A selection of hot lunches can be ordered at the entrance so itll be ready by the time you check out. Premade lunches are also available at the fridge. All the employees were very friendly. Store is very organized with being Covid compliant. The parking lot could get a little tight when multiple cars are exiting and entering at once.

Have you ever found such great hole in the wall places that youre afraid to share it because then maybe its too busy when you go in the future? Yeah this is one of them! The best lunch plates Ive ever had. Ive been a few times and each one is a new home cooked meal straight from Hawaii. Not looking for a lunch plate combo? Get an absolutely excellent Musibi or better yet some of the freshest Poke Ive had. Definitely dont waste your time at some poke bowl place that loads you up with a heap ton of rice, condiments and little fish pieces when you can have excellent quality sliced chunks to enjoy right here! The location is really close to downtown San Mateo and it has its own, generally full, parking lot. Come early for lunch or youll have to park on the street.

In line 10 min before opening and at least 3 dozen guests already waiting. Easy to see why when you taste the food, DELICIOUS! I believe the food options are available only Friday-Sunday but I could be wrong. They really deserve 6 stars! And the cashier and bagger where probably the friendliest people you would ever meet. Great market, great food, great service. I will certainly be back, especially for post covid precautions to see if there is more to experience. But for a first time, I cant say enough about how happy I am that I stopped in. Bring your appetite and wallet. Things are reasonably priced but if youre like me then Ill take 1 of everything.

As a very homesick gal from Hawaii, finding out about Takahashi’s has been a light in this weird time. Walking in makes me feel like I’ve been transported home. This is the ONLY mainland poke I will eat and the various musubis are BOMB. The folks who work here are so sweet and responsive and make the trip from Oakland beyond worth it. I’m so grateful!

This is a small market but in reality its to go Hawaiian food. Go there hungry and with friends. They have a bunch of different masubi that are large and generous. Grab a plate of Kahlua pork, the masubi, some sides, one of the Hawaiian drinks and maybe fresh mochi. Then walk over to the central park and enjoy your haul. I really cannot recommend this place more.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon at noon with my family and friends. The line wasn’t bad at all, maybe like three people in front of us. We had to wait maybe 10-15 minutes to get the food and found outdoor seating (which was limited) and parking (luckily since there wasn’t much space).Food: We got the Salmon belly musubi special and then Large Saimin and also the Salmon Poke with cucumber salad. The musubi definitely stood out as a really rich flavorful dish and it almost melted in my mouth. The Saimin was good, not stellar but it was very nourishing.Service: The waiters were very kind and patient and brought our food outside to us as we waited!Ambiance: It’s a small casual grocery market and not the fanciest of places — flies buzz around and it’s not easy to find spaces but if you’re on the go it’s perfect.Would recommend this place to anyone who’s driving from SF to the South Bay since it’s right off of the 101 highway!

This is how you do covid people! Of the few places Ive visited since the pandemic started, this is the only one Ive felt 100% safe at. Im definitely stricter on safety protocols than alot of people, so me feeling safe here is impressive.First off. 3 people in the store at a time. Totally willing to stand outside and wait my turn if it means staff and customers are safer.Second, you actively see them wiping baskets down before they come out to let you in... Also they hold the hand sanitizer and add a pump to your hand. I love this. Every other place has a communal pump that I feel defeats the purpose when everyone touches it and you dont know if they actually used it if they dont man someone at the front to watch everyone.Third, you go in one way, leave the other route. Finally, touchless payment options. Just ask them as the machine isnt out by the customer. As for the food. Poke is in the back now and musubis are on the far left in the front. They have signs, you wont miss it.Musubis are pre packaged and theyre first come first serve. You can order 2 days ahead of time if thats your jam too. I showed up Thanksgiving Eve at 12 and they had alot of options still. Salmon belly was gone but thats always overcooked anyways. Snagged the spam, unagi, loco moco (eat the first day cuz seaweed gets soggy otherwise), and the unagi with crawfish.Overall, safe and still great food Im going back tomorrow for more.

Am stunned that so many have already rated one of my fave markets. Its like taking a trip to Hawaii, with Hawaiian eats that verge on affordable. Its worth a trip, as its quicker and more affordable than traveling all the way to Oahu for lunch. Portions: well, big, as youd expect. Spam sandwich: check. Rice and seaweed: check. Musubi: check. Sausage items are a bit fatty, so eat on an empty stomach. Surely worth a look as there are few in this niche.
