I work a few blocks away from Casa Del Palmar, and they have GREAT Mexican/Latin food!!! And a VERY wide variety of options, from breakfast-to-dinner...and VERY tasty Everything! Yes, some of the carne asada has some gristle in it, but its not as bad as many places -its more of an oversight than a norm. I usually prefer carne asada (beef), but their pollo asada (chicken) is SO darn TASTY that thats what I usually order here -tacos, burritos, plates, etc. There is a bit of a wait (roughly 10 minutes), because they cook things to order (which is a good thing in my opinion), AND because they have a lot of orders all the time being prepared ---but you can always call your order in ahead-of-time, so that its ready when you arrive!) Im a bit picky with Mexican/Latin food, however the quality and prices at Casa Del Palmar are excellent. It is a small, quaint, quality place to eat, that I enjoy frequently. (I never have stomach issues after eating there either -unlike many other Mexican places Ive tried -and Im sensitive to that.) The service has a great and friendly family/neighbor feel -really nice people! There are slightly better places, but at those places you will mostly pay the extra for the fancier and/or bigger physical space ....Casa Del Palmar is not a full, big restaurant/dinning place -its a smaller, simple, neighborhood, relaxed, but nice place to grab a meal with table seating inside or outside, with friendly waitress service -nothing fancy, but nice and quaint nonetheless! (Even the cooks will talk with ya and are very friendly.) But seating outside is limited, but outside seating is not usually full -so you have a good chance at sitting outside if you want. If you want a good imported beer to go with your food, there is a small, but fairly good selection of quality beers (in bottles) to choose from to go with your meal. (as of 2014 an imported beer is $3 -pretty fair, I think) AND, if you want to also do some shopping... there is a doorway within the restaurant, immediately connected to the Latin grocery store next door -which is very handy and convenient. This is a very comfortable, yet small, home-style, relaxed Mexican/Latin eatery. Thumbs-up from me...I hope my description is accurate enough for you and that you also enjoy their food. They have been at this location for years and I hope they never leave or move far away, because they are GREAT for me when I need a tasty, quality meal so that I can eat and continue on with my work day with a happy stomach. (No, I dont work for them or have any association with them -other than enjoying their food!!) If you want similar food, but a bit more pricy, I also highly recommend Picante (also in San Rafael) ---Picante (which I have not yet written a review for) has slightly better food, but you definitely pay a bit more for, and in my opinion the difference in quality is only minor (quantity is about the same). And if you want a full-restaurant experience for Mexican food, its reaaallly hard to beat Celias in San Rafael -but you pay a premium there...BUT they have really excellent food at Celias (and their margaritas ROCK!!!!...should you opt for one or two...) Enjoy!
