When we caught our old mechanic ripping us off, we had to find another place and I tried Mission Auto Repair based on the reviews. We took my wifes car in for some work and it went well. I got a good feeling about the experience. Fast forward to today, and I call them and tell them Im pretty sure I need a new starter. Took the car in and they called me a short time later telling me the starter is fine, it was just a loose connection. They didnt charge me a dime, even though I tried to insist I pay something. Needless to say I wont be taking our cars anywhere else from now on.

Mission Auto Repair is very deserving of my honest review.In short: Honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, efficiency, above-and-beyond service and kindness, down-to-earth, earnest.Long story:My car would not start on a Friday afternoon right before the Christmas holiday, and after 2 calls to triple A to figure out the problem, we ruled out the battery being the issue. After several phone calls to auto repair shops who could not fit me in, I called Mission Auto. The receptionist was the first kind voice I heard, eager to get me help. She got Richard (the owner, I assume) on the phone, who was had a practical, up front communication style. He listened to my problems and cut to the chase of possible issues. I got my car towed to the shop, and he immediately ushered me in, and had his mechanics looking at my car right away.Over the course of over an hour, several mechanics looked into all the possible causes of my car not starting. Every 5-10 minutes or so, Richard would find me and give me an concise update. After an hour of tinkering, they finally deduced that my broken key was very likely the issue - the transformer had fallen out, so my car was not reading the key. Richard arranged for a local locksmith to quickly come make me another key and after a long ordeal, my car was able to start with my newly programmed key.When I asked Richard for the cost of the work (over an hour of him mechanics working on my car), he graciously said - nothing, this is a holiday gift to me ....I am more than impressed by the swiftness, thoroughness, integrity and refined customer service that Richard and his team exhibited. Everyone I interacted with was pleasant, helpful, and earnest. They are the kind of people that I would trust to take care of me with my best interest in mind. Richard (shop owner), has been my car doctor since the mid 1980s. He makes car maintenance so easy for me. He suggests when to schedule the next maintenance visit and what theyll be focusing on. And - heres an important point for the budget-minded (like me) - he lets me know in advance, any non-routine issues coming up, that I should be aware of and plan for financially (major tuneup, new tires, cable/belt needs,...). With the shops excellent mechanics and their great customer service, my car gets the TLC it needs. Having been to 4 other automotive repair businesses in San Marcos, Ive finally found the place that is friendly, takes the time to explain the repair required and why it is needed, Richard looks up the cost and prints out a work order so I have the exact cost and items are listed. Richard has delivered excellent automotive repair and his staff of technicians have done excellent work, no go backs. This is the place for automotive repair hands down.

Weve tried several auto repair shops around San Marcos, and none have delighted us as much as Mission Auto Repair. My wifes car needed an expensive repair (timing belt ) and after calling around, this was not the cheapest quote, but the reviews we read, and the professionalism they conveyed on the phone made us decide to give them a try.The first person youre likely to interact with on the phone is Richard, the owner, and his knowledge & expertise makes him stand-out immediately (especially if youve called other shops, and spoken with less knowledgeable people first).Best of all, they really do stand behind their work. Several months after the job, a belt started making a strange sound, so we took it back. They immediately admitted that a new part theyd put-in was defective, apologized, and made it right without charge.

So happy to have found a repair shop that I completely trust, that does great work, and has fair prices.
