I was leaving for a backpacking trip in 5 days and needed a piece of equipment to be delivered in the 3/4 day shipping window. Typically you would need to add a day or 2 for the item to actually be shipped. I contacted the store via chat and Andy shipped it to me immediately, and it arrived on time. You dont often receive great service like this. I will continue to purchase items from The Mountain Air for this reason. Thanks Andy, you made my day and my trip!

Personally, the prices are pretty steep but that is mostly due to the brands they offer. Great variety of outdoor products

I really like this local outdoor store. The customer service is friendly and helpful, and I try to purchase equipment there when possible. The only problem is its pretty small and I cant always find what I need in their inventory. That said, they do an excellent job selecting products to carry and what they do have is of high quality. I purchased my Thule rooftop cargo box at the Mountain Air, and I was very satisfied with the service I received. They installed it on my roof at no extra charge.

Ive purchased most if not all my backpacking, climbing and camping gear here. The staff are very knowledgeable and you can tell they have a passion for the outdoors. Last visit I was in need of thule replacement keys and cylinder for my helium hitch bike rack. Andy was awesome !!! Got my replacements ordered and found a solution to save my upcoming trip. He went above and beyond. Skip Amazon or online retailers, get out and shop local, you wont be disappointed.

Ive never been to this store physically (because I live across the country) but I ordered Thermarest Z-seats from them online, after searching and finding other retailers out of stock. The products arrived quickly and were nicely packaged. No complaints! Now my outdoor excursions are a little more comfortable.

I have been to Mountain Air Sports three times over the last few weeks. The customer service has been outstanding. I am extremely impressed with Jonah. He is so mature, knowledgeable and friendly. He is also very patient as I have a lot of questions and a snowboard that is 20 years old and not easy to replace bindings on. Jonah was able to come up with a solution that works and is safe.The board I have I bought here brand new in 2000. It’s still going strong!

This recreational supply store has everything for the active outdoor crowd. I first visited in 1977 while attending Cal Poly SLO and bought a t-shirt with their original logo. Been buying their new logo designs ever since when Im in the area. Check it out!

The Mountain Air is near and dear to my heart. From a young age I would visit w my whole family while preparing for each years trip. We have always been able to find what we need or if we havent they have pointed us in the right direction, their store is always super well maintained. I was glad to find that the item I was looking for, while out of stock at the big retailers, was still available from The Mountain Air. My order shipped the same day, and the price was the same as the big online stores, so I have zero complaints. 10/10 would order from this shop again.

The only local ski and sport shop. If you need help with your board or skis this is the place to go. All the other local places have gone out of business over the years and this place survives. Its a small shop, but good selection and knowledgeable people.

Nice local store. They were the only place within 50 miles that had 16oz propane canisters, and the staff is super nice. Highly recommend it for camping gear, climbing, snowboarding, and maps.

Ive been shopping here for years and The Mountain Air in SLO has always been a great place offering an exceptional amount of quality gear and service for the square footage of the store. I find the prices to be very reasonable and have used many a mountain air dollar to offset a purchase. Seriously, I dont know how theyre able to fit as much as they do in this store but from tents to climbing gear to backpacks to footwear to snowboards to garments and an array of camping supplies/kit that put REI to shame, its a bigger selection than you might assume. There is always someone on hand to answer questions and give you that open hearted friendly local service that SLO is famous for. Since I love quality outdoor shirts and shorts as my everyday clothes, Ive spent plenty of my hard-earned in there.

I love the mountain air. Been shopping here a long time. They ALWAYS have amazing quality items. Theres more of a variety than you would think. Even if you dont snow board/hike/backpack etc i suggest checking it out! PLUS they are local and cary alot of great local products and have very knowledgeable and passionate staff.

What a wonderful store with incredible staff! We didn’t think we’d be able to get the bear vault we needed, and as luck would have it they called us the next morning right as the shipment came in! Can’t wait for another excuse to come and visit.

Mountain air sports has a fantastic selection of all types of outdoor gear. And perhaps more importantly they stock equipment that is of high quality. On top of that, the staff has always been very helpful and friendly. I recently took my 10-year-old daughter to the store to find a camp stool and a headlamp for a school camping trip. Victoria was extremely helpful and picked out several suggestions that we ended up taking home. My daughter had a good experience on her camping trip and it was in no small part because of the excellent gear Victoria helped us pick out.

I should have done this a while ago! I love this place. The employees are always so helpful and find you the right thing for your need. I bought a snowboard a while back after not boarding for a while. I wish I could remember the guys name- used to have longish dark hair, then chopped it. Anyway, he took the time with me to evaluate my style, what I didnt like, what I liked. Long story short, this is the best board Ive ever had or used. SO happy.Next significant purchase was hiking boots for Half Dome. I wasnt crazy about the water proof ones I had after walking through some wet brush. My feet never dried for our 4 hour hike because the water couldnt escape. The girl suggested Keans after my description. I tested them out on the little ramp, and bought them. Again, SO happy. After hundreds of miles of hiking, the boots havent failed me.I just wanted to take the time to share my thanks for some rocking employees and an awesome business that Ive going to since I was a kid. Thank You!

After visiting several other shoe stores for a pair of boots, I ended up at The Mountain Air, where I learned what real service is like! These folks are shoe experts, and can take your measurements and quickly hone in on the perfect pair of shoes for you. I didnt realize how good customer service can be before shopping here!

I bought sandals here, and everyone was so helpful. Multiple employees helped me figure out the right fit, and pulled many different styles for me to look at. A great experience, I will definitely be coming back for any outdoor gear in the future.

I must say, These guys are pretty AMAZING! I went in to Mountain Air in SLO 2 weeks ago to just inquire about a Pelican Cooler for camping and ended up buying a very cool Thule Sonic Air cargo carrier from them. I couldnt believe the fast, & courteous service I experienced. They even installed it in 30 minutes! Free of charge. I would also like to add that 3 men, (One being the owner, Wayne?) were all working together, making my experience a real treat. This place is the best to get outdoor gear because the people working here are so knowledgeable about all their products! They use and test them on their adventures so they really know whats great and whats not!

Very nice store. As a avid outdoorsman I appreciated this place with the their quantity of outdoor gear. The sales people were very friendly and was always asking if I needed help. I asked about certain backpack and they employee new everything about it and what other options there were in a similar category.

If you are a woman looking to buy outdoor clothing that is not Patagonia, youre probably out of luck at this spot. Additionally, the store is overpriced. Im all for supporting local businesses but Im always disappointed when I come in here and cant find anything Im looking for.
