss this shop, and I realized I forgot to leave a review! I had work done on my 2017 WRX over the course of a year or so (2018-2019) at TurboTime consisting entirely of aesthetic modifications. These guys are wizards, for real... some serious skill at this shop, and a well run business overall. The team went above and beyond for me with my changing requests and through issues with parts, all without charging me a ton of extra money. Even though I felt like a noob at times as a first-time Subaru owner interacting with these guys, the communication was good, and I appreciated their efforts to be patient and welcoming. I cant thank you enough... everything still works great to this day, and Ive long since lost count of the amount of compliments Ive received. Ive attached some pictures of the car from up here in beautiful Vermont. There are lots of Subaru enthusiasts here, but finding a replacement for your shop is no easy task. Best wishes ~

I had a similar experience to so many here that better express than I can. Like a recent review, I took my 2002 WRX Sport Wagon one Friday afternoon last month for a full and honest assessment and Steve was completely transparent about The Good and The Bad, distinguishing among things that needed addressing, could wait, or symptoms to watch for. Katie was friendly, courteous, helpful, and had estimates in my in-box by the time I got home. A week ago I dropped it off and she similarly kept me abreast on status with pictures like the one attached, and of The Ugly discovered after they dug in, including news where a lesser shop had stripped and cross threaded some bolts. It is a pleasure to do business with folks that obviously take pride in their work. Drives and runs great and ready for the next 200K. Definitely worth the drive from Hillsborough and highly recommended.

I was trying to decide if I should invest more money in my 2005 Forester to get a couple more years out of it. Based on the reviews, I brought it in for an overall assessment. I am beyond impressed by this shop. They were so thorough, honest, and realistic. I live nearly an hour away and it was totally worth the drive for their service.

The lead and only tech was very knowledgeable. Steve was very friendly and so was Katy. They answered any all questions for me. Saved me quite a bit over the dealer. They only use quality Ams oil, so yes this will be expensive because Ams Oil is not cheap. In respect to parts they only charge, whatever the dealer charges for parts.I dont know if they will allow you to bring your own part.If they do, beware no shop in the country will warranty the labor or part that you bring. That cannot be expected. This shop to me was 100% honest in my experience. I will say the will give you initially hi quotes for parts if they have not looked it up to be on the safe side, but if you show them the part cost at the dealership, they will not charge more.I have seen dealerships even mark up parts beyond the msrp price.Since they are an independent shop they have to be very careful in quoting parts prices. From my knowledge they do not use aftermarket parts. So if you want to use after market parts and no warranty ask.I would take my car here any day of the week

I have tried reaching out to them on multiple occasions for service but I can’t ever get anyone on the phone. The one time I did get someone on the phone they quoted me 600$+ for a fuel pump replacement.I purchased my own fuel pump for 70$ and replaced it myself the process took me about 1 HR tops.Beware of those hidden fees for labor.

Awesome shop! These guys are the real deal and do great work. I’m always hesitant when I let people work on my car. I went by today around opening, asked if they could fix something on my car today and handed the new factory part. 45 minutes later they were done. Did a complimentary inspection and brought things to my attention which will need completion soon. Ryan and Katie were very nice, knowledgeable and eat breath and sleep the flat world and all that is Subaru. Thanks you guys!

TurboTime is a great Subaru specialty shop and general speed shop. Not only did they fix the head gasket issue on my 2003 Outback, permanent-like, but Ive taken parts to them for machine work that Ive pulled off of my 2009 Pontiac G8. These guys are immensely knowledgeable about performance setups in general and Subarus in particular. I highly recommend them. In fact, one of the reasons Im loath to buy something other than a Subaru as my next car is specifically *because* of this shop!

I cannot express how grateful I am for Turbo time. They approached me not as a mechanic to a customer but as a human. Unfortunately they had bad news to give me but they did give me the bad news up front and all of it at once instead of trying to milk me for all I had to fix my car. I had traveled to so many other mechanics and never really got the truth but thankfully turbo time does exist.

TurboTime deserves nothing short of a five star reputation. I have been wrenching on BMW’s for twenty years and whenever a job was over my head I always took my cars to the most reputable independent BMW mechanic in town. Last year I bought my first Subaru, an Outback H6.During a road trip from Wilmington, NC to Raleigh I stopped for gas. My Outback would not go in reverse when I needed to back out from the pump. I knew I was in for it. I was 100 miles from home. I was left searching in the parking lot of a gas station for an indie Subaru mechanic. Thankfully I found TurboTime.TurboTime looked over my Outback and called me back a couple days later with the bad news, a bad front ring and pinion. I wanted to get more than one opinion since I didn’t have a repair shop relationship for my Subaru. Wilmington doesn’t have an independent shop specializing in Subaru’s so I called a repair shop that listed Subaru among multiple foreign auto brands and I called the Wilmington Subaru dealership for quotes. I also reached out to the Subaru forums for advice on the best course of action. TurboTime was awesome throughout the whole process answering my questions, but the thing that struck me was their diagnosis and quote was sent promptly. These folks know their stuff, but they aren’t arrogant. TurboTime worked with me to source a low mileage JDM transmission and in doing so saved me thousands over what the other shops quoted. We’ve put 10k miles on our Outback since the repair and I am happy to report that the car shifts as it should. The next time our Subaru needs major work TurboTime will be getting the business. They are passionate about Subaru’s and they are an honest shop.

Review №34

These guys are scam artist. Most if not all these reviews are wrote by there friends.I took them my car because my motor failed. When pulled up there was an employee walking around with a gun on his hip...and the shop is in Cary NC. One of the safest places in the U.S. I guess they robbed more than one person.I began discussing my needs and explained to them what I wanted done and told them I would provide my short block because they quoted me more than what the dealer charges for a new one. I was able to source a new one that a Subaru dealership that has an Ebay store for almost $800 cheaper. They then told me that they would match the price. They then quoted me a price and a time that my car would be finished. Price and turn around time were my biggest concerns 1) because this was my only means of transportation 2)because I knew shops tend to have you by the balls while your car is torn down and they began to nickel and dime you. They did not meet the dead line that they set and the price went up almost $2000 by the time they were done. This put me in a bind because what we had agreed to was not only all the money I had but also money I had to barrow. The price increase was not brought to my attention till the day I picked it up.I had to leave and come back after 5 days till I was able to source the money. When I picked up my car I had noticed a horrible noise coming from my transmission. I turned around while I was still in the parking lot, and expressed my concern that this noise was not present when I dropped the car off. I also had them install a new clutch and fly wheel. 3 Weeks later my transmission fails due to the flywheel not being installed properly. They also left several dents on my trunk from pushing my car in and out of the shop. While they were test driving my car they also tore my wheel liner, installed a new one without telling me and I had to pay for it when I came to pick the car up.These guys are scam artist. Stay far away, get a second opinion and use with caution if you decide to deal with them. They come off as very friendly but will rip you off in a heartbeat.

Review №41

Let me start by saying that my current Subaru (2017 STI) is my 3rd (third) Subaru that Ive owned (all previous were also STIs). Throughout the last ten years of personally owning Subarus, I have suffered the woes of improper tuning, mishandling of modifications (parts), and general lack of care/knowledge for the vehicles that we (Subaru owners) love and care about.I discovered TurboTime roughly 1-1.5 years ago and have gone to them for multiple installs, checkups, and even taking my wifes 2012 Impreza to be serviced. The individuals who own and run this shop genuinely care about your vehicle and you as a person. They will go above and beyond their normal scope as technicians to ensure that you receive the best possible outcome for your vehicle. I have dealt with numerous tuning shops in the past, multiple dealerships, and multiple tuners for my own vehicle and close friends vehicles, and the service and quality that TurboTime delivers is the best I have witnessed in my life. What makes TurboTime so special to me, is that I dont see them as a tuner shop (which they arent, those services are offered, but that isnt what their primary focus is), I see them as skilled professionals (and friends) that ANYONE with a Subaru (no matter what the year/model) can go to in order to receive an experience that is purely genuine and of the upmost quality that you would not receive anywhere! The experience begins with a simple phone call and explanation of your issues/needs and you are delivered a quote explaining in detail exactly everything to be performed. Then you simply bring your vehicle in at the designated time, and the work begins. Simple. No waiting around for someone to get around to your vehicle, nothing. The work is performed in a timely manner to the standard that has always exceeded my own. I occasionally hear individuals speak of the cost of labor, and let me tell you what, if you want to install your parts/modifications on your own or go to a shop that cares strictly only about themselves and money, then by all means go for it, but at TurboTime you absolutely get the quality and confidence of knowing that your parts/modifications are installed meticulously with care and with professionalism, as if they were working on their own personal vehicle.TurboTime is where you need to take your Subaru. I will ALWAYS go here for anything and everything Subaru related. You will not be disappointed. There isnt a task that they cannot handle and their level of experience, quality and professionalism continues to leave me speechless. I love these guys.I hope this review is helpful.James

Turbo Time is by far the best shop I have ever dealt with. Many shops try to look out for you, but nobody will take better care of you than TurboTime. These guys are invested in getting your car fixed up/upgraded the RIGHT way. If you get a quote from another shop, and it is lower than the quote from TurboTime, that is because the other shop has left things out. Many shops try to do just the minimum with a repair, but if you want a reliable car, you have to do it right! Was working on my buddies WRX doing suspension and wheels on a Saturday morning awhile back. Realized we needed a set of camber arms to finish the job, thought hey maybe TurboTime will have a set and help us out of this bind. We proceeded to drive down to the shop.Upon arriving to the shop the bay doors were open and music blaring out of the shop (obviously someone was there). Proceeded to walk in and was unpleasantly greeted by an employee (I believe the owner Eric Rue). His initial greeting was something along the lines of Hey, what do you want? in a VERY rude manner. I told him we were looking for a set of camber arms for a 16 WRX and if he had any. His response: Yeah, Ive got two sets but Im not going to sell them to you.I stood there for a couple seconds in utter disbelief at the rude response I just received. I asked why he wasnt able to sell them, especially since we were in desperate need to get the WRX running on a proper alignment. His response Frankly I dont want to and he walked back into the shop and ignored me.We had cash in hand ready to make a sale and this is how they treat a fellow Subaru owner, potential customer, and just person in general? I left knowing I would NEVER do business with this shop again. Plenty of other shops in the area that care about your business.

Just yesterday, they put on KNS 4K Rotors and Hawk HPS 5.0 Pads on all four wheels of my wifes 2011 Forester XT for half the price that dealers and other shops wanted to put on OEM or other, inferior products (e.g. NAPA). In haste, I took my car to another reputable shop (Motion Lab) because of impatience with the backlog for Turbo Times engine builds. The shop took 8 months to complete my stage 2+ block, and in the process, messed up my wiring harness, left me with oil leaks, poorly machined headwork, a leaking cam seal, and a terrible tune (AFRs all over the place, open loop idle, etc etc) taking my car to Motion Lab was the biggest mistake of my life.Fast forward to when I bring my car to the true pros at Turbotime...Gino took in my car, without judgement, and went through and redid everything that was wrong, installed new IAT/MAP sensors, and tweaked the fueling including the addition of a Cobb FPR. Gino also tuned my car over the span of a couple days, and it has never felt better! AFRs are rock solid, idle is correct as can be for big injectors, and has a smoother powerband all the way from low range -> high RPM. Im honestly amazed. An almost year long project took Gino a couple weeks, even though he was back logged.I strongly encourage anyone who wants anything from mild work, to wild work, to take their Subaru to these guys. Not only do they do amazing work, but it was a very 1 on 1 process and Ive learned even more about my drivetrain thanks to them. Dont worry about deadlines, worry about the quality of the work! Theyve taught me the patience and quality is worth waiting for, and I am proud to say that Turbotime has finished my car. They have a customer, and supporter, for life.
