Love that they almost always have something going on at night. Great place to hang out and listen to live music if youre not into drinking alcohol.

Qaint coffee shop

Came to this coffee shop for a bite to eat. We are from Austin and were here to shop the outlets. Upon arrival, I thought the place was closed and started to search for a different place as my husband went to check to see if they were open. They were and we gave it a shot. Its order at the counter. We grabbed coffee and tacos. The food was 5 stars but I gave a 4 star rating for the atmosphere. It definitely has character, being in an old house, but it didnt feel super clean and inviting. There were obvious renovations going on though. Overall, good experience.

We visited when a wonderful band was playing—Rye Mountain Revelry. Loved every second! Drinks were great and the atmosphere was even better. Highly recommend Tantra!

I love tantra, the coffee, the vibe. Only thing is, to go there and study at one of the tables is hard because they fill up! Hardly the fault of the business though. Get there early if you want to stay and study with friends.

Relaxed, chill and more space than you find with most coffeehouses. The farmhouse is eclectic and is a pleasant place to be. Only complaint was that the food menu essentially shut down after 2PM, yet the shop was open till 11PM. Other than that the coffee was good and the people were pleasant (which goes a very long way).

Cute coffee house close to campus. Great tasting organic bagel breakfast sandwich. Coffee tasted great as well. Was there with my grown kids and able to carry on conversations and not disturb the guest at a near by table.

Cute little place in San Marcos that is family friendly. Its a great spot for sitting down with your laptop and working or studying, or you can just stop by for a good tea or coffee. My husband got a latte and was very impressed with it.

Good food and prices however I am put off by the dirty look and feel to the place. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting both times I’ve visited (I won’t go in to details - yes, that bad) and there is just a general hygiene issue going on. If was not for my husband enjoying the food here, I wouldn’t return. I really want to like this place and probably could if they can sort out the lack of cleaning and get the filthy bathroom refurbished. A food establishment should be on top of the game in that respect.

I spent many nights at Tantra listening to open mic night, or some local singer. I love the decor. Everything feels homey and cozy. The drinks are decent and not badly priced. The staff is polite and professional while still being fun. This is a college town coffee shop, and it lives up to that.

Great new vibe. Sweet porch and beer gerten style patio area. The only thing that would make this the best ever is better coffee.

Every experience I have had at Tantra has been positive! It is one of my favorite coffee shops in San Marcos. The staff have always been extremely welcoming, made my drinks promptly and they always taste very well done. I love the welcoming, down to earth vibe that Tantra has which sets it apart from all of the other coffee shops in San Marcos. The only downside is that you can no longer bring your dog to Tantra as you once were able to when I first moved here, but I understand that this is something the city has initiated.

The outdoor area is plenty shady and is a nice place to listen to some live local music while you grab a drink and unwind. Texas heat can be staved off with either alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages, your choice. I enjoyed the venue, and the people that worked there were very friendly laid back.

Nestled close to the San Marcos town square and across the street from HEB....location is great. Dont judge a book by its cover....this old old Victorian house turned coffee hangout serves excellent coffee/tea and menu items are scrumptious!! A must visit!!

Ive been going to Tantra for some years. The many coffee varieties they have are consistently adventurous and often amazing and flavorful. Staff is always friendly, management and ownership are often visible and available, as well as active, to and in the community. The ambience of the coffeeshop is pro typically San Martian, being a hub of alternative and grassroots energy. It is a place where locals congregate to be local. One of my favorite spots in town, hands down.

$13.80 for two tacos and a lemonade... The tacos were good, but no where near that good... and the lemonade was more like lemon water.Lesson learned.And I used to really dig this place, not sure what happened... New owners?

Great coffee with lots of options. Their food is fantastic, I have never had a thing that didnt taste fresh, and delicious. The veggie taco is my favorite, do not fear broccoli in a breakfast taco. Also their salsa is legit, red and the green. They have live music some nights and beer and wine specials most nights I think.

Its a cool spot to go to and the mini pitchers are cheap during mini minutes. Keep an eye on the total during calling out. They defaulted the tip to 25%

Had a delicious mocha and sat with my dog! Listen to a great band that played old school Bob Wills and Hank Williams! What a great place to hang out delicious and fun conveniently located. Clean, artsy, funky and pet-friendly!

Easily my favorite coffee house in all of San Marcos. It has both an indoor and outdoor area. Indoors, youll find a lot of people reading books or studying for class. Outdoors, youll find people chatting, drinking, and smoking. Id call Tantra the best indie safe haven in all of town.

I worked from my computer for a few while on the road at this coffeehouse. Very enjoyable. Coffee was excellent, staff was friendly & knowledgeable. The outdoor patio was a nice change, too. That, combined with having food, made it a relaxed environment to spend many hours. Thanks!

Very relaxed, great employees, and great coffee as well. They offer food, almost all displayed art is for sale and they are dog friendly. Pint night and their live music are their main attractions. Can never go wrong if youre looking for somewhere to do homework or just have a good time.

My son and daughter graduated from Texas State a few years ago and just have never moved away. as a matter of fact it came to the valley and said youre coming back with us we want you to experience the life of leisure here in San Marcos. its always been a good time at Tantra food people to talk to events and even the Funkadelics, Ill be back

This is a great spot to meet with a small work group. They have a large room in the back that is pretty closed off from the rest of the place.The food and coffee have never disappointed. They serve large portions so you might want to share.

The coffee is decent. Unfortunately I stirred my coffee with a dirty spoon because they were not marked well when I was there. They might have improved this to fix possible problems but I havent been back since.

Great food and drink! The staff is kind and helpful. During the day Tantra is calm, relaxing and a nice place to study. At night when they have a band come play the atmosphere turns lively, energetic and brings a smile to your face.

Stopped to get a quad white mocha. Got a regular mocha so took it back and told them it was supposed to be a white mocha. Guy turns around, adds a couple pumps of white mocha and says there you go. When I said that didnt make it correct and asked to remake I got a dirty look and the girl who had to remake it basically pouted, put my coffee, that still doesnt taste correct and walked off into the back room. I guess if you are not college age you shouldnt go there. At least that is how I felt.

Love the environment here, Ive my best friends here! Great coffee, overpriced teas. The tacos here are great, I literally eat here all the time just because of the cheap tacos. Lots of food options but more pricey. Environment really depends on day and time, finals week its packed with stressed students, during bluegrass or shows and mini minutes lines out the door for beer special, do not want to study here then at all.

Coffee itself is marginal. Food is a hit or miss proposition. Mine was a miss... my sweethearts was okay. Service was much less than stellar. Im not certain that they are competent... bottom line? Go someplace else to spend your money.Btw, i dont think our experience was an exception / one-off... I just think that the place is convenient to students who are relatively easy to please and just dont know the difference between good and not good .

The coffee was ok. Expected a little more for a coffee shop. The food was not great and it was overpriced. Paying 8 dollars for a sandwich I dont expect to be hungry afterward. No sides with it? Come on! It was small too. What is this food made for ants!

The service there always warms my heart ❤️ There’s only one hipster like really hipster looking than the rest that seems and looks rude but I put him to the side because everyone else have been so kind to me and my boyfriend. The atmosphere is cozy and hip. The chai latte is my favorite and you can never go wrong with the banana bread ❤️❤️❤️

My friend takes me here everytime I visit and its probably the coolest coffee spot out there. The food is delicious, the drinks are great, and it has a cute vibe that fits the small town. The staff is really cool and friendly. Great spot to hang out.

Very good coffee and friendly staff. The building/house definitely reminds me of my college days. Its one of those sorta dilapidated, floors that lean one way then another, and faded paint old house. Love it.

Had an iced soy vanilla latte and it was very mild in taste. Once I added a 1/2 of a pack of organic sweetener it taste even better! Parking is not great and it doesnt have practically any indoor seating but overall good coffee.

A favorite study spot. Great seating, great coffee, great food, great service. A favorite for the local hippie culture as well, if youre into that sort of thing.

Tantra is a favorite of mine in the San Marcos area. Its location is convenient, the food is good, and they make a good cup of coffee. The owner or owners have taken great care to keep the environment clean and friendly. They support local artists by posting their work on the walls of the coffee house as well as allowing local musicians to post fliers and even hold shows on the outside stage. Talkative and friendly staff with customers to match. A good place to read, study, hang out, or have a good meal. I recommend Tantra to all residents of San Marcos and to passerbys alike. Its worth the stop!

One of the most unique places in San Marcos. They serve food, coffee, and tea. I got the steamed yerba mate, and it felt creamy, but there was no cream added. They have plenty of other drink options

Tantra is fun and very welcoming place to get a great cup of coffee or a mini pitcher during mini mins. Weds nights bands are great and we love dancing in front of the stage. Def worth the visit.

The food is a bit overpriced in my opinion but their unique drink selection is great. My favorites are the Italian sodas with cream. They also have a good number of craft brews.

Its the hipster cafe experience. Funny to watch the kitchen staff entering and exiting the building from the kitchen window... Seemed the staff was more interested in each other than their job. Probably a friendly work environment if youre looking for a job, as a customer, it wasnt my cup of tea... Or cup of joe.

I love this place. I mean you cant go wrong with their mini pitcher happy hour from 6-6:30pm & 9-9:30pm. The staff is friendly and made up of students and locals that live in the area. It can tend to get crowded inside when students are studying in the evening, but the open courtyard they have is where most people post up. I havent gotten on their wifi yet but with the number of students studying there I would assume that its decent. Depending on the day of the week live music is played in the courtyard and good weather tends to attract a pretty lively atmosphere. If youre looking for a coffee shop I dont think theres a better one in town.

Food has always been disappointing and very expensive. Coffee is great, though, and if you can drown out the sometimes obnoxious music playing over their sound system with your own headphones, it makes a good study spot (only because of the large tables you can spread out on). The clientele are largely odd, but they mostly stay outside and smoke/drink. The good beer there is really expensive, so if Im going to drink there its usually only for one or two. The staff has always been really friendly and understanding, so its a place I regularly attend.

Great coffee and very cute atmosphere. I loved sitting outside. Its right off the main road, but it has a cuddy feel. You can sit out there, use the wifi and work. They custom made me a lavender latte and it was yummy!

I used to love Tantra but they slowly are discontining all my favorite stuff like the jasmine pearl tea and my favorite meal (tacos del cielo). So sadly after 5 years, my friends and I probably won’t be going back.It’s still a great coffee shop though.

This has been my go to coffee place for almost a decade. The Landry has been my drink of choice, however I have enjoyed several other different drinks.

Try one of their delicious breakfast tacos with an iced white mocha! I also enjoyed their salmon lox plate.
